[HCDX] my best LW-SW logs

Warm greetings !

I have repaired the soundcard of my computer which was malfunctioning and I saw that when transfering a .WAV file into a low bitrate 40.4 Kbit/s stereo MP3 file I get several distinct whistles in either the right or the left channel producing a stereo-like effect and I must say that this is the most astonishing aspect of my DX carreer since we purchased the PK Shielded Magnetic LW loop back in December ! I even put DX files into my IPod, you know ? Aside from CD quality musical bites, I have dozens of LW-MW-SW-FM DX airchecks from around the world on my IPod, mostly musical ones !

Into the logs now:

Trans-Atlantic DX (like all of this are)

171 MOROCCO Medi Un, Nador JUL 6 - 0200-0430 - played Arabic music (mostly Egyptian islamic vocals which are popular in Morocco too) done by a female Arabic announcer until 0400 UTC (when switched to eclectic pops with newscast every 15 minutes). Very good peaks with little in the way of fadings ! (Chiochiu-QC)

183 GERMANY Europe 1, Felsberg JUL 7 0210 - playing "Besoin de rien, envie de toi" by Peter & Sloane after the Cookie Dingler's "Femme Libérée" Alasacian 1984 reggae classic... Since a few days they seem to play more music. (Chiochiu-QC)

216 FRANCE RMC Info, Romoules JUL 7 0328 - fair in French on dawn enhancement, noted in passing. As Sylvain Naud has suggested, this one is doing better when there is sunrise enhancement at the transmitter site ! (Chiochiu-QC)

5950 TAIWAN JUL 7 0228 - End of a Chinese pop tune, then EE talk with ID as "Radio Taiwan International". Poor SINPO 25332. NEW ! (Chiochiu-QC)

7275 TUNISIA RTT, Sidi JUL 7 0420+ - with Arabic music program followed by apparent news. Fair at tune-in, but very poor right now at 0500 UTC ! The only shortwave broadcaster playing music around the late evening and early morning... Sad ! Ecos del Torbes 4980 kHz used to play music until sign-off at 0400 UTC ! (Chiochiu-QC)

Additionnal comments:
While on chat with the YV DXers I pointed out to SEVERAL of them the awesome www.amradioantennas.com and sugested them to try a DXpedition to Isla Margarita (in the Nueva Esparta state) in order to receive TA LW DX... Medi Un on 171 kHz would most likely be their best target ! Well...

There are some friends from school who receive this e-mail as well... They might not forget that my 22nd birthday party is on July 16 or July 17, depending on the avilability of everyone... I hope to receive the 153 kHz DX-friendly antenna by then from Australia ! Is it an antenna that can be connected or it should just be placed along the ferrite bar antenna of my Sangean and/or Grundig (the only radios I have right now that are receiving longwave) ?

This report is brought to you by Bogdan Alexandru Chiochiu, DXing using his Sangean ACS 818-CST / PK's Shielded Magnetic longwave loop and his Grundig G5 / random wire terminated into a broken Yagi combos in Pierrefonds (Montreal's West Island), QC

May the good DX be with you !
Bogdan Chiochiu
Btw.: Is anyone else hearing Tunisia-7275 ? This has been lately some of my most exciting shortwave DX, because the signal is fairly weak and the Arabic music is half-decent even if it doesn't match the beuaty of Algerian raï !
