[HCDX] foreign LW & MW DX logs

Warm greetings to all of you !

LW DX has been very poor over the last few days, though the past night while I was in the basement chatting with some highly charismatic Venezuelan DXers on our only computer that supports a microphone, my mother heard plaintive Arabic chanting coming out of the bedroom... As far as the YV DXers are concerned, they even suggested me trying to join the Spanish service of RCI... The lead of the Venezuelan SKYPE DX group told me my Spanish was good, but it could get even better and once I master fully my Spanish, I MUST join Radio Canada International. This idea is so sick, so wonderful, that it must be taken into consideration ! It reminds me of the the many floodings to LatinMWDX during the 2005-2006 when I wrote in Spanish instead of English, while many DXers weren't interested in learning more about Latin American culture, but just to increase their logs quickly IDing the new stations, no matter if it were Latins or not and IF they were Latins to quickly report them to LatinMWDX without trying to personalize this Yahoo! Group. Just some feed for thoughts...

I must say I loved my evening and the fact there aren't any mandatory vaccines for flying to Venezuela (according to the YV DXers) makes planing a trip to the joropo land more than noteworthy, truly necessary !

I received the last DX News issue and I'm very glad Guadeloupe got audible on 640 kHz at an excellent level, because it is the best bet for a French Caribbean broadcaster in North America, although with the PK AM Loop, Radio 4VEH out of Cap Haïtien on 840 kHz should come to life, as my Sanyo MCD-S830 barefoot is rather deaf in the 800s !

Well, into the logs now:

Trans-Atlantic DX

171 MOROCCO Médi Un, Nador JUN 22 +/- 0310 - blasting out of my bedroom with plaintive Arabic chants at an apparently huge level, as far as my mum told me. The only LW TA heard during the last few days ! I left the radio open while I chatted with some highly charismatic YV DXers using SKYPE ! (Chiochiu-QC)

Pan-American DX

555 ST KITTS ZIZ, Basseterre JUN 21 0235 - blasting on through a computer growl with soca music. SINPO 44232 (Chiochiu-QC)

710 CUBA CMW, Radio Rebelde, La Julia JUN 21 0250 - Apparent Cuban baseball coverage way under WOR. SIO 312 (Chiochiu-QC)

750 VENEZUELA YVKS, RCR, Caracas, Distrito Federal JUN 21 0240 - Sports report from someone in the Zulia state. Huge, way over WSB ! SIO 443 (Chiochiu-QC)

780 VENEZUELA YVNM, Radio Coro, Falcón JUN 21 0300 - Very tentative ! Highly rhythmic music with the cadence of merengue seemed vaguely // to the Radio Coro stream on the web ! Sounded like something different from what CFDR and WBBM had at the time, but way to weak to clearly determine the identity of the station. Usually this is better heard slightly past local midnight EDT at this time of the year ! Very threshold signal ! SIO 131 in WBBM/CFDR null ! (Chiochiu-QC)

Additionnal comments:

Seems like with the Solar Cycle 24 winding up, around mid August toward the end of my summer holidays I expect some auroral openings toward South America on mediumwave before the holidays are over ! I always try to consider August as the best summer month and among the top 5 best months of all year for long-haul mediumwave DX ! Am I right ? Am I correct ? I think DXing during the second half of August is way better than in early January with the awful midwinter anomaly. Well...

This report is brought to you by Bogdan Alexandru Chiochiu, DXing from Pierrefonds (Montreal's West Island), QC using the Sanyo MCD-S830 / PK AM Loop combo and the Sangean ACS 818CST / PK's Shielded Magnetic longwave loop combo !

May the good DX be with you !
Bogdan Chiochiu
