Nothing Earth-shattering to report. Conditions just too awful.
UNID. 1710 UNID. 2245-0114 Good signal here at this time w/CA mx w/M pgm
host. Sev. definite ment of 'radio' at 2249. Mixing with R. Moshiach and
Redemption at times. Jingle at 2250 but was fading at this time. Some
deadair 2255, then canned anmnt w/ment of "?? escuchando a Radio
Tele??...AM. La emisore.Western(?) Avenue, ??, telefono 718-231-?73." More
lively mx. M anncr at 2305 w/poss. ID, then remote report by M beginning
w/poss. ID. Then lcl noise started and lasted until 0022. Interview pgm
then w/W host and W guest to 0049. Too much adjacent QRM at that time, and
Moshiach taking over completely for a while. Ethnic Pirate relaying
pgmming?? (4 March)
14 March 2009: Decided to do a short micro-DXpedition. Was going to try
using the Eton w/RF Systems matching transformer and 50 ohm coax attached to
external jack but forgot the adapter. So tried different combinations of
attaching the antenna directly to the center conductor and also to the whip,
and turning on and off the 'DX' button. Couldn't find a happy medium.
Either spurious signals every 5 khz or signal strengths a little too weak.
RX: Eton E1
ANT: 315' at 50° Beverage (BOG)
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26
Duration: 2030-2200 UTC
Solar Indices: Solar Flux = 69, A Index = 9, K Index =1. No storms.
WX: Temp in the mid-40's. Can't recall any other weather conditions.
PIRATE (EUROPE) 6309.96 UNID. Europirate Was getting a carrier around
2030, but mx noted at 2047. Too much 6300 slop QRM to recognize songs.
Definite Dance mx at 2050. Finally canned anmnt by M at 2100. Was doing
pretty well around 2055, but dropped off some by 2100. Coming back after
2105. Another short canned jingle at 2110. Some UTE QRM. Sounded like a
jingle and immediately off at 2124:41*. Who was this?? Brandaris?? (14
March)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 6850 Playback Int. Decent signal at 2108 w/syndicated mx
pgm. 2108 M anncr w/song anmnt. End of pgm and "Island of nowhere"/"PBI"
ID at 2126. (14 March)
EGYPT 6255 R. Cairo Nice EG ID by W ending nx during EG pgmming at 2138.
(14 March)
TURKEY?? 6165 V.O. Turkey?? Looking for Chad at 2143 since it wasn't on
4905 and found AR mx here. Quite strong. 2155 M w/sked in lang.
(Turkish??), more AR mx. Off at 2200. (14 March)
PIRATE (NA) 6924.88 MAC Shortwave "Silhouettes" oldie, 2151 song anmnt,
2153 canned jingle ID. Into "Hey Joe". Drifting up. Nasty CW QRM. (14
March)
8 March 2009: Stopped at the SGLs again. Remembered the coax adapter for
the Eton this time. Discovered that the Eton microprocessor generates some
noise that's picked up in the antenna when its attached directly. The 50
ohm lead-in isolates the antenna and eliminates it. Unfortunately I still
get the spurious signals every 5 khz with 'DX' on, but weaker signals with
it off. Wish it had a multi-position attenuator or RF gain control.
RX: Eton E1
ANT: 315' at 50° Beverage (BOG) with RF Systems matching transformer and 50
ohm coax lead-in.
QTH: Pennsylvania State Game Lands #26
Duration: 2100-2200 UTC
Solar Indices: Didn't check
WX: Clouds and Sun. Cool, around 40° F (4° C.)
PIRATE (EUROPE) 6220 Playback Int. via Mystery R. 2104 ID jingle for
both, then into "The End of the World" by REM. Decent strength but signal
seemed disturbed. 2107 M in Italian then EG w/song anmnt and ment of Chris
Ise coming up. Into "Cars" by Gary Newman. //6870 which was abt 38 seconds
behind and weaker, but still easily readable. (21 March)
USA 1630 WPQG491, Rt 19/I70 interchange in Amwell Twp, Washington CO.
Getting several TIS stations here besides the Holidaysburg wx stn. The
strongest was from the PennDOT Traffic Management Channel. Had a short loop
ID by M, best around 2127. (21 March)
ZIMBABWE 3396 R. Zimbabwe 0151 end of EG anmnt by M and into Pop song.
Another rapid anmnt and Hi-life mx running through the ToH. Pgm ended at
0300. Then long drum sequence, and M w/full 2+ minute ID anmnt in lcl vern.
including all AM, SW, and FM freqs. w/ments of a gazillion "megahertz"s. Mx
bridge at 0304, and studio M anncr in vern. Fair at best and fady. (22
March)
BOLIVIA 6155.27 R. Fides (pres.) Def. instru. camposina mx 1008. Heavy
6155 and 6160 QRM. SP vcl song at 1020. Better by 1024 w/campo Rom. Song.

PERU 5120 Ondas de Sur Oriente (pres.) OC at 1037. Wasn't there at
1030. 1040 s/on w/M anncr w/canned opening anmnt, but all I could copy was
ment of onda corta. Into Huayno mx. Deep-voiced studio M anncr at 1044.
(22 March)
PERU 4955 R. Cultural Amauta (pres.) Good at 1046 w/tlk by M and ment of
El Mundo and Christiano. Faded pretty quickly. Very noisy. (22 March)
CANADA 9625 CBC 1055 carrier and tone. 1058 start up w/instru. NA, W
anncr in lang. but couldn't copy anything. CBC nx beginning w/ID at 1100.
