Glenn Hauser logs May 20-21, 2024  View Printable Version
Wednesday, May 22 2024

Logs
** ALGERIA. 17600, May 21 at 1840 tune-in, Ifrikya FM English in
progress, speaker with heavy French? accent, S9+10/15 into UTwente
about African nations achieving ``food sovereignty`` such as in Sudan;
prompting guest, VP of GRFI, to laud Ifrikya FM, and plugging current
event in Algiers. 1847 with 710 exhibitors, more than 25K
professionals, about agriculture until May 23. 1848 back to French &
Arabic IDs; music I find enjoyable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 21530, May 21 at 2204, JBA carrier, second only to 21490 at
S4/S6; per EiBi CNR1 jamming and SOH do not start until 2300, but
surely do. Likely likewise the JBA carriers on 18970, 16100 at 2214.
See also UNIDENTIFIED 21530 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. Spy numbers figure in this 60 Minutes story May 19:
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/spies-for-cuba-a-danger-to-us-national-security-as-american-secrets-sold-around-the-world-60-minutes-transcript/
I don`t see a link to axual audiovideo of segment; must be somewhere.
It seems that after serving her sentence, Ana Montés is living the
good life in Puerto Rico where she is treated as a heroine (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRAN [and non]. 5990, May 21 at 1905, as I am checking Canary Is
SDR for 5995 MALI, q.v., a big S9+25/40 open carrier here with slight
hum, trace of mod at best. EiBi shows it`s VIRI in Albanian at
1820-1920! Typical shutout at Sirjan. I assume this minor language is
of interest due to the Islamic minority there, who are thus being
disserved; with ACI from 5985 Chinese music, i.e. CRI so-called
Portuguese service to southern Africa from Beijing site. How about
second registered fq for IRIB Albanian hour? At 1917 into UTwente,
nothing on 7325, and 7310 Chinese, probably CNR1 jammer vs SOH. And by
1921, 5990 is off as expected to 1920* in IRIB`s wacky :20 to :20
scheduling of most languages (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 9635, May 21 at 0648, surprised to find S6/S8 in French here,
normally nothing. Got to be Bamako as nothing on 5995. Normally
switches from 5995 to 9635 at 0800. Permanent change or error? Check
around 1900 May 21 into Canary SDR, neither. But at 1921, 5995 has
come on, S9+20/40 with heated discussion in Bambara? and music breaks.
2006 recheck in French (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1120, May 20 at 2035 UT check on caradio, KETU Catoosa
back on the air with Spanish music, after missing at 1530 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA [and non]. 11935, May 21 at 1642, via UTwente,
horrible buzzroar gets ACI from CRI English via Kashgar, EAST
TURKISTAN on 11940. Still 1854 in the clear without ACI (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** SPAIN [and non]. 17855, Monday May 20 at 2200, token English from
SNR, VG S9+30/40 direct, preview of topic: an AI treaty in Europe
rating countries on a scale of 1-12, as in interview underway at 2208
after news. As usual lately, almost as good on 15520 backwards to ME,
S9/+10, poor on 17715 to S America, no signal on 15390 for Africa.
15390 has been missing so long that I wonder if they QSYed without
notice, at least not in English. HFCC A-24 shows all these 161-degree
alternatives available on weekdays during this hour: 21620, 11670,
15350, 15385, 11530. By 2230 when French should be on, I check each
via UTwente for possible // to 17855: none, altho there is weak signal
from algo on 11670, which would be CNR Beijing from 2230 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 18155 USB, May 21 at 2207, EA7GX contacting a W7 near Bend,
Oregon and other Americans, ``Peter in Spain``. Not surprising since
Noblejas booms in S9+20/30 on 17855 in non-English. QRZ.com: ``EA7GX
Spain flag Spain, PEDRO ROLANDO ORTEGA, ALBORAN 7, LA LINEA DE LA
CONCEPCION, CA 11300, Spain`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 20 at 2159, TRT IS, 2200 timesignal, opening
English, S9+10/20 direct but still too much high local noise level -
HLNL of S9+10. So not off the air today, but no time to listen in
detail. Recheck into UTwente where measured: 2253.6 s/off ignoring SW,
2254.3 IS but chopoff by 2254.7, no finesse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11785.009, May 21 at 2159, no signal direct from
VOT English vs S9 HLNL while RRI 11800 manages to be JBA. But at
2200:15, JBA carrier briefly on 11785. Recheck at 2215 not even that.
Finally at 2234 I tune UTwente to confirm no 11785 --- but there is
Ms. Badax on 9875.007! That`s the 2030-2130 English frequency running
way overtime. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. S9+15/25, but
in addition heavy ACI from stronger 9880 which is CRI Esperanto with a
Chinese? accent, for S America via Kashgar, EAST TURKISTAN, land of
imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uighurs and other Moslems; not
that that gets Turkey off the hook for denied genocide against
Armenians a century ago. Anyhow, not going to try to listen under such
circumstances, and besides, it`s primarily time for BBC and NBC news
on TV. But recheck at 2254 both 9875 and 11785 off (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2243 monitoring: confirmed Monday
May 20 at 1930.5 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160.001 S9+20 and
3975.003 S+10, into UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Tuesday May 21 at 0334 the 0330 on WRMI 7780,
S9+10/20 into Querétaro SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday May 21 at 1322 the 1300 on WRMI 9955, S5/S7
very poor direct. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated, by MO or
check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702.
Thanks this week to Sheldon Harvey, Québec who sent a box of
equipment.

woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17790, May 21 at 1527, WRMI-7, with IS and IDs,
``programming resumes at top of the hour`` -- NOT! 1530 stops and
something undermod, presumably ``Radio Africa`` to S America.
Propagation continues very degraded, but at S7 direct, this wins as
the SSOB. Not all WRMI frequencies ``resume`` at ToH, but they don`t
have a runup version specifying ``bottom of the hour``. Nominally
17790 would start at 1500, until 2100. Something`s odd at Okee (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 4840, May 21 at 0658, S9+50! of dead air from WWCR direct,
as often happens late at night instead of TOMBS. Standard derision
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13845.026, May 21 at 1534, WWCR-3 perceptibly off-frequency,
so I check two remotes for accurate measurement: UTwente inaudible,
yet enough signal to lock onto as above. Same readout for NH SDR,
accurate calibrated with WWV. MUF is such that 13845 is weaker than
usual while 12160 blasts in direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** URUGUAY. 24965 USB, May 20 at 2206, CX4RT working FL and other US.
Only phone signal on band. A few minutes earlier, nothing at all on
10m. QRZ.com: ``CX4RT Uruguay flag Uruguay, Juan Conde, Aveneu Victor
Hugo casi Lope De Vega Post Code 20100, Punta del Este Grid Square
Locator GF25MB Uruguay`` -- putting that GSL on your letter might
confuse the posties! Photos of antennas, equipment, motorcycles and
three girlchildren on website (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 10024 AM, May 21 at 0650, S3/S5 with a trace of
modulation; broadcast spur? Klingenfuß shows numerous South American
`Air` SSBs on 10024. Besides Lima, EiBi shows only Tegucigalpa,
Honduras, ``COCESNA Cenamer Control``, never specifying AM or SSB mode
for anything (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 21530, May 20, Chinese? S3/S5, OSOB. Nothing in latest
HFCC; Aoki & Eibi show Sound of Hope 21529.7 and CNR1/Firedrake jammer
but not between 13 and 23. Not off-frequency so very likely jammer
from western ``China`` such as East Turkistan to be propagating way
over here mostly day path (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) {Time missing the
first time from this, the point being that it was at 1517!} cf CHINA

Glenn Hauser logs May 19-20, 2024  View Printable Version
Monday, May 20 2024

Logs

** ALGERIA. 17600, May 20 at 1752, NO signal from Ifrikya FM into
UTwente, apparently off; it still gets 11935 Sa`udi buzzroar, q.v. No
15160 either. 17599.998 is however on by next check 1811, S7/S9 in
French, no 15160. 1821 brief break in transmission during music. 1823
several more and stays off till 1824.5. Of course I am hunting for a
floating English segment if they can stay on air.

After music, 1837 into English with FM frequencies, but who cares
about SW? 1838 Zoom Africa, ``guh-reetings to you``, she starts. About
IT innovations 20-22 May event in Algiers. Besides some
overmodistortion, her pace and accent are a bit of an obstacle and the
musical background is annoying; 5G networks, etc. 1842 already wraps
up referring us to various web platforms for more. 1843 other
announcer about this multi-national exhibition on agriculture,
livestock. 1844 back to music-only.

17600 & 15160 are the onlies registered in HFCC every hour from 06 to
19; then 17600 & 13790 at 19-22; 13790 & 15110 at 22-03; 9500 & 9700
at 03-06. That`s it. Béchar at 131 degrees is on 15110, 9500, 17600.
Others are ``Ourgla`` at 210 degrees. Béchar, in the NW corner of
Algeria next to Morocco, is more favorable for us directly off the
back = 311 degrees NW. WRTH spells the other, SSE of Algiers, Ouargla,
which searching immediately confirms is correct. Could also be
transliterated from Arabic as Wargla -- the ``Ou`` being the French
version of W, oui2. Aoki goes with Ourgla, EiBi both as alternatives
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1120 kHz, May 20 at 1520-1530+ UT, NO signal
from KETU, 10 kW Spanish daytimer, Catoosa (Tulsa). If on, it would
certainly be audible by groundwave. It`s been sporadic in the past. I
still have a JBA carrier on 1110, more likely KFAB Omaha NE remnant
than closer KVTT Mineral Wells (Metroplex) TX. When it was newer years
ago, I visited the 1120 site: gleaming steel towers, no red or white
paint (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Sunday evening May 19 into UT Monday May 20: Four major
OKC TVs in wall-to-wall storm/tornado coverage all evening till circa
local midnight. CBS KWTV ``9`` shunted 60M to KSBI ``52``. Some of
them got live video of tornados in the dark during lightning flashes.
Again Enid lucked out, but OKC area hit and also north of here. If
anyone would like to experience what we do, I imagine that KFOR, KOCO,
KWTV, KOKH are also streaming. We got hail for 5+ minutes. Damage
inspexion next morning sees two guywires loose on the rooftop TV
antenna yet it`s still erect. Need to go up there and secure them.
More storms coming this week and next; happy May! (Glenn Hauser, Enid,
WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, May 20 at 1750, still 1845, 1921, horrible
buzzroaring from Riyadh, no program audio, S9/+5 into UTwente (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.010, Sunday May 19 at 2200, VOT English not off the
air, S9+30/45 into UTwente and I don`t even bother to check it direct.
UTw displays frequencies to the hundredth of one Hz, where they are
never stable. This is mostly in the top half of the .009 to .010 range
so rounding it upward tho never surpasses .010 as I am watching. Some
editors do not understand how to do this, rather lopping off all the
digits right of the decimal, can`t be bothered with precision!

Ms. Badax presents the news. 2217 song starts, ``Time for your
letters`` -- what?? I must be imagining as the song is really in
Türkiyesh! 2220 brief item about May 19 being a holiday, start of
Atatürk`s independence revolution in 1919y, now celebrated as his
``Youth and Sports Day``. 2222 L`Box theme axually starts. Usual
friendly host rushes thru more QSL requests than usual from:
``Litonia`` i.e. Latvia but the name sounds more Lithuanian? He has
trouble making out their postal address. Then Italy, India, another
India, Pakistan, Klepov in Moscow, Pakistan, India, NC/USA, Germany,
India same person as before, India same person for 3rd time: how many
letters do they send every week? Finally Fiji for the first time from
someone with an Indo-Portuguese name. 2238 out of time so play another
song. 2242 finally L`box outro, multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2244
music. 2252 Badax headlines, or rather repeating at some length the
holiday item, and about Georgia. 2255 s/off as if the 1230 on 17620.
Something`s always awry at Ankara. 2255.5 IS, 2256 pause and restart
IS with German ID, something`s always erroneous at Emirler, but
chopoff at 2257.3* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2243 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
May 13 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.995 kHz, S9 into UTwente,
nothing on 918 or 207 kHz: do they ever test/turn those on? Also on
WRN Europe webcast, and WRMI webcast-only.

Also confirmed at 2158 the 2130 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975, S9+5
and 6160 S9+10, into UTwente.

``Good evening Glen[n], I was listening to "Wavescan" tonight on 7570
kHz (2300 UT, Sunday). Upon completion, there was a station ID and
then the current "World Of Radio" broadcast was aired. I listened to
the entire show until 0000 UT. S meter readings on my recently
calibrated Hammarlund HQ-145AC were 20db over S9. Truly 55555. I guess
this was a bonus airing? I enjoy having both shows ("Wavescan" and
"WOR") back to back in the evening. Hank Blackwood, Dalton, GA``

I see both are now on the System D sked, instead of Argentina on
weekends, so hope there to stay for a while; aims across NAm at 315
degrees like 5850, where WOR was dropped. Am glad to be on 7570!, tnx,
Jeff.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 20 at 0041 the 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+15
into Querétaro SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday May 20 from 0301 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160 -70
Hz = 6159.930, S9/+15 into NH SDR. Next:

1930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW [irregular];
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;

** U S A [non]. 3955, May 19 at 2300, special test of `Uncle Bill`s
Melting Pot` via Channel 292, GERMANY, good S9+15 into UTwente, while
// 9670 is JBA as to be expected that close in nightmiddle. Worried,
as previous music program was breaking up/overmodulated/distorted but
UBMP OK. Seems that rather than music, at least 50% of the hour is
talk, interviewing two musical guests, as I am distracted
by tornado warnings west of Enid; see OKLAHOMA.

Bill Tilford advises about next shows:
``Uncle Bill's Melting Pot, 15 June 2024 as follows:
A. 1700-1800 UT on 9670 Beam E-F (best for South Asia remote
listeners)
B. Repeat: 1900-2000 UT on 3955 & 6070 kHz
C. Repeat: 2300-2400 UT on 3955 (best for East Asia remote listeners)
June's program will feature music from Haiti and the Dominican
Republic.
[and one week earlier: From the Isle of Music]
All on Radio Channel 292 from Germany. Both shows honor reception
reports using kiwi SDRs PROVIDED that which SDR is specified and the
entire hour's content is reported with details (the entire hour rule
will be strictly enforced beginning in June). Reception reports can be
sent to tilfordproductions@gmail.com`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 21530, May 20, Chinese? S3/S5, OSOB. Nothing in latest
