Logs
Hello all!

This is my first message to this prestigious list.
I first listened to shortwave in 1998. They were sporadically catches, mostly
BBC transmissions. I started requesting QSLs only in 2009. In 2018 I started
to keep methodical records. In 2020 I am starting to share them.
I hope they are of some interest. You can see my two last week activities
below. I plan to send my LOGs weekly, although the periodicity of reports
may vary a bit. Thank you. A nice 2020 for everyone!

Best regards.

Logs
Correcting first time mentioned: 1856, not 1956

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 15 at 1856 tune-in, RHC with weather advisory in
Spanish, but modulation fades down to nothing! Resumes, then cut again
during ID; 1900 back on as choking Arabic is opening with some more
cutouts; wiggle that patchcord. 1929 opening Kriyol. Something`s
always wrong at RHC. At least the languages are correct as alleged inn

Logs
** CANADA. 370-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0725 UT, dash and YBV, ND beacon,
50 watts from Berens River, Manitoba, which is more than halfway up
the eastern shore of long Lake Winnipeg (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 15 at 1956 tune-in, RHC with weather advisory in
Spanish, but modulation fades down to nothing! Resumes, then cut again
during ID; 1900 back on as choking Arabic is opening with some more
cutouts; wiggle that patchcord. 1929 opening Kriyol. Something`s
always wrong at RHC. At least the languages are correct as alleged inn
WRTH 2020 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Tropo TV DX opening: see USA with OK logs mixed in

** U S A. Tropo TV DX opening, UT Jan 15 from ~0435 tune-in bandscan,
starting with RF30, DTV 29-1, KMPX-HD. The ``HD`` on the PSIP ID is
flashing on and off, something I have never seen happen before on
anystation. Do most including myself not know that is possible? It`s
an Estrella TV affiliate, CoL Decatur TX, i.e. The MetroPleX market.
W9WI.com shows no subchannels, but I find a 29-2 labeled KMPX-2, and
in this case the ``-2`` is alternately flashing with a `2`` lacking
the hyphen or a space. Program here is a live(?) call-in show of
horoscope advice, showing the guy doing it and large Ft Worth and
Dallas phone numbers. Rabbitears.info does have this one listed as SD,
``Estrella Dos``, but there are no other such substations accompanying
any other Estrella affiliates, such as our KOCY `48`.

Hepburn tropo map predixions show for 0300 & 0600 UT a `strong``
level-5 enhancement blob over most of eastern OK, extending into north
TX. As usual, Enid is barely on the edge of lesser rings. I am also
getting solid signals from RF 26 KTEN-10 Ada; Tulsa markets: RF 45
KOTV-6 -- yes, still not repacked; RF 28 ``Ion`` 44; RF 20 KQCW-19; RF
11 KOED-11; and strangely on RF 10, PSIP almost invisible, as if not
``enabled`` which says DTV 8-1 ABC --- that has to be KTUL, also with
subs: 8-2 Comet, 8-3 Antenna, 8-4 TBD. RF 34, DTV 41-1 KMYT has subs
but not explored during brief peak.

Another Metroplex signal decodes at 0507: RF 36, 39-1 KXTX-DT, along
with 39-2 Exitos with a cop show originally in English.

And one more from Dallas: RF 14, 13-1 KERA-HD; 13-2 Kids; 13-3 Create,
the PBS subs. Interspersed with RF-13 KETA OKC also virtual 13 which
has World on 13-2, but Create also on 13-3 and Kids on 13-4.

The opening also extends barely into AR at 0610: RF 21, 40-1 KHBS-DT
which is 325 kW ERP in Fort Smith. All this via my partially broken
rooftop ch 7-50? antenna pointed roughly SE.

Also a few unID BAD signals, such as something on RF 9.

Next check around 16 UT Jan 15 finds NO TV DX; Hepburn map shows the
enhanced area now extends from SW Missouri to SW Texas, but is
narrower and the edge is too far away from here (Glenn Hauser, Enid
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 426-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0719 UT, ND beacon UV, which is 25
watts from Oxford - Tunng, Mississippi. I was tuned to 424-USB.

420-MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0721 UT, two ND beacons mixing at same pitch;
finally unravelling them: PK, Olathe - Herbb, Kansas; and FQ,
Fairmont, Minnesota; both 25 watts (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A WORLD OF RADIO 2016 monitoring: confirmed Wed Jan 15 from
2100 on WRMI 7780; a few bits if music inserted between the Zanotti ID
and me, good via UTwente; S7-S9 here.

Also confirmed Wed Jan 15 from 2200:22.5 on WBCQ 7490.245, S9/+10;
(BTW inaudible at UTwente off the back, while 9330 500 kW is only
poor-fair off the front. BTW2, 15770 WRMI was also inaudible over
there before 2100 when R. Tirana should have been relayed) Next:

0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE
Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

Logs
** CUBA. 13566, 13634, 13767, 13834, 13900 approx., Jan 14 at 1542,
spurblobs at 66-68 kHz intervals from RHC 13700. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15370, Jan 14 at 2042, RHC in Brazuguese is overmodulated /
distorted; while 15140 in English is OK. Aoki says 2030 (``3020``) on
15370 is supposed to be in French; EiBi says English! except French on
Sundays; WRTH says French, daily, as does RHC`s own B-19 schedule.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11850, Jan 14 at 2338, RHC Spanish is S9+10 but suptorted;
also with parasite weak spur carrier on 11840, but not enough audio to
match, and probably another on 11860 vs residual jamming. Strange that
I have never found an RHC frequency in the morning with plus/minus 10
kHz spurs, tho one would expect same transmitter to be in use other
than the tardes. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** IRELAND [non]. 7290, Tue Jan 14 at 1925, via UTwente SDR, IRRS with
much better signal than yesterday when WOR was JBA, but still not up
to par; about the Bushes involved in Iraq wars, clips of them
accompanied by banjo music; what program is this? 1934 check, now in
`Wavescan` as scheduled. Good but with ACI from 7295 CRI East
Turkistan. As it`s closing by 2000, sandwiched between CRIs on both
sides (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO [and non]. 710, Jan 14 at 0707, Mexican NA is playing until
0708 when no Spanish talk heard other than Rebelde Cuba peaking from
another angle; this being from WSW, which fits for the only NW Mexican
outlet, XEDP, Ciudad Cuauhtémoc, Chihua2 at local midnite, often heard
here despite listed night power of 100 watts vs day power 7000. IRCA
Log also shows it as 24 hours, and mentions it being off-frequency,
which was only part-time, and not heard askew here now or recently.
Considerable CCI too from English, likely Amarillo and KCMO, and
persistent 711 TA carrier het, prime suspect being 300 kW Morocco
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU. 5980, Jan 14 at 2352, JBA carrier from R. Chaski under Cuban
jamming against nothing else; until autocutoff at 2353:49*. Last check
was January 11 at 2353:55.5*, 6.5 seconds later, 3 days earlier,
averaging <2.2 seconds earlier, per (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 15400, Tue Jan 14 at 1546, poor signal with
flutter, seems like English but very heavy accent I cannot lock onto.
It`s Radio Tamazuj, 250 kW, 150 degrees via VATICAN, mainly in Juba
Arabic per Observer, but which does have 10 minutes of English on
Tuesdays & Thursdays sometime during the 15-16 UT hour, per WRTH 2020
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 14 at 2332 check, VOT English to N America is
AWOL yet again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non}. 1090, Jan 14 at 0702 UT, KAAY Little Rock AR in
dead air again, until 0705 gospel music starts in nominal format.
Meanwhile, I hear the 1 kHz het from 1089 UK Talksport headed by a 400
kW with several synchros almost doubling that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5915, Jan 14 at 2333, VP signal, maybe in French? But
CRI English via Kashgar to S Asia is registered; other possibilities
at this hour per EiBi, Zambia if all-night, and Myanmar, which would
not be in French either. Myanmarianese is rather distinctive (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
