Radio Madagasikara 6135 kHz receveid in Mexico.  View Printable Version
Monday, September 28 2020

HCDX
I send you this DX note from Mexico:
I hope that other colleagues report it, as its emissions are irregular, according to the publication "Africa on MW & SW" by The British DX Club.
Reception in Mexico of R. Madagasikara (Language Malagasy) in frequency 6135 kHz shortwave, this signal  comes from  Antananarivo in Madagascar with 30 kw power.  Time13:25-13:53 UTC, Date: September 27, 2020.
"Radio Madagasikara - Radio Nacional Malagasy (RNM) is the state-run broadcasting service in Madagascar. It operates on mediumwave, shortwave and FM. All private broadcasting in Madagascar is on FM only. RNM shortwave transmissions appear to be less reliable than they were years ago, but Radio Madagasikara has been heard irregularly on both 5010 and 6135 kHz in recent times, sometimes in parallel". KNNS 1510, a 1KW Daytimer between Great Bend and Dodge City is on after
sunset with a talk format. New log for me! KPLS Denver is usually pretty
listenable here at night is getting beat up somewhat hard at times.

Listened for the entire first hour, and despite phasing, multiple antennas, and every trick I know—not a beep of audio tonight.
Set up for the 2nd hour, ready to decode FT8. Within the first two minutes, I had a successful decode! This at 886 miles without a trace of audio in the headphones. By the 20 minute mark, I had three successful decodes. USB seemed to work better here, but I got successful decodes in AM mode at 5 kHz bandwidth as well.
Rig was my Icom IC-7300 with an end fed wire, up about 40 feet.
FT-8 is amazing. Duke—I gotta get a QSL for this one! History in the making.

Brazil Pirate on 6305 kHz?  View Printable Version
Sunday, September 27 2020

HCDX
---South American:
Possible Brasillian pirate on 6305 kHz AM: I’ve been hearing
this rather poorly for the last few nights. Checking the
KiwiSDR receiver in Brasilia where it is much stronger, the
station is playing pop music with announcements that are in
Portuguese. THe programming is very slick and includes ads.
This could be a Brazilian pirate relaying a licensed station,
something that they are reported to do sometimes. At 0015 UT,
I have it at S3-4 with faint audio. (Andy Robins, Kalamazoo MI,

I sent this message to HCDX last night but it never appeared on the reflector; maybe lost in the reported email snafu:

Hearing a pirate station on 6305 kHz, from 2320 this evening [i.e., Thursday evening]. On the SAL antenna, it's clearly coming from the southeast, while all the usual Europirates are coming from the northeast. So it doesn't seem to be in Europe. Based on what I can hear of the language, I'm guessing Brazil. Does anyone have info on this? Thanks. (Art Delibert, North Bethesda, MD, 9/24/20)
