Tuesday, May 14 2024
** AUSTRALIA. 28262 CW, May 14 at 2204, only direct signal on 10m, beacon or phone in a quick scan, is JBA fading in and out here - long dash of ~26 seconds and can`t copy it fully in maybe a semidozen passes, but right after the dash there is VK###. WGB list shows only this here or nearby, and with a 30-second dash: ``28262 VK2RSY - Sydney NSW AUS QF56mh - #0 (10 Jan 2024) Note: ID + grid + 30" carrier. Pwr 25w``. Meanwhile I was trying SDRs across the US, in Maryland, Illinois, and two KFS in Californa, NW & SW antennas and none were getting it except a trace at Athens, Georgia, about like I had it. QRZ.com, nothing about a beacon: ``VK2RSY Australia flag Australia, Amateur Radio New South Wales, PO BOX 6044, Dural Delivery Centre, NS 2158, Australia`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CHINA [non?]. 17855, May 14 at 0640, JBA signal, the OSOB except for stronger 17600 Algeria: so CNR1 jammer and/or RFA Mandarin via TINIAN this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17715.013, May 14 at 1914, REE S9+30 into UTwente. Now 17855 is also active, S9+5/15, but nothing on 15390 and 15520. Something`s not normal at Noblejas. In Spanish, like `Tablero Deportivo`, silly ballgame. Same situation at 2220 recheck during non-English on Tuesday (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 14 at 2200, VOT English, JBA carrier direct. 2230 into UTwente when measured, S9+35/45, badax talking about AI; outro credit written by someone at Cambridge [mispronounced] University, 2236 music; 2244 multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2246 `Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products` about tile, music; 2253 s/off by non-badax YL as if only the 1230 on 17620. Something`s awry at Ankara. At least they got the right season this time. 2254 IS until 2255.5* in time to avoid German (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: Confirmed UT Tuesday May 14 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+10/20 into Querétaro SDR. Also confirmed Tuesday May 14 at 1319, JBA into Peoria SDR the 1300 on WRMI 9955. Earlier was inaudible direct, confirmed on webcast, only a traceline on waterfall into Maryland, no signal into Bonaire. Bad prop and/or underpowered? I had missed checking some times on SW Gold Radio, Germany: Sun 2130 Shortwave Radio, Germany 3975 6160 Mon 0830 Shortwave Radio, Germany 6160 Mon 1930 Shortwave Radio, Germany 3975 6160 but seems it has been off the air: ``Yesterday (13 May 2024) Shortwave Radio/Shortwave Gold was observed signing on for the day at 0657 UT on 6160 kHz with English announcements superimposed on their signature tune - Candy Dulfer's sublime saxophone solo "Lily Was Here". Time pips and BST/CET timechecks at 0800 UT, followed by --- silence. Unmodulated tx on for 5-10 minutes then the plug was pulled, for the rest of the morning at least. No trace of it this morning as of 0930 UT. David Kernick, Interval Signals Online`` Next WOR chance: Tuesday 2330: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. Tuesday, May 14 2024
** CANADA. 15034 USB, May 14 at 0142 & 0218, surprised to hear Trenton Military day frequency, and with reports received! And not on night frequency 6754 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5025, May 13 at 0600, S9+25/40 of dead air from R. Rebelde. Something`s wrong at RadioCuba. Last few nights had been nominal, not logged (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. Pulse jamming against nothing, May 13 at 0605, nor is any target rationally to be expected at this late hour, on: 7355, 7365, 9490, 9565, 9955, 11860, 11930 strongest, 12060. None audible beneath very strong Martíes really in use, 6030, 7335, 7435 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 4765, May 14 at 0137 and 0218, no signal from R. Progreso. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** LIBERIA. 6050, May 13 at 0603, music S6/S7 direct, presumed ELWA. Usually nothing more than a JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, May 14 at 0145, dialog, OL deep southern accent complaining with salty language, music in background, S9+30. 0217 recheck, rock at S9, OPOB. These say it`s WTF Radio Worldwide: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,129515.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, May 12 at 2209, SNR surprisingly strong, S9+10/20 direct, while little else beyond carriers from overseas on this and lower bands. But it`s Sunday, so Spanish, not English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 17855, Monday May 13 at 2200, NO signal direct from token English on SNR to North America. Propagation OK, since the S American frequency 17715 offbeam is quite audible. Nothing heard on the other two, 15520 & 15390. At 2216 into UTwente, ONLY 17715.013, S9/+5 and zero on the other three which are OFF. Somethings` nonfunxional at Noblejas. Interview topic on an exhibition thru Aug 25, about city design, ``La ciudad visible, la ciudad en juego``. 2227 summary of Eurovision Song Contest, which ones were disqualified, Switzerland won and Spain has not for 55 years (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY, 11785.009, Sunday May 12 at 2210, VOT English a JBA carrier direct, but 2220 into UTwente when measured, S9+30/40, `Letterbox` already started, host talking about riding a bike, then acknowledging mail, almost all QSL requests from: India, México, Eugene [sic] in Moscow who is a fan of host, Pakistan, same Indian again, A. Klepov in Moscow, Italy. 2234 ``goodbye, my lovely dear listeners, have a nice weekend`` and as always concluding with an unID song until 2241 when `L`box` outro=intro finally plays, and more music. 2258 recheck is already off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 13 at 2200, JBA carrier direct from VOT English to us. At 2218 into UTwente when measured, S9+45 music; 2219 multi-lingual ID filler reel, music; 2230 badax about languages, nautical terms from Greek, outro as `That`s Why` until 2231.6, music. 2235 ``with you every hour`` promo, music; 2244 TRT World promo, music; 2253 headlines, s/off for satellite & internet only, no SW; 2254 IS; 2256 pause and restart IS with German IDs; cutoff 2258.3* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 356 MCW kHz, May 13 at 0640 UT, ODX, 25 watt ND beacon at Ord, Nebraska. Ord is in E Central NE, between Elyria and North Loup on Hwy 11, distance 586 km = 364 stmi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 404 MCW kHz, May 13 at 0643 UT, JBA carrier, too weak to copy any ID. Probably 25-watt HU in Hutchinson KS, `Saltt`, much closer than MN and CA ones RNA-listed, and much weaker than the ordinary Kansan on 407 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: Also confirmed Sunday May 12 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S8 but noisy and fadey into UTwente. Also on WRN Europe webcast and WRMI webcast only. Also confirmed UT Monday May 13 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S7/S9 but noisy into Georgia SDR. Also confirmed UT Monday May 13 at 0300 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.939, S9/+10 and fluttery into NH SDR. Next: 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW [irregular]; 1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]; 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. Thanks this week for a contribution from Russ Lay, VA? via PayPal to: woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9455, May 14 at 0136, WRMI very undermodulated, rock music, rather like 5050 Legends but not //. 9455 supposed to be RAE in Spanish. At 0220, 9455 now good mod, S9+20/30, ``Baby Love``. Supposed to be System K this hour, but not on the System K sked itself. Something`s odd at Okee (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5130.2v, May 14 at 0138 & 0219, no signal from WBCQ All-*rump-All-The-Time; 6160- and 7490- and 9330 are nominal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7596.5v, May 13 at 0611, variable tones rather musical, but repetitive, best in USB. Can`t pinpoint a specific carrier frequency, more than one? What is this? Audible roughly between 7593 and 7600 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9680 USB, May 13 at 0628, 2-way INTRUDERS in colloquial Spanish, laughter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0248 UT May 14 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser logs May 12, 2024 |
|
Sunday, May 12 2024
We continue with near-blackout SW conditions: what can we expect, with an A-index of 272, blackouts reaching R3 level, per WWV. Generally on May 12, only the closest USignals are good, WWCR, Grimesland, on lower daytime bands, otherwise mostly JBA carriers at best (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ALGERIA. Re 17600 & 15160: ``The English segment (at least, the one that starts anywhere between 1800 and 1845) is called "Zoom in Africa". e.g.: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=670721051846340 Alan Roe, Teddington, UK`` (via Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. Re my 1510 log: ``R. Monumental 1510, Neil Kazaross May 11 #41226 Oops now I read that XEQI is inactive so I don't know what my early SS was but it wasn't needed Ecuador.`` - IRCA iog. Read about, where? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 4095, May 12 at 0624, sweeps upward JBA, log for the record, DW, the Desert Whooper, despite noisy conditions now, last logged Dec 13 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: Re UT Sat 0130 on WRMI 5850: Jeff White confirms WOR has been replaced by something else - yet still on the System F sked as of May 12. NOT confirmed UT Sunday May 12 at 0000 on WRMI 9955, since it is OFF the air, no signal into Maryland SDR nor at 0013 into Bonaire. But 9395 is VG, 9455 JBA. By 0214 we have a JBA carrier direct on 9955. Confirmed UT Sunday May 12 at 0306 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+10/20 into nearby SDR with some storm crashes, the 0315v about 7 minutes into so started early about 0259. Next: 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 1323-Italy; 2130 UT Sunday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to SW; 0300vUT Monday WBCQ Area 51 6160v to WSW; 0830 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 6160; 1930 UT Monday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW [irregular]; 1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?]; 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Major geomag storm affecting WWCR: 4840, May 11 at 0702, S9+20 but with flutter. Likewise 5890, 5935, 5980 leapfrog mixture (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Re: "1330, May 11 at 0242, political ad in gringo-Spanish for elexion later in May, presumably TX primary runoff May 28, but not caught name; and into C&W music. Of the 5 TX, two are C&W: KSWA Graham, 500/51 watts; and KCKM Monahans, 12/1 kW. Graham is S of Wichita Falls, WNW of Fort Worth. Monahans in SW TX near NM SE corner." ``Hi Glenn. KSWA (and co-owned KROO-1430) reportedly had their licenses canceled sometime around August 2023. 73 Tim Hall`` - tnx, so by elimination that leaves only KCKM, not an unusual catch here anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 1570, May 12 at 0628, Bott Network promos, i.e. surely KBCV, Hollister (Springfield) MO, U4 5/3 kW - tho NRC AM Log shows one other Bott on 1570, KLEX, Lexington (Richmond) MO, U1 250/40 watts. No echo here but could be in central MO between them. Network station list puts KBCV in Branson; plus lots more mostly FM: https://bottradionetwork.com/stations/ HQ are in Overland Park (Kansas City) KS. KBCV is my closest 1570 at night, since KTUZ Catoosa OK is daytimer; and KTAT Frederick OK is silent, HPRN bankruptcy, but 250/6 watts and think I never heard it. I still think 1570 should belong to XERF, source of Spanish often heard but hardly dominant for 100/100 kW. Mexico even has CPs for three other lowpowers on 1570 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1953 UT May 12 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Sunday, May 12 2024
** BRAZIL. 5940.1, May 11 at 0708, S4/S5 music with flutter, presumed RVM, during auroral conditions and WWCR 5935 weakened. Could not get enough signal on normally best 9665v to compare (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO [and non]. During auroral conditions, bandscanning on caradio for anything unusual such as Spanish; reference IRCA 2023-24 Mexican Log: 590, May 11 at 0217, ``Lo Mejor`` slogan a few times, and Mexicads. That`s XEFD in Rio Bravo, Tams, but listed as La Mejor. RB is right on the border, between Matamoros and Reynosa. Dominating rather than Omaha. 670, May 11 at 0219, sports in Spanish; NO XEs on 670, or 680, surely CUBA; trace of WSCR under. 720, May 11 at 0219, no WGN to dominate, maybe weak Spanish. Nicaragua heard in past, not just Mexico. 750, May 11 at 0220, NO signal from WSB! Blacked out, or off? Easterly not northerly. 760, May 11 at 0221, political ads including Partido Del Trabajo, ad for eStar TV. 0223 TC as 20:23, i.e. CST not MDT. And program `Crónica 7-60` at 8-9 pm M/W/F. Six stations active, led by 70/10 kW XEABC in Edo. Mex., calling itself XERAG as in Radio Alegría. No WJR. XEABC website https://radiocanon.com.mx/programas/ shows 20 programs, but incomplete, this hour not accounted for and no hits on cronica search. But got it! on their FB: https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=487079406981607&set=a.200044909018393 ``Crónica 760 con Miguel Reyes Razo, Al Aire Lunes, Miércoles y Viernes 20:00 hrs`` Branding on web is Radio Cañón, never heard, and not Alegría.. 780, May 11 at 0224, WBBM is JBA 830, May 11 at 0225, no signal from WCCO 840, May 11 at 0226, Meximx rather than WHAS. Three XEs listed, but more likely KVJY Pharr TX in the RGV, SS:REL format 850, May 11 at 0226, no KOA 860, May 11 at 0227, romantic music in Spanish: probably XENL 5/1.5 kW Monterrey, only one with a partially ROM format. 880, May 11 at 0227, something about basura - waste. Only XE- is -CHEP in Chihuahua2. More likely just KJOZ Conroe TX 890, May 11 at 0227, no WLS 940, May 11 at 0405, ``XEQ-AM 940, 10 mil watts, La Q``, CST check. Had been 50/50 kW but proclaiming 10 as if bragworthy. CDMX. 1030, May 11 at 0229, Mexican elexion ads, so not Corpus Christi; of 5 XEs, most likely XEQR, 44/1.2 kW, CDMX 1040, May 11 at 0229, no signal or trace from WHO; likewise next 3 minutes from: 1080 KRLD, 1110 KFAB, 1120 KMOX, 1160 KSL. By next check 0355, many of the US clears are beginning to show up again. 1060, May 11 at 0230, immediately R. Educación ID and list of affiliates. Call now is XECPAE tho unheard, 100/20 kW, México CDMX; not always // 6185, unchecked now. 1140, May 11 at 0231, Spanish music, with het. XEMR Monterrey assumed. 1190, May 11 at 0232, ``Contacto 11-90``, Nuevo León, i.e. XECT Monterrey, supposedly 100 watts at night! 10 kW day. 1200, May 11 at 0651, no WOAI. Was sometimes audible, sometimes not. Would expect it to be enhanced rather than blocked by aurora. 1280, May 11 at 0233, ``La Grande``, also with medium het, probably another station off-frequency. 0241, ``A-W, 101.3`` from Nuevo León. XEAW, 10/1 kW, Monterrey. Recheck 0355 now English station dominant. 1290, May 11 at 0234, religious talk in Spanish. Neither of two XEs with that format, rather very likely per NRC AM Log: KRGE, 5/5 kW, Radio Vida, Weslaco TX in the RGV. 1330, May 11 at 0242, political ad in gringo-Spanish for elexion later in May, presumably TX primary runoff May 28, but not caught name; and into C&W music. Of the 5 TX, two are C&W: KSWA Graham, 500/51 watts; and KCKM Monahans, 12/1 kW. Graham is S of Wichita Falls, WNW of Fort Worth. Monahans in SW TX near NM SE corner. 1340, May 11 at 0243, KGHM Midwest/OKC dominates instead of buried by graveyard QRM. Also many highband regional channels have only weak signals, so many of them blacked out. 1460, May 11 at 0238, Spanish music. KZUE El Reno OK should be off, daytimer. Several SS elsewhere in US, no good fits, as in TX, KBZO Lubbock is sports. KTKC Springhill LA is SS:REL. Only XEs are in Chih, Son. 1500, May 11 at 0238, no KSTP but Spanish. Likely XEDF CDMX 50/50? kW 1510, May 11 at 0239, Spanish, ``1,510 AM``: XEQI, 10 kW ``daytimer``, Monterrey NL. Shux, not Ecuador. 1670, May 11 at 0240, Spanish music, low het caused by this off+plus: XEFCR, Reynosa, Tams. 10/1? kW We never could see aurora here in Enid OK, despite several tries, somewhat hazy. SWPC Oval 10% probability reached into Kansas, later retreated into Nebraska. https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/images/animations/ovation/north/latest.jpg For 0000 UT May 12, only to north half of Canada (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 11 at 2205, NO signal direct from VOT during prolonged geomag storm. 2219 however checked at UTwente when measured, music at S8/S9+10, weaker than usual but plenty. 2226 `Turkey`s Geomarked [sic] Products`, repeat about honey for only about 2 minutes, then nothing but music fill until 2253 s/off, claiming this has been the 1330-1430 on 13635! That applied to B23 only. Something`s always awry at Ankara. 2254 IS about thrice until chop at 2254.5* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 293 MCW kHz, May 11 at 1543 UT, my furthest regular daytime ND beacon is still audible, FBY, Fairbury, Nebraska, groundwave unaffected by geomag storm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: NOT confirmed UT Saturday May 11 at 0130 on WRMI 5850: instead music, fill? tho we are still on the System F sked at this time. Maybe one brief announcement circa 0150 I could not catch in time. Confirmed UT Saturday May 11 at 0400 on WTWW 5085, strong signal but unusually fluttery due to aurora. Not confirmed Saturday May 11 at 1455 the 1430 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160, NO signal into UTwente: off the air, or blackout? No 3975 either. Confirmed Saturday May 11 at 1600 on WRN webcast for North America. Not confirmed Saturday May 11 at 1737 the 1730 on SW Gold Radio, no signals on 6160 or 3975 into UTwente. Definitely off since the other lowpower Germans are well audible on 3955, 3985, 3995. Confirmed Saturday May 11 at 1927 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, Steady S9+15 groundwave into nearby SDR, about 20 minutes into so started way early circa 1907! Also confirmed from 1930 on WRMI webcast only and WRN webcast for N America. Major geomag storm affecting WWCR: 4840, May 11 at 0702, S9+20 but with flutter. Likewise 5890, 5935, 5980 leapfrog mixture (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. SW blackout May 11 at 1535-1540: No SWBC signals on 9-22 MHz bands! Except JBA traces of WWCR on 15825, 13845, 12160, not 9980. Next survey May 11 circa 2200, 11 thru 17 MHz bands are mostly dead of signals except for weakies: 15770 WRMI, 13845 WWCR, 11780 Brasil, and strong 11930 GB Martí; 9 MHz has recovered better but nothing beyond USA; VG 9980 WWCR, 9475 WTWW, 9350 WWCR. Fair on 9565 GB, 9265 WINB; poor on 9455 & 9395 WRMI; 9330 WBCQ JJBBA carrier. WWV reported at 2100 May 11, also via Richard Lemke: ``Solar-terrestrial indices for 11 May follow. Solar flux 214 and estimated planetary A-index 291. The estimated planetary K-index at 2100 UTC on 11 May was 7.33. Space weather for the past 24 hours has been extreme. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G5 level occurred. Solar radiation storms reaching the S2 level occurred. Radio blackouts reaching the R3 level occurred. Space weather for the next 24 hours is predicted to be extreme. Geomagnetic storms reaching the G5 level are expected. Solar radiation storms reaching the S2 level are expected. Radio blackouts reaching the R3 level are expected.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 12160, Sat May 11 at 1700, as expected, WWCR-2 too poor to listen to `Talking Machine Show`, but so is the stream, weak and distorted, surely coincidental, not due to geomag storm (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2348 UT May 11 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
