** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, May 16 at 1928 quick check into Argentine SDR, LRA36 is on at S3/S5 during scheduled Thursday 18-20 UT broadcast (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO [and non]. First major sporadic E FM DX opening of the season, May 16 from 2259 UT past 0110 UT May 17, at least from Campeche, Yucatán, Flórida; to be researched and compiled for my next report (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 89.3, May 16 at 0241 UT, KIEL Loyal, the R. 74 International 3ABN station must get a bit of tropo boost so it`s strong enough to muscle aside local 89.1 translator, allowing me to be sure that KIEL, even with music, is in MONO. This fact is not shown in the WTFDA Database. That should be in the MODE field, blank in most cases meaning surely plain old $ tereo. Searching on Mono and OK gets not a single hit tho there are more than 250 in the whole DB (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, May 16 at 1915, neither horrible buzzroar nor Rep. of Yemen Radio, no signal from Riyadh into UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2243) ** SPAIN. 15390, May 16 at 2116, this REE to Africa is still missing, but others 15520, 17715, 17855 are in use tho poor to very poor into UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2243) ** U S A [and non]. NOT confirmed Thursday May 16 at 1630 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160, NO signal into UTwente; nor on 3975 WORLD OF RADIO 2243 contents: Algeria, Australia, (Bangladesh), Brasil, Canada, (Chile), (China), Finland, Germany, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, México, Netherlands, New Zealand, Panamá, (Philippines), Sa`udi Arabia, Slovakia non, Slovenia, Spain, Taiwan, Turkey, USA and non, Vanuatu, Vietnam and non; dismal propagation, outlook - (countries mentioned along with others not in order) Note: At 10:00 into show, I misspeak date for RRI Nabire: May 11, not 17. As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated, by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. Thanks this week to Sheldon Harvey, Québec who sent a box of equipment. One may also contribute, not necessarily in US funds, via PayPal to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5130.3v, May 16 at 0631, still no signal from WBCQ A*ATT; 6160- is nominal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2243) ** U S A. Re KBCV-1570: ``Just catching up on some of your reports from earlier this week. Hollister, MO is very close to (butts right up against actually) Branson, not Springfield. Both about 40 miles from SGF. So KCBV should be considered part of the Branson market. 73, Randy Stewart`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. DXMAP shows sporadic E between OK and CA up to 96 MHz so at 0240 UT May 16 I hasten to the caradio: of course, nothing unusual heard until 0256, but I make some nearby notes: at 0242 a distorted signal I can`t pinpoint to 92.7, 92.9 or 93.1 is concluding an Amber Alert distorted with 3 tones, and nothing further as if turned off. All the while a 92.9 was audible under, probably KRQV Tulsa. MAYBE the nearest 92.7, KWME Welllington KS, was bleeding as I listen further. On 92.7 itself, too much ACI from 92.5 KOMA. BTW on this caradio, there is always more ACI splash on the plus than the minus side of any given frequency. I suspect the digital tuning be slightly misaligned. See also OKLAHOMA. Then I receive this: ``Hello Glenn, My name is Mat (N6AVI), and I have been an avid FM DXer for the past few years now here in sunny southern California. I wanted to let you know that there is currently an Es opening to your area of Oklahoma (according to a fellow WTFDA member), I even caught KNID FM [107.1] just a moment ago. Thought I'd let you know. Happy DX! Mathew Amador`` (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1549.91, May 16 at 0627 UT, het upon 1550.00 signals; what could it be? Nothing close in mwoffsets nor in my archive search (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 10091 USB, May 16 at 0649, 2-way bits sound Portuguese, English. In aero band. ** ALGERIA. 17599.998, May 15 at 1738, Ifrikya FM, S8/9+5 of music we think of as `Horn of Africa` but this is not from the Horn; have also heard the style well inland into Sudan/South e.g. I shall keep an ear on it via UTwente for some English to come: not at 1803, just music still at 1808; French ID at 1814; 1820-1825 brief floating English segment: about Nigeria (not Algeria) economic problems, naira, IMF, etc. YL has a good accent but speaks too fast making her hard to follow; also some overmodulation distortion and annoying continuous music mixing. I suspect that some ESL speakers try to impress us with their fluency by speaking as rapidly as possible rather than aiming for clarity. Gives her name and ``signing off`` already at 1824; then ID in English, ``from north to south, east to west`` with FM frequencies 105.6, 98.?, 93.2, 89.9 in different cities including Oran, 1825 back to music and French talk segments past 1854 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SAUDI ARABIA. 11934.998, May 15 at 1737, Riyadh with Qur`an, S9+5/15 into UTwente but noisy and undermodulated; rather than horrible buzzroar at the moment. Presumably still Rep. of Yemen relay; if you listen long enough, you should hear an Arabic ID mentioning Yemen (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SLOVAKIA [non]. Re far-right PM Fico, shot in an assassination attempt, I mentioned previously in connexion to trying to take over RTVS and consequently RSI: I pronounced his name incorrectly as `Fee-koh`, but the -c- is really pronounced as -ts- unless there be a cap on it, -ch-. https://mylanguages.org/slovak_alphabet.php In the news, BBC? I heard the ts, but PBS Newshour was still saying Fiko. We should know better if we paid attention to RSI via WRMI, where they probably pronounce him correctly despite antipathy. English from the source: 1900 Internet only; 2200 on 5850; 0030 on 15770, 7730?, 5850; 0130 Tue-Sat on 5800; 0300 on 7730, 7780; daily u.o.s. per skedgrid, not all confirmed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. REE chex before 18 UT May 15 find it nowhere into UTwente, since the WHem channels do not start earlier on weekdays and the two EHem channels are still OFF. At 1805, 17715 for SAm is on, VG S9+30/40, as is 17855 for NAm, S9+20 while 15520 & 15390 are silent. Eds. note: do not change ``NAm`` to Nam -- it means North America with a capital A, not Nam as in Viet! 17855, Wed May 15 at 2200, token English from SNR, sufficient but fadey direct into DX-390 portable: no news, but part 2 of Alison Hughes` old report about US/Spain relations during the Cold War/Franco era, including a nuclear accident (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009, May 15 at 2200, VOT English JBA direct due to noise level. S9+35 via UTwente from 2224 when measured, Badax concluding algo, music. 2228 `The Middle East and Turkey`, about relations with Algeria, which Turkey/TOE once ruled. Guess what: Libya may be considered ME, but Algeria would really be pushing it. Something`s always awry at Ankara. Series resumes next week, same time, same day? 2233 music. 2242 `Sports Panorama`. 2249 music. 2253 no headlines, s/off as if just the 1230 on 17620. 2253.7 IS until chopoff at 2255.5* in time to avoid extra German (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2242 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday May 14 at 2330 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.002, S8/9+5 into UTwente. Also confirmed Tuesday May 14 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S6/S9 into Peoria IL SDR. Also confirmed Wednesday May 15 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 6160.000, S9+15 into UTwente, and switching to 3975.001, weaker S9+10 and a couple words behind: is that an artifact, really not synchronized if heard direct on two identical receivers at once? Also confirmed Wednesday May 15 at 2128 the 2100 on WBCQ 7489.928, VG S8/S9 into NH SDR. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated.
