Logs
** BRAZIL. 11855.749, July 12 at 0533, JBA talk, S1-S2, obviously the
always off-frequency R. Aparecida. Next check at 1206 I remeasure it
at 11855.754 (11780 RNA is also audible now) (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CHINA. 9255, July 12 at 1328, VP talk in Chinese? Aoki/NDXC shows
this as a *jammed Sound of Hope frequency. No others noticed in this
area (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA [and non]. 7435, July 12 at 1152, pulse jamming vs weak
Chinese talk, i.e. CRI eastward from Beijing during this hour. Radio
Martí is on 7435 only at 03-05 UT: the incompetent DentroCuban Jamming
Command lets it run anyway, Commies vs Commies! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13739.243, July 12 at 1258, RHC is only S5-S7 here, and once
again knocked itself way off-frequency, 1301 ID; while // 13700.0 has
just come on much stronger, S9+20. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1319.959, July 12 at 1220 UT, low audible het
caused by KCLI Clinton always off-frequency, beating against something
I really can`t null, probably KLWN Lawrence KS approx. opposite
direxion. With both nulled I get some music, but I am really looking
for KWHN Fort Smith AR which is news/talk, since the July/August MW
News reported from UK:

``NORTH AMERICAN NEWS --- 1320 KWHN Fort Smith, AZ ]sic] –
operating at reduced power (1 kW vs licensed 5 kW) from a longwire
antenna due to flooding, also affecting 950 KFSA which is silent``
Just how much power can a longwire tolerate?

I do not measure KCLI until 1543 UT when there is no confusing QRM.
The MW Offset list shows relatively recent data, but no KWHN:
http://mwlist.org/mwoffset.php?khz=1320

1319.9615 KCLI (Clinton, OK) 2018-01-23
1319.9947 KLWN (Lawrence, KS) 2018-01-23
i.e. 33.2 Hz apart, but KLWN off-frequency-minus itself by 5.3 Hz;
while my measurement of KCLI puts it 41 Hz below exact 1320.000 (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 34, July 12 at 1354 UT, KMYT-TV 41-1 Tulsa is
intermittently decoding, as Hepburn tropo map forecast for 15 UT shows
Enid in a fair/level 2 band, Tulsa in moderate/level 3. A number of
other Bad VHF/UHF signals, such as somewhat decoding on RF 21, KUOT
OKC at 1410; but I stick with this one exploring its subs:
41-1 is MyTV – no surprise
41-2 is GetTv
41-3 is GritTV
41-4 is HNI per PSIP, but H&I per bugs mostly in the LR corner; it
stands for Heroes & Icons, a channel we don`t get from OKC. 1400 UT
starting `High Chaparral`. Pro arte, I snap a number of DTV pixel
breakups on 41-4, such as:
http://www.w4uvh.net/KMYT1.jpg
http://www.w4uvh.net/KMYT2.jpg
http://www.w4uvh.net/KMYT3.jpg
http://www.w4uvh.net/KMYT4.jpg
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330.00, July 12 at 0526, WBCQ-6 with WLC Radio is holding
up tonight, still VG S9 to S9+10. Next chex starting at 1200 find NO
signal on 9330, nor at 1542. As I mentioned in previous report,
revised HFCC sked appears to be 12 hours out of whack. So if we don`t
hear 9330 at 19-24 UT, we should instead look for Arabic on 15180 at
19-22 and 11705 at 22-24. That makes a lot more sense propagationally
than starting 15180 at 2 am EST in Maine!

7490+v, July 12 at 1151, no signal from WBCQ (or WWCR yet). No sign
yet of WBCQ putting Brother Scare on this transmitter at ``all unsold
times``, since the other apocalyptix at WLC have pushed him off
9330+v. I wonder if he will be shoehorned into various `open` hour or
half-hour slots during the existing briefer span, instead of AAAWWW
playbax, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 530, July 10 when visiting Wichita, no signals heard there
or around South Haven from the Kansas Turnpike Authority`s TIS
relaying Wichita NOAA Weather Radio. The FCC TIS list does not find it
(or never?) and it`s the very bottom entry in this long roster
http://www.mwlist.org/mwlist_quick_and_easy.php?area=3&kHz=530
since no callsign was known for it. With `K530AM` Vance AFB still
silent, on a quiet day we ought to be able to detect something from
nearby Kansas if any exist (Glenn Hauser, KS, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1190, July 12 at 1215 UT, ``69 degrees at our studios in
Beloit``, i.e. KVSV, U4 2300/90 watts should now be on day power,
immediately overcome by EWTN promos, from further KDMR Kansas City MO,
U2 5000/500. KVSV in north-central Kansas, pattern is circle tangent
direxional to NW, not very good for us to the south, while KDMR is ND
(Keep Doting on Maria Regina --- what else could it mean?) (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Logs
** CUBA. 6100, July 10 at 0602, RHC English is S9+40 and splashing out
to plus/minus 15 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13740, July 11 at 0130, surprised that the BST-1 caradio
memory stops here at RHC Spanish. I think this frequency has been off
air evenings for a long time. It`s not in Aoki or EiBi, Aoki does not
even show the morning broadcast at 11-14. RHC`s own website
http://www.radiohc.cu/interesantes/frecuencias
still shows the B-18 sked! When 13740 was for Buenos Aires at 22-05.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 7365 & 7335, July 11 at 0548, wall of noise jamming and
hardly a trace of Radios Martís; usually RM is way over jamming here,
but auroral conditions must be taking out Grimesland NC way up north
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6100, July 11 at 0550, RHC English is S9+30 but
undermodulated, and the carrier is cutting out rapidly and
irregularly. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

6165 is S9 but JBM; 6000 is S9+10 and undermodulated; 5040 is
S9+20/30, good modulation except for some hum, but cuts off early at
0553*. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15370.0, July 11 at 2222, RHC Spanish is S9 but JBM; at least
it`s not off-frequency today! Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MALI. 13640, July 11 at 2224, undermodulated weak S8-S9 talk,
presumably French as scheduled for sporadically active CRI Bamako
relay, and off at 2227* (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 1140, July 10 at 1255 UT, KRMP OKC with W&M talkshow, and
as I bandscan down, hear the same conversation a few seconds later on
1050, presumably KGTO Tulsa. Then they split for some different PSAs
and ads on 1050. Both are sloganned ``Heart & Soul`` apparently some
syndicated service, and so is the other 1050, KXCA Lawton, weaker and
further but which previously I have heard echoing against KGTO. By
1302 UT, 1140 & 1050 are // again but in music (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1989 monitoring: missed confirming
the Wed July 10 at 2100 on WRMI & WBCQ, busy and tuned in a few
seconds too late at 2129! But at least on the portable PL-880, 9955
had a sufficient signal.

Confirmed UT Thu July 11 at 0100, on WRMI 7780, VP in storm noise.

WORLD OF RADIO 1990 contents: Australia [WTFK? 5055], Bougainville,

Kuwait, Myanmar, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Turkey, UK, USA;
publications; long and short-term propagation outlooks.

** U S A. 9330.00, July 9 at 2220, WLC Radio via WBCQ-6 toward the end
of its first UT day on air continues in Arabic, rather
strange-sounding compared to what we hear from genuine Arabs –
including mentions of Western names, and, Allah-forbid, never a bit of
Qur`aning! Much weaker signal during Arabic eastward compared to
English westward. Schedule we had from HFCC showed changing to English
at 2300, but there is no transmission break before then and indeed
after the ``IS``, looping slightly over one minute, heavy on the
dramatic cellos (could someone identify where this music came from?),
one more hour in Arabic after AW`s quick legal ID in English.

By 2354 has built up to only S8-S9; off at 2355* for antenna rotation,
back on at *2358:45 now S9+20 with IS; 0000 opening English, after YL
apocalyptic intro as via ``Montichello``, the two British guys
co-hosting with informal-sounding banter; one is Dave Wright, the
other Miles something. They don`t sound like they are looney tunes.
But starting with correct nomenclature advisory for deities, etc. At
0556 recheck, no signal at all, perhaps still on but not propagating.
Super-power cannot overcome uncooperative MUFs!

9330, July 10 at 2353, good but not super signal, off-mike Arabic
speech from echoey venue, distortion fades. 2356:25 change to IS and
WBCQ ID once,, off at 2357*, 2358:30 attempts to cut back on but off
again; finally back to stay at *2400:35, JIP bigsig English already in
progress as UT July 11 starts.

By 0553 recheck, down to a JBA carrier; 1326 rerecheck, no signal
detectable vs noise level of only S2. Others have now reported that it
went off just before 0800 when Arabic should have resumed, and further
reports find it missing from 9330 all day July 11. I check UTwente SDR
at 1818 and all I hear is OTH radar clicking(?). At 1820 on my own,
still no signal. By 2303 has finally come on with Arabic, poor
S9/S9+10. Finally at *2359:30 cuts on English bigsig again.

Meanwhile, HFCC as of July 11 shows quite a different 500 kW schedule
for WBCQ, still Arabic and English only, but times jumbled, and even
some new frequencies as yet unconfirmed; it`s backdated as from 24
May, obviously imaginary:

15180 07-10 Arabic 75 degrees
11705 10-12 Arabic 75 degrees
9330 12-16 English 255 degrees
9330 16-18 English 300 degrees
9330 18-20 English 57 degrees
9330 20-07 Arabic 75 degrees
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1990, DX LISTENING DIGEST) Guess
what: languages are 12 hours displaced from original schedule: bet
someone mixedup am and pm! (gh)

** U S A. 5085, July 10 at 0603, WTWW-2 poor S8-S9 with flutter in
music, so is the Pete Santilli far-right talk show gone again?

Propagation is degraded: 5830 WTWW-1 and 5935 WWCR are JBA carriers at
0604 July 10, also displaying Doppler flutter. 4840 WWCR is slightly
better, merely poor, also with Doppler; while 3215 WWCR remains OK, VG
at S9+10. Lowest band holds up when highers do not.

24 hours later, July 11 at 0553, propagation is still disturbed: Now
5085 is a JBA carrier as well as 5830 and 5935; 4840 is S9+10/20 but
not solid (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 12050, July 11 at 1330, WEWN carrier is cutting off the air
quite accurately once per second. So we hear Spanish talk only in bits
when it`s on, but JBA at S7. By 1402 has become OK (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WORLD OF RADIO 1990, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 1130, July 10 at 2258 UT, KLEY Wellington KS is still off
the air as it has been since at least May 3; have checked it maybe
once or twice a week since then. Its 250 watts daytime used to make it
just fine to Enid, despite direxional-north pattern. Now there is no
doubt whatsoever, since I am driving right by KLEY a few miles south
of Wellington, circa 60th street SE, on the east side of US 81. Now
all signage has been removed and no cars or indication of any
habitation. There are still two towers of different heights for its
ex-direxional day pattern; and about half a dozen big ugly dishes on
the south side of the small whitewashed building.

So I tune to 100.3 and there it is! With rock music and late 2302 UT
ID as ``KLEY 1130-AM and K262CQ 100.3 FM, Wellington``; plenty of
local ads, and 2304 UT, ``The Wave, 100.3 and 1130, from the Wheat
Capital of the World``, and some music by Prince. But, but, how can a
silent AM station have an FM translator??? Announcing 1130 does not
make it so, duh. And I`ve already explained how Enid is the Wheat
Capital, not little Wellington.

Perhaps FCC has not been notified? There is nothing at AM Query about
Facility 31895 being silent. At night it might as well be, with 0.001
kW power. Long live KWKH! (Glenn Hauser, KS, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9380+, July 11 at 1321, very poor RTTY; one peak seems
about 9380.9; maybe the same OC mystery previously on minus side of
9380 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
