I doubt VTR is mixing with a station 230 miles away

3rd harmonics of NDBs can be a real problem on the 160 meter amateur band also. Several have caused QRM (interference) to stations there, and had to be shut down temporarily for repair. The NDB transmitters are rather primitive affairs, without much attention paid in design to spurious or harmonic generation.
