A Change In DXing Venues For Me!  View Printable Version

Paul,

I presume the AM was in the same building. The picture would make a great QSL card!
No wonder you are interested in seeing my QSL. I will post it as soon as I can move the stuff, so I can get to the file cabinet. I am rearranging my DX Room, as I had it for storage for the last 4-5 years.

Patrick

Some of you either figured out what was up or I told you directly for one
reason or another

I’m now the program director for KSKO-FM 89.5 McGrath, Alaska.
90 watts at -81 feet. The transmit antenna is the cross shaped 2 bay Scala
FMO dipole at the very top and that yellow dish just below it is the STL
for the now defunct KSKO 870, which was 10kw non directional full time.
The tower still stands even though the AM has been off for 5 years. Space
is leased to GCI for cell phone service on the old AM tower 2 miles south
of town, and one of the reasons the AM went off and was replaced with low
power FM repeaters is because the AM was (and now cell is) generator
powered, at $ 5-6 a gallon.
What spelled the end of the AM was back in 2013 or so when the barge
couldn’t make it up river and gas ballooned to $ 8.50 a gallon.
The class D repeaters KSKO has are in about half a dozen other villages fed
by Barix boxes and satellite internet.
Yes, milk, fruits/veggies and stuff is as expensive up here as you think.
Yes it’s cold. I am still doing my other radio jobs via remote
voicetracking, I'll continue Afternoons on Hits 106 KLMI Laramie, WY...
I'll continue Sunday afternoons on WHGM Gold in MAryland and overnights on
Local Radio Networks 24/7 Classic Country format.

I have my icom 746pro and a longwire, a DXE Preamp, an Emtech ZM2 tuner and
I have a loop on the way from Doxytronics for my DXing. I eventually plan
on getting an SDR connected to the internet set up out here.
