Hauser

Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my almost-daily all-band but mainly SW log reports appear -- or for those who are but find this a more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups of all these reports in their original form are posted early every UT Thursday via:

Glenn Hauser logs Aug 22-23, 2023  View Printable Version
Thursday, August 24 2023

Hauser
** COLOMBIA. 10125, Aug 23 at 0641, I continue to check for HK3QQ
Bogotá, in case he resume despite expired license, and now I do JB
hear letter A in CW, as if starting another keyboard sequence -- but
no SDFGHJKLÑ follows; something else? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9535, Aug 23 at 0638, RHC`s overtime channel tonight, none
others found on any band. S7/S9 but just a trace of modulation, can`t
discern language. EiBi shows 05-07 on 9535 from Bejucal is irregular,
and nothing else on 9535 at this time. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Aug 23 at 2145, R. Cairo, S9+20/35 into UTwente,
undermodulated, distorted with hum, ME music, 1/3 into nominal
sesquihour in English. 2148 announcer talking, unreadable. Something`s
egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 6185-, Aug 23 at 0658 tune-in to deadair from XEPPM, but
it`s just a pause, as then multiple IDentities starting with
``Cultura, Mil Sesenta AM...`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 101.5, Aug 23 circa 2045 UT, still dead air from KOCD
Okeene, as has been since at least Aug 9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 24, Aug 23 at 1510, 1615, 1710, KOKH ``Fox 25`` OKC is
off the air again. And so is its sibling Sinclair station, RF 33,
KOCB, ``CW 34``. The two have exactly the same coördinates in the NE
OKC antenna farm: must be due to tower work or some issue there.
Rabbitears.info shows both horizontally:
NAD83: N 35° 32' 58.2", W 97° 29' 19.1" (35.5495, -97.488639)
But different vertically, not HAAT, not significant? Feet:
KOKH: 1585 agl 2717 amsl
KOCB: 1526 agl 2657 amsl
IIRC, 1572 feet was the astonishing ``world`s tallest`` height of
KWTV-9 in the 50s. We are still seeing both Sinclairs on cable in
Enid, as Optimum gets OKCs via fibre-optic or something, not off-air
pickup anyway. I see nothing on either station`s website about being
off the RF air, who cares? As they also live stream:
https://okcfox.com https://cwokc.com/
``The stations' studios and transmitter facilities are co-located on
East Wilshire Boulevard and 78th Street on the city's northeast side.
Wikipedia``. Next check at 1830 UT, both back on at normal VG level
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN [and non]. 17855, Wed Aug 23 at 2200, token English from SNR,
VG into NH SDR; also 17715 and 15520 just as good, but 11670 with
squeal and splash from 11660 music which must be CRI French via East
Turkistan, std. denunciation. Previews feature about women`s football.
I say: Yes, women should be equally able to waste their lives playing
stupid ballgames! News starts with fires in Tenerife, Greece. 2210
about a photographic exhibition featuring neglected black people; then
on to history of WFB in Spain, facing discrimination in earlier years
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009, Aug 23 at 2200, VOT English not off the air, VG
into UTwente, S9+40 but somewhat distorted. 2213 `Review of the
Turkish Press` about TRNC. 2215, two-minute multilingual ID filler
reel. Just for a change, they should identify in English each language
one by one for our edification. Many we can recognize, but telling
various Turkic or Slavic languages apart is challenging. 2217 music
break. 2221 `Weekly Commentry` repeat of the one yesterday already,
and still almost incomprehensible tnx to the badax. This and TRNC on
`ROTP` make me wonder if the whole hour be a rerun. Off the air
shortly after 2300 check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2204 monitoring: ``From: Richard
Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening
Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees.
Dear Glenn: Confirming World of Radio #2204, notes, loggings, WRMI:

9395, static in area, 0030, 0043, 0058 (45433), 0058, August 22 UTC
2023 [Tue]
9395, 2330, 2358, 2359 very weak, August 22 UTC 2023 [Tue]
(Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Confirmed Tuesday August 22 at 2348 the 2330 on WRMI 9395, S9/+10
direct.

Did anyone hear the Wed Aug 23 1000 and/or 1030 WORs on Unique R,
Australia, 5035-USB?

Confirmed Wednesday August 23 at 2127 the 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -71 Hz =
7489.929, S9+10/20 into NH SDR. Next:

0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Thanks this week to Gwynn Reel for a contribution via PayPal to
woradio at yahoo.com, ``I've been a listener since the 1980s. I
appreciate your accurate, detailed content!``

One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank in US funds to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

New WOR 2205 should be ready early UT Friday August 25

This report dispatched at 2353 UT August 23

Hauser
** CHINA [and non]. 21490, Aug 22 at 1503, S5/S8 of dead air with
flutter until 1505*, surprise SSOB vs JBA carrier 21550 Algeria. Must
be CNR1 jammer overrun past 1500 vs Sound of Hope per Aoki. Wonder
if short path from East Turkistan site, rather than from further east
short path across nightside. On 21 MHz, skip distance to provide
jamming disservice across populous east China, a west ``China`` site
would make sense (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA [and non]. 15610, Aug 22 at 1459 weak signal with W&M chat,
English? Wondering if WEWN has resumed morning as well as afternoon
emissions. But chopped off air at 1500* mid-chat. Might be CRI from
format except for no program break at hourtop. Aoki shows VOA Kurdish
via BOTSWANA at 1400-1500. Wait, there is still a JBA carrier after
1500: CNR1 jammer and SOH before and after then also on 15610 per Aoki
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. 9439.995, Aug 22 at 2150, R. Cairo, strong but extremely
distorted in presumed English into UTwente. Something`s always
egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 24, Aug 22 at 1529 UT, no signal from KOKH Fox ``25``
OKC. Normally ``local`` quality. Is back on at next check 1800 (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 25, Aug 22 at 1430 UT, KWTV ``9`` OKC is on the air
but instead of local `News9` hour, is relaying sister station from
Tulsa, `News on 6` KOTV, with apologetic crawler. Evidently KWTV`s
studio produxion is out of order (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.003, Aug 22 at 2200, VOT English, huge S9+50/55 into
UTwente, slightly distorted in talk; s/on and news. 2210 `Review of
the Turkish Press` about TRNC et al. 2212 multi-lingual ID filler
reel. 2214 music, now extremely distorted. 2222 `Weekly Commentary`
also distorted and as always voiced by the badax. Something`s awry at
Ankara. ``Penned`` by some PhD candidate in Washington DC, about China
and/or something. I give up on that. Recheck 2252, s/off, 2253 IS
distorted slightly more than once before chopoff; no finesse, and:
something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2204 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday August 22 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+20/40 direct.

NOT confirmed Tuesday August 22 at 1300 on WRMI 9955, a new addition
to the WRMI skedgrid! Something else is on. I`m feeling like Charlie
Brown.

Status of all the WOR listed times on System B effective Aug 7:
Fri 2030 web: to be confirmed
Sat 1930 web: confirmed for 2 weeks
Sun 0000 9955: to be confirmed
Sun 1030 9955: to be confirmed, ex-1130 when not confirmed
Sun 2000 web: confirmed NOT for 2 weeks
Tue 1300 9955: confirmed NOT Aug 22
If really on 9955, those are also web- and phone-cast

Next:
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW
1000 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB
1030 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB [previous #2203]
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW [dead air last week]
0030 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW

Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15150, Aug 22 at 0656, weak signal with heavy flutter. Must
be WMLK PA which sometimes has a big solid signal. Now maybe
backscatter in prop disturbance (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11500-11518, Aug 22 at 0652, strange whine; pitch
changes with each 1-kHz step but does not center at one spot (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 2304 UT August 22

** AUSTRIA. 15265, Aug 21 at 1509, talk at S9/S7 with flutter, the
next to SSOB behind 15140 Cuba. EiBi shows AWR Turkish at 1500-1530
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Aug 21 at 0628, tonite`s RHC overtime frequency,
undermodulated English talk by dull expressionless YL, S9+10/30
direct. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 17460, Aug 21 at 1506, two musix on slightly
different beating frequencies, no doubt the current chosen spot for
Recep`s jammer to collide with Dengê Welat allegedly via Uzbekistan.
No other signals now in this 17450-17495 area (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. LW monitoring has been stymied by high storm and
high line noise levels. But I can tell that SW 255 kHz Stillwater OK
and RG 350 kHz OKC are still off the air. Still on are PN 515 kHz
Ponca City, and EI 341 kHz Enid (Glenn Hauser, Enid, Aug 20, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 101.5, Aug 21 at 2030 UT, KOCD Okeene continues its
dead-air streak since at least August 9 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Mon Aug 21 at 2210, token English from SNR, VG
direct, about the Spanish civil war *1936, 100,000? in mass graves
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, Aug 21 at 2223, VOT English, S9/+10 direct,
multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2225 `Did You Know That`, slight
distortion exacerbated by the badax, can only understand an occasional
word: o, it`s a repeat about yogurt mentioned a few times as well as
Istanbul. Off the air by 2300 recheck this time (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2204 monitoring: again this week
NOT confirmed Sunday August 20 at 2000 on WRMI webcast only, rather
sounds like ``world music`` filler; despite WOR listing on skedgrid.

But at same time, Sunday August 20 at 2000, yes, reconfirmed on WRN
webcast of European stream; and on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz,
S9+10/15 into nearby Noale SDR. Whew, since our other time on 1323,
Friday at 2030, was replaced without notice by something else.

This was after a music show featuring something from Gambia, outro at
2059 as on IRRS but I never hear any program title. O, on sked it is:
`IPAR - 16 Gwendoline Street` as part of International Public Access
Radio, which also applies to this WOR broadcast. But what in the world
is significance of that street address? Top hit on broad search leads
to Raceview, Queensland, 4305. Another is in Mount Gambier, South
Australia, 5290. And another in Glenholme, Rotorua District, 3010, New
Zealand. Yet another in Price Town, Nant-y-moel, CF32 7PN, which
judging from the strange names and postcode must be in UK. Yes, Wales,
as in CardifF, and several more in UK!

One recent DX website says:
``QSL 16 Gwendoline Street via IRRS-NEXUS 1323 kHz
August 4, 2023 / Peter Reuderink / 0 Comments

As a follow up to my previous post: I received a kind email from
Stephen Jones (gwendolinestreet(at)gmail.com), the producer of “16
Gwendoline Street”. I received this program via IRRS-NEXUS, Italy,
1323 kHz. Stephen wrote that the program I received a program that was
made by Rose from Radio Northern Europe International while he was
visiting a poetry festival on the Isle of Wight.

“16 Gwendoline Street” has been on air via IRRS since 2007. Focus is
mainly on a core group of dedicated listeners to what Stephen
describes as “Loosely Arts based”.``

That still does not explain why it names a programme, and I doubt it
would work as a postal address for reception reports. Posties also
might mistake it as an attempted delivery address rather than
addressee name. But I digress.

WOR 2204 also confirmed UT Monday August 21 at 0030 on WRMI 7780,
S5/S7 into Louisiana SDR starting with 14-second noise blast QRM.

Also confirmed UT Monday August 21 at 0300, S9+10 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6160 -68 Hz into NH remote = 6159.932; JL gotta go and see-ya at 0259,
brief electronic Star Spangled Banner and then me. Next:

** U S A. 9330, Aug 21 at 2141, no signal direct from WLCR on the
WBCQ-6 super-stition. Wonder what`s wrong now. Other US 31mb signals
evident from WINB, WMLK, WRMI, and blasting above all as usual, 9350
WWCR. Into NH at 2321, the 5130+, 6160- and 7490- Classic BCQs are all
on but not 9330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 13020, Aug 20 at 1345, Chinese S4/S6 direct with flutter,
one of countless CNR1 jammers against Sound of Hope, also audible this
daypart (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA. ``Dear Glenn, according to the official Colombian
registry of Colombian hams, RABCA [Radioaficionados y Banda
ciudadana], HK3QQ actually doesn't have a valid license. He had one
but finished in November 2021. Yesterday I heard that Mr. Ernesto
Reyes reporting to the Colombian Fraternity net on 7145 khz USB at
about 2230 UT. Sorry to have to inform that situation. Please keep my
identification confidential. Thank you.``

So that may explain why we no longer hear him on 10125-CW. Still has a
QRZ.com page, bare-bones, but that site is totally unofficial. I
wonder if they take any measures to assure everyone be licensed?

** CUBA. 18135 USB, Aug 20 at 0102, CO8LY calling QRZ and then CQDX;
at first he doesn`t hear those replying. There are only one or two
other phonesigs on band. Nice to hear him again; he used to be a
mainstay on the 24 MHz band - where I have heard zero activity lately
as I tune across even when 28 MHz be somewhat open. QRZ.com: CO8LY
Cuba flag Cuba, Eduardo Somoano Cremati, P.O. Box 104, Santiago de
Cuba 90100, Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6865 USB>LSB, Aug 20 at 0125, rock music with heavy
beat which continues as various IDs talk over it: 0126 YL with ``Mix
Radio International``. 0132: ``You are listening to Radio 48 on Mix
Radio International ... dares to be different``. 0134, ``Riders on/of
the Storm`` song. It`s mainly USB but also audible when I switch to
LSB with much lower modulation. There is no carrier. A VG S9/+20
signal, the OPOB = only pirate on band. I compare it to the non-pirate
WBCQs presumably with much bigger transmitters: MRI with better signal
than 5130+, 6160-, 9330, slightly less than 7490-, but *louder* than
any of them!

Many more reports here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,117248.0.html
No one mentions the USB>LSB matter, but rave reviews of the audio and
its expanded bandwidth (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 4170, Aug 20 at 0137 UT, third harmonic of local 1390
KCRC, good with silly ballgame - usually only a trace of this, and
still only a trace on 2780 second harmonic. I`d be interested to know
if anyone beyond Enid can hear them (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TIBET [non]. 11569.75 approx., Aug 20 at 0112, JBA carrier vs an
equally weak one close to 11570.00 - Aoki & EiBi show AIR Tibetan
service via Delhi/Kingsway at 0100-0230, which of course has to be
jammed by the ChiCom occupying Holy Tibet, probably with CNR1, site
unknowable but not necessarily inside Xizang. I suppose Akashvani is
more likely to be the skewed one. Both references still list it as All
India Radio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2204 monitoring: confirmed UT
Sunday August 20 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, VP into Durango2 SDR but
audible except for 14-second noise blast QRM at the start. Later into
Louisiana SDR, much better S9+10/20.

Also confirmed UT Sunday August 20 from 0322 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO,
VG S9+10/20 into nearby SDR.

One needs to keep checking the WRMI sked grids even if there be no
change in the Update date. I do so after 05 UT Sunday and spot some
new WOR times: UT Sunday 0000 on 9955, too late to check this week;
Tuesday 1300 on 9955; Friday 2030 on webcast only.

NOT confirmed Sunday August 20 at new time 1130 on WRMI 9955, which
supposedly just started last week. I manage to become awake today only
to find a gospel huxter on instead. Later another check of the still
dated ``Aug 11`` skedgrid *now* shows WOR an hour earlier at 1030!
Hope this last more than a week, altho very early for North Americans.
