Glenn Hauser logs February 13-14, 2020 |

Friday, February 14 2020
Correcting the date on this one, Feb 14, not 13; fixed:
UNIDENTIFIED. 11860, Feb 14 at 0113, music JBM at S5-S7, and not // RHC 11850 which puts out spurs on 11840 & 11860. Could it be Saudi`s Republic of Yemen Radio which I have not heard clearly in over a year? Thanks to the Cuban radio war in the daytime. Aoki says Yemenish does not start until *0200; EiBi *0300. Anything else? CRI Nepali service not until *0130. Or could it really start at 0115, due to Nepal`s wacko +5:45 timezone? BTW I can`t help but wonder if timezone confusion has led to any Everest fatalities among all the visiting foreigners (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Friday, February 14 2020
** CANADA. Bedtime beacon bandscan concentrating on less- or never-heard ones, Feb 13 at 0711-0719 UT finds these from four provinces:
392-MCW kHz, dash and ML, 500 watts from La Malbaie - Charlevoix QC 385-MCW kHz, dash and QV, 100 watts from Yorkton, Saskatchewan 355-MCW kHz, dash and YWP, 200 watts from Webequie, Ontario. Where`s that, and how is it pronounced? http://www.webequie.ca/ ``Webequie is a growing Ojibway community located on the northern peninsula of Eastwood Island on Winisk Lake, 540 km north of the city of Thunder Bay. The 850+ community members originate from all over Northwestern Ontario, and enjoy a life that embraces traditional cultural practices. Surrounded by Winisk River Provincial Park, Webequie provides tourists a pristine natural landscape with some of the best fishing and hunting in Northern Ontario`` 353-MCW kHz, dash and PG, 25 watts from Portage-la-Prairie, Manitoba; mixing with IN and LI, the confusing MN/AR overlapping pair 340-MCW kHz, dash and YY, 500 watts from Mont-Joli, Quebec (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5040, Feb 13 at 0646, RHC still in Spanish instead of English, and suptorted altho S9+30; also with a big hum. Wiggle that patchcord. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [and non]. 7405, Feb 13 at 0641, Cuban wall-of-noise and pulse jamming altho not very strong, IIRC a frequency abandoned years ago by OCB. Also jamming against nothing on 7335, where RM is never currently scheduled; and Radio Martí over jamming on 7435 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13700, Feb 13 at 1538, NO spurs today --- how is it that other days they are all over the band from same frequency? But 13740 is still on with dead air, so something`s still wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15369.23, Feb 13 at 2150, for third day, this RHC way off-frequency at the same offset, S9+10/20 but suptorted in Brazuguese. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, Feb 14 at 0114, RHC is S5-S7 and JBM, also with a JBA spur carrier on 11840; but carrier on 11860 bears non-// music, see UNIDENTIFIED. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 6185.716v, Feb 14 at 0105, XEPPM is still way off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU [and non]. 5980, Feb 13 at 2329, Cuban noise jamming is running, altho could not detect it for a day or two; JB allowing the Radio Chaski carrier to be heard, until autocutoff at 2352:50.5*. Last check was Feb 8 until 2352:59.5*, 9 seconds later, 5 days ago, averaging 1.8 earlier each night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 13 at 2353, VOT English is not only on today, but still on running much later into the hour than usual, with headlines, only at 2354 sign-off claiming this has been the 1330-1430 broadcast on 12035! Well, maybe it was as recorded without bothering to update any `news` as supposedly done thru the 2130 show. 2354.6 starts playing IS but I don`t stay with to tell if German succeed. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler and/or Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 2097.3-CW, Feb 13 at 0651 UT, single-letter beacon A is absent again. Last few nights had tuned across and heard it when I paused for at least 10 seconds, without bothering to relog (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. It had been off due to damage since Feb 8 and still off early UT Feb 13, which is what I based my WOR 2021 comment upon (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 11860, Feb 13 at 0113, music JBM at S5-S7, and not // RHC 11850 which puts out spurs on 11840 & 11860. Meanwhile, a resounding lack of interest, no replies found to my previous reports of these posted ASAP to MW groups, requesting other DXers try to get a DF fix on them. Should they recur I shall certainly report them (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0421 UT February 14 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Thursday, February 13 2020
** CUBA. 13508-trace, 13572, 13636; 13765, 13831, 13896, 13958 approx., Feb 12 at 1448, spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM; the closer stronger ones more readable FM than AM mode, not at all in SSB. Averaging only ~64 kHz intervals, never landing on OCB/jamming. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15369.233V, Feb 12 at 2139, RHC way off-frequency for second day, S9/+10 in Brazuguese, and // abnormally weak 11880.0 S7. 15140.0 is still on but dead air, after all-day distortion. Usually all three are in Portuguese at 2100-2130 rather than 3 different languages. At 2130 supposedly scheduled are Arabic on 15370, Portuguese on 11880. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EL SALVADOR. 18120.06-USB, Feb 12 at 1919, one signal making it on ``17m`` phone: mostly repeating only callsign over and over fonetikally, occasionally inserting CQ or QRZ. Accent makes it hard to read, plus mixture of official ICAO and unofficial fonetix: at first I thought he was saying ``Ocean United one ---`` something; then pretty sure the suffix ``Delta Lima`` --- but then the first letter more like ``Hotel``. Only a few minutes later does he get a real contact. Yup, QRZ.com lookup goes nowhere to OU1DL which might be in Belgium, but hits upon HU1DL as: ``German DXpedition 2020 La Paz, El Salvador QSL: OQRS, DL4SVA Page managed by DL7VEE Lookups: 114976 German DXpedition to El Salvador from January 30 to February 13, 2020 Operators: Andy DH8WR, Tom DJ6TF, Werner DJ9KH, Frank DL1KWK, Dietmar DL2HWA, Norbert DL2RNS, Georg DL4SVA, Olaf DL7JOM, Rolf, DL7VEE, Franz DL9GFB Thanks to YS1AG, YS1GMV, YS1MAE, YS1MS, YS1RS, CRAS, SIGET. WORLD OF RADIO 2020 monitoring: confirmed Wed Feb 12 after 2100 on WRMI 7780, JBA on portable. Also confirmed Wed Feb 12 starting at 2200:20 on WBCQ 7490.110V, S9+10/20 initially but soon fading down to S7-S9. Next: 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1090, Feb 12 at 0702 UT, KAAY Little Rock drops to dead air after lengthy PSA about veterans. The exact time this happens varies somewhat (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Feb 12 at 0643-0649 UT: 585, 612, 639, 711, 747, 774(2), 837, 855, 882, 891, 909, 936, 1044, 1053, 1089, 1107, 1125, 1134, 1215, 1314 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1477 & 1503 kHz approx., Feb 12 at 1432 UT, spurblobs out of some 1490 station are still audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2325 UT February 12 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Wednesday, February 12 2020
** CANADA. 399-MCW kHz, Feb 11 at 0720 UT, ND Beacon dash and ZHD, which is 25 watts from Dryden - Barclay, Ontario.
406-MCW kHz, Feb 11 at 0721 UT, NDB dash and YLJ, which is 40 watts from Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan, I was tuned to 405-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13491, 13558, 13630; 13770, 13841, 13911, 13982-trace approx., Feb 11 at 1532, spurblobs at 70-71 kHz intervals out of RHC 13700-AM. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15369.234, Feb 11 at 2124, RHC in Brazuguese knocked way off-frequency, and distorted, S9/+10; and also // much better 15140.0 same S reading, but OK modulation; and just as they are all going into music, also // 11880.0, S9+20 OK mod. Lest we forget per EiBi, these are supposed to be in 3 different languages at 2100-2130, Portuguese, Spanish and Arabic respectively. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 2337 recheck, has faded way down to S5-S8 in Spanish, audibly wavering and remeasured at 15369.236 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 6185.75, Feb 11 at 1544, S5-S7 JBM carrier from XEPPM still way off-frequency and way off-time according to own schedule (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1210, KGYN Guymon, in the Panhandle continues to be quite audible here in Enid at night, usually the dominant station on frequency, making me suspect it`s not really nulling toward WPHT Philadelphia; however, we are a bit south of that direxion. Closer to the null line would be Wichita and Saint Louis, and points in between. Could some listeners around there check whether KGYN be audible, and more significantly, is there any change in signal at its nominal SS/SR times which in February are officially: 0030/1330 UT (March: 0045/1300 UT). 10 kW day pattern is ND; 10 kW night pattern of three towers in a row, is a somewhat broad cardioid favoring WSW with deep notch ENE toward Philadelphia. As seen in mv-eko, KGYN is often heard and QSLed from Scandinavia, but that great circle is more northerly. It still has to get past WPHT et al. The Feb issue reports three QSLs of KGYN, two of them signed by owner Greg Steckline (who presumably is at corp HQ in Kansas), and in fact NO other OK MW stations reported heard or QSLed, altho those guys pull in hundreds of US stations more challenging than KGYN (Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2020 monitoring: missed checking UT Tue Feb 11 at 0100 on WRMI 7780; did anyone hear it? Next: 0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1090, Feb 11 at 0651 UT, KAAY Little Rock AR in dead air already, so not limited to hourtops; but 0656 resumed with music; did not get back in time before 0705 to hear the usual news hole tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1477.15V & 1502.85V, Feb 11 circa 0700 UT, distorted weak matching spurblobs, unreadable FModulated, must be out of defective 1490 kHz transmitter exactly halfway between them. At 2340 UT, before 0008 UT sunset here, not being heard, implying, but not certainly that this be westish rather than eastish from here. 1477.235V & 1502.765V, Feb 12 at 0021 UT, now they are reaudible, same type of pairing varied to slightly different tho more closely measured frequencies, i.e. plus and minus 12.765 from 1490.000. So far on the R75 with E-W longwire only. At 0110 UT Feb 12, I employ the hand-held wrist-altazimuth DX-398 with BFO offset, to try to get a DF on them: peaks NE/SW on both of them. This might imply out of my local 1390 KCRC, which used to be a bad spur-producer closer in --- but does not work out mathematically, and besides, the spurs are fading. Nevertheless, just in case, I check the same displacements on the minus side of 1390, i.e. 1277.24 & 1302.76, and hear nothing. On 1490 itself, of course, a pileup of graveyarders, impossible to make any modulation peak match. There are none near enough to here to dominate. NE/SW axis implies most likely MO or TX, or possibly a state neighbor to those, with TX the top choice because they were lacking pre-sunset. So what stations are in that area? There are a dozen TX on 1490! Closest to the SW axis are KZZN Littlefield and KBST Big Spring; a little further CCW are KVWC Vernon (closest), KWMC Del Rio. Also possible, XECJC Ciudad Juarez in the right direxion, one of few Mexicans which may still be active on 1490. The three MO 1490s are KDMO Carthage, KTTR Rolla and KDRO Sedalia. I recall there was a similar pair of unID blobs a good many months ago but haven`t been able to find them in archives by frequency searches. I don`t believe that mystery was resolved. Now it would be very helpful if others in the area from different angles could at least get a DF bearing on them (they should match), if not any readable audio to ID them directly, such as by matching modulation peaks to a local 1490 (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Feb 11 at 0653-0657 UT: 666, 693, 711, 747, 774(2), 846, 855, 882, 936(2), 1044, 1053, 1107, 1125, 1215, 1305. (2) means at least two carriers beating. Notably missing are the big Algerians, 531, 549, 576, 891 --- by now they may be too far into the dayside; not much from BBC either. 846 is extremely weak but is the only one suspected of being TP instead: Kiritimati, where it`s still way after sunset, but I had not been hearing any of it for some weeks; is it still on? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 356-MCW kHz, Feb 11 at 0716 UT, ND beacon PJ. None listed at dxinfocenter on this or adjacent frequencies; no dash, but if it were on 329 it would be in Whitehorse YT. Possibly a mixture of: PI in Peoria IL, and SJ in San Angelo TX: .--. .. and ... .--- (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0347 UT February 12 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
