Glenn Hauser logs November 10-11, 2019  View Printable Version
Monday, November 11 2019

Logs
** ARGENTINA [non]. 6060, UT Monday Nov 11 at 0136, something in
Spanish but not // 5040v RHC; yes, it`s RAE Spanish relay via WRMI
with its multi-lingual ID at 0138, despite its M-F only schedule, so I
guess playing back the Friday edition containing the DX program (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6165, UT Mon Nov 11 at 0140, RHC English is not on yet here,
but 6000 is at Item 1 in Arnie`s `DXers Unlimited`, suptorted.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST) see also ARGENTINA [non]

** CUBA. 9640.006, Nov 11 at 1334, RHC S9+10/20 with humbuzz and
slightly off frequency. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 9335, Nov 11 at 1327, 1 kHz tone; 1328 Yankee Doodle,
1329 VOA sign-on from ``Washington DC``, JBA for a Cambodian hour via
Tinang, PHILIPPINES (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2007 monitoring: since last Sunday
WOR was reported to have aired partially on IRRS, 7290 via Romania,
until 2000, I`m checking this week Nov 10 via UTwente SDR: NO, from
1940 music; 1951 starts `Between the Lines`, which is going to get cut
off after no more than 9 minutes. Obviously there is no point in
trying to predict when bits of WOR will appear on this transmission,
besides the committed full airing Mondays at 1900 (or 1859? from last
week). Otherwise IRRS programming is rather random as on continuous
webcast, much of it undefined on the program schedule. More: below

Confirmed Nov 10 after 2130 on WRMI 7780, poor S4-S7.

Also confirmed UT Monday Nov 11 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, good via
UTwente; had been // 9395 but something else now direct, mentions Xmas
already, so the Countdown 2 Xmas show? Not on sked.

Also confirmed UT Monday Nov 11 at 0230 on WRMI 7780, fair S9-S6.
Maybe the 9395 // has shifted an hour later? NO, at 0229 the usual
wrong `Son-Power` ID, into Afro/Indo percussive World Music. This is
where R. Tirana should now appear the others days of week, and I hope
WOR can be restored to fill this gap, as our only airing on 9395 and
NNW antenna.

Confirmed UT Monday Nov 11 starting at 0402 on Area 51 webcast; S9-S8
on WBCQ 5129.98 check just in time at 0429.

Also confirmed UT Monday Nov 11 at 0430 on WRMI 9955, S9+20/30! Other
weeks has been very poor to inaudible; you never know how the late MUF
will hold up. Also good audio this time on the webcast.

Confirmed Monday Nov 11 joined-in-progress (JIP) at 1900.5 on IRRS
7290 via ROMANIA, as I am going from Alaska to Argentina, which
happens at 1.6 minutes into the program, so as I calculated last week,
this playback is starting a bit before 1859! Trouble is, 7290
transmission does not bring it up that early, altho the carrier came
on at *1857.5 as heard via UTwente SDR, almost muscling aside the ACI
from CRI if bandwidth be narrowed. There was no modulation before WOR
JIP, no Triumphal March from Aïda, no sign-on, no ID. WOR was planned
to start at 1902 after some news, or maybe 1901.5 matching the
sesquiminute offset when official start was 1815. Next:

0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. (7490), Sun Nov 10 after 2300, I`m ready for `Uncle Bill`s
Melting Pot` on WBCQ webcast --- it`s running, but silent. I don`t
check 7490 itself, assuming it too be missing. Better luck if for the
third week he gets a filler repeat 25 hours later, UT Tue at 0000. But
the webcast comes to life at 2355 with IS & ID loop; 0000 UT Monday
Nov 11 into: `Radio TImTron Worldwide`! But that`s the show scheduled
on Area 51 and its webcast. He says the date is Nov 10 [belch], so
it`s a different one than yesterday at the same time; mostly music.

Then I compare the 7490 and 5130 webcasts, and find they are *both*
with TT, but a good many seconds apart. Somehow A51 stream has got
onto the 7490 stream! So we are also missing `Le Show`; at 0014 I
check 7490 itself and find it *is* running there as usual, as UBMP
probably did an hour earlier without the webcast backup.

At 0141 I check again for `Encore` classical music which now starts a
UT hour later at 0100 Monday, but the webcast is still from A51.
Encore *is* playing on 7490.072v, fair S9/+10 at first but fading down
by 0152 final announcement which I can`t copy. Brice always wraps up
early allowing last piece to ``play out``, but it`s likely to be cut
off when the hour be up (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 6060, Nov 11 at 0015, SMTV on WRMI is *still* double-audio
feed 4 seconds apart; no RHC back on 6060 yet. And *still* Nov 11 at
about 1320 when the frequency is 7570; citing animal attributes
alfabetically, koalas, llamas, lobsters, mice ---.

15770, Nov 11 at 1833, SMTV via WRMI *still* with two programs mixing
at once, but I can no longer match them 4, or any, seconds apart
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 6115, Nov 11 at 0141, WWCR-1 with far-right talk, S9+30 with
squeal as always on this transmitter. Too bad they don`t put all that
signal to better use (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, Monday Nov 11 at 1839, zero signal from KVOH leaving
absolutely nothing on 16m except the unIDs on 17783.78 and 17850,
qq.vv. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, November 11 at
1259-1308 UT as I am awake around local sunrise, 1305: 774-NW,
702-WSW, 612-WSW, 747-NW, 828-NW, 882-WSW, 972-NW, 1242-NW,
1503-both?, 1566-NW --- i.e. the usual suspects from Au/NZ and
Japan/Korea S. Most of these were at the very margin of inaudibility
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4102+, Nov 11 at 1310, JBA ``W`` and other Morse CW
letters or number, from that Weather beacon somewhere in the desert
SW. Still no sign of ``A`` beacon on 2097.3 which used to come in
stronger every dekasecond (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 17783.78-USB approx., Mon Nov 11 at 1838, weak 2-way in
Spanish, ``cambio``, INTRUDERS but no problem from or to 17775 KVOH,
since it`s absent again. Surely not still Simi-fiery around there?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 17850, Nov 11 at 1840, JBA carrier, presumed 3 x 5950
WRMI harmonic; with sporadic E boost since WRMI Radio Africa 21525 is
steady S9+10 with gospel huxter in English; rather than usual JBA
carrier or not at all on 13m. Since KVOH is AWOL, 17850 is the OSOB
and SSOB! Discounting the USB intruders on 17783.78 (Glenn Hauser, OK,

Glenn Hauser logs November 9-10, 2019  View Printable Version
Sunday, November 10 2019

Logs
** CUBA. 9630-9650, Nov 9 at 2301, RHC ID amid its 22-24 UT Spanish
newsmagazine, buzzfield over this range surrounding and out of 9640.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6165, Nov 10 at 0733, only RHC left, Spanish song but
presumably English service; so what will become of Esperanto now
rescheduled to 0800 UT Sundays on one 49mb frequency? Unfortunately, I
am still awake at 0801, when 6165 and all others are off. Something`s
always wrong at RHC.

However, wide-awake in Germany, Wolfgang Bueschel also monitored:
``Something's always wrong at RHC, on Sunday Nov 10th. In 0750-0800 UT
slot only a single RHC English transmission noted on 6165even, not
6000 6060, nor 6100 kHz outlet on air - 0750 UT S=9+10dB in remote SDR
at Edmonton, Alb-CAN. 6165 kHz was on duty til 0800:10 final piano
music theme, 0800:56 UT Bauta TX OFF switch.

When traced the 49 mb then, noted a short appearance on air, and an
empty carrier on 6100even little stronger S=9+20dB - than 6165,
seemingly RHC Bauta as empty carrier on air at single minute duration,
the technician at Bauta were real 0801:42 to 0802.43 ON AIR
on 6100 kHz in 49 mb positively; BOT NOT ON AIR RHC Bauta in Esperanto
special - nothing today on a single fq 6100 kHz``

Note: gh has removed redundant ``kHz`` after every frequency and
``UT`` after every time, just as wb inserts them into my reports to
make them explicit yet redundant (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** IRELAND. 4651-USB, Nov 10 at 0718, Shanwick Radio with notice to
some flight about severe turbulence; some CODAR swish QRM. This is a
long-standing joint venture with Prestwick AP, Scotland near Glasgow,
the one scandalized by connexions with Trump`s failing golf course.
EiBi shows the transmitter site is Shannon (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** NEW ZEALAND. 11725, Nov 10 at 0740, RNZI the SSOB and virtually the
OSOB during Sunday evening classic rock show, playing `Nights in White
Satin` by Moody Blues, with `I Love You`` refrain over and over, a
great tune keeping me awake a little longer; DJ announcement, and
0745, I don`t know, another love-song from `J.C. Super-Star` (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6933-USB, Sunday Nov 10 at 1414, finally a pirate
outside early evening prime-time. Hard rock music with screams at
S7-S8. 1418 DJ ID as ``Energy Radio, ERG``, offers QSL cards; fragment
of song with intelligible lyric, ``You`re gonna die``; 1419 a bit of
the screamsong again and cutoff 1420*. More detailed logs here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,60116.0.html
and on same board recently more logs of it on 6950, 6790, even 9417,
Please QSL (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. 930, Nov 10 at 1329 UT, WKY, OKC, with double audio!
Closing pubaffs show `Sunday Morning Magazine` about elexions in OK,
when to register for primary, etc.; and ID for WWLS 98.1 The Sports
Animal which is its normal programming source. No one paying attention
at station to suppress TSA at least during this breakaway! (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 13, Nov 10 at 0128 UT, closing credits of excellent
OETA program `Gallery` flash ``Copywrite XXXX``, too quick to catch
the year let alone tape or photo it, but I am sure of how the Oklahoma
*Educational* TV Authority spelt Copyright. N.B., Sagebrush Bob! There
will be plenty more chances to see it about 27-28 minutes after these
Central start times = UT minus 6; and maybe even on demand:

(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 5850, Nov 10 at 0722, Brother Scare via WRMI
remarking that He is ``confined to the house``, but is allowed to talk
on the radio and is wearing a wireless mike so He can walk around. Not
the first time I have run across this. So is He ``confined`` as in
house-arrest, maybe with an ankle monitor to keep Him away from the
girls? Or confined due to disability? Allan Weiner must know, having
visited Him recently. There has got to be a public document about His
legal status somewhere, if anyone could uncover it (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U K [non]. 6150, Nov 9 at 2241, S4-S8 news magazine in American
English, mentions Bloomberg, dangers of robots taking over jobs even
in the Press, 2244 another topic; 2254 about the Theremin. What`s
this, CRI? Before hourtop, Marco Werman closing `The World` joint
produxion of WBUR, PRI, and BBCWS, and indeed this is BBCWS on a
previously unknown transmission, from where? Unusual to get a readable
signal from them since they blew away their intentional North American
SW audience years ago. HFCC shows it is via USAGM Tinang, PHILIPPINES!
I would never have guessed this were the site. 250 kW at 200 degrees
away from here for CIRAF 51W and 54, i.e. Indonesia and Malaysia, at
2200-2300 only. Something new? There is one more English hour at
2300-2400 on 11825 and three other Tinang relays in Burmese, Korean.

We get `The World` on KOSU M-F at 20-21 UT; also heard it on CBW 990
in the 06-07 hour. I once tried to convince WRMI to pick it up in
penance for all crap from Walterboro paying the bills. But we`ll have
to do with BBCWS.

When all is it scheduled there? I`ve avoided trying to pin down any
programming on BBCWS since there have been so many different SW
streams, zero for us. But I try, for Monday Nov 11 -- no such program
in the 22-23 hour or anywhen by that title! The specific time I heard
it, does lead to `Boston Calling` with the robot topic for Nov 9, so
that`s how it`s repackaged on BBCWS:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3csy5vb
Clearly it`s only once a week for 27 minutes at 2232 UT Saturdays, one
earlier airing at 0432, and repeated at 0432 UT Sunday. Despite its
original title, BBCWS diminishes it as an American POV de Boston.

But there are a lot of clips, podcasts, a look at Marco and his bio:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p00y7fqz
So the entire hour 5X a week would still be needed via WRMI (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7457-USB, Nov 10 at 1427, AF MARS net, two stations saying
``no traffic; net is now free; out``. Does free mean open for random
QSOs, or finished? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 9619.9 approx., Nov 9 at 2256, het with weaker 9620.0,
one at least in Chinese; 2300 timesignal and one goes off, the other
by 2301*. VOA Chinese via Tinang, PHILIPPINES scheduled in the 22 hour
only, so the CNR1 jammer presumably a bit off-frequency to boot (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 7545, Nov 10 at 1424, non-Standard Chinese translating brief
items in English mentioning Baltic States, Gorbachov, atop weaker
audio, i.e. VOA Cantonese via Tinang, PHILIPPINES and jammed at
1300-1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK,, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2007 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday November
11 at 0426, 11 minutes into on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, so started circa
nominal 0415. Readable but marred by local high noise level between
1.7 and 2.4 MHz, and another narrow peak at 2.68 MHz, but fortunately
no problem higher. (I dread the Holiday Season with Xmas lighting all
over, altho 2 or 3 neighbors run Xmassy lighting yearound.) Next:

1945vUT Sunday IRRS 7290 Romania to WNW, fragment??
2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE
0130 UT Monday WRMI 9395 to NNW 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5950, Nov 10 at 0727, SMTV via WRMI, and 4 seconds later the
same SMTV via WRMI, i.e. double audio feed, one of them slightly
softer than the other, ruining their own programming, partly in
English.

15770, Nov 10 at 1431 & 1548 chex, SMTV now on this WRMI, *still* with
double audio. Clearly nohuman at SMTV HQ nor WRMI is paying attention
to what is going out, so why should we? I wonder how this happen, Bob?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 3215, Nov 9 at 2312, WWRB is already on this early for
Saturday evening, S9+20 and OK modulation! with what else, a gospel
huxter (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sunday Nov 10, I`ve had WTWW-2 on a receiver in the
background for an hour or more of hamtalk, when finally at 0119 I
first detect some organ music, so `Theater Organ in the Ozarx` has
started after 7 pm local, not 8 pm as on the website. I bring up
$ tereo webcast of familiar tunes, finally `White Xmas`, abruptly
ending at 0143, no show outro, cut to ID and immediately back to rock
music, `The Wanderer`, which would have been neat to hear on the organ
too (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 720, Nov 10 at 1335 UT, TexMexmx, break for super-hype voice
actor to proclaim, ``--- 104.1 y 720 AM, la estación de la raza``.
Null/separable from WGN, but soon outfading, is KSAH Universal City
(San Antonio) TX. NRC AM Log says the slogan is ``Norteña 104.1``
which is not a mere translator (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1480, Sunday Nov 10 at 1339 UT, surprised to hear the tones
of Jim Bohannon in the light of day, guest author who is a
``Bible-believing Christian``. This is certainly my semi-local KQAM
Wichita KS, atop remnant of Vietnamese KNGO The Metroplex making a
slow SAH. But KQAM is not a JIMBO affiliate per:
http://www.jimbohannonshow.com/station-finder/
rather 3 other 1480s all at normal nighttimes or later repeats
pre-sunrise. But what do they know? Jimbo is among the Big Talkers at:
http://stecklinecommunications.com/kqam/
Sundays at 12-14 UT; and weeknights live at 03-06 UT (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

I think fits in a 1550 mention, 1400 Fox ``news``. Is KAPE now on 5 kW
direxional day power. Lucky MO has two others 1550s. From ENE, I`m
really trying to null it and hear wanted KMAD, Madill on the south
side of OK, often silent but lately reported active (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. Date for this omitted by mistake: it was November 4:
TA conditions must be VG, as earlier Mark Connelly in MA
reported Syria ``inbooming`` (where did he get that?) on 783 kHz. Too
late for that now, but at 0550-0600 I decide to perform a JBA MW
carrier search on the R-75 with E/W longwire, and find plenty of them:
531, 549, 558(2), 567, 585(2), 595.9, 621, 639, 684, 693(2), 711, 729,
738, 747, 756, 774(2: See SPAIN), 801, 837, 882, 909, 936(2), 954, 963
(both sides of my 960 local), 999, 1053, 1062, 1089, 1125(2), 1134,
1215, 1305, 1566 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1110, Nov 10 at 0753 UT, KFAB Omaha in C2CAM normally
owns this clear channel at night, but now has some musical QRM with
SAH, hard to DF with KFAB nulled. Of course, the only other 50 kW at
night 1110 station is WBT Charlotte NC, but it`s news/talk too; with
deep nulls toward each other. Suspect it`s one of the numerous
daytimers in between running at night. Or maybe KRDC Pasadena CA, all
20 kW supposedly WSW into the Pacific but C&W/Disney format (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6780-CW, Nov 10 at 1410, beeps like timesignals exactly
one second apart, except a prolonged one every 23 seconds, pause and
resuming 4 seconds later, over and over; not matching any real
timesignal. Very strange (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7850-USB, Nov 10 at 1422, VP 2-way in Spanish. CHU
better hurry up and reclaim its frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
