Glenn Hauser logs November 22-23, 2019  View Printable Version

Logs
** ALBANIA [non]. 15770, Fri Nov 22 at 2030, good signal on caradio,
Radio Tirana relay via WRMI is *FINALLY* fixed. Good to hear Klara
again opening after IS, but she never mentions being on SW anymore,
just webcast address, since this relay was arranged by myself and
other RT fans, without any help from management, not even assuring the
stations get the right file. Radio360.eu must have reset its timer to
grasp the 6-daily English semihour at the correct time for forwarding
on to German and US SW stations. Almost a month after the time-change
in Europe. One hopes this SNAFU can be forestalled in future.

After news, press review including statistics of road accidents; 2045
folk music, never IDed nor explained; 2048 ID and `Profile` of Petro
Marko (sp?), writer born 25/11/1913; 2053 two more nice but unID
Albanian songs, no further announcements or sign-off; 2058.5 IS plays
for a minute, 2059.5 WRMI ID in Spanish by Jaime Báguena, 2100 cut to
a few words of other Spanish as if some such program intended, but
right away cut again to Brother HyStairical. Automation is
misaligned.

9395, UT Sat Nov 23 at 0132, this WRMI is in Oldies, not Tirana;
recheck 0230, *now* the other RT relay is also restored at S9/+10, no
doubt repeating the one 6 hours ago (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11540, Nov 23 at 1609, one station at S9-S7 in
talk, unsounds Turkish so I guess Kurdish from Denge Welat. The radio
war with Turkey`s ``Radio Erdogan`` jamming may have abated. But
language alone is not sufficient to differentiate, as Rumen Pankov
repeatedly pointed out previously, D.K. would include long segments in
Turkish, not just Kurdish. Presumably via FRANCE at this hour rather
than Pridnestrovye (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 684, Nov 23 at 0537, best TA carrier here after first
checking weaker 774; and enough for some audio in Castilian. Quick
scan of the entire band at 9-kHz intervals finds nothing comparable,
nothing else breaking thru with modulation. 684 is a single RNE 200 kW
transmitter in Sevilla; and no other 684s in W Europe (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Sat Nov 23 at 1519, JBA carrier from so-called N
American service of REE which gets absorbed across the daypath
Atlantic; while 12030 aimed oppositeward to ME is doing well in
excited stupid-ballgame coverage; not `Amigos de la Onda Corta` as
1500 Saturday was one of the contradictory times listed for revived DX
program.

Rechecking all frequencies at 1610-1612 Nov 23: 9690 is now
propagating poorly at S3-S5 in music, NOT // the others! all // in
SBG: 11685 P-F S3-S5 vs 11687.5 RTTY; 11940 better and 12030 best.
Normally would expect 11940 to SAm to match 9690 to NAm when there is
separate programming on the Af/ME frequencies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2009 monitoring: confirmed first
SWBC, Friday November 22 at 2300 on WRMI 9955 --- and exactly like the
last two weeks, starts off with heavy Cuban jamming, but it gradually
abates and is gone by 2310 except for a few beeps. This must be its
standard scheduled procedure, strangely enough.

Also confirmed UT Saturday November 23 at 0130 on WRMIs: checking 5010
first, Biblebot interrupted at 0129.5 for BB ID at S9/+10 and then
WOR. 5850 also at S9+20 but sounds much louder. 7780 only S9-S7. Then
I compare them on two radios: 5010 & 5850 are synchronized, but 1
second behind 7780 apparently in playouts from separate Systems.

Next airing is 1300 Saturday on WRMI 15770. Awake, I listen from 1320
to 1329 to the JBA carrier hoping for even a momentary surge enough to
recognize me but it never does; seems to be continuous talk by someone
such as myself. 15770 is S4-S5 vs ambient band noise level of S3-S4.

** U S A. 9330.00, Nov 22 at 2134, World`s Last Chance [sic] via
WBCQ-6 with ``daily mailbag``, questions always about their wacko
theology. So 9330 has indeed been turned over to WLC again, almost
only.

7490.1v, UT Sat Nov 23 at 0059, FKB gospel huxter via phoneline again
concludes claiming also to be later on ``9625`` from WINB, which he
must have never tried to verify or find it really on 9265V. Some
unexplained noise for a bit as WBCQ is switching sources to FLA.

0101 `AAAWWW` starts with WTO, and AW opens mentioning this time he is
also on 9330, where we easily continue listening off & on amid his
repeated ever-Trump screeds. Late at 0116, first call interrupting
from annoying ``wild Freddie`` who is getting this at 50 over 9. 0118
observes a 15-20 second delay between the two frequencies as running
thru computers; I now have 9330 at only S9+20/30 and time its delay
after fair 7490v as 32 seconds.

AW says they now have got most bugs out of the S-S, but it`s very
complex involving electronic, hydraulic and pneumatic systems all of
which have to funxion properly together. AW believes whatever Trump
says, and I tune out at 0126. 0153 I`m back listening to 7490 stream
as he says testing will finish next Wednesday on a noon-to-midnight
sked (17-05 UT), and officially on Thanksgiving Thursday turn it over
to WLC Radio only, 24/7. New sked will be on WBCQ and WLC websites ---
we wonder if they will finally be able to ascend beyond 9330 when
propagationally proper. Both HFCC and WLC web skeds have always been
imaginary, or shall we say, projexions. At 0159 trying to squeeze in
e-mail and prayers, tells master control in Montecello not to cut him
off --- but they do at 0200 sharp as Hal Turner must not be delayed.

Here`s John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's show started I know not when
on a very poor 7490. Couple of minutes in heard that they were also
broadcasting on 9330 so retuned the radio. Nice clear signal there.
Allan says testing on the superstation will end next Wednesday and WLC
will take over starting on Thanksgiving day. Some Trump talk and first
phone call at 0115 from Freddie who says he has 9330 at 50 over. Allan
tells him that he thinks they have most of the bugs worked out of the
transmitter now. Freddie off the phone and back to impeachment talk
and then utopia talk. Allan did say that they would be testing every
day from noon till midnight local time. Phone call from Tony Straka at
0155 with more talk of signal strength of 9330. Reading of emails at
0158 and program was cut off at 0200. John, mid-North Indiana.``

9330 must have resumed WLC; at spot chex continuing very strong as MUF
is cooperative this night unlike others; still a few minutes before
0500, but then gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 17775, Sat Nov 23 at 1610, JBA carrier, presumably KVOH
attempting the first broadcast of Wavescan (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

Logs
** BOLIVIA [non]. Art Delibert replies to my last report:

``Glenn -- Regarding your report on the JBA on 6134.819 which you
assume is Radio Santa Cruz, Bolivia, I have found lately that Radio
Aparecida, Brazil, is sometimes on 6135.12 and sometimes on 6134.83.
Santa Cruz, when it's on, is on 6134.88. On 11/19, I had a very good
signal on 6134.83 from 0200, which was clearly in Portuguese. I went
to Radio Aparecida's website and listened in; it was the same
programming that I was hearing on 6134.83, except 15 seconds behind.
Regards, Art Delibert, North Bethesda, MD, Ten Tec RX-340; SAL-12
antenna`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. Re my log on 15155 of AWR, Peter W Hansen replies:

``Hi Glenn, This broadcast from AWR is from Madagascar Sun - Fri; and
from Trincomalee on Saturdays as per HFCC AWR file & the AWR web site.
The Saturday broadcast has been best heard in Brazil, and the Sun-Fri
has been best heard in South Africa and Bonaire.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

I appreciate such correxions when necessary. And another:

** OKLAHOMA. Enid Earthquake follow-up: as usually happens, USGS
revised its earliest info, originally 4.0 and 15 km east. Now:

``3.6 magnitude, 15 km ESE of Enid, Oklahoma, 2019-11-22 05:44:36
(UTC), 8.8 km deep``

However, this remains greater than any of the other North American
region quaxe of the last 24 hours, multiples around PR and DR, CA and
NV. We Okies can remain proud.

I must also revise my `certain` timing of the shock arrival at our
place in Enid to: 0544:46 UT, i.e. 10 seconds later as would be
expected this far from the epicenter.

USGS adds an aftershock, which we did not feel: ``2.5 mag., 15 km E of
Enid, Oklahoma, 2019-11-22 06:14:19 (UTC), 8.8 km deep.`` (Glenn
Hauser, Enid,, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 12035, Fri Nov 22 at 1340, VOT is S9-S6 ending news, then
Turkish and foreign press reviews; 1344 `Today in History` a few items
including JFK* 1963y; multilingual ID reel which must appear at least
once in every broadcast. Meanwhile Turkish service is in well with
music on 15350; after 1400 on 11815 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** VATICAN. 13830, Nov 22 at 1529, repeating orchestral IS of a few
notes, vaguely familiar, S9-S7; 1530 ``Laudetur Iesus Christus`` a
dead giveaway it`s VR, and into Amharic as scheduled direct from SMG
at 139 degrees; to be followed at 1600 by Swahili, rotated another 11
degrees clockwise. VR continues to serve well non-targets. Of course,
the IS is a version I had not noticed before of the old ``Christus
Vincit``, which is no longer mentioned by name or tune in the WRTH of
2019 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11802-USB, Nov 22 at 1404, 2-way in colloquial Spanish
INTRUDERS, immediately with expletives such as ``coño`` and ``puta``
and whistling (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

Logs
** ALBANIA [non]. 15770, Nov 21 at 2048, still folk music fill instead
of Radio Tirana programming via WRMI at 2030. Meanwhile we are getting
to the bottom of what`s gone wrong: (gh)

``[WOR] Albania - Radio Tirana Live Stream --- Gday Glenn and all on
wor@groups.io --- I have had some success with hearing Radio Tirana
directly from their website, today approx 0915 UT with local pop
music, different to the current fare we’d be getting via WRMI (which
is the collection of Albanian folk music, followed by the Albanian
national anthem Hymni I Flamurit “song of the flag”).

Without my computer open, I can’t source the exact IP address for the
stream at present but I will get it to everyone ASAP.

I have always suspected that WRMI get their daily recordings of RT
from radio360.eu and have been assuming (without researching further)
that the German third-party podcasts have the timer set and either
haven’t changed it yet or they’re receiving the same stuff day after
day from RT live stream.

Might be time to email Klara and see if she’s still working? It’s not
holiday time in Albania (however Independence Day is Nov 28). Regards,
(Brian Powell (VK2FBAJ), Southern Suburbs of Sydney, Australia, Sent
from my iPhone, Nov 21, WOR iog via WORLD OF RADIO 2009, DXLD)``

``Radio360.eu and WRMI forgot the DST change and therefore, they
continue recording the livestream of "Radio Tirana Internacional
(RTI)" at 1600-1630 UT.
http://149.202.220.47:8888/rti.m3u

1600-1630 UT was 18.00-18.30 CEST, so they recorded the English
program during summer. Now during winter, they should have shifted
their recording time to 1700-1730 UT which is 18.00-18.30 CET, but
they forgot to do so.

By the way: It's the same Albanian folk music every day, as it
represents the last 30 of an old 90 minute program in Albanian
language which is not updated any more. Only the foreign language
programs on this stream are updated daily, from Monday to Saturday.

The reason for not updating the Albanian language program is simple:
There is a new 24-hour channel for the Albanian diaspora named "Radio
Tirana 3":
http://149.202.220.47:8888/radiotirana3.m3u

Here is a schedule of all broadcasts of the external service of Radio
Tirana:
http://ab27.bplaced.net/tirana.pdf
73, (Alexander Busneag, Germany, WOR iog via WORLD OF RADIO 2009, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)``

I have forwarded this info to Jeff White and at his suggestion also to
Christian Milling of shortwaveservice.de so maybe by next week they
can get this straightened out.

UT Friday November 22 I am checking again: 9395, WRMI at 0146 is JBA
with talk but unseems Radio Tirana as shown on one version of
schedule. By 0228, 9395 has recovered to S9! rockmusic, on Oldies
stream with its one spot commercial for some airline, but cut off at
0230 sharp to join the same folk music fill inhabiting the Radio
Tirana audiofile (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENNG DIGEST)

** AUSTRALIA. 9765, Thu Nov 21 at 1551, sounds like an hymn, S3-S5
with flutter. It`s RBA at 1530-1600 in Korean, except Mon & Fri the
second half in English, per Aoki/NDXC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** BOLIVIA. 6134.819, Nov 21 at 0753, JBA signal vs bonker on the plus
side; presumed Radio Santa Cruz on well-known split frequency; used to
be a regular, best Bolivian in the evenings, but seems they sign off
(and on) rather early: Mark Taylor, WI in the NASWA Flashsheet reports
them Nov 12 at 2300, but off the air shortly after 2426 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2009, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 6125, Nov 21 at 0755, Cuban pulse jamming vs nothing, as
Radio Martí finishes its newest frequency at 0400. Bodes ill for other
6125s such as Turkey to us right from 0400 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST) But see TURKEY

** CUBA. 5039.997, Nov 22 at 0109, RHC almost on-frequency but
suptorted, squealing in Kriyol, and with spurblobs approx. 3-4 kHz
above and below. At 0149 check it`s in Arabic! absurdly at 0130, as
that still substitutes for French, also at other times. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** ERITREA. 7140 & 7180, Nov 22 at 0340, equal continuous JBA AM
carriers intruding in the hamband, presumed the two VOBME programs at
peak morning propagation time (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** KOREA SOUTH [non]. 6045, Nov 21 at 0756, KBS World Radio ending its
Korean hour via Woofferton, but with noise jamming from Korea North
like on 6015; this late/early, E Asia is already propagating here too.
NK is not trying to jam KBS in this case; rather Voice of Freedom
clandestine directly from the South; inadvertently double-birding
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MADAGASCAR. 15155, Nov 21 at 1836 YL in English with heavy accent
about meningitis, and anti-smoking advice, at first wondering if SMTV
but not // 15770; instead the other station obsessed with health
(could be worse), AWR as scheduled this semihour, 250 kW, 320 degrees
from Talata also USward, S9+10/20, making it and Cuba 15140 the SSOBs
and indeed only significant signals on 19m; 1838 ``stay healthy and
God bless``, bit of music and AWR contact address in Kenya.

Strangely, HFCC shows same 1830-1900 transmission is also registered
as 250 kW, 255 degrees from Trincomalee, Sri Lanka, but certainly not
this time. Backup/alternative, I guess.

13670, Nov 21 at 1840, the other Madagascan, Mahajanga with African
Pathways Radio on MWV is also inbooming at S9+10/20, far beyond its
target area (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA. Earthquake! A while since we have felt and seen definite
shaking in Enid. For just a few seconds at 0544:10 UT November 22, as
I am concluding this report. In a few minutes, USGS displays details:

``4.0 magnitude! 15 km E of Enid, Oklahoma, 2019-11-22 05:44:36 (UTC),
3.9 km deep`` --- well I am certain of the time 26 seconds earlier per
my watch corrected by WWV. A rather big one (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 6125, Nov 22 at 0419, VOT belting out a Turkish song; 0420
`Did You Know That?`; fair S9 with choppy fading and hard to copy but
no Cuban jamming overrun audible now (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U K [non]. 5845, Nov 21 at 1556, English lesson for Koreans, S9/S7
and the SSOB this late. It`s BBC`s new relay via USAGM Tinang,
PHILIPPINES, at 1530-1830, on the good old 21-degree azimuth which
carries on well beyond North Korea into North America (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 13565-CW, Nov 21 at 1544, K6FRC beacon is JBA as it often
shows up around sunrise in Patterson CA, but not later (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 15580, Nov 21 at 1832, VOA sports program via
BOTSWANA; announcer gets carried away like a mini-Blalock, so at first
I wondered if a gospel huxter had overtaken the frequency (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2009 contents: Alaska, Albania non, Armenia,
Bolivia, Bulgaria, Canada, Cuba, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Iran and

** U S A. 9330.00, Nov 21 from before 1930, WBCQ-6 has resumed World`s
Last Chance Radio programming as first noted by Ivo Ivanov and Richard
Langley. On afternoons/evenings of Nov 17-18-19-20 this had carried a
variety of other `test` programming. UT Nov 22 at 0055, still VG with
WLC. Unlike some evenings, MUF has not plunged and still going 0335 at
S9+40/50. We`ll see if they can keep it going this time with nothing
but WLC, supposedly 24 hours alternating English and Arabic at various
azimuths on rotatable 9330 antenna only (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

Logs
** ALBANIA [non]. 9395, Nov 21 at 0257 WRMI with VP music, 0259
chirping, no NA, no Radio Tirana IS, 0259.5 ``Everglades`` ID. I was
expecting the second RT relay of the day to be at 0230, as on the WRMI
*frequency* schedule for 9395; but on the *program* schedule below,
System G is shown with Oldies at 9:30 pm ET on 9395 (if also applying
from the line above for RAE at 9:00 pm). R Tirana remains displayed on
System H 9395 at 0130 UT Mon/Tue/Wed/Fri/Sat, bumped by `This is a
Music Show` on UT Thu at 0130-0230. I need to monitor other days
whether RT (or its own music fill) really be on at 0130 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 5960.0, Nov 20 at 2333, VOT English to North America is
axually on today, music but VP, undermodulated; and furthermore, off
by 2355 recheck instead of bleibing for German, audiblizing the 5960-
JBA carrier from East Turkistan, land of Uyghur brainwashing by the
ChiCom (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2008 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday November
20 from 2200:21 on WBCQ 7490.1v but JBA --- and 9330 has been on
testing since at least 1907, so I check it too --- and here`s WORLD OF
RADIO! But starting about 30 seconds later circa 2200:50, VG about
S9+40 tnx to the 500 kW transmitter, finally, but not expected to
recur.

Also confirmed UT Thu Nov 21 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, fair S9/+10.

Next edition WOR 2009 expected to première Friday Nov 22 at 2300 on
WRMI 9955; UT Sat Nov 23 at 0130 on WRMIs 5010, 5850, 7780 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 9330.00, Nov 20 at 1907, WBCQ-6 is already on with big 500
kW signal, S9+30 with folk music, ``Good Morning, America``; 2200:50
with WORLD OF RADIO, finally getting a chance on the SuperStation as
now it`s simulcasting whatever be on 7490; see separate WOR report.

9330 not checked again until 2355 when it`s hitting S9+50! with rock
music; is it // 7490+v now? JBA too weak to tell. 2356 quick Japanese
announcement, and novelty C&W song ``Marijuana, the Devil`s Flower``.
2359.5 it`s `Radio TimTron WorldWide` at half-way mark, another hour
to come ``on the big signal`` --- so maybe he`s live as a benefit of
getting this thing operational again. And not scheduled now on 7490.

At 0002 Nov 21 however, suddenly dead air, canned ID, start to play
sign-off theme, but 0003 various tone tests, and back to music. Seems
to be mostly novelty tunes for the rest of the hour, including until
0037 ``Sitting on My Face``. By 0058 has faded to only S9, running
past 0101 with more novelty music, off-key singing; and TT closes with
credit to FARTS. By 0102 has joined another program, M&W talkshow
about the Epstein suicide ``down there`` --- yes, it must be `Just
Right` which originates in Ontario and is scheduled 0000-0130 on 7490
which is still JBA preventing definite match. Only last third here.
Mainly it`s two guys but the woman must be Danielle Metz who has her
own related show. See
https://www.justrightmedia.org/blog/about

9330 not checked again until 0256 UT Thu Nov 21, now in another talk
show, about Ukraine; not // 7490 which is more audible, or rather it
is // but not synchronized with 9330 as usual running about 30 seconds
behind in convoluted hookup, so it`s Hal Turner who on UT Thu only,
gets two hours on 7490; and also on WRMI 9455, which I quickly check
at 0300 to hear him ID for WBCQ (only!). Right back to 9330, which is
also running somewhat behind 9455. At 0301 he starts to play a version
of the Star Spangled Banner, OK at first but then morphs into a
hard-rock version to a different tune -- a Hal Turner monstrosity, I
suppose.

All these WBCQ shows on 9330 must be classified only as tests, not to
recur; so where`s World`s Last Chance? No hurry! WBCQ websked alleges
WLC is daily 2030-0300, surely an approximation, and nothing else on
9330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
