** ALGERIA [non]. 7295, May 20 at 0548, S9+10/20, RTA in unQur`an Arabic, and *no* self-QRM beepery via FRANCE; whenever logging this, please note whether there is or is not that anomaly.
Another anomaly noted by Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria: ``FRANCE NO SIGNAL of Telediffusion d'Algerie via TDF Issoudun, May 20. 0400-0459 on 6050 ISS 500 kW / 162 deg to CEAf open carrier plus tx TWEET -- 73! Ivo Ivanov`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) What means TWEET in this context? ** CHINA. CNR1 jamming survey May 19 at 1354-1400*: 13070, S9/+10 13030, S9/+10 but sounds slightly weaker 12880, S5-S9 12870, S7-S9 12820, S7-S9 12500, S7-S9 12190, JBA then by 1358 I tune upward from where I had started downward: 13160, VP; and further downward: 10820, VP 10870, stronger than 10820 By now it`s 1400 as I tune above 11000 to hear nothing, and rechecking the above frequencies, they are *all* off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15370, May 19 at 2005, RHC S9, but JBM in Brazuguese; more mod on distorted 15140 in French. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15730, May 19 at 2236, S8-S9, RHC is JBM and suptorted --- so bad that I can`t be 100% sure whether it`s Kriyol or Brazuguese. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13820, May 20 at 1404, noise jamming still here despite this being a B-season-only RM frequency, on 13605 instead during A-seasons. Something`s always incompetent at the DentroCuban Jamming Command (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13740, May 20 at 1404, S9+20/30 of dead air from RHC, after presumed nominal finish circa 1400, while weaker S9+10/20 13700 is still musically modulating; but without any spurblobs. I do have JBA carriers on 13660 and even weaker 13780 as probably leapfrog mixing products, except by 1414, 13740 is off and 13660 is still there, which now could be only BBC Somali via UAE even tho it`s not significantly off-frequency. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ITALY [and non]. 7290, May 20 at 1759, I`m checking IRRS via secret unknown site, via UTwente Holland SDR, whether today there be any breakups in modulation feed like there were on Monday during WORLD OF RADIO. ``Aïda`` theme is already playing, VG signal and not too much ACI either, 1800 IRRS sign-on from ``Milano`` without any frequency or mode details, right into `Feature Story News`, not just headlines but 5 minutes` worth leading with Pompeo vs China; 1805 into `News in Brief from the United Nations`, which also seems current; 1809 to music, folk/rock ballad in English followed by a song in Chinese(?). 1819 starts `Astronomy Cast`, W&M informally chatting, first 4 minutes about how they are coping with COVID-19, then not about astronomy but satellite repair in orbit and other space travel, not the same thing. So far so good, no interruptions, until 1845 dumps off to dead air except for the ute-warble background and ACI splat presumably from 7280 VOV German as there is nothing on first-adjacents 7285 or 7295. I let it run whether it will ever resume by 1900*? Yes, but not until 1857 when rock music fill is playing, 1859 standard sign off with another opera tune, chopped off at 1900* before it finish. 594 kHz, May 20 at 1837, meanwhile, I check for the publicized IRRS MW frequency during this hour only, and indeed there it is with same unsynchronized show plus some humbuzz via KiwiSDR near Venezia. 594 is 1 kW Challenger Radio from Villa Estense, which is only 60 km = 37 miles away on opposite sides of Padova. Meanwhile, `Astronomy Cast` is news to us since NEXUS/IBA schedule https://www.nexus.org/member-services/radio-and-tv/schedules/wednesday-program-schedule/ for Wednesday merely shows in MESZ of UT+2: ``20:00 Streaming + 7290+594 kHz English EGR Hope For Today 20:15 Streaming + 7290+594 kHz English News and features from our studio`` So there was no Hope for Today, and generic info for 1815z could include what we heard, but is it on every week? Here it is: http://www.astronomycast.com/about-us/ It looks like this be episode #567 from a month(?) ago: http://www.astronomycast.com/2020/04/ep-567-when-satellites-need-a-house-call/ but the podcast with video starts as if already in progress, not where I heard it start on IRRS; it`s 61 minutes long originally (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 11940, May 19 at 2230, S9/+10, now this is the dead-air frequency of REE instead of 9690 which is VG; fair 12030 also modulating as is very poor 11670. 0015 May 20 recheck, 11940 still dead air. More than a sesquihour of wasted watts this time. Something`s always nonsensical at Noblejas (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TAIWAN. Re: ``According to the announcement from RTI, the inaugural ceremony of the 15th President will be held in Taiwan on May 20. At 0200 UT President Ts’ai Ing Wan will make her 2nd inaugural speech. Broadcasting Corporation of China (BCC) will make special live broadcast of her speech to mainland China and South East Asia, on 1557, 9660, 11880, 12020, 15245, 15310, 15460 kHz. Takahito Akabayashi, Tokyo, Japan``, 0023 UT May 20, WOR iog. Just after 0200 May 20, woman speaking Chinese to applause, all SW frequencies audible via Jakarta KiwiSDR, 15310 best. No sign of QRM/jamming on any of them! Shenzhen SDR offline... Only traces of some of them audible via Bengaluru. Still going loud & clear past 0218 as I stay on 15310 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) However: ``Using the U. Twente SDR receiver, could detect woman in Chinese on 12020 and 15460 kHz. 12020 was the better of the two and then at about 0209, the noise jamming started on 12020 swamping the signal. Noise jamming could be detected on some other frequencies, too, but not on 15460, which was still in the clear and audible but fairly weak at 0216. Still recording. After about 0230, there seemed to be two Chinese stations on 15460. Taiwan had a frequency of 15459.994 kHz while alone on the frequency with the second one (CNR jamming?) a bit stronger at 15459.999 kHz. -- Richard Langley`` NB, WOR iog. ** TURKEY [and non]. 9830, May 19 at 2226, VOT English is on with music, but buried under heavy high-speed RTTY from cochannel NSS. ANF feature on R75 helps a lot; Recheck 2255, IS is playing, 2256 restart with German IDs interspersed twice minutely; 2300 German sign-on vs RTTY *still* going rather than sometimes finished by 2200. Not rechecked until 2323 by when phantom German from VOT is off. This collision has been going on A-seasons for years. It`s incredible that VOT doesn`t know or doesn`t care to change to any of numerous open frequencies on the band. Don`t they ever get reception reports from listeners complaining? Is there no internal communication between Letterbox and TRT Engineering? Don`t they read my monitoring? Ha! Likewise NSS: it should not still be utilitizing [coinage, not a mistake] a broadcast band, but is the QRM from TRT insignificant, its RTTY so robust that AM CCI does not matter? Or is it just robotic with nomilitary really trying to receive it? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2034 monitoring, next: 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Chris Campbell, Columbus OH, who sent a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com with this comment: ``For your long and excellent dedication to a hobby that has expanded my knowledge for a lifetime`` PsyPal not necessarily US funds as they will convert. One may also contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. Next WOR 2035 should be ready by early UT Friday May 22 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9395, May 19 at 1857, WRMI-6 is missing from 24-hour schedule; obviously because 9455 is still on as usual. 9395 still off at 2228 check; and at 0011 May 20 -- this time I confirm that all other active WRMI transmitters are on as usual, at widely divergent modulation levels and strengths to this angle. Except 5800 S9+10/20 of dead air instead of SMTV. Finally at 0224 May 20 check, 9395 is back on with music, Oldies? No, Taiwan in Spanish scheduled (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5130, UT Wed May 20 at 0101, no signal from this WBCQ where W5KUB`s Amateur Radio Roundtable is supposed to run; but it`s on poorly in noise at 0108 check. 6159.967V, UT Wed May 20 at 0101, this WBCQ is back on for Hal Turner, with het from Iramadan closer to 6160.00; also // 7490.1 and WRMI on 9455 for his hatetalk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Wed May 20 at 0107, WTWW-2 with rock music instead of competing QSO ham show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 17775-, May 19 at 1957, still no signal from KVOH, which Ray Robinson hoped would be back on air by this Tuesday. The March 8 program grid if still correct shows M-F Spanish closing times as 1905* on Monday, 2100* on Tuesday & Thursday, 1900* on Wednesday and Friday; English on Saturday until 2000*. Wed May 20 at 1400 nominal Spanish s/on, no 17775 signal. 1659, maybe trace of JJBBA carrier here despite some HF Es between us, but absolutely no signal at Miami SDR. 1757 no signal here nor there (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1931 UT May 20 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Something`s always wrong at RHC. 11800, May 19 at 0322, this RHC is merely undermodulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 13740, May 19 at 0323, RHC S9+10 and hum not quite as bad as 11670. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 417-MCW kHz, May 19 at 0540 UT, ND beacon IY, which is 25 watts from Charles CItY, Iowa. I was tuned to 418-USB. So look for more: 400-MCW kHz, May 19 at 0541, NDB AHQ, which is 25 watts from Wahoo, Nebraska. 379-MCW kHz, May 19 at 0544, NDB RUE, 25 watts from Russellville, Arkansas. WORLD OF RADIO 2034 monitoring: detailed listening for IRRS broadcast of 1800 UT Mon May 18 on 7290, via UTwente SDR in Holland, via home feeder on 90.7 MHz, notes transferred from original Little Caesar`s tan napkin during today`s home lunch of something else: 1750, 7290, Iran in Russian concluding and into IS, no IRRS yet 1753, Iran still on, opening Italian, of all languages, on wrong frequency! Again! and national anthem 1754.5, Iran starts Qur`an but then cuts off air, whew. Allah`ll get `em for that 1755.5, maybe carrier from IRRS, as the slight warble it conveys becomes audible; heavy ACI continues BTW, consensus among reliable monitors in Europe is that 7290 IRRS is NOT from Bulgaria or Romania, but UNKNOWN site 1757, IRRS power seems bumped up now, quieter but still ACI splash 1759, two bits of music mod cut on and off, presumably IRRS feed 1800-1805, dead air continues, no IRRS sign-on, no FSN headlines and missing WOR start 1805, WOR audio starts cutting on and off; again at 1806 1806.5, WOR audio stays on about 5 minutes into program, still ACI splash 1808, cut to dead air again 1809, cut WOR audio back on; I continue semi-listening and do not notice any further breaks but there may have been some 1829, cut off during my IRCA plug, back briefly, off again and rest of program lost, more dead air 1831, cut on Feature Story News JIP 1835, start The Shortwave Report as usual this late so its ending will get chopped off by 1859 Meanwhile after lunch I am checking the adjacent QRM which is unreasonably annoying, and find that Voice of Vietnam in German is on 7285 instead of 7280, at 1834-1836* 1836, 7290 IRRS SWR interrupted again by dead air except for hum, back at 1837 and not monitored further *1837, VOV German comes back on correct frequency 7280, which helps a little but still splashes upon 7290, 10 kHz away. Also during WOR, AM Synch, USB, LSB, AM, various bandwidths tried can never eliminate the QRM. But whenever modulating, still readable if you put up with it WOR 2034 also confirmed UT Tuesday May 19 at 0100 on WRMI 7780 direct, S8/S9+10, fair vs noise. Next: Controversy continues about the IRRS site on 7290. Someone should perform multi-receiver TDOA on this and settle it once and for all. Those in a better position to know are sure it is neither Bulgaria nor Romania. Alexander Busneag, Germany says to the WOR iog: ``So in conclusion, there are many reasons why IRRS 7290 kHz cannot be via Romania, and Mauno now also got a confirmation from RADIOCOM that this transmission is not from them. While it is clear that 9510 kHz EVIDENTLY is via Romania, there is absolutely not the slightest hint that IRRS 7290 kHz would come from Romania! ;-) As Ivo states that IRRS 7290 kHz is not via Bulgaria either, I would suggest to mark the TX location as "unknown": 1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 UNKNOWN? 594-Italy`` 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Thanks this week for financial support from Chris Campbell, Columbus OH, who sent a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com with this comment: ``For your long and excellent dedication to a hobby that has expanded my knowledge for a lifetime`` PsyPal not necessarily US funds as they will convert. Soon I recognize it`s Anna Russell`s hilarious take on Wagner`s Ring Cycle. So now there are comedy routines on UBMP. Finally at 2229 Bill comes on with UBMP announcement and sponsor which I do not endorse; also plugs the upcoming special repeat. As for Anna Russell, wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anna_Russell ``Among her best-known works are her concert performances and famous recordings of The Ring of the Nibelungs (An Analysis) – a humorous 22-minute synopsis of Richard Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen – and (on the same album) her parody How to Write Your Own Gilbert and Sullivan Opera.[1]`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1638 UT May 18 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** CHINA. 13020, May 17 at 1332, huge S9+20 CNR1 with Chinese talk, not music as previously during this Sunday hour. Really a standout with nothing else around this WOOB area; but encourages me to do full bandscan for other jammers to Sound of Hope, 10-16 MHz:
13835, May 17 at 1338, CNR1 jammer at S5-S7 with echo; off by 1412 11440, May 17 at 1340, CNR1 jammer at S3-S5; no others above 10 MHz this hour and this one also off by next check 1412. But see 11460: After 1400 I resurvey 10-18 MHz way-out-of-band areas: 13020, May 17 at 1412, instead of bigsig last hour, now a JBA carrier, tremendous change in jamming or maybe really SOH trace now 11460, May 17 at 1413, CNR1 jammer at S9-S6 11150, May 17 at 1414, CNR1 jammer at S9-S7 11070, May 17 at 1414, CNR1 jammer at S4-S7 10920, May 17 at 1415, CNR1 jammer at S3-S5 10820, May 17 at 1415, JBA presumed CNR1 jammer 13130+, May 17 at 1418, JBA slightly off frequency, so could really be SOH without jamming 13150, May 17 at 1419, JBA carrier, CNR1 jammer? See below 14400, May 17 at 1420, JBA carrier, presumed CNR1 jammer EiBi shows all above as CNR1 or Firedrake jammers of SOH, except: 13150 not listed: rather a local mix RHC 11760 + KCRC 1390 = 13150 13835 against RFA Tibetan via Tajikistan 15110, May 17 at 1421, regular CNR1 jammer against VOA Chinese via Philippines this hour only; there may be others in-band not sought (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Sunday May 17 at 1504, RHC Esperanto is starting on heavily distorted transmitter // clear but weaker 11760. Note the OM announcer insists on mispronouncing ``politiko`` with stress like in Spanish on second rather than penultimate syllable as absolutely required in Esperanto unless a marked diphthong counts as one syllable. Earlier today Sun May 17, Wolfgang Bueschel monitored remotedly: ``6100 kHz sign-off at 0700 UT. Both 6060 and 6145 kHz channels carried Esperanto program only short time. Surprisingly 0702:45 UT 6060 kHz outlet switched OFF. 0703:28 UT 6145 kHz outlet switched OFF. (wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews May 17)`` Something`s always wrong at Radío Havano Kubo. Listeners would have even less chance of hearing the first Espo broadcast if they tune in at announced time of 0800 Sunday on 6100! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA SOUTH. 12935-CW, May 17 at 1334, ``CQ CQ CQ DE HLG3 HLG3 HLG3 QSX --- K``; and same style CQ marker at 1335 on 12923-CW from HLW2; weak compared to 13020 CNR1 jammer, but sufficient, encountered as I bandscan for more jammers. EiBi shows both these as Seoul Radio, but calls without numbers. Some of few marine CW markers left on SW --- but do they really make any QSX contacts? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [non]. Mike Agner, KA3JJZ, says, ``The reported callsign for 9830 RTTY is listed as NSS in the UDXF logs, not NAU. The transmitter site was TDoA'ed to be Davidsonville Maryland, not Puerto Rico per past UDXF logs. Mike`` --- Indeed EiBi also shows this. Just to keep them straight, from EiBi here are all the frequencies shown for NSS ``Annapolis``: 4005, *4985, 6487, *9830, *12015, 15959 --- And for NAU, Isabela, Puerto Rico: 5340, 5716, 6831, *7455, 7830, 10153, *11688, *12120, 13229, 16123, 16213 *some of them near-constant RTTY/STANAG QRM to broadcasts, all frequencies available 24 hours. Thanks, Mike (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. Strange that hardly anyone else take note of such a long-standing defect. Sent: Sunday, May 17, 2020 9:54 PM Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs May 17, 2020 CUBA. 15140, Sunday May 17 at 1504, RHC Esperanto is starting on heavily distorted transmitter // clear but weaker 11760. Note the OM announcer insists on mispronouncing "politiko" with stress like in Spanish on second rather than penultimate syllable as absolutely required in Esperanto unless a marked diphthong counts as one syllable.Earlier today Sun May 17, Wolfgang Bueschel monitored remotedly: "6100 kHz sign-off at 0700 UT. Both 6060 and 6145 kHz channels carried Esperanto program only short time. Surprisingly 0702:45 UT 6060 kHz outlet switched OFF. 0703:28 UT 6145 kHz outlet switched OFF. (wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews May 17)" Something's always wrong at Radío Havano Kubo.
