Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs January 2-3, 2020

** CUBA. 13560, Jan 2 at 1516, spurblob from RHC 13700 first
encountered as I tune up the band, then: 13630 S9+10 with music better
heard in AM than FM; 13700 fundamental S9+10; 13770 S9; 13840 S6;
13910 S4; 13980 & 13490 traces; all about 70 kHz intervals.
Something's always wrong at RHC. Next day Jan 3 before 1400 however,
no spurs heard when both 13700 & 13740 fundamentals are on:
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 7330-7350, Jan 3 at 1336, RHC cracklebuzzhum over this range
out of 7340 transmitter where it is also degrading the intended
modulation; just like used to happen with former 9640 frequency in the
mornings: (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** AUSTRALIA. 5045-USB, Jan 3 at 0945, no signal from Unique Radio
during WORLD OF RADIO time for first SW broadcast anywhere. Not that I
was expecting to hear this low-power affiliate, but checked since I
happened to awaken during. As I said on the WOR iogroup:

``We hope all our Oz members are OK despite the bushfires. Please
check in here when you can. Here`s one recent map of the areas
affected, but not sharp boundaries:

https://www.newsweek.com/australia-wildfire-map-update-bushfires-sydney-new-south-wales-1480207#slideshow/1557316

It looks like Gunnedah, N of Sydney and just east of 150 longitude is
not far from the area, extending inland from the NSW coast. That would
affect Tim Gaynor and Unique Radio. No updates about the M/W/F
schedule at https://www.uniqueradio.biz/
How is it, Tim?`` (Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** AUSTRIA. Re my comments on the New Year concert from Vienna:
looking again at a repeat, I do catch one quick closeup of one female
player, but from the back and quickly pulling out. As for the scenes
of Vienna, they were obviously recorded in the summer, a far cry from
what it must be like now in the winter ORF do not want us to see
(Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** CHINA. 6870, Jan 3 at 1332, Chinese at S6-S8 on noisy conditions.
Aoki shows one of countless CNR1 jamming frequencies against 24-hour
Sound of Hope. I have just tuned up from the 6.2 MHz area without
hearing any of that.

9200, Jan 3 at 1340, JBA talk instead of the open carrier used to park
here; another listed CNR1/SOH frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13560, Jan 2 at 1516, spurblob from RHC 13700 first
encountered as I tune up the band, then: 13630 S9+10 with music better
heard in AM than FM; 13700 fundamental S9+10; 13770 S9; 13840 S6;
13910 S4; 13980 & 13490 traces; all about 70 kHz intervals.
Something`s always wrong at RHC. Next day Jan 3 before 1400 however,
no spurs heard when both 13700 & 13740 fundamentals are on (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 7330-7350, Jan 3 at 1336, RHC cracklebuzzhum over this range
out of 7340 transmitter where it is also degrading the intended
modulation; just like used to happen with former 9640 frequency in the
mornings (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INDIA. 11560, Jan 3 at 1355, woman talking in SW Asian language,
S6-S9. NDXC shows AIR Bengaluru in Dari at 1315-1415 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** JAPAN. 6190, Jan 3 at 1328, Beethoven catches my ear, but stops at
end of movement, 1330 NHK IS and opening Chinese. HFCC shows Korean
and Chinese semihours alternating 1300-1500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1210, Jan 3 at 0659 UT, KGYN Guymon with ID as Liberal
Kansas 106.3 KGYN, no mention of 1210. I see on website
http://stecklinecommunications.com/kgyn/
that 106.3 gets equal billing to 1210 but not top billing. That`s
really a puny translator, K292HJ, 106.3 Liberal KS, unlikely to be
very audible 36 miles away back in Guymon. On the WTFDA FM Database I
see no FM for KGYN in Guymon itself or anywhere else. K292HJ is
slightly north of the 37th parallel so really in Kansas --- like all
the other Steckline properties except 1210, which is normally audible
at night despite supposed to null toward WPHT which I managed to hear
the night before at this time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640, Jan 3 at 1313-1317+ UT, KZLS ``Enid`` in dead air
as frequently happens. Nulling it I can tell there are at least two
other talk stations there (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PUERTO RICO. 391 kHz, Jan 2 at 0714 UT, ND beacon DDP, a new one,
whence? Surprised to find it`s San Juan - Dorado, 1000 watts; my first
from PR, and probably most distant at 3676 km = 2284 st mi. And I was
tuned to 389-USB (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 17615+, Jan 2 at 1515, JBA carrier the OSOB,
obviously the always off-frequency Riyadh; not a trace of 17775 KVOH
this early, but heard later, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Jan 2 at 2347 check, REE again AWOL to North America;
not audible on 12030 either (Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2015, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 2 at 2346, VOT has been on today, now wrapping up
with erroneous English schedule claiming 9515 at 0300, which was A-19;
and imaginary 0600 on 6165 --- hey, that imaginary broadcast would now
be at 0700 UT (rather than 0400 Turktime).(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 12035, Jan 3 at 1356, VOT English to Europe and onward best
heard in a long time, S9/+10 with several program segments: `Weekly
announcements`, reading an article about Turkish involvement in Libya;
1400 song; 1405 `Turkey`s Tourist Attraxions` about Mardin, Anatolia;
lite stray pulse jamming, from Cuba? 1418 new program `Turkey Building
Bridges of Kindness(?)`` on TCCA, the Turkish Cooperation and
Coordination Agency involving 170 countries; 1422 one news headline
about assassinating the Iranian general; 1423 sign-off, brief IS and
off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 8152-USB, Jan 3 at 1343 KNC hosting a net inviting check-ins
from anywhere; at 1345, KPK is heard in contact with Lady Sunscreen(?)
with position co-ordinates; and it`s well past Xmas now. 8152 is
supposed to be an afternoon frequency as previously logged, instead
8104 in the mornings per

https://www.ssca.org/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=710182&module_id=283983

``SSCA's Trans-Atlantic Cruisers' Net (SSCA TACN) is in operation
during the traditional Trans-Atlantic crossing seasons of mid-April
thru early July and mid-October thru Christmas.

The primary participants are:

Glenn Tuttle, Coastal Station KPK, Punta Gorda, FL
Chris Parker, Coastal Station WCY, Lakeland, FL
Jim West, Coastal Station KJM, Ellijay, GA
Dick Giddings, Coastal Station, KNC, Dover, NC

The morning SSCA HF Radio Service Net will remain with a start time of
1215 hrs UTC year round on frequency 8.104`` (Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 10051-USB, Jan 2 at 1855, Gander Radio VOLMET, but
further chex for New York VOLMET on this and other formerly timeshared
frequencies find nothing despite a report they had been heard again:
at 1911 and 2040, 13270-USB open. At 0655 Jan 3, Gander on 6604-USB,
3485-USB and JBA on 10051-USB. All frequencies checked several other
unlogged times with no sign of NY (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2015 contents: Algeria non,
Armenia, Australia, Austria, Bhutan, Bougainville, China, Congo DR,
Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Germany, Iran non, Japan non, Kashmir,
Lithuania,, Madagascar, North America, Papua New Guinea, Poland non,

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5800, Jan 2 at 2100, WRMI is on with SMTV; some days does
not come on until later or not at all, so this time RAE Spanish at
0100 Jan 3 should be there. At 2100 FYI, much weaker 5950 is running
TOMBS (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2015)

** U S A [and non]. 17775, Jan 2 at 1853, KVOH gospel huxter in
Spanish at S9+20, so it`s really on the air now; earlier at 1623 check
not a trace of it while 17830 Ascension & 17880 Mali JBA carriers were
the OSOB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5970, Jan 3 at 0515, after missing a few nights, WEWN is
back --- but with a slight problem: carrier modulated with Spanish
cuts off the air 84 times a minute like clockwork. How do they do
this? When on it reaches S9+10. Later at 0651 check it`s totally off.
Other frequency 9385 in English only S4-S7 but continuous (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 1090, Jan 3 at 0704 UT, dead air from KAAY Little
Rock as often happens, during which I hear a Spanish infomercial
without really trying, no doubt XEAU Monterrey; 0705 KAAY comes to
life with gospel music. USB tuning avoids the 1089 het from UK (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1210, Jan 2 at 0659 UT, PSA for Goodwill Industries in NJ
and Philadelphia so WPHT tho U1 50/50 kW, unusually dominating briefly
over KGYN et al.; I often check around this hour whether daytimer WJNL
MI still be cheating (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 3 at 0439-0457
finds a lot more than usual, including low-power frequencies, two
carriers beating from deeper Europe: 531, 549+(2), 558(2), 576(2),
585, 594, 603(2), 612, 621(2), 639(2), 684+, 693*, 711(2), 729(2),
738, 747, 774**(2), 783, 837(2), 846(2), 855*(2), 864, 873, 882,
891**, 909*, 936(2), 954, 963 [both sides of local 960], 981, 999,
1026(2), 1053*, 1089, 1098(2), 1107(2), 1116, 1125, 1152, 1161, 1179,
1206, 1215(2), 1296(2), 1305(2), 1314, 1323, 1413(2), 1422, 1458(2),
1521, 1539, 1566, 1575. * are the stronger ones. ** the ones with some
music modulation audible, surely Spain and Algeria (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1710, Jan 3 at 0455-0505+ UT, techno(?) music with heavy
regular beat slightly more than twice per second, and another carrier;
no ID or break at ToH. I often get a JBA carrier here, but first time
for any audio. Widely reported further east is a pirate in Virginia?
Tater Patch Radio, and Radio Corsair among others (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 4020-USB, Jan 3 at 1323, formal MARS? net with abbr`d
calls fonetikaly, 7HR, 7PQ, calling for traffic then sent in some
digital mode (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9654-9658, Jan 3 AT 1348, farting-like pulses INTRUDING,
irregular but continuous; audible in SSB mode only, peaking about 9656
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST UPDATED

Hi Glenn, my latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm

1) Ecuador - HCJB (FM): added link to HCJB's local FM programming
(thanks to Dean Bonanno)
2) France - TDF: Added direct link to TDF B-19 transmission schedule
(thanks to *Gaétan Teyssonneau via WOR Groups.Io)*
3) USA - Supreme master TV: Added links to this broadcaster (thanks to
Glenn Hauser)

Unless there's a major change anywhere, the next update will be mid
February. Happy New Year and 73 (Alan Roe, January 1)

** AUSTRIA [non]. New Year`s Day concert from Vienna: heard via WUOT
webcast, Jan 1 at 1600-1800 UT; and via PBS UT Jan 2 at 0200-0330 ---
but these are *very* different. TV is half an hour shorter, with
breaks for host tours of Wienervistas, so lots of music has to be cut;
but the visual element including ballet scenes is a plus. The British
TV host mispronounces Musikverein; it`s hard to be sure with
constantly changing camera angles, but I count only three or four
women among the Vienna Philharmonic, still far from full integration
after being a boys-only club for most of its existence. And never saw
a closeup of any of the female players. But the music is always great
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 13633 & 13768 approx., Jan 1 at 1509, RHC marks the Triumph
Of The Revolution with more spurblobs out of 13700, but none found
further out. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)

** CUBA. 15140, Jan 1 at 1908, RHC in Brazuguese, and on 11760 too ---
15140 supposed to be in Arabic, 11760 supposed to be OFF after 1900.
Something`s always wrong at RHC; something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** GREECE. 9420, Jan 1 at 1905, VOG playing ``Radetzky March`` ---
could it be the Wiener NYD concert --- no, soon backannounce in Greek,
but probably inspired by that. S9 +10 and overmodulation distortion,
which we hate to hear from such a musical station (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS. 11550.022, Jan 1 at 1518, S9-S6 choppy in
Korean and // 11520.0 --- the NMI twins with RFA, via SAIPAN and
TINIAN respectively; yes, Saipan is the one with poor frequency
accuracy (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN [and non]. 684+, 0531 UT Jan 1, significantly off-frequency
TA carrier, compared to e.g. 693.00; such variations are very obvious
when tuning 9 kHz steps with BFO at 1-kHz offsets, my usual method.

RNE is the 200 kW bigsig here and have had it before; offness
confirmed at mwoffsets, this time relatively recently:
``684.074 E RNE Radio Nacional (Sevilla/Los Palacios) 24h 2019-02-11
sometimes on 684.07`` --- no other 684 is anywhere that far above. The
693 for comparison is probably 150 kW BBC Radio 5 Live, altho three
low-power Spaniards are also listed.

If I have any TA carrier on 774, such as 0102 UT Jan 2, it`s at least
two of them, making a beat among the multiple RNE outlets. In this
case, mwoffsets shows none more than 3 Hz low; Egypt is way off high,
774.17 or 774.8 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** SPAIN. 9690, Jan 1 at 2131, REE to North America is AWOL again
today; 12030 to ME is poorly audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 1 at 2339 check, VOT English to North America is
gone again today. Something`s always wrong at Emirler (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A [non]. 6604-USB, Jan 1 at *2350, Gander VOLMET starts: I had
been monitoring for several minutes in case New York VOLMET should
appear as used to be scheduled before Gander each semihour --- because
Mark Coady, ODXA just reported hearing NY earlier today on another of
their once-shared frequencies:

``10051 NEWFOUNDLAND Gander Aeradio in USB at 1457 with terminal
weather forecasts for Canadian airports – Weak but audible Jan 1
Coady-ON – Sked is 20 and 50 minutes past each hour for about 10
minutes. New York Aeradio is on this frequency at other times.
10051 USA New York Aeradio in USB at 1502 with terminal weather
forecasts for American airports – Barely audible Jan 1 Coady-ON``

??? NYR went off about a sesquiyear ago and was not expected to
return. Other frequencies to check: 13270-USB, 3485-USB (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2014 monitoring: surprised to run across me
on WRMI 7780, Wed Jan 1 at 2126 toward the end, S7-S9; 2130 into
Spanish ABF about a no-show by J.C. on 1 May 2011! Wed at 2100 has
been on the System D skedgrid for months, but NO frequencies for any
program at 21-22. Now System F does show 7780 that hour with
programing changes, including blank spaces M/W/F at 2100-2130, so this
is a new(?) secret airing of WOR. The imaginary no-frequency System D
sked still also shows WOR Thu at 2100, and Tue at 2130, so need
checking tho these slots are otherwise occupied in the System F sked.

WOR confirmed as expected, Wed Jan 1 from 2200:20 on WBCQ 7490.03,
fair.

Also confirmed UT Thu Jan 2 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, good S9+10.

WOR 2015 should be ready early UT Fri Jan 3 and first broadcast on SW
Fri at 0900 on Unique Radio, NSW, 5045-USB; 2300 on WRMI 9955; UT Sat
0130 on WRMI 5010, 5850, 7780.

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 5800, Jan 1 at 2130, this WRMI still off, but on later; I`m
still not clear when it start or is supposed to, now (Glenn Hauser,
OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 13685-13690-13695, Jan 1 at 1510, WINB DRM noise is on this
holiday unlike a week ago (Glenn Hauser (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX
LISTENING DIGEST)
