Glenn Hauser Log Roundup July 25-31, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, August 01 2024

Hauser

Please note and spread the word - for those not on a list where my almost-daily all-band but mainly SW log reports appear -- or for those who are but find this a more convenient archive, weekly merged roundups of all these reports in their original form are posted early every UT Thursday via:

http://www.worldofradio.com/Hauserlogs.html

Glenn Hauser logs July 30-31, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, August 01 2024

Hauser
** CUBA. 5025, July 31 at 0640, NO signal from R. Rebelde; when there
is a signal, it`s often with no modulation. Something`s always wrong
at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, July 31 at 2210, RHC S9+10/20 direct but JBM,
supposedly Portuguese. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27224.53 AM, July 31 at 1448, Enid CB pirate after
missing a few days, S9+5 and JBM // 105.5 K288FX `K-Love``. Also
27184.83 at S8. Originally from KYLV 88.9 OKC. 2205 another check on
different receiver: 27184.87 // 105.5, and 27224.6 with heavy skip QRM
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PHILIPPINES [and non]. 12080, July 31 at 1456, S9+10/15 in Korean,
VOA via Tinang at 12-15, is the SSOB with very little else from
abroad. In fact most of the bands are near-dead except for WWCR
blasting 9980, less so 13845, and not enhanced 15825. All WRMIs are
very weak to JBA, also 9330 WBCQ. 12080 is on the 21-degree antenna
toward Korea, and a defacto N American service far beyond, crossing
near Barrow and Detroit, and we are about 10 degrees away from that
bearing.

It seems that almost every 3-hourly SWPC report says
``Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level occurred`` and
``Radio blackouts reaching the R2 level are expected``

and https://spaceweather.com/ via Mike Terry: ``Multiple CMEs are
heading for Earth. They could spark G2-class geomagnetic storms when
they arrive on July 31st and August 1st. During such storms, naked-eye
auroras may be seen in northern-tier US states and central Europe.``

Keep an eye on this auroral oval display:

https://services.swpc.noaa.gov/images/animations/ovation/north/latest.jpg
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Wed July 31 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
S9/+10/20 direct, and the other 3 detectable, preview about a Mérida
festival which started in 1933y to interview someone named Gil. And
Spanish being #2 favorite foreign language in British secondary
schools [#1 French?]. 2201 news starts with counter-lawsuits involving
PM Sánchez; Catalunya to collect taxes instead of central government
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.004-, July 31 at 2158, VOT English not off the air,
IS and ID, S9/+10 direct but JBA vs noise level. 2221 into UTwente
when measured, S9+20/40 about relations with Qatar including a Turkish
military base there. 2224 outro as `The Middle East & Turkey`,
multi-lingual ID filler reel, music. 2231 Ms Badax in a segment I`m
not sure of, maybe That`s Why? Something hardly understandable about
calculators and our world, music. 2241 ``always-by-your-side`` promo.
2242 `Sports Panorama` about Olympic opening ceremony to how Turkish
athletes are doing well. 2250 music. 2252 s/off ignoring SW -
something`s awry at Ankara. 2253 IS. 2256 restart IS with IDs in
German to 2257*. Something`s erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2253 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday
July 30 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S7/9+5 into Peoria SDR.

Also confirmed Tuesday July 30 at 2352 the 2330 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, 3975.001, S9/+10 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday July 31 at 1930.5 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
6160.000- at S9+5 and 3975.002+ at S9+15/20 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday July 31 at 2100 on WBCQ 7489.93, S8/9+5 into
NH SDR. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160.

As a non-commercial service, thanks this week for financial support
via PayPal in US funds but not necessarily, to woradio at yahoo.com
from William Fenech: ``Glenn - thanks for all your efforts to promote
radio, especially Shortwave radio... 73 and Good DX, William NJ6O``

One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 93.5, July 31 at 1717 UT on caradio, ``this is Thunder
Country`` and country music. Only my usual fringer, KKDT Burdett KS;
WTFDA db shows ``93.5 Thunder`` instead as slogan. Apparently a recent
change from ``My Country 93.5`` the last time I noticed it. Unclear
how Thunder is distinctive to Hays KS area; 46 other USA stations
slogan that word including some elsewhere in Kansas. Of course, I was
bandscanning for Es DX -- MUF way up east of here but paths not yet
reaching this far. Slogan heard again at 2305 during another fruitless
Es pursuit. This signal faded from strong to nothing in seconds vs
CCI, as if were ionospheric, but it`s the turbulent 100+degree
troposphere. Also here any weaker signals are subject to surges via
Vance airplane scatter constantly traversing us, and we suspect also
raining jet fuel exhaust exacerbating oily dust at ground level (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0003 UT August 1

Hauser
** BOLIVIA. Re 6145 not on air earlier July 30: ``I am hearing what
appears to be Radio Betania on 6144.98 with prayers at 1045 UTC tune
in but suffering severe interference from 6140 - DRM or jamming. Bryan
Clark, Mangawhai - New Zealand`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9700, July 30 at 0340, S9+10/20 of dead air in English.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

*** CUBA. 5025, July 30 at 0344, S9+20/30 of dead air in Spanish from
R. Rebelde. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba. But 0643 check,
remodulating about Olympix, S9+25/35 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 15440, July  30 at 1445, S Asian song, S3/S6, the SSOB
except for 15825 WWCR getting sporadic E boost. And very little else
on 19mb. It`s TWR in Urdu at 1430-1500. Per EiBi, well-coordinated
site and language changes every semihour: 1330-1400 AWR Thai via
Tajikistan; 1400-1430 AWR Mandarin via Guam; then this (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. DXMAP shows MUF 98 MHz eastward, so out to the car for an
FM DX tunearound, July 30 at 1710 UT: immediately hear Spanish on
88.1, then ``920 AM ... kalientí ... Celaya ... la que manda`` -- so
it is this:

XHRE-FM relays:AM 920 88.1 CELAYA GTO MEX 10.0 kW ERP -73.0 m BELOW
average terrain 20-23-20 100-47-49 Spanish REGIONAL MEXICAN RADIO LOBO
per WTFDA FM Database. 1788 km = 1111 statute miles.

So the sporadic-E season is not quite over. Scanning entire band, only
other sign of Es DX is: 94.1, at 1712 just a bit of Spanish. There are
no Celayans or even Guanajuatans on 94.1; closest to there by G.C.
would maybe be in Hidalgo, CDMX. On 94.1 and many other frequencies,
constant battle among OK and KS fringe signals on a turbulent
100-degree day. Quit at 1737 for lunch; another try at 1834-1840 nets
nothing (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855 & 17715, at 2205 Tue July 30, a non-English day from
REE, instead the Ladino show: if you understand Spanish you can almost
understand this - just some ``odd`` words here and there. YL asking
for listener reports, and then 2207 about ``Romances``, evidently
storytelling in song, some very nice tunes. S9+25/30 on the upper,
slightly less on the lower direct. Thursday is another non-English day
at same hour worth escuching anyway, `Amigos de la Onda Corta`, media
if not DX program (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 6165 & 7275, July 30 at 0332, both VOT English frequencies
for the 0300 broadcast are absent again direct. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.009+, July 30 at 2200, VOT English no signal direct
nor in next few minutes. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. By
2209 recheck it is on at S9/+10 vs high noise level here. At 2235 I`m
on UTwente when measured, S9+45/50. Ms Badax is reading a `Weekly
Commentary` until 2239 music. 2242 `Turkey`s Geomarked Products` about
Malka? yellow cheese made from goat milk. 2245 music. 2249
``always-by-your-side`` promo, music. 2254 s/off ignoring SW,
something`s always awry in Ankara; and IS until 2255* (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2253 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday July 30 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9+20 direct but vs HSNL.

Also confirmed Tuesday July 30 at 1300 on WRMI 9955, S6/S9 direct, no
jamming audible.

Also confirmed Tuesday July 30 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.994
kHz, Villa Estense, S5/S7 into Parma SDR. Next:

2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

** U S A. 9955, UT Tue July 30 at 0640, WRMI at S9+10 in Spanish,
again resuming on-air later than scheduled, with RFI relay not
scheduled now either. Last night it was not on late (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 1280, July 30 at 0350, Black Information Network promos,
IDs; dominant signal at night is WODT New Orleans LA 5/5 kW as we are
in its major lobe to NW/WNW day and night to disserve the Gulf. Was
originally WDSU (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, July 30 at 0640, RV with music, S8/S9 stronger than
usual  and holding its own against 9955 WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 2319 UT July 30

** BOLIVIA. 6145, July 29 at 0139, 0215 and 0416 chex, NO signal from
R. Betania [means Bethany, but probably not referring to the OKC
suburb]. Perhaps its sudden appearance last night were a `proof of
performance`, even a one-off? Others agree it`s absent, Walt Salmaniw,
Zacharias Liangas. And ``Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, Yes, 6145,
nothing here either. Yesterday I sent a WhatsApp to the station, whose
number appears on the website, asking them about this shortwave
transmission, but they did not respond.``

July 30 at 0030, still no signal on 6145 into Brasília SDR aside huge
6150 Saturno; except for some pulsebeepery twice per second, wideband
audible from 6121 to 6175. 0219 no pulse but no Betania either (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, July 29 at 2208, RHC S9+10/20 but very distorted,
unreadable but intonation resembles Portuguese as sked in EiBi, not
Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 11975, July 29 at 2214, CRI French relay amid odd 2130-2230
sked via Bamako, Chinese lesson, mentions ``chinois``, also sounded
like bits of other languages too. Fair signal direct (Glenn Hauser,
OOK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 11935, July 29 at 1928, noise roar is on as received
at UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Mon July 29 at 2200, token English from SNR, VG
direct and the other three audible, preview topic to be interview with
curator of art exhibition of a Britsh-American, multimedia, Susan -?-.
2201.5 news leads with Maduro claiming victory in Venezuela; Hezbollah
attack in Golan Heights, etc. 2210 interview is underway (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 11785.009+, Sun July 28 at 2158, VOT English not
off the air, S9+25/45 into UTwente with IS & IDs. AGAIN bothered by
OTH radar clickery at first, roughly 11780-11795, that in the clear on
11790 & 11795. 2200 s/on by Ms Badax as if this were 17620 on 1230,
and then the olds. 2213 report about the Olympix. 2218 `Weekly
Analysis` repeat about the US elexion, by John somebody.

2223 `Letterbox` starts. This show is very informal, perhaps too much
so, but nice to hear some sincere comments by the host rather than
reading a script. Says it`s been raining in Ankara, complains about
careless drivers, since COVID, people show no respect for one another
-- is Judgment Day nigh, or the End of the World? Crime is peaking.
Only a few letters this week, mostly from the regulars, but devotes
considerable time to some of them.

First from someone in ``Letonia``, different name than the usual
Russian one, wants QSL. Next: Christer Brunström on west coast of
Sweden, who is 76 and has been SWLing since 1962, long letter. Aside,
all Turkey`s neighbors are in conflict [including Greece?]. Lots of
Ukrainians and Russians are moving to Turkey. His apartment building
has both but they don`t get along. Those faxions sometimes get into
fights on the street. C.B. refers to a magazine, QTC. Next at 2235:
Craig Tyson, Perth, another regular, but host wishes he would write
about more than QSL requests.

Next: ``My man``, Alan Holder on Isle of Wight, England, another long
letter. Has to postpone a paint job because of rain. Discussion of
postage. Heard a new program `Turkish Women Heroes`, which I have not.
Lady in correspondence dept. has one helper, responsible for replies
in all 37 language services. 2246 next, Harald Süss, Austria,
reporting on a Persian broadcast which host finds strange. 2248
good-bye in English and Turkish, 2249 music. 2250 Headlines by Ms
Badax, taking 3 minutes instead of usual zero. 2253 s/off the 1230
broadcast, 7 notes of IS before chop at 2254*, no finesse. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785, July 29 at 2200, 2214, no signal direct from VOT
English; nor at 2234 into UTwente, nor on previous goofs 9875, 11795.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2253 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
July 28 at 1900 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.994 kHz, S5 into Parma
SDR.

Also confirmed Sunday July 28 at 2000 on WRN Europe stream, and still
not on WRMI webcast only

Also confirmed Sunday July 28 at 2136 the 2130 on SW Gold Radio,
Germany, S9+10 into UTwente, but that *includes INTRUDER* OTH radar
clickery roughly 6158-6180. I am quite audible above its annoyance,
and still doing it at 2157. Clear on 3975.003 at S9+5/10.

Also confirmed Sunday July 28 at 2330 on WRMI 7570, S9+15/25 into
Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday July 29 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into
Querétaro SDR.

Also confirmed UT Monday July 29 at 0128 the 0100 on Global Community
Radio 1 webcast

Also confirmed UT Monday July 29 at 0130 on WRN North America
webcast.

Also confirmed UT Monday July 29 from 0259.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160
-70 Hz = 6159.93, S9+10/20 into Georgia SDR.

Also confirmed Monday July 29 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany,
6160.001+ at S8/S9 and 3975.002+, S9/+5 into UTwente. Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW;
1300 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?];
2000 UT Tuesday IRRS 1323-Italy;
2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW;
2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975;
1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160;
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW;
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;

** U S A. 9462.2 & 9487.87 approx., parasitic spurs JBA out of WTWW
9475 which is S9+40/50 direct with PPPP, like same transmitter
provides when on 5085, but not noticed here before. Checking UTwente
at 2248, 9475 JBA centered at 9474.999 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955 & 5010, Monday July 29 at 0632, both these WRMIs are
off again instead of extended contrary to schedule, which claims both
expand until 0900* on weekends only with nothing but TOMBS, contrary
to RFI Spanish we axually hear most nights until 0700, then Polish
Radio in English on 9955. Leaving 9960 VANUATU without QRM (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 9960, July 29 at 0632, R. Vanuatu S6/S8 with music, and
for a change no ACI from 9955 WRMI which is off again instead of
expanded (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Over-the-horizon radar seems to be on the increase, more
and more into the ``exclusive`` SWBC bands! Note in this report around
TURKEY 11785, and WOR via GERMANY 6160! Then at 2357 July 28, covering
9959-9984 into Brasília SDR, barely missing WRMI, hitting WWCR 9980.
Collateral damage from Russia`s imperialist war on Ukraine?

11928-11955, July 29 at 2235, OTH radar clickery INTRUDING here, until
cutoff at 2237.5*. Hits S9+15 into UTwente around 11940/11945 middle.
Not to be confused with Saudi buzzer 11935, quite different sound and
narrow-band by comparison, no sign of it amid this now.

7462-7479 approx., July 30 at 0146, weak OTHR clickery, could be a
problem if YHWH show up later on 7475 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 18965 and weaker 18985, July 29 at 2206, open carriers.
I am beginning to doubt these be CNR jammers against no SOH, as not
much else is incoming from China at these hours; but what else? (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** BOLIVIA. At 0415 July 28 I have JBA music on 6145, S7/S9 direct,
about equal to storm noise level, certainly something new. Per Aoki
the only other 6145 during our night hours is PBS Qinghai, China,
could be a problem before sunrise. And at final recheck 0616, I still
have a JBA carrier direct on 6145. This hot news came from RRR at 0255
UT July 28:

``Thanks to the information from a Cuban DXer and friend José Ibrahim
Pose, I was alerted at 0150 UTC about signal on 6145 kHz with Spanish
program Viva la Vida.

At 0203 ID as Radio Betania, followed by TC: "Son las 22 horas" jingle
and the announcement: "esta emisora está regulada y fiscalizada por la
ATT"  ATT (Bolivia's telecommunications control agency).

In a quick search I found that Radio Betania operates on 93.7 MHz and
its online signal coincides with the shortwave signal.
https://www.facebook.com/radiobetania.oficial

The Bolivian station that operated on this frequency was Radio Juan
XXIII from San Ignacio de Velasco, but there is no online signal for
this station, but I found this information from a communications
service provider where last March they published information about
work on the 6145 kHz antenna of Radio Juan XXIII.

https://www.facebook.com/profile/100063812820112/search/?q=6145&locale=eo_EO

At the time 0250 UTC continue with Catholic programs and music. Rafael
Rodríguez R., Bogotá, Colombia``

I posted that immediately on the WOR iogroup, and many other logs
ensued confirming the above info. Walt Salmaniw measured it on
6144.978. And:

``Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, Log in Reinante, NW of Spain, Sangean
ATS 909X, Tecsun PL-880, cable antenna, 8 meters:

BOLIVIA, 6145, Radio Betania, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, probably
emitting through the inactive Radio Juan XXIII transmitter, San
Ignacio de Velasco, Santa Cruz, 0445-0640, 28-07, Spanish, religious
songs and comments, ID “Radio Betania, 93.7”, “Betania, 93.7, 25 años
siendo testigo de la…”, “25 años acompañando su camino de fe, Radio
Betania”, “Radio Betania, la radio de los católicos”. 25422. Program
matches with its website streaming
Web: https://radiobetania.com/
Streaming: https://emiteradio.com/proxy/radiobetania?mp=/stream
Than you very much to Rafael Rodríguez and Glenn Hauser for the timely
alert about this station on WoR@groups.io``

And from Ron Howard: ``Thanks to the informative alerts from Rafael,
Glenn, Manuel, Walt, I was able to catch the new Bolivian on 6145 kHz,
from 0450+ UT, with mostly non-stop religious songs and occasional
announcers. Online I found the following site that not only has live
streaming, but has IDs of all the songs being played.

** OKLAHOMA. 27226v & 27185v, July 28 at 1501 check, strong dead
carriers here, more than one each, making hets, from Enid CB pirates
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11785.019-, July 27 continued from last report, VOT English
into UTwente, 2251 multi-lingual ID fillerr reel; 2253 s/off for the
1230 broadcast, about 9 notes of IS and chop before 2254*, no finesse
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2253 monitoring: ``Glenn, Just as I
thought, [9475] WTWW is now beginning to fade in as early as 2300 for
me. WOR started out as poor, was fair but noisy by 2310, to fair to
good by end. Looking forward to improvement as we move into August.
Tony Pavick, Hope BC Canada``
