Glenn Hauser logs February 21-22, 2020  View Printable Version
Saturday, February 22 2020

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.96, Feb 22 at 1803, via Pardinho SP KiwiSDR,
LRA36 ID in passing and again at 1804 as ``la radio más austral del
mundo``, seems discussion with station manager in Argentine accent, of
the station and history of the base. It seems that 22 Feb is the
anniversary of something. Tnx to tip from Dan Robinson who was hearing
it the previous hour also via this remote and still probably the one
at Gaithersburg MD, who`s been on RX #07 since 1716. This interrupts
my listening to Mozart at the Met! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15369.2+, Feb 21 at 2150, RHC still off-frequency at day #11.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255-, Feb 22 at 0647, no signal from VON. It`s usually
there always with a bigsig (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 7138-LSB, Feb 22 at 0654, H44MS calling CQ DX over
and over, calls fonetikally. Much better signal than we ever get from
SIBC on 9545 or 5020; what does that tell us? So I then check 5020 and
get a JBA carrier next to Cuba.

Info from:
https://www.qrz.com/lookup/h44ms

He`s really a German who makes extended visits to SI, currently 5 Feb
to 20 April. ``H44MS is call of DL2GAC during DX vacations in Solomon
Islands since 1990 Main interests: DX, IOTA activations, award
hunting: US-county hunter.

H44MS Solomon Islands
Bernhard M. Stefan
Moeggenweiler Str. 18/Rueckseite
88677 Markdorf
Germany
QSL: via DL2GAC, BUREAU or DIRECT``, detailed instruxions for SWLs. NO
info on exactly which Solomon Island he is upon, but apparently not
Shortland, next to Bougainville, since that was a 1995 DX-pedition
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 21 at 2301, VOT English is on today but VP
signal; on contrary, Wolfgang Bueschel found it much better:
``5960.004, noted tremendous powerhouse of TRT Emirler site, Turkish
string instrument played and then final announcement at 2353 UT
followed. S=9+45dB or -33dm full powerhouse noted here in Germany and
Belgium-Netherland border remote SDR rx. At 23.55:07 UT sudden crash
'TX down OFF' midst on program in progress. CHINA, Now after that TRT
procedure, heard co-channel PBS Xinjiang Chinese service from Urumqi
bcast center, - 72 Hertz less fq on 5959.928 kHz measured. S=8-9 or
-70dBm less strong. 73 wb`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565-CW, Feb 22 at 1452, K6FRC beacon is JBA, first time
heard since Feb 5, always around this time of day if at all. Another
Californian with a lot more power and a lot more kHz is still
inaudible after 1600 when KVOH should be on 17775 with Wavescan (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13724, 13756, 13772, 13788, 13804; 13836, 13852, 13868,
13884, JBA carriers around these approx. frequencies, Feb 22 at 1455,
i.e. spurs out of 13820 Radio Martí, Grimesland, NC. More like JJBBA;
easily overlooked but since matching audio on one of them to 13820 a
few days ago, I know what these are, at ~16 kHz intervals from
fundamental.

Today no spurs from 13700 RHC; and 13740 RHC blox one of the RM spurs.
At 1525, 13740 RHC is still on with dead air. I start to try to
measure 13724 exactly to get a precise picture of the spurfield, but
just too weak and interrupted by some pulsing QRM (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2022 monitoring: confirmed Friday
Feb 21 at 2300 on WRMI, initially not audible under jamming on 9955,
then becomes JBA; not very good on remotes in E USA or Quebec, but
fair with jamming at Bogotá, and good at Pardinho. By ending 2328,
finally atop jamming direct to OK.

Also confirmed UT Saturday Feb 22 at 0130 on WRMIs: 5010, fair S9 but
noisy; 7780, poor S7-S9; 5850, good S9+10/20, as to be expected from
the different azimuths, 5850 being right at us. Next:

2030vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM
0400vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0415]
2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780

Our thanks this week for financial support from Karl Witsman, Danville
IL, who sent a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com. One
may also contribute by money order or check in US funds on a US bank
to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7490.2, UT Sat Feb 22 at 0101, WBCQ `AAAWWW` is yet again
substituted with no AAA, rather Pirate Joe, starts talking over WTO
theme, very rambling, messing with settings like AW often does; says
nothing wrong with Allan, just continuing his sabbatical. Poor
reception, fair S9 but noisy and fading down. I`ll leave it to John in
case there is anything significant. Recheck at 0145, 7490 reception is
better and much stronger than // 5130 which is now detectable.

John Carver reports, first at 0104 UT Feb 22: ``Tonight's AAWWW ---
Glenn, No decent signal on 7490. 5130 transmitter is on with dead air
and no program. Will continue to listen. John`` --- and at 0209:

``Tonight's AAWWW --- No readable signal on 7490. Transmitter was up
on 5130 but just dead air. Dead air continued until 0127 when Pirate
Joe popped up out of nowhere in mid-sentence talking about community
radio and pirate radio. Then was castigating the government for their
stand on pirate radio which soon morphed into talk about homeless
Vietnam Vets and then back to pirate radio and then back to community
broadcasting. Pirate Joe mentioned that Allan and Angela would be back
in the spring. Program was off the air at 0200 and 5130 went into the
Hal Turner show. John, Mid-North Indiana``

``Spring`` ? So that means no earlier than March 21, no later than
June 20 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1090, Feb 22 at 0701-0705:30 UT, KAAY Little Rock still
provides a ToH deadairhole, missing most of SRN news before gospel
music pops back on; all I could hear without really trying was
Spanish, XEAU (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5050, Feb 22 at 0655, weak carrier in 5040 RHC splash,
and nothing on 5055 which might be 4KZ. Certainly not WWRB, and
nothing else scheduled at this hour, not even China or India, which
would not be propagating this early anyway. Europirate? (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

TAIWAN [non]. 9490, Feb 21 at 0106, no signal from Issoudun, and
maybe no jamming either yet; tho registered to start at 0100 with RMI
programming, i.e. Radio República --- but I think that only apply once
CubAmerican DST be in effect from March 9.

Checking because RTI has publicized that it will experiment with
revived Spanish broadcasts UT Feb 23-26 at 0100-0130 on 9490, site not
specified but surely FRANCE. And again at 0300-0330 on 9500, because
jamming and R.R. will still be on 9490 at that time. Voluntarily
picking a frequency ever subject to Cuban jamming is foolish, as it
may well extend beyond the ``necessary`` hours [see TURKEY].

Sure enough at 0157 recheck, jamming is already running on 9490, and
the ISS carrier cuts on just in time at *0159:39, but any programming
to follow is inaudible under jamming. Propagation from Europe is
degraded anyway now, K-index 4 at 0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

TURKEY. 5960, Feb 20 at 2346, VOT English made it on air today, but
now wrapping up with canned totally wrong A-19 English schedule, as I
have previously explained in detail; which usually plays at sign-on.
Something`s always awkward at Ankara.

Logs
** CHINA. 7255, Feb 21 at 1337, Russian discussion mentioning some
Chinese names. Chances are high that any Russian heard on SW will be
from CRI --- certainly not from Russia! --- and indeed this is, an
hour via Shijiazhuang site, 500 kW at 37 degrees, thUSward (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15369.23, Feb 20 at 2340, JBA carrier as RHC continues way
off-frequency for the tenth day; VP propagation now, but earlier in
afternoon normally inbooms. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ERITREA. 7140, Feb 21 at 0426, constant JBA carrier, presumed VOBME
but nothing on their other frequency 7180 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15215, Feb 21 at 1608 tune-in to yearly Radio
Öömrang broadcast via FRANCE --- discussion mostly in Frisian, some
high German, and brief intros in English at 1626 and 1628. Longer
outro in English at 1658 with contact info and credits, and to be
heard again on 21 Feb 2021; 1659:30 to open carrier and off 1700*.
First checked on home receiver, then on remotes in eastern USA, with
VG reception. I was distracted during closing but did not hear a
mention of the DRM repeat supposedly 48 hours later same frequency and
time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 640, Feb 21 at 1319 UT and still 1330, dead air
from KWPN Moore, as happens frequently; vs fast SAH and CCI probably
led by KFI, which without KWPN at night would have a clear shot into
OK (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SAO TOME. 7255.0, Feb 21 at 0427, uncertain African language S9-S7,
0429 mbira song, 0430 hilife music. This hour is VOA Zimbabwe service
a.k.a. Studio 7, mixture of Shona, Ndebele and a little English (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TAIWAN [non]. 9490, Feb 21 at 0106, no signal from Issoudun, and
maybe no jamming either yet; tho registered to start at 0100 with RMI
programming, i.e. Radio República --- but I think that only apply once
CubAmerican DST be in effect from March 9.

degraded anyway now, K-index 4 at 0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 20 at 2346, VOT English made it on air today, but
now wrapping up with canned totally wrong A-19 English schedule, as I
have previously explained in detail; which usually plays at sign-on.
Something`s always awkward at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 6125, Feb 21 at 0400, Cuban noise jamming against Radio
Martí is still running altho RM has just closed this frequency as
always (and no longer separate TV Martí soundtrack, right?). Cannot
detect VOT English to western N America as scheduled, until 0405
starts to become audible under jamming but unusable. No better at
0435, still heavy jamming atop VOT music(?).

This is absolutely self-defeating, of all possible frequencies picking
one right next timewise to Cuban jamming; could be on 6120 or 6130
both of which are open tho also adjacent frequency-wise. Plenty of
other open spaces on band. I also wonder if 6125 VOT transmission be
as erratic as 5960 one five hours earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7178-LSB, Feb 21 at 1342, net in unknown language, mostly
strong signals, repeatedly discussing marijuana; occasional bits of
English; one guy with a rather melodic tone and prolonged vowels. One
call until 1351 sounds like KH0I#, last letter not clear. KH0`s are in
Saipan and Guam per ARRL lookup, but I think these are closer. Still
going at 1459 in contact with N4KH, VA6RB, and K0ADI?

N4KH is SPIKES JR, JAMES B, HUNTSVILLE, AL 35803-2095.
VA6RB is Roldan Gloria Bartolome, CALGARY, AB T3M 0S3 Canada
K0ADI is KITTLEMAN, ROD A, NIXA, MO 65714

At first I was guessing the language could be Indonesian? Or Tagalog?
Now I wonder if Chamorro, or a language around here, Marshallese.
Online searches for a net at this time on this frequency are
unsuccessful. Anyone know what this is? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2022 contents: Australia, Brasil,

Indonesia, Korea North & South, Kuwait, Madagascar, Malaysia, North
America, Oklahoma, Papua New Guinea, Sarawak non, Taiwan and non,

at a time this frequency is supposed to be off; other three are
nominal: 5935 PMS S9+10-20. 4840 Infowars, 3215 TOMBS (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085 & much weaker parasitic spurs about 5072 & 5097, Feb 21
at 1327, WTWW-2 is running rock music, so again has it stayed on all
night? You never know (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

from Spain synchros), 837, 891, 936, 999, 1125, 1152, 1215(2), 1305.
Rather surprised to find a ``normal`` situation as K-index at 0300 was
4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2097.3, Feb 21 at 0627 and 1320 chex, single-letter
