Monday, February 24 2020

Logs
** CUBA. 9965, Feb 24 at 1513, pulse jamming vs nothing, old Radio
República Costa Rica frequency, and also on 9955 now that WRMI has
finished morning block; the latter also briefly jammed by continuous
tones. Something`s always wrong at the DentroCuban Jamming Command
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 11965, Feb 23 at 2050, jazz music to 2057* with no
announcement, must have been APR via MWV English hour (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6924.9-AM, Feb 23 at 2351 unID pirate music JBA at
S5-S6. A few other reports as unID as if on 6925, 2330-0004:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,63491.0.html
In May 2017, Captain Morgan Shortwave was on this off-frequency
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 12030, Mon Feb 24 at 1511, S4-S6 open carrier, presumably
REE which on weekdays is supposed to start at 1600, weekends 1500.
Beam to ME but this early, often better here off the back than 9690 to
us off the front (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 23 at 2340, VOT English to us is AWOL again.
Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. 366 kHz, Feb 23 at 0710 UT, ND beacon EOK, which
is 25 watts from Keokuk, Iowa; new one here; mixing with YMW and dash,
500 watts from Maniwaki, Quebec, heard often without EOK (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7615-USB, Feb 24 at 1525, Civil Air Patrol net with
YL-sounding NCS; quick check-ins by Mockingbirds 50, 8 and 34, who are
in Mississippi (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2022 monitoring: confirmed UT
Monday February 24 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, S9 via indoor random wire
during storm, but fadeout by 0145.

Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 24 at 0230 on WRMI 7780, poor-fair via
UTwente SDR, but no signal on // 9395; nor here nor on various SDRs to
the SSE, NE or NW; yet 9455 is OK in New York, so I conclude 9395 is
NOT on the air as it and 9455 are on exactly same azimuth 355. Yet by
0409, 9395 is S9+10 with TOMBS. WOR via WRN webcast also confirmed at
0230.

Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 24 from 0400 on Area 51 webcast; WBCQ 5130
JBA at 0409 & 0427, now back on external longwire.

Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 24 at 0430 on WRMI 9955, VP under wall of
noise jamming, but OK on webcast. F-G on the Bogotá KiwiSDR but not at
all on the other one in Colombia. Next:
1900vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania?
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780
0900 UT Wednesday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

As acknowledged at mid-break: Our thanks this week for financial
support from Karl Witsman, Danville IL, who sent a contribution via
PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com. Not necessarily US funds: PP will
convert. One may also contribute by money order or check in US funds
on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330.0, Feb 23 at 2045 & 2340, WBCQ-6 WLC Radio is off
again; by Feb 24 at 0657 apparently on with music talk, JBA S1-S2 for
500 kW? MUF reigns every time. On at full strength S9/+10, Feb 24 at
1517, gospel huxter in English about Genesis. So it`s erratic, why?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs February 21-22-23, 2020

** CUBA. 15369.233, Feb 22 at 2253, RHC S9/+10 in distorted Spanish,
off-frequency for the eleventh day. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

CUBA 15369.235 RHC Spanish, Febr 23 at 23.35 UT, S=9+20dB strength
noted in Detroit Michigan SDR remote rx.

15730even RHC at 23.30 UT on Febr 23. ID in Esperanto, the Sunday only
outlet, followed by Latin AM singer, ID again at 23.32 UT with Esperanto
weekend schedule reading. Up to 14 kHz wideband signal in peaks.
120 Hertz distance strings visible either side, BUZZ of deep 120 Hertz
annoying.

CHINA/MYANMAR 5914.982 kHz MRMS Myanmar Radio from Nay Pyi Daw site at
23.10 UT, and underneath CRI English from Kashgar Saibagh #2022 bcast center
site. Both equal S=9 signal in Germany, BEL/HOL border and in Blackpool
England.

TURKEY 5960.004 VoTurkey via Emirler site. At 23.15 UT on S=9+30dB
-37dBm strength in western Europe. 11.2 kHz wideband audio noted.

S=9+25dB strength in remote rx at Cape Canaveral FL state.
S=9+15dB in Detroit Michigan.
S=9+25dB in Alabama AL state, at 23.24 UT on Febr 23.

73 wb df5sx

** TURKEY. 5960, Feb 22 at 2300, VOT timesignal ends one sesquisecond
later than WWV as usual; sign-on with totally wrong English schedule
as usual, e.g. this transmission at 22-23 on 9830 which is when and
where it is in summer A-seasons. Something`s always awkward at Ankara.
Already off at 2349 recheck, if it lasted for entire transmission, but
no collision this week of German from Turkey vs English from Germany,
Mighty Farty KBC at 0000 Feb 23 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Sunday, February 23 2020

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. LRA-36, 15475.98 via Brasil SDR, Feb 22, continued
listening from last report: 1830 mentions a helicopter, and tries to
play a song about Antarctica, 1831 succeeds, 1833 trying for a hookup
with another Arg base, San Martín, but does not seem to make it; 1836
ID and `Antártida`` song, 1840 ID, mentions ``El día de la Antártida
Argentina``, marking continuous presence for 116 years since 1904y.
Here`s more about that:

https://www.losandes.com.ar/article/view?slug=el-dia-de-la-antartida-argentina

Still going at my next and last check of Brasil SDR at 1920. Dan
Robinson said it went off at 1912 UTC, but he must have meant 2012 UT
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15369.233, Feb 22 at 2253, RHC S9/+10 in distorted Spanish,
off-frequency for the eleventh day. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, Feb 23 at 1555, this RHC still on with S9+20 of dead
air like it was an hour earlier. Think of how many poor Cubans might
have had a hearty breakfast for the wasted electricity expense of just
one hour. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15700, Feb 23 at 1556, China Plus relay is S9+20 but JBM,
suptorted: wiggle that patchcord! Just about to end but likely thus
the past bihour. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15210-15215-15220, Feb 23 at 1620, Radio Öömrang via
FRANCE in DRM, first time this year that the Feb 21 original get such
a repeat, altho one year they had to reschedule when the first AM one
failed. VG with a few dropouts via the KC2QII KiwiSDR, as I still am
not motivated to tune any DRM directly myself. Once again a couple of
brief bits in English at 1626 & 1628 introducing interviews in
Frisian, which I do not understand any better in DRM than in AM. Just
caught tail of sign-off also in English until 1659* (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-AM, Feb 23 at 0214, JBA music not // 1390 so
not fifth harmonic of local KCRC. 0348 still there but at 0412 I do
find it // 1390. Maybe this what I was getting at first, with enough
AM carrier from the KCRC X 5 local harmonic to make it seem AM: unID
6950-USB 0143-0155:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,63445.0.html

However, earlier, Loopy Radio was on 6950.3-AM until 2340*:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,63439.0.html
But this was later and not noted to be +0.3 kHz (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. As mentioned previously, Kyle Williams, president of
Williams Broadcasting, LLC, licensee of 103.1 KOFM, 100.9 K265FL and
its AM dog 960 KGWA, was among the speakers at The Entrepreneur 2020,
a 2-day series of seminars at NWOSU sponsored in part by the Charles
Koch Foundation, Feb 21 at 1930 UT -- previous one ran over and did
not start until 1953. It was supposed to be audio/video-linked to
three other NWOSU campi but no one showed up there.

Despite his original billing as head of the radio stations, those are
only a minor part, it seems, of his business empire, so we learned
absolutely nothing about the local broadcasting scene; rather his life
story of trying and failing and then succeeding.

In the Q&A I wanted to ask him about naming his studio for a funeral
home, but figured more important was, ``As a Christian who `loves
people`, how can you justify broadcasting a hate-monger like Rush
Limbaugh?`` Answer: ``because he loves the lord`` --- there you go!
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A. 410 kHz, Feb 23 at 0721 UT, ND beacon BA, which is 25 watts
from Columbus - Clifford, Indiana. Altho spring storms are not yet a
problem on LW/MW, I now have local line noise bothering this band
only, difficultizing DX --- hard to hear anything new, as this is not
either, altho I still pulled but not relogged CBC Cayman Brac on 415
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 6477.5-CW, Feb 22 at 2358, V marker from KPH, the MRHS
legacy station at Point Reyes, California; V/CQ marine markers are so
rare these days that any really stand out. Longer message repeating, I
suppose with QSX info, not copied; active weekends only (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565-CW, Feb 23 at 1452, K6FRC beacon audible again vs
CODAR. Daily I check the entire HIFER/ISM band 13550-13570 and this is
the only one I ever hear, rarely. What about all the others on this
roster, including latest dates reported somewhere, 2020, 2019 or
2018y?
https://www.lwca.net/sitepage/part15/index.htm
In years past I had heard several of those, at least three still on
the list, GNK, MTI, SZX. K6FRC shown as 13565.035, 10 wpm (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2022 monitoring: Ivo Ivanov,
Bulgaria, reports ``Fair signal of World of Radio #2022 on February
22: 1300-1330 on 15770 RMI 100 kW / 044 deg to WeEu English Sat``

Also confirmed UT Sunday Feb 23 at 0432 from WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, via
K9MQ KiwiSDR in IN/IL, about 5 minutes in, so started circa 0427; lots
of LSB ACI, and then on 160m direct I find it full of phone signals,
as happens only during a contest; amazing what a difference that make
to normal ops. Earlier at 0349, 1860 here was VG S9+20. Next:

As acknowledged at mid-break: Our thanks this week for financial
support from Karl Witsman, Danville IL, who sent a contribution via
PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com. One may also contribute by money order
or check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid
OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Feb 22 at 2305 NO signal from WBCQ-6: oh2, another
breakdown? Not for long; is there at 2350 check, only fair in
Brazuguese. Apparently still on a scheduled break at 2200-2300.

9330, Feb 23 at 1919, NO signal from World`s Last Chance, supposed to
be on now in Arabic, which ought to be audible tho aimed thataway.
Oh3, another breakdown? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5130.0, Feb 23 at 0001 tune-in, WBCQ dead air, shortly
``Loituma Girl`` IS and TimTron opening, S9+10. Meanwhile, other WBCQ
on 7490.2v was also S9 of dead air at 0001. Later in evening without
measuring, noticed closer to 7490.1v (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9350, Sat Feb 22 after 2100, WWCR-2 with `Encore` classical
music from Radio Tumbril in Scotland. Brice announces that this airing
will end after next week, as will the WBCQ at 0100 UT Monday on 7490
--- but it`s moving to WRMI, starting Feb 29 [UT March 1], UT Sunday
0100 on 5850 to the NW, and UT Monday 0300 on 9455 to the NNW. Glad
this excellent show will continue on SW! But these WRMI frequencies
are not webcast (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Feb 23 at 0125, WTWW-2 not checked earlier, but
no theatre organ music now; was it earlier or never? Now it`s rock;
and at 0211 I notice 5085 is off the air, while $ tereo webcast
continues. At 0238 DJ recommends SWLs tune to the webcast --- but
there are no SWLs at the moment; 0350 check it`s on again with rock DJ
requests (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5050, Feb 23 at 0645, mystery carrier here again, S8-S9
but no modulation audible vs 5040 RHC splash. Another possibility:
like the 11850 transmitter, a +10 kHz JBA spur from it; but cannot
hear a match at minus 10 on 5030, altho more splash there from 5025.
Further, the crummy modulation of 5040 is not like that on 11850 if it
were same transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13671.7, Feb 23 at 1455, JBA carrier. Does not correlate
with 13820 OCB, 13740 or 13700 RHC as spurs, and no siblings found in
quick scan. Possibly a local device or birdie but not there at 1920
check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
