Glenn Hauser logs March 5-6, 2020 |
|
Friday, March 06 2020
![Logs](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/logs.gif) ** CUBA. 6060, March 5 at 0718, RHC is S9+20 but JBM in English; 6145 is S9+10 undermodulated but sufficient. Of the remaining Cuban Five, 5040 and 6000 are off; 6100 a JBA carrier likely something else: perhaps KCBS P`yongyang altho a bit early for it, sunset not until 0934. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA [and non]. 13740, March 5 at 1524, RHC S9/+10 of dead air, which is getting to be a habit; while 13700 is modulating OK at S9+20 without spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC, which is supposed to be OFF 13740 at 1500*-*2200. 13740, March 5 at 1856, S9 open carrier, still RHC? RFI in French is scheduled here at 1700-2000, and I do briefly hear a bit of French underneath at 1857-1900+ but by 1908 just the carrier, S9+10. At 1911 I check via UTwente SDR and find a weak OC. So is it RHC, ISS out of order, or both? A day or two ago, my caradio stopped on 13740 during a sufficiently modulated RFI French (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ETHIOPIA [non]. 11990, March 5 at 1530, language talk at S5-S8, HOA music, ID sounds like ``Huna Radio ----`` but not Arabic; recheck 1600 is off. Ron Norton notified me along with expanded IRRS English broadcasts for Coronavirus: ``Additionally, new broadcasts have been started as of today March 4, 2020 in Oromo language to Ethiopia on 11990 from 1500-1600 UTC (@ 250 kW)`` and the IRRS website says it`s daily. But name of it or sponsorship NOT given; another new clandestine to this area? Ivo Ivanov in Bulgaria says site is Secretbrod = Kostinbrod, Bulgaria where the power is only 50 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2024) See also ITALY [non] ** GREECE. 9420, March 6 at 0053, S9-S5 of open carrier --- yet another station suffering from Dead Air Syndrome, Voice of Greece (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ITALY [non]. (7290), March 5 at 1824, via UTwente SDR, `War Room - Pandemic`` new show about CoronaVirus on IRRS, interviewing someone from a Los Angeles hospital, until 1845 music fill for rest of hour. Part of expanded broadcasts from IRRS, starting 7290 at 1800 instead of 1900: that explains why I was already hearing music on Monday March 2 before WORLD OF RADIO --- but there was some kind of change in transmission before 1900, different sites? 7290 has been assumed to be one of the Romanian sites, Saftica or Tsiganeshti. Ron Norton wrote: ``Hello There from IRRS & EGR, 1.) While most of Northern Italy has come (nearly) to a halt due to the recent coronavirus outbreak, we have just extended our global coverage with daily broadcasts to reach out to Europe, the Middle East, Asia/Pacific and Africa with daily news and commentaries on COVID-19 in English. Here are our new (daily) frequencies as of Feb. 21, 2020 (@ 150 kW): 9640 kHz (1400-1500 UTC) to Asia and Middle East 7290 kHz (1800-2000 UTC) to Europe 9660 kHz (2000-2100 UTC) to Africa 594 kHz (2100-2200 UTC/2200-2300 CET) AM/Medium Wave to N Italy and Southern/Central Europe Please check our blog for more details at: https://nexus.org/coronavirus-qsl/ You may find our updated B19 frequency schedule at: https://nexus.org/schedules 2.) On the occasion we have released our new QSL card available electronically for all reception reports. You may send your reception report for any of our broadcasts to reports@nexus.org. We will gladly acknowledge all verified reception reports with our new electronic QSL. When requesting our QSL card, please consult our Privacy Policy at https://nexus.org/privacy and learn how we process your personal data according to the GDPR. Stay home, stay safe: listen to Shortwave! 73s, Ron`` That`s the motto on the eQSL which several have already received along with an illustration of the CV. Ivo Ivanov says 9640 is also via Bulgaria since he can hear its second harmonic 19280 on local groundwave and power is only 50 kW. Richard Langley notes: ``Website mentions this: "A new program aired via IRRS-Shortwave is called “War Room Pandemic” and produced in the USA by Steve Bannon, political advisor, media executive, former investment banker and former White House Chief Strategist." !!! Will it be objective and science-based?`` --- Beware! Dr Hansjoerg Biener says on 04 March: ``Bannon's website on the new podcast is available at https://pandemic.warroom.org/ His podcast seems to have started on 27 January 2020 but look at the web address closely: https://pandemic.warroom.org/category/war-room-impeachment/page/2/ SPECIAL – War Room: Pandemic, Why the Wuhan Coronavirus is So Important January 27, 2020 Steve Bannon, Jack Posobiec, Jack Maxey, Simone Gao, Kyle Bass, Dr. Bradley Thayer, Bill Gertz, and Maura Moynihan take part in a special, hour-long discussion about the coronavirus emerging out of China, and the serious economic and health implications`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2024) ** MEXICO. 6185.710v, March 6 at 0048, oh2, XEPPM is off-frequency again after someone bumped the transmitter, JBM Spanish. (Too late to mention on WOR 2024, rather it had recently resumed 6184.974.) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 7325 & 6130, March 6 at 0102, the anomalies from RRI continue, these two in English and no signals or Romanian on 7410 & 5910 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TIBET [non]. 5890, March 6 at 0046, JBA music and talk, S7-S9, off at 0103 check. This hour only is VOA Tibetan via KUWAIT, so more likely hearing the CNR1 jamming. WWCR-4 may use 5890 at 03-13, but currently on air only 03-05 Tue-Sat, plus later at night dead air occasionally. From March 8 with the imposition of DST, all times above one UT hour earlier: new shifted sked is up at: http://www.wwcr.com/transmitter-sched.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, March 5 at 2345, VOT English on today, enough modulation to enjoy some music, 2351 headlines, 2352 sign-off claiming this has been the 1330 broadcast on 12035! IS continues, and at 2356 restarts to include IDs in German twice a minute. 0000 March 6, timesignal as usual a sesquisecond late, and opening German --- but chopped off the air at 0003*. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. Maybe power at Lebanon TN is still sporadic after tornados (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VIETNAM [non]. 7315, March 6 at 0044, WHRI in S9+10 of dead air when it`s supposed to relay VOV in Spanish; still dead until off at 0058* but back on at *0058:20 with stronger signal after beam change with WHRI ID, music and promos, 0100 VOV starting Vietnamese hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1520, March 6 at 0110 UT, some musical station with songs considerably QRMing talker KOKC OKC, making 72/minute SAH = 1.2 Hz. Best heard with KOKC nulled as much as possible, but cannot get a positive fix on it. What is KYND TX doing now? It`s almost the same bearing from here as KOKC (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5780, March 5 at 0715, JBA carrier, maybe trace of modulation. No broadcasters known here. Not a MW harmonic. Not an RHC leapfrog. Maybe pirate, Euro? Glenn Hauser logs March 4-5, 2020 |
|
Thursday, March 05 2020
![Logs](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/logs.gif) ** CUBA. 15370, March 4 at 2210, RHC is AWOL but on 15370.0 at 2329 check, S9+20/30 but overmodulated, distorted while // 13740 is good. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11850, March 4 at 2215, RHC Spanish is S9+10 but suptorted; not English like on 11880. As always accompanied by much weaker parasitic carrier on 11840, and probably one to match on 11860 vs OCB/jamming. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. After last night`s anomalies from RRI in the 01-03 period, I check again March 5 at 0058: 6130 & 7325 with RRI IS, 0100 opening English with detailed satellite info and other platforms but NO mention of SW frequencies! Meanwhile, 7410 and 5910 are off. At 0200 I check all four via UTwente SDR: French is starting on 7410 and 6130; 5910 and 7325 are off. So the same as before; Romanian missing, and swap 7 MHz frequencies by 0200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Mar 4 at 2328, caught tail of REE English back on the air today as Alison is axually speaking news about Snowden, Boris (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, March 4 at 2329, VOT is on at S9+10 but JBM, no good English. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2023 monitoring: confirmed the Wed 2100 on WRMI 7780 at 2126 check March 4, JBA direct; fair via UTwente SDR. Also confirmed Wed Mar 4 starting as usual at 2200:20 on WBCQ, 7490.2v, fair. Also confirmed UT Thu March 5 at 0100, JBA on WRMI 7780, but VG via UTwente SDR. WOR 2024 should be ready by early UT March 6 for first NAm SWBC Friday at 2300 on WRMI 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5830, March 5 at 0250, WTWW-1 is back on with SFAW from tornado-ravaged Lebanon TN, but 5085 WTWW-2 is still off. 5830 had been underpowered but now is quite strong. The WTWW-1 webcast is running too, `Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting` with a caller from Wisconsin at 0255; but not WTWW-2 stream (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 5915, March 5 at 0057-0101+, carrier with heavy splash from 5920 WHRI. By 0125 same talk is JBA. Checking because JRX in Brasil reported ZAMBIA here around 0100 last night in vernacular. ZNBC has run 24 hours before and might again, perhaps due to electric ``load shedding`` meaning no power during day or prime time but available when demand is much lower overnight. However, one other station is listed active before and after these hours, MYANMAR, where it`s just after sunrise. I try the two KiwiSDRs in RSA and one of them is getting it no better than I am, nor does UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0313 UT March 5 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser logs March 3-4, 2020 |
|
Wednesday, March 04 2020
![Logs](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/logs.gif) ** CANADA. 218 kHz, March 4 at 0725 UT, ND beacon dash and RL, which is 975 watts from Red Lake, Ontario. Strangely enough I was tuned to 219-USB. Amid storm noise crashes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. Glad to see that following my complaint, EiBi does now list China via Cuba on 11980 as harm[onic] at 23-01. But searching entire file, no others yet from this or any other country. See also VIETNAM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5040, March 4 at 0536, RHC is off already rather than running until 07 or sometimes even later; but 5025 Rebelde is on. Others: 6060 now in Spanish instead of English; 6145, 6100 and 6000 in English for now. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13740, March 4 at 1518, RHC is again S9+10 of dead air, or JBM, while 13700 is S9+20 of good modulation and fails to produce any spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1520, March 4 at 0341 UT, KOKC is off, tnx to tip from Paul Walker; thought this might clear for longtime cheater KOLM in MN, but no sign of it now, rather a heavy jumble of much weaker signals. Paul said it would be only briefly for some tower maintenance. By 0343 I am hearing a weak talkshow with YL host, roughly NW/SE and gradually fading in stronger. This is apparently KOKC on again already, in `The Dana Show` as scheduled. Maybe they were axually turning the power level up. Paul also said it came back but went off again, after I quit (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU. 5980, March 3 at 2350, JBA carrier from Radio Chaski under Cuban jamming against nothing else, until autocutoff at 2352:11.5*, which is 16 seconds earlier than last check Feb 24 until 2352:27.5* which was 8 days ago, or averaging exactly 2.0 seconds per noctem, which as I previously calculated was the long-term average as well. If their timer is not reset (originally for 2400*?), by March 29, 26 days from now, will be 52 seconds earlier, or 2351:19.5*. But that will probably be the end of our current tracking, as in A-20, Radio Martí is expected to resume 5980 all the way from 22 to 03 UT, and with heavier jamming to be sure (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. Anomalies continue with RRI, lacking the Romanian service at 01-03 UT on any frequency, instead, UT March 4: At 0150: 5910 and 7410 off; 6130 & 7325 in English At 0203: 5910 and 7325 off, 6130 & 7410 in French Strange they swapped 7325 & 7410 between English and French, almost making me doubt my logging as accurate; what next? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Tue March 3 at 2308, REE is on, VG with music but Spanish announcements since it`s not M/W/F, the only days for English. OTOH, off the air today English from TURKEY, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, March 3 at 2307, another day OFF for VOT English which would have been to us. But SPAIN, q.v. is on today altho not in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 4102+CW, March 4 at 0716 UT, ``W`` windy beacon JBA, first time in a long time after frequent chex at night. Also some dits and other letters/numbers, something to do with battery power or other characteristix of the installation. Definitely on plus side tho too weak to measure accurately, altho there was recently a report of it on the minus side of 4102. Somewhere in the USA SW desert. Steve McGreevy located and photographed this 19 years ago and says the FCC tolerates it, yet the precise location is not being revealed: http://www.auroralchorus.com/4095-5-kHz_DF_and_visit_to_the_WIND-BEACON_Spring-2001-SPMandEDH.jpg Enlarge them and see an itty bitty anemometer atop a rock outcrop, a small solar panel, and a dipole antenna. There is a huge amount of other great info on his website. 2097.3-CW, Mar 4 at 0720 UT, no signal from ``A` single-letter beacon while `W` etc. is audible (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13555-CW, March 4 at 1516, HIFER beacon WV in West Virginia is JBA, while K6FRC on 13565-CW from California is noticeably stronger; but neither ever heard later in the day or at night. And what about all the other beacons LWCA lists on the 13550-13570 ISM band? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2023 monitoring: confirmed Wed Mar 4 at 2100 on WRMI 7780, only poor via UTwente, with some lite SSB? ACI. Following two Zanotti IDs at 2058 and 2059. Next: 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non?]. 9330, March 4 at 1903, WBCQ WLCR in Arabic on 81 degree beam, only S5-S7 if really 500 kW, but also with a low audible heterodyne as if from a second station on a slightly different frequency. Nothing else is ever scheduled here except Cuban spynumbers 4 nights a week at 0700, certainly not now. Maybe a WBCQ defect, or old transmitter also on? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WTWW still not on at 0205 UT Wed Mar 4, when the ham show would normally be on 5085. {and still off at 0317} (The competing ham show on WBCQ 5130 is running.) Power outage and/or tornado damage? Anyone know or can inquire? Wikipedia reports: ``In Lebanon, many homes and businesses suffered considerable damage, including Walmart and Lowe's. The Wilson County Fairgrounds was impacted as the tornado moved east out of town and continued along the interstate to Smith County, producing EF1-type damage in the Tuckers Crossroads, Grant, and New Middleton communities.`` Then I write to Doug Smith of W9WI.com: ``Hi Doug, Sure hope you and yours are OK! And eventually you can fill us in on the impact to broadcast stations? (SW: WTWW Lebanon has not been heard. It should be on 5085 at least, tonight). 73, Glenn`` Doug replies: ``Thanks! - Yep, I'm fine, except for sleep deprivation :) I'm located in the western part of the city -- the tornado formed roughly eight miles to the northeast. It ripped up an airport about two miles north of my workplace -- but didn't even break sticks off the trees at work. I believe WHTN TV 39 is off but best I can tell everything else is on. It did come awfully close to the AM 900/1490 tower in Lebanon but I'm told the stations are still on. Haven't had an opportunity to scan myself. I suspect there are still massive power outages in Lebanon/Wilson County. The folks behind WTWW are pretty active on social media -- and conspicuously absent today. I suspect it's just a lack of power`` Further chex of WTWW frequencies find no signals: 0514, 1904 UT March 4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VIETNAM. After finding 11980 labeled harmonic in EiBi for China via CUBA, q.v.
