Glenn Hauser logs March 13-14, 2020  View Printable Version
Saturday, March 14 2020

Logs
** GUATEMALA [and non]. 4055, continuing postal discussion:

Vince Ferme, Ottawa ON, replies: ``I remember when this was announced.
It likely went to the UPU as well. In this case, any competent postal
service would not accept this piece of mail.

Now, check the following links, nothing newer, so the current
situation is anybody's guess:

https://www.canadapost.ca/web/en/blogs/announcements/details.page?article=2017/10/05/guatemala&cattype=announcements&cat=updates

https://www.canadapost.ca/web/en/blogs/announcements/details.page?article=2018/11/06/mail_and_parcel_serv&cattype=announcements&cat=updates

Service on paper does not mean service in reality. The mailbags may
all be ending in a paper recycling facility in Guatemala City.
Regards, Vince, Ottawa, ON``

And from Leonardo Santiago, Mérida, Venezuela:

Hi Glenn, in a previous contact with Dr. Madrid at the end of 2019, he
told me the same thing; they cannot send out any postal correspondence
due to the lack of postal services in Guatemala since about a couple
of years (as far as I can remember). In fact, he sent me a scanned QSL
card instead of a printed one along various e-souvenirs for an
e-report on Radio Truth.

You also asked if there was another country in the world with a
similar situation, and I wanted to add my country. Venezuela is facing
a similar problem with the national public postal service known as
IPOSTEL, standing for Instituto Postal Telegráfico.

It happens that they are unable to send letters and packages out, but
they are handing out what enters to the country only. According to
them, it is due to the lack of transport, car parts and lack of
gasoline (this is what they have told me in my recent visits to the
local post office).

Notwithstanding, although dxer Jorge Medina in Punto Fijo, Falcon,
told me that he was receiving some QSLs in November last year, I sadly
say that I personally haven't received anything yet, although many
QSLs and packages were announced to me via e-mail even since June the
2019.

So, just in case somebody is reporting a radio station from Venezuela
attempting a QSL verification, my recommendation is to add his e-mail
address or WhatsApp contact for a more probable answer, although many
stations can be contacted via FB or e-mail. 73s, Leonardo Santiago,
Mérida, Venezuela``

Also, some extraneous punxuation dysfunxionalized URLs in Ron Howard`s
previous report; fixed:

https://www.lonelyplanet.com/guatemala/post

US Postal Service website currently shows service to Guatemala.
https://postcalc.usps.com/

Online I noted: "Effective April 6, 2019, the U.S. Postal Service™
restored mail service to Guatemala."

Please do not attach any punxuation, like () or periods, to URLs

** U S A. 7490.20V down to 7490.19V to 7490.18V during the hour, 2358
UT Friday March 13 to 0100 UT Saturday March 14, WBCQ at first closing
by the FKB gospel-huxter referring us to his further broadcasts,
Saturday 9-9:30 pm on WINB 9625 [sic], and 8-9 pm [zone?] on WWRB
3215. This is the guy who phones in his show in real time.

5130 never comes on tonight, but I am listening to 7490V direct on SW,
not webcast. At 0000 except for a few beeps, dead air until 0102:35
join in progress the end of ``William Tell Overture`` theme with time
for only one final interjexion, ``pot roast``, on `Allan and Angela
Weiner Worldwide`. He starts wondering how long they`ve been ``off the
air``. Referring to preceding gap, or ``has it been 3 months since the
last live show?`` Says interrupted hiatus because of ``craziness``,
i.e. run on toilet paper, on and on about that.

It`s God`s will to unfurl these particles visible only through an
electron microscope. ``God help us if we had any other president.``
He`s already been taking calls including annoying Freddie. ``It`s hot
in Florida; Angela likes to go around half-nekkid all the time.``
Finally at 0030 confirms it`s the 13th of March, YOOL 2020. Reads an
opinion piece by an anti-socialist college student who thinks the
Mainstream Media are brainwashing younger generation, until 0043. 0058
benedixion thanking God for something, again cut off incomplete at
0059:45, no Amen, by automation switch to canned ID and into Hal
Turner show right on time 0100. [see also WRMI: 5800]

Here`s John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's AAWWW --- show started a bit
over two minutes late this evening on 7490. There was no signal on
5130. Allan and Angela in the studio in Fla. Says they decided to do a
show because of all the craziness in the world. Opens with talk of the
Corona Virus and the shortage of toilet paper. Phone call at 0006 from
the April Time Lady which generates more toilet paper talk. Phone call
at 0011 from Freddie and more toilet paper talk.

Then a serious talk about the virus and other Corona types. Stressed
that the manufacture of medicines should be brought back to the US
instead of overseas. Long reading of an inspirational paper forwarded
to the station.

We are reassured several times that WBCQ will continue on for us no
matter what happens. Several spot checks during the first forty-five
minutes of the program never found a signal on 5130. Allan did say
that in the near future 6160 and 3265 would be returning to the air
with programming. Reading of emails at 0055. Closing prayer at 0058.
Program was off the air at 0100 in the middle of the closing prayer.
Other than the mention of 6160 and 3265 there was no station info this
evening. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5800, UT Sat Mar 14 at 0100, this WRMI is starting `Hal
Turner` show // much stronger 9455, and also // WBCQ 7490v, but thus
abolishing RAE relay in Spanish. No, it was not shifted to the
previous hour as SMTV was still on 5800 past 0000. Is it somewhere
else on schedule now? The transmission grid still shows RAE [Spanish]
at 0100 on 5800 from System H; but the H grid only shows Alameda and
Wavescan. It does show RAE Spanish at 22-23 M-F on System D 5010: I
have assumed this was long outdated info but have not deconfirmed it
lately. Note that in previous report, Taiwan is scheduled to
experiment with Spanish on WRMI 5800, at 0100-0130 UT March 16-17-18.

9395, UT Sat Mar 14 at 0110, I`m trying to tell whether Argentina in
English is now here one hour earlier, but direct and via numerous
remotes tried, just too weak to be sure. And why is this so much
weaker than Turner on 9455 if both are on same azimuth 355; not same
powers? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, still off the air March 13 at 2120 & 2155, but *2200
RHC on weakly direct in French. Via Bogotá KiwiSDR, in Portuguese
before 2300, 2300 switch to English, first item about someone killed
near the RHC studios. Sufficient but not super reception, while //
5040 is not making it there at all. Somethng`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUATEMALA. Re TGAV announcing a postal address on 4055: So I wonder
what happen if a North American send p-mail to P O Box 5. Is it
intercepted and returned before it go there? Or just vanish, along
with any r.p. enclosed. Someone must have tried it, perhaps unaware of
the ban.

Is there any other country in the world which has dispensed with
postal service??

Harold Sellers, Vernon BC, Canada replies: ``I was in Guatemala in
January. The people there told me that there has been no postal
service for a number of years. If important documents have to come in
or go out of the country, private courier companies must be used.``

And Ron Howard, Asilomar State Beach, CA replies on the WOR iog:

Hi Glenn, Curious situation with Guatemala mail. Found this online:

"The privatised Guatemalan postal service is currently suspended, due
to a years-long contract dispute with the government. For the time
being, the only option for sending or receiving mail / packages is
through an international courier. FedEx, UPS and DHL all operate in
Guatemala."
https://www.lonelyplanet.com/guatemala/post.

US Postal Service website currently shows service to Guatemala.
https://postcalc.usps.com/

Online I noted: "Effective April 6, 2019, the U.S. Postal Service™
restored mail service to Guatemala."

Glenn Hauser logs March 12-13, 2020  View Printable Version
Friday, March 13 2020

Logs
** CANADA. 2598-USB, March 12 at 0616, YL in French marine weather,
poor, at a time when nothing is supposed to be active among the NL
stations.

2749-USB, March 12 at 0616, another collision between Canadian coast
guard stations, and again at a time unscheduled for any of them in the
Nova Scotia-Quebec area. Better signals than 2598. Same RoboYL voice,
at first one in English, the other in French, 0619 both in French.
Almost every sentence ends before a pause with `vendredi soir`` =
Friday evening. Isn`t anyone paying attention at CCG? Are no mariners
complaining to them about this? By 0621, just one is on, and at 0627
in English (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA. 6010, March 13 after 0000 UT and recheck 0320, still no
signal again from Alcaraván Radio, or the Voice of Thy Conscience
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, March 12 at 0014, RHC is S9+20 but JBM and suptorted in
English, also some Spanish crosstalk; then English mod faded up a bit,
and it`s // clear undermodulated English on 6145, S9+20. Last night
RHC seemed to be starting the two English frequencies around 0100 but
tonight evidently they are trying for 0000. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6010v, March 12 at 0020, trying for COLOMBIA, I have a JBA
signal which is wobbling, perhaps caused by Doppler flutter, or two
stations slightly apart beating, one of them unstable. A slight peak
sounds like Chinese; or is it Spanish? Not Portuguese. Nothing else is
scheduled at this time but BRAZIL. Then I remember a previous finding:
another Cuban leapfrog mixing product of 5990 over 6000 another 10 kHz
beyond. At 0035 on second radio I can CONFIRM // audio 6010 and 5990,
so that`s exactly what it is now. The fulcrum RHC frequency 6000 has
to be on air at same time, and so it is tonight with undermodulated
English. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF
RADIO 2025)

** CUBA. 13780, March 12 at 1352, RHC here ex-13740; change or
mistake? Have used 13780 before; no obvious reason to move back and
forth. By 1437, 13780 is off. Still on 13700, spurless. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, March 12 at 2255, RHC in Brazuguese, and 2300 into
English. Finally four days after the imposition of yanqui-inspired
DST, RHC have found this transmission, moved one UT hour *later*
instead of logical earlier, ex-2200. Now probably at 2200 is French
ex-2100. 11880 was back on air yesterday but in Spanish before and
after 2300. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EAST TURKISTAN. 13570, March 12 at 1353, poor signal in French; CRI
via Kashi/Kashgar at 1200-1357. Not usually audible here on the edge
of the ISM band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUATEMALA. 4055, March 12 at 0604, Radio Truth signing off in
English requesting reports to PO Box 5, Chiquimula, address! Then same
in German. Yet Dr Madrid has said over and over that there is no
postal service in Guatemala, e-mail only, certainly for outgoing
eQSLs. Is there postal or isn`t there? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU. 5980, March 12 at 2351, another Chaski-check finds JBA
carrier autocutoff at 2351:53.5*, which is 18 seconds earlier than
last check 9 days ago, March 3 at 2352:11.5*, i.e. right on the mark
of 2.0 seconds each. Not much jamming with which to contend this time
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2025 contents: Antarctica,
Australia, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Ethiopia non, Guinea,
Ireland, Italy non, Korea South, México, Monaco non, North America,
Oman, Perú, Romania, Scotland non, Taiwan non, Turkey, USA, Vanuatu;

** U S A. 5935, March 12 at 0602, S9+40 of dead air from WWCR,
certainly longer than necessary for a cigar puff, but DGS has resumed
by 0622. Meanwhile, 5890 was off, 4840 & 3215 nominal with TOMBS
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15610, March 12 at 1858, weak open carrier and not sure of
any modulation after 1900, but WEWN is back on proper day channel
instead of night channel 9385, where heard yesterday after 1900 but
not now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15215, March 12 at 1356, S4-S5 open carrier with
flutter, soon off at 1357*. No clues in the schedules (Glenn Hauser,
