Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs March 20-21, 2020

CUBA. 13620 & 13860, March 20 at 1401, RHC S1 JBA as leapfrog
mixing products of 13700 & 13780, another 80 kHz beyond in both
direxions; while no plain ole FMish spurblobs at all are emanating out
of 13700.

By 1403, 13780 has dropped to dead air at S9+30 while 13700 is still
modulating S9+40, reducing what little audio croak out of the `frogs.
By 1418, however, 13780 dead air has some just-barely modulation.

BTW, this proves that 13700 & 13780 are now from the same transmitter
site. Despite Aoki showing 13700 Bauta, not caught up with new 13780
but had ex-13740 at Bejucal. EiBi doesn`t list either 13740 or 13780,
but 13700 as b for Bauta. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

U S A. 5130, March 20 at 2351, this WBCQ is already on for music,
so should also be on for the next hour of `Allan and Angela, Angela
and Allan, Worldwide` as well at 7490.17 now with the FKB gospel
huxter phoner.

7490.17, UT Sat March 21 at 0000, WBCQ `A&AA&AWWW` gets off to usual
rough start with pause, WTO theme interrupted, but again they`re live
from Deland of Fla, ``Studio Numero Nine``, delaying plan to return to
Maine and do some transmitter work; only a few minutes into confirming
date as 20 March YOOL 2020. Trouble is, they immediately start talking
about COVID 19, which I`ve had enough of already all week+ from the
major media; and I hardly need to hear his pious take on it being
godswill, and faith will get us thru it.

Recheck at 0050, drifted down to 7490.05 as reading 1710 pirate log
from new FRW just out; then some e-mails and benedixion. (I believe
John Carver has computer problems again so no version from him, at
least not yet. If anyone heard any significant WBCQ info about
programming, technical, future plans, etc., do tell.) (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

Logs
** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, UT Sat March 21 at 0100, RAE in English via
WRMI: no news, whole program about a rock group, Almendra, on the
exact 50th anniversary of their album. But that was in January 1970,
so evidently a 2-month-old program repeated to fill, because:

``Argentina: "RAE ARGENTINA AL MUNDO --- INFORMACIÓN IMPORTANTE
https://www.radionacional.com.ar/rae-nueva-web/
undated (via Dr Hansjoerg Biener 20 March 2020)``

My reply: ``So like Spain and probably more to come -- replacing
external services with domestic programming. OK if this is really
necessary due to workplace environments, etc. Doing away with foreign
language services does NOT improve the situation, as their rationale
implies, diminishing contact with the rest of the world. Glenn``

The ``Friday`` show should have included their DX Actuality program.
Still no sign of RAE Spanish even if a domestic relay: see USA for
another full survey of WRMI 0100-0300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 218-MCW kHz, March 20 at 0610, dash and RL, ND beacon of
975 watts at Red Lake, Ontario.

223-MCW kHz, March 20 at 0611, dash and YYW, ND beacon of 1000 watts
at Armstrong, Ontario.

245-MCW kHz, March 20 at 0612, dash and YZE, ND beacon of 1000 watts
at Gore Bay, Ontario.

None new here but pleased to be able to copy at least these hi-power
ones vs all the storm and line noise, worse at the lower end of the
LWB band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA.

By 1418, however, 13780 dead air has some just-barely modulation.

but 13700 as b for Bauta. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. RF 25, turns out that KWTV OKC not decoding here was not
due to DX interference, but low tower. Reply, interchange with Jack
Mills, Director of Engineering, March 19:

``Mr Hauser: Sorry you had reception issues yesterday but two antennas
(old KFOR and old KOPX) were being removed from the tower we are
located on. I had to put our signal on an auxiliary antenna that is
lower on the tower. Attached is a pic of the work being done. We may
have some signal issues this month and maybe next month while this
work is being completed, but should be back to the main antenna each
evening. Jack Mills, Director of Engineering KWTV - KSBI``

Mr Mills, Many thanks for the reply and explanation. Will look forward
to everything back to normal. (And I suppose KSBI signal is not going
to be improved?) Glenn

``We did lose 1/3 of the transmitter last week. I just now got it back
up, it had High Voltage issues. Are you having better luck receiving
it?``

I assume you are referring here to KSBI 23? No, it is still at the
usual Bad level, insufficient. KWTV 25 however is back in solid; as of
noon Friday, and I think also last night (Glenn Hauser, Enid, March
20, via WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, March 20 at 2259, TRT IS fair-poor but averaging S9,
2300 opening English after timesignal which this time is 3.5 rather
than 1.5 seconds late compared to WWV. Something`s always inaccurate
at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2026 monitoring. Confirmed first
north/west hemisphere SW broadcast, Friday March 20 at 2200 on WRMI

7490.17, UT Sat March 21 at 0000, WBCQ `A&AA&AWWW` gets off to usual

UNIDENTIFIED. 9294-9320 approx., March 20 at 0605, wideband
multi-carrier ute whine of some sort, S9, apparently not blocking any
broadcasters around here. Heard once before recently; rather like we
used to find around 17450 in the daytime. Ideas?

And this from *2017y*, 3+ years ago:

``UNIDENTIFIED. 9258-9272, Feb 1 at 0444 and still 0457, S9 multi-
carrier ringing sound producing a single hi-pitched tone when tuned in
AM, centered on the only WINB frequency, 9265, which is normally off
the air by now. What in the world? Are they testing something new, or
is this something else?

Another check for this 25 hours later, Feb 2 at 0523, not heard.

9265, Thu Feb 2 at 1302, there it is again at totally different
daypart, whine at S9+10. If this were Sunday, WINB would be on
already. Will be interesting to see whether this ever QRM WINB during
its normal schedule. Still going at 1420 past 1442 during which I try
to locate the carrier peaks on the hi side at least, approx. 9265.5,
9266.1, 9266.8, 9267.5, 9268.2, 9268.8, 9269.4, 9270.1, 9270.7,
9271.3. Then I pull out the keyboard and find a close match at E above
hi C = 659 Hz, within a very few Hz of that. Any ideas what and whence
this is? It`s similar to some others I have heard, such as circa 17450

modulating S9+40, reducing what little audio croak out of the `frogs.

If anyone heard any significant WBCQ info about
programming, technical, future plans, etc., do tell.) (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
