Glenn Hauser logs September 4-5, 2020 |

Saturday, September 05 2020
** NORTH AMERICA. 5060v, Sept 4 at 0035 while monitoring WBCQ, I see a note on the ODXA iog, from John Hudak, Dundas, ON, ``Pirate station WDOG is on 5060 kHz USB right now as I write this - 0027 UT Sept. 5, 2020 (8:27 p.m. EDT Fri. Sept. 4). Fairly good signal, playing various rock and pop songs. Frequent ID's between songs and sound of dog barking.``
So I switch one of the Rochester SDRs to 5060 and there it is with rock music? More like noise and I don`t really recognize any musix or barx. Synch indicates frequency fluxuating 5060.7 to 5061.6; still there past 0119 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. Re 780 KSPI having a 1969y ``PSA`` from FCC, and what does it stand for? Bob Biermann, FL, explains on the WOR iog: ``In FCC jargon, PSA means presunrise authority, which is generally 500 watts, though sometimes less, beginning at 6:AM local time. PPSA is partial presunrise authority. An example of PPSA would be protecting a station toward east until sunrise at the protected station's location. PSSA is post sunset authority which may include multiple lower powers levels.)`` (Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Sept 4 at 2200 when REE should be in M/W/F English, only dead air of S9+10/20. Also open carrier on 11940. 2203 checking at UTwente, 9690 open carrier with heavy ACI from 9685 Chinese music; 11940 & 11670 & 12030 all with dead air except for some rapid clicking which is more audible on each if offtuned 1 or 2 kHz from center carriers ---- and not heard elsewhere on bands so I conclude that is coming out of the Noblejas transmitters rather than QRM or something local at the SDR. Recheck here a sesquihour later at 2333, 11940 & 9690 are still on unmodulated, the latter registering S9+20/30 of wastage. A few days ago someone enquired whether REE English had been canceled but I can`t find it now; nor had I been checking every alternate weekday. Tnx anyway for lessening competition against WOR at same time on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, Friday Sept 4 at 2200, no signal here from VOT English for us, just NSS RTTY. Neither at UTwente checked at 2203 and beyond. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. Tnx anyway for lessening competition against WOR at same time on 9955 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2050 monitoring: confirmed Friday Sept 4 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, S9 direct and no jamming; at 2219 checked at TWR Bonaire where it`s S9+10. Also poorly audible at UTwente where it`s way off-target. Also confirmed UT Saturday Sept 5 at 0130 on WRMI 9955, S9+10/20 direct, no jamming; 7780 S9+10 but much more noisy. As usual better via UTwente SDR where it`s aimed. At Rochester 9955 is better than 7780. Next: 1300 UT Saturday WRMI 15770 to NE 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM 2300 UT Saturday WRMI 7780 to NE 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0400] 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7730 to WNW 0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 5800-NEW to SSE 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 or 6160v to WSW 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 5800 NEW to SSE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Financial support may be sent via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com - not necessarily US funds as PP will convert One may also contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA (Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** U S A. 7490.1 & 6159.9 & 5130: UT Sat Sept 5 at 0000, I start monitoring `AAAWWW` on WBCQ direct. On 7490 the g.h. who thinx he`s later on 9625 from WINB is closing late, so WBCQ ID and WTO overlaps mixing with him. 5130 joins WTO slightly later. 6160 which has been in `Old Tyme Radio` at 0001 is playing hi-pitched IS, and other music; 0002 still not WTO, nor at 0004. 7490 is quite noisy, so I move to its webcast, but miss a minute or two of what`s being said. 1) Angela is beautiful; 2) lamenting a friend, Jim, who has died, not clear of what, accident? Later mentions last name Lerner, a visiting radio/TV engineer. At 0010 says ``6160 is not on`` --- well, it has been but not with this show; he thinx ``stupid remote control shut it off at 8 o`clock``. 5130 & 7490 are also on. It`s been bad week, besides losing Jim, personnel problems. 0013 says 6160 is back up, and gets into politix/religitix, denouncing Pelosi et al. repeatedly as ``dickheads``. 0019 pause and says there has just been a power outage; thinx his yelling axually blew 5130 & 6160 off the air by overmodulating! Puts on music fill to go out and restart them. I quickly check Rochester SDR and indeed 5 & 6 are off while 7 is still on. 0023 says 6160 is back on, but not 5130 which has 15-year-old tubes needing replacing. May have to move all 5130 programming to 6160, which was retubed a year ago. PA final tubes can be very expensive, a TH576 for the 500 kW transmitter is available new from Thalès for $ 189K, as he just priced it; weighs 135 lb, more than Angela`s 105, water-cooled. A rebuilt one would cost only $ 100K. Why charge so much? Not that complicated; because they can, as only source. For a 50 kW transmitter would cost only $ 10K, an ACX35000; or $ 6-7K rebuilt. Wishes someone would donate enough $ $ to fix them up. Brother Stair provides some income, but ``is not paying a quarter of what he should be``, likewise other clients. 0029 into COVID-19; 0030 interrupted by a call, tells them to call back in an hour. That was about his other business, antique auto sales; see the HCCA website for his items, Horseless Carriage Club of America. On to nutrition discussion, obesity adding risk for COVID-19; both A & A are thin; he eats some meat such as plain hamburgers, she does not. Both eat veggies and so should everyone so their shit is green. 0044 caller from Toronto; 0046 finally reveals it`s 4th of September, YOOL 2020 and now on 7490 & 6160. 0048 call from Philadelphia wondering if tubes are guaranteed, and for how long. 0050 skims some Free Radio Weekly items just published including Nicaragua 8989 but not mentioning who reported it -- me. Resumes also mentioning FRSH, but balks at reading frequencies to 3 decimal places as I reported. 0057.5 mentions WHRI acquisition is still in transition period. Does not explain how he can pay $ 1.25 million for that yet can`t afford new tubes for Classic WBCQ Monticello. Benedixion and off just in time for 0100 Hal Turner. Here`s John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's show started on time on 7490 and 5130. 6160 was carrying music. Allan and Angela in the studio. Allan opens with how much he loves looking at Angela. Then into news of a friend of everyone at the station who had fallen from a radio tower, not at WBCQ. Allan mentioned that he was in the process of rebuilding transmitter number one and had been for a month now. Allan announced that 6160 wasn't running and it was probably a computer problem. Then he announced that it was now up and running the program. Then stated that if any BLM group tried to shut down the station they would be met with guns. Back to his friend, he said it was a shame that he had to die when there were so many other people in this country that should die instead. Then a very mini rant about Biden, Pelosi, Cortez and a few others. At 0018, 5130 went down and I retuned to 7490 in time to hear Allan announce that both 5130 and 6160 had gone down hard. He put some music on and went out to see if he could get them going. Allan was back at 0022 saying that 6160 was back up but 5130 was hopeless and probably needed to be retubed and that they may have to move 5130 programming to 6160. Said he would work on it late and make a decision then. He said all the tubes needed to be replaced and he was throwing around prices of a hundred thousand to a hundred and ninety thousand per tube. He mentioned that the programmers at the station should be paying three times more for airtime than they were now on the classic WBCQ. He asked for someone to send him a couple million dollars so he could fix all the transmitters. Then on to obesity and the epidemic of overeating in this country and how it contributed to Covid deaths. Then into general food talk. Phone call at 0043 from Canada with a gentleman suggesting that the station add a program about vegan foods. Allan and Angela thought it was a great idea. Another phone call at 0048 asking for verification of the tube prices that Allan mentioned earlier and asked if the tubes included a warranty. Reading of emails at 0050 starting with a reading of the Free Radio Weekly. Third email was the newest version of the Free Radio Weekly and he read through that one also. Another mention about buying WHRI and how wonderful it would be and how important to preserve all these radio stations but no real information about it. Closing prayer at 0058 and off the air at 0100. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0334 UT September 5 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** CUBA. 9790, Sept 4 at 0444, CRI Cantonese relay is S9+50! but overmodulated/distorted compensating for dead air the last time I checked it. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 650, Sept 4 at 1200, Radio 65, XETNT Los Mochis, Sinaloa starting its morning news show with full ID from Grupo Chávez, fair signal; and weaker, QRMed 610 XEGS Guasave has just joined in // after separate music before the hour. Welcoming us to viernes, fin de semana. But first, some really frantic banda music to wake us up. 1207 down to business with ``avances de información`` = headlines, weather info, lack of lluvias, 1210 fading out. LSR here was 1206. Good to be hearing these again. 700, another NW Mexican has not quite faded out by 1200, Spanish either XEGD Parral, Chihua2 or XEETCH, Etchojoa, Sonora; and signs of 870 XETAR, Guachochi, Chihua2. Need earlier selfarising and/or later sunrising. Tim Hall`s new IRCA Mexican Log notes that official IFT info does not include XETNT and XEGD, but were reconfirmed still active on MW as of last year (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 275-MCW kHz, Sept 4 at 0422 UT, ND beacon GUY, which is 25 watts from Guymon. An earlier obs not logged found them about equal and timed so alternating nicely (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 780 kHz, Sept 4 at 1135 UT, strong rock music looping toward Stillwater, i.e. KSPI 250-watt daytimer; 1138 ``It`s Pete`` and more music. Checking since Tim Hall`s huge Final Report of his Border Inn NV/UT DXpedition last October included an unID on 780: ``10/26 1116 - "Strong Enough" by Sheryl Crow (successfully identified by SoundHound app) on ENE wire. Not sure who this would be; a whiny 90s pop tune doesn't fit KAZM's occasional overnight oldies show. It might fit on KSPI or possibly WPTN, but neither of those stations should be on at this hour`` I told him, ``780 unID, seems like I have heard KSPI before 7 am CDT, tho am rarely awake then -- maybe they are coming on at 11 UT = 6 am CDT. Will try to check. No, I can`t find any FCC record of psra.`` At FCC AM Query I look thru ancient history cards concerning KSPI. http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/prod/cdbs/forms/prod/getimportletter_exh.cgi?import_letter_id=44676 Original CP in August 1946 was for 840, but changed by November to 780. In 1949, a Special Service Authorization to operate from 6 am to 7:30 pm CST --- was denied. In 1950 they tried for dual-frequency operation, switching to 790 at night with 500 watts direxional, but that was dismissed. In 1953 applied to move to 1490 unlimited hours, but later withdrew. On 9-30-69 there was a telegram about a ``PSA`` at 250 watts to protect WBBM. Does that mean pre-sunrise, post-sunset, or both?? And is that the basis for starting by 6 am now? No ID breaks are built-in to the Overcomer feed, but 0459 seems to cut away, maybe local ID but uncopyable. 0500 Fox `News` but can`t be certain same station. TOM website has redesigned its Radio Log starting with SW stations in table format, but it`s never 100% accurate: https://overcomerministry.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Radio-Log.pdf Only 5 AM stations remain at the bottom, no more WCKY but still WWVA; and two of them are shown for the Sabbath service only, Sat 9-11 am CDT, including one on 730: KQPN 730 West Memphis AR. But this is certainly not when I am hearing it. I can`t find a website for itself, but searching indicates it`s Yahoo Sports Radio, and owned by F. W. Robberts, i.e. same as WMQM and WWCR! There is streaming link: https://tunein.com/radio/KQPN-730-s35522/ which confirms at this time it`s not sports at all but 0515 UT with: Brother Scare! KQPN is U4, 1/1 kW with a non-major lobe thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1147, 1157, 1173, 1183 kHz, Sept 4 at 0437, heavy IBOC noise peaks as KSL 1160 SLC and KFAQ 1170 Tulsa fight it out. I daresay nowhere else among the `clear` channels audible here is there any such crap remaining (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1370, still no sign of KGNO Dodge City KS. I need a better excuse to drive all the way to DC to investigate. Following up: consulting Tim Hall`s Final Report of last October`s Border Inn NV/UT DXpedition, I see among hundreds of logs including several on 1370, there is none of KGNO, so I wrote him, ``I was looking to see whether you got KGNO Dodge City KS, which I suspect of being secretly off the air.`` Tim replies: ``KGNO was a regular catch at this location until at least 3 or 4 years ago (I don't recall exactly), but I haven't had a trace of them since, despite the fact that the channel is less crowded after some of the Mexican stations went off. I also suspect KGNO is off... or maybe just in extreme disrepair? Same with KLEY-1130, a station whose travails you have documented in recent years. I think the same can be said for some of the HPRN stations in Texas/Oklahoma/New Mexico. [High Plains Radio Network] has been consolidating operations for several years now, running the same programming on groups of 2 or 3 stations that used to have their own formats and staffs. I've been especially suspicious of KICA-980 [Clovis NM], which I have never heard, even on optimal sunset/sunrise dates/times, and even when KCLV-1240 and KSEL-1450 [Portales NM] have been nightly catches. Also in last October's recordings, I had no trace of KVOP-1090 [Plainview TX] at all, and they are usually a bit of a pest on several wires. HPRN has almost no web presence at this point, just a basic skeleton of a web site for all of their stations on one page. In contrast to the general state of HPRN stations, little KTAT-1570 [Frederick OK, eluding gh] was a nightly catch this year. They didn't put as big a dent in XERF as little KDDD-800 [Dumas TX] puts in XEROK, but there were several clear IDs audible in my recordings.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, Sept 4 at 1151-1159 UT on the R75 and E-W longwire, so no DFing: 567, 576, 693, 747, 828, 837, 882(2), 1089, 1098, 1107, 1116(2), 1125, 1134, 1161, 1224, 1242, 1278, 1521, 1611 kHz. At this time too much splash from 780 KSPI music to get 774, but earlier at 1139 on the PL-880 while checking KSPI, could detect 774 and looping NW = Japan. More Laramie, WY DX Logs With Audio! |

Friday, September 04 2020
KJRB 790 Spokane, WA made the 730 mile trip to Laramie, WY with its 84 watts on Wednesday September 2nd at 931pm mountain with "Rock Me Like a Hurricane".
Here's the audio and the signal gets pretty good right after the 20 second mark. Audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yTI-hxz3AVUsQX251q4--lDXyHqzQHm-/view?usp=sharing (per a conversation with the Stephens Media engineer, they filed a form 302 and this is what the night power will be) KNZZ 1100 Grand Junction, CO usually plasters my radio at night in Laramie, Wyoming but a few days ago, their signal was so weak, I had a hard time telling that Joe Pags and his female co host were on the same station and that allowed WZFG 1100 Dillworth, MN (Fargo) to sneak through.
Here's WZFG from 585 miles away from Wednesday September 2nd at 10:15pm mountain time with Alex Jones. Audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1AZAROIgILwY5j2WS-Y2mEZlRqrVjYPhd/view?usp=sharing KJJK-AM 1020 Fergus Falls, MN 370 Watts/2 towers at 585 miles away from me in Laramie, WY. Heard Thursday September 3rd at 928pm mountain with "Supalonely" by Benee ft. Gus Dapperton. . Audio: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u_SWP2ndFEBemfiE-eb8HyTPQosjwP22/view?usp=sharing KRPI 1550 Ferndale, WA has been heard here 975 miles away in Laramie, WY but it's 10kw/2 tower signal is never very good and it never pops in for very long. But, thankfully their south asian music stick out like a sore thumb on the radio dial and is pretty obvious. Here they are from Thursday September 3rd at 1049pm. The music is there, it's a little rough but it's there.
