WORLD OF RADIO HITLIST UPDATE

Hi Glenn, My latest Hitlist update.
https://www.w4uvh.net/hitlist.htm

1) Updated UTC offsets for New Zealand
2) France - RFI: Updated links (due to redesign of RFI website)
3) France - TDF: Updated link to TDF Transmission schedule for A20
4) Germany - MBR: Updated link to MBR Operational schedule for A20
5) New Zealand - RNZ: Relabelled RNZ International to read RNZ
Pacific

Unless there's a major change anywhere, the next update will be late
June. Best wishes and 73. Alan Roe, England, April 5

** CUBA [and non]. Further discussion on the IRCA iog about the 711
kHz carriers I have been reporting:

``What is being heard on 711 by east coast folks? Steve Ratzlaff Apr 2
#7576 --- Lately 711 and 891 are often equal strength hets. I only get
occasional traces of 711 audio, and lately not much more on 891. What
do you east coast folks normally hear on 711? Tnx. Steve in AZ``

``And, in Steve's case, as he was hearing Algeria on 891, maybe both
Cuba and Morocco? (though then there might be a subaudible heterodyne
as well. A late fade out time would eliminate Morocco, and MWoffsets
says that Morocco is a few Hertz low as well. The 711 that I see here
seems to be spot on channel. best wishes, Nick Hall-Patch, BC``

``Mauno_Ritola Apr 3 #7584 --- At 1525 Florida Perseus shows a carrier
on 711.001 kHz. Best regards, Mauno Ritola, Finland``

``Mark WA1ION Apr 3 #7587 --- Morocco (W. Sahara) in early (2300 UTC)
on east antenna with little on south antenna.

Cuban on both antennas later into the evening but better on south beam
not surprisingly. Cuba the only 711 post 0600 UT.

What anyone gets on 711 is a factor of time, location, propagation,
and antenna. I have not done precision frequency measurement on either
of the 711 signals recently though I suspect that Mauno will have all
the info here soon. Morocco (W. Sahara) used to be about 100 Hz high
but this is no longer the case. Mark Connelly, WA1ION | South
Yarmouth, MA | FN41vq`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, April 4 at 1917, RHC English is not distorted for a
change; a Jamaican loves Fidel. Distorted again next morning in
Spanish. Something`s usually wrong at RHC.

15140, April 5 at 1934, is OFF, only frequency scheduled during first
English hour of the day; 15370 is on, VG in French (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 13780 // 13700, the former with some hum, but no spurs
anywhere, Sunday April 5 at 1336, RHC `En Contacto` has just started.
This week it`s almost all Arnie talking about several subjects,
lickety-split pace tripping over his tongue and hard for me to follow,
while I can normally comprehend proper ``broadcast Spanish``.

Well-worn subject of his fascination with TTFD antennas resurges: they
are low-noise and good for T-E DX. Gives azimuths for English to N
America frequencies, 325 degrees on 6145, and couldn`t catch that for
6000. If so, 6145 should be heard a lot better here in the boresight.
Thought the YL announcer closing sounded like Marta Rios, but she
gives totally different strange name. 1348 finishes already, on to `En
Compañía del Doctor`, not topic-V but heart disease.

BTW, on the positive side, the current `Nova` on PBS is about a
possible immunotherapy cancer cure developed by Cuba; Americans
illegally go there for treatment (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11880, April 5 at 1358, S9+20 open carrier prior to CRI
relay, 1400 modulation comes up right on cue! CRI Plus opening with
news of China sending medical experts to help Philippines; somewhat
undermodulated but sufficient (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 11790.02 approx., April 5 at 1936, JBA talk. Only scheduled
is AWR in Fulfulde via ISS; not often so off-frequency (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-USB, April 5 at 0001, rock and at 0010 ``You
are listening to the Wireless --- [something]``. 0015, ``W-T-F Radio
Worldwide`` [just the abbr.; meaning We`re The Finest?]. 0024, ``our
regularly scheduled program to be repeated for the west coast``, more
dense music until off at 0031*. More:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65088.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 5165-AM, April 5 at 0003, S7-S9 undermodulated talk.
These say it`s X-FM relay also on two other frequencies:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,65084.15.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA [and non]. Doug Smith of W9WI.com replied March 30 on the
WTFDA Forum to my recent TVDX logs: 03-30-2020, 07:11 AM

``KSBI’s permanent antenna is at the same height as KWTV’s auxiliary
antenna. (I suspect it’s the same antenna) Because of their repack to
a significantly lower channel – 23 vs. 51 – they would have faced a
substantial power reduction. The FCC regards less power necessary to
achieve the same coverage on a lower channel. It appears KSBI chose to
take a height reduction instead. The channel 23 antenna is 331m above
average terrain; the channel 51 unit was 458m. Best I can tell this
change is permanent.

I would imagine the higher power yields a more interference-immune
signal for viewers in the immediate metropolitan OKC area, at the
expense of those of you a bit further away.

KOTV repacks in Phase 10. This begins May 2nd and runs through July
3rd. The coronavirus emergency has delayed some Phase 8 and 9 moves.
That’s likely to push back Phase 10, even if the virus is gone by
May.

KPXJ is on the KTBS tower (on “KTBS Road”…) just east of Mooringsport,
LA. {Mooringsport is NW of Shreveport near the TX border, about
halfway to Vivian - Enid distance 340 miles = 547 km}

Regarding Escape on KDCU 31.3, this network somewhat unexpectedly
changed its name to Court TV Mystery early this year. Both this
channel and “regular” Court TV originate from the same firm..

KQCW is moving to a shared tower east of Tulsa. It’s currently home to
KJRH-2, KOTV-6, KOED-11, and co-owned FM stations KWTU-88.7 &
KWGS-89.5.

The “Enid” RF 9 permit has been superseded by channel 20. Doug Smith``
Many tnx, Doug! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, April 4 not checked until 2247 to find zero VOT
signal, so probably another day off for English at 2200. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler.

[non]. As for the RTTY on 9830 which often runs past 2200, Zacharias
Liangas replies April 4: ``Hello, just to inform you that in this
frequency there is a FSK system called NAU from Isabela Puerto Rico
using standard baudot with 50 bd with FSK mode. I know that around 5
years ago the time I was listening to RTM on 9835, audible on local
nights here in Greece. Unfortunately there is no info on what is used
for`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WOR monitoring: Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria, reports:
Reception of World of Radio#2028 via WRMI-09 Okeechobee on April 4
1300-1330 on 15770 RMI 100 kW / 044 deg to WeEu English Sat, weak

Публикувано от Observer в 4:26 PM``.

Also confirmed UT Sunday April 5 at 0315 at midpoint on WA0RCR,
1860-AM, Wentzville MO, good via Peoria KiwiSDR, so started early
circa 0301. Next:

0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE
0130.5 UT Monday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 5800 to SSE [March 23 not 30; ??]
0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE
0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW
0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE
0900 UT Monday Unique Radio NSW 5045-USB or 3210
1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5800, April 5 at 0550, S9+10 open carrier, surely WRMI-10,
which nominally closes at 0200; why now? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, April 5 at 1445, WLCR via WBCQ-6 is off! Right at
Sunday-morning church-going time. What`s wrong?

9330, April 5 at 1930, WLCR is back on, poor, in Arabic?

That reminds me, HFCC A-20 registrations so some different frequencies
at certain hours, but has anyone axually heard them. I haven`t been
seeking directly, but no run-acrosses:

14-15 13590 English 300 degrees, only 250 kW;
15-19 15105 English 300 degrees, 250 kW;
19-20 12080 Spanish 76 degrees, 500 kW;
23-24 6195 Arabic, 81 degrees, 500 kW;
01-03 6195 Portuguese, 175 degrees, 500 kW;
Otherwise, 9330 at various angles. If not, we shall have to suspect
WBCQ be still unable to change away from 9330 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, UT Sun Apr 5 at 0030 check, WTWW-2 with `TONITO` in
progress (Theatre Organ not in the Ozarx), so I switch to $ tereo
webcast. 0052 mixed with music are growls, from a cat?! 0055 Bob Heil
wraps up saying it was guest organist Len playing, 0056 back to rock
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. Re my remark about getting TA carrier on 657 instead of IBOC
noise from WSCR Chicago, Tom Jasinski, Joliet replies April 4:
``Glenn: The IBOC for WSCR 670 and WBBM 780 has been off for over a
month now. Both stations now share the same tower. Tom Jasinski`` ---
that`s also good for TA on 684 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 5000+, by April 3, the FSK/RTTY QRM on the high side of
WWV, has gone away. Meanwhile, further discussion of it, first from
the MARE Tipsheet:

``Jamie Tolbert: I wonder if that’s the new stock exchange type
communications system that was on the 20m ham band last year; has to
do with the Chicago stock exchange. They didn’t seem to care they were
on 20m last year until someone told them about it.``

``Charles Gessner: I have been hearing it most of today. I started at
1630 UT-it was strong at my home in W.Pa. I then tried again at 0030
UT. It is still very strong. As said before someone has done a TDOA
direction finding study using online SDRs and determined that it was
on an azimuth northwards towards Chicago from Indiana. It is
continuous, that`s for sure. Oh well.``

And then on the WOR io group:
``Hmm. I just turned on my receiver here at 1425 UTC on Friday April
3rd, It appears that those FSK signals have disappeared. Strange how
that happened. I will check Facebook to see if anyone on the Short
Wave Listening group has any reports. I am hearing WWV on 5 MHz at a
solid S5 signal, with nothing else heard. 73 de Chuck W3ON Gessner``

``Whatever it was, it appears to be gone now at 1600 UTC on 3 April.
Early this morning, the signal reverted to a standard 850 Hz FSK
transmission, centered about 5.002 MHz, but I don’t hear it now in
upstate NY, or on any of the Kiwi network receivers that were
receiving it yesterday. Jim Barrett. Elmira NY``

``Apparently now solved but here’s a theory - Some years ago when I
was selling HF radios for commercial and government applications. We
had a customer that programmed one of their preset channels to exactly
10 MHz for receiving WWV for frequency calibration purposes. One day
there was a microprocessor glitch and the unit came up on on exactly
10 MHz and was key-down at 100W for several days. In those days the
FCC was a lot more active and tracked it down to the embarrassed
organization! Anyway, my theory is that something like that could have
happened here, this time to WWV on 5 MHz. Bob LaRose W6ACU San Diego``

THE BIG THREE FREQUENCY REFERENCES

now available for A-20. I recommend consulting them individually
rather than depending on aggregators which may be delayed:

http://www1.s2.starcat.ne.jp/ndxc/pc/nd/nxa20.zip
http://www.hfcc.org/data/a20/a20allx2.zip

EiBi also available in a sort by time:
http://www.eibispace.de/dx/bc-a20.txt
NDXC also pending direct Perseus less-detailed text version via:

HFCC also available by broadcasters and FMOs, time order via:
http://www.hfcc.org/data/a20/

** CUBA. 5025, April 4 at 0536, Radio Rebelde music is suptorted, as
it has been all evening, as often the case. Something`s always wrong
at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6145 & 6000, April 4 at 0534, RHC English equally weak and
just barely modulated, while // 6060 & 6100 are both much stronger and
well-modulated. 5040, last of The Cuban Five, is strong & loud enough,
but with constant squeal and mush.

Also, a JBA carrier on 6230, probably leapfrog mixing product of 6060
over 6145 another 85 kHz beyond. Something`s always wrong at RHC. BTW,
I am assuming that there is no longer an English hour at 07-08, tho
not awake that late to check; with only a fraxion of the Five
remaining on at 06-07 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, April 4 at 1526, RHC S9+10 but horribly distorted, as
this transmitter has been for many weeks now; have they no shame; or
no way to fix it? Or substitute another unit? Plenty are available
mid-day. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 255-MCW kHz, April 4 at 0549 UT, no signal from SW, the
25-watt NDB at nearby Stillwater, which had been one of our most
constantly reliable, day and night by groundwave. 341 kHz, EI, Enid
also remains gone. Ditto at midday 1800 UT; only ones audible are 350
RG OKC, which is sometimes missing; and much stronger 515 PN Ponca
City which is never missing but sometimes chripy (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SAIPAN [and non]. 11985.037, April 4 at 1531, JBA talk in Korean,
off frequency, immediately suggesting it`s USAGM Saipan, one of its
most off-capable sites, along with São Tomé. HFCC confirms Saipan,
A-20 now running 1500-1900.

9910.036, April 4 at 1537, another off-frequency Korean, bet it`s the
same. Not in HFCC of March 30 but yes in Aoki/NDXC April 4 as another
RFA Korean from Agignan Point MRA = SAIPAN at 1500-1700.

Altho transmitters might drift, you`d think there would be a simple
vernier ``fine tuning`` to adjust frequencies, if anyone cared.
Something`s always shifty at Saipan. One more:

11675, April 4 at 1534, Chinese with fast SAH from second transmitter.
Yep, Aoki has this as RFA SAIPAN, this hour only, *jammed by CNR1; and
we certainly know which one is askew without trying to separate them.
Next hour 16-17 in Uyghur for the brainwashed switches to Tinian,
probably not so off, or at least differing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9955, April 4 at 1536, WRMI dead air but it`s
just a pause in TOMBS, as this frequency has been extended on
Saturdays only until 1600 in order to diffuse the *live* Overcomer
Sabbath services, also running 1400-1600 on *nine* other WRMI
transmitters! Is he still inviting girls onstage to grope them? Hard
to tell on the radio, but BS may be confident he`s staying out of jail
as charges against him have still not been resolved. Sabbath? as if a
deity really cared which day it`s worshiped, weeks being totally
artificial human constructs; just as gods are (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 8764-USB, April 4 at 1540, robot male voice with marine
weather, nothing but seas in feet, winds in knots, forecasts thru next
Wednesday. This is a USCG frequency shared among NMO Honolulu, NMC
Point Reyes and NMN Chesapeake VA on a complex schedule, NMN starting
at 1530 per EiBi. Somewhat distorted but has been worse, poor S5-S8
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2028 monitoring: unavoidably awake
Saturday April 4 at 1130, confirmed on WRMI 9955, S9 with pulse
jamming. Slept thru Sat 1300 on WRMI 15770; awaiting Ivo`s report.

** U S A. 17775-, Saturday April 4 at 1524, no signal from KVOH, maybe
on but zero propagation. Trying to confirm where `Wavescan` is really
airing as scheduled. Recheck at 1800, certainly on now in
Saturday-only English, off-frequency minus (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
