Logs
** COLOMBIA? 4940, UT Oct 1 at 0059, anonymous mystery missionary
station is on again tonight, S8-S9 at Bonaire SDR, -3.8v Hz carrier,
YL in Spanish; 0500 still S9+5, animal SFX? 0610 direct now stronger
than Brasil 4885, hitting S9+20 vs high local line noise level of
S9+10: this has been growing lately all over the SW bands, while the
blobs every 360 kHz have gone away (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO
2054)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. Correxion: the cutoff time was 1757*, as
scheduled, not 1759* Fixed:

15410, Sept 30 at 1720, Eye Radio via Issoudun, FRANCE, good S9 signal
into UTwente SDR despite proximity; discussion with someone on phone
in presumed Juba Arabic about COVID-19, but at 1730 I realize it`s
heavily-accented English; better English by the studio host. Mention
there being a toll-free phone number about this, 22-22 ---? is that
all? 1738 back into language, 1740 bit of English, continues in and
out of English, apparently common parlance in the country. 1756 with
standard advice about the pandemic until chopped off air abruptly at
1757*, just as now scheduled. . . (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO
2054)

UNIDENTIFIED. 475.2 kHz, Oct 2 at 0624, looking for WA4SZE ham beacon,
but am hearing seemingly random CW but in repeating loop including 6X
which stands out; other letters, lots of A, E, T, N (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Oct 1 at 0614:
612, 684, 774, 837, 846(TP), 882(2), 1044, 1107(2), 1152, 1305(2)

New AM DX Logs From Laramie, WY  View Printable Version
Thursday, October 01 2020

Logs
KRFS-AM 1600 Superior, Nebraska. 44 Watts at 405 miles. At 101am mountain
Oct 1st, I had "The Middle" by Hailey Steinfeld, Zedd & Gray. KRFS-AM
doesn't stream but they seem to be the only logical choice.

KAHI-AM 950 Auburn, CA 5000 Watts/3 towers, 835 miles away. Heard with
"When Radio Was" old time radio programs, actually rising up quite nicely
against the usual very dominant KKSE Denver, CO

I also had KOGO 600 amd KABC 790 last night. KABC is VERY rare here. KOGO
isnt rare but not very common.

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-CUSB, Sept 30 from 1520 past 1540, no signal
at Brasil SDR from LRA-36 despite word sent to Manuel Méndez a few
hours earlier that they would be on this Wed at 14-16. Really on but
not propagating, off early, or not at all?

Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, then replies: ``I think despite they
announced it, there was no transmission today. Best 73,s``

And later, Horacio Nigro, Uruguay to the WOR iog: ``Bad weather at
location. The info was delivered from the own station on his Facebook
account, later today`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** COLOMBIA? 4940, Sept 30 at 0605, continued from last report,
anonymous mystery missionary station now heard direct, S9 vs storm
noise, with tropical music, Spanish talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Sept 30 at 0606, R. Rebelde at S9+10/20 and very
suptorted as often the case now. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SUDAN SOUTH [non]. 15410, Sept 30 at 1720, Eye Radio via Issoudun,
FRANCE, good S9 signal into UTwente SDR despite proximity; discussion
with someone on phone in presumed Juba Arabic about COVID-19, but at
1730 I realize it`s heavily-accented English; better English by the
studio host. Mention there being a toll-free phone number about this,
22-22 ---? is that all? 1738 back into language, 1740 bit of English,
continues in and out of English, apparently common parlance in the
country. 1756 with standard advice about the pandemic until chopped
off air abruptly at 1759*, just as now scheduled. Dr Hansjoerg Biener
had just reminded us that this extra COVID hour M-F after 16-17 UT
daily, as Ivo Ivanov had earlier reported, is now underway. Overall
are several other languages, maybe some of them now?
``Dinka/Nuer/Shilluk/Bari/Zande/Lutoho``.

HjB replied at 1729: ``Most of the programme up till now was in
English (recognizable/understandable to me). Maybe I should add that
whenever I check on Eye Radio I seem to come across English segments.
Maybe, at least for their short wave hours, the working language is
English. This morning, I came across the final quarter hour of their
regular programme. It was in English, and I think in some part, the
moderator just translated a part of this English segment into another
language. This afternoon, I started listening at 1620 and the
programme was in. English changing later to an African language.``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Sept 30 at 2205-2222+, VOT English to us at first is
good via UTwente, but then fading down; with the usual mini-features,
not including any `Letterbox` on yet another Wednesday (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. 475.4-MCW kHz, Sept 30 at 0614 UT, WA4SZE, ham beacon by
Dave Frantz at WWRB, Manchester TN, weak but at some peaks appears to
be with carrier A2 and not straight CW A1; measured with difficulty
due to other carriers in the area amid the 7-kHz-wide ``630m band``,
maybe other hams, including one momentary very strong spoiler (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2053 monitoring: confirmed Wed Sept 30 from
2100:17.5 on WBCQ 7490, poor S8-S9 vs high noise level. Next:
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

** COLOMBIA? 4940, Sept 30 at 0312, anonymous mystery missionary
station is on again, S8-S9+ via Bonaire SDR, signature carrier offset
-5v Hz, with `Lecciones de la Historia`, one of their regular shows
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA, 5081, Sept 29 at 2344, spurblob with F# tone, out of RHC
English 5040, and WTWW-2 is not on 5085 yet. Original simulcast on
7380 for Africa is still absent as has been for many weeks.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 6185-, Sept 29 at 2337, no signal from XEPPM, which is
normally running by 2300 and earlier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7570, Sept 29 at 2336, WRMI with non-TOMBS gospel huxter. I
was wondering what the new program `Challenge`` is about this hour,
and now we know (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. During Drumpf`s disastrous ``debate`` debacle with VP Biden,
Sept 30 at 0142 UT, I make a quick scan of major MW signals and find
quite a few of them carrying it, never synchronized with a TV channel
I am comparing it to, but with some notable exceptions besides music,
or sports-format outlets which could not be expected to cover this
game. IDs are assumed from usual dominators:

580 WIBW, 680 KFEQ, 690 KGGF, 700 WLW, 740 KRMG, 750 WSB, 760 WJR, 770
KKOB/WABC?, 780 WBBM, 820 WBAP, 840 WHAS, 850 KOA, 870 WWL, 890 WLS,
1000 KTOK, 1040 WHO, 1080 KRLD, 1110 KFAB, 1120 KMOX, 1160 KSL, 1170
KFAQ, 1200 WOAI, 1480 KQAM.

NOT carrying it: 650 WSM music, 670 WSCR sports, 810 WHB, 860 KKOW
music, 960 KGWA talk, 980 KMBZ talk, 1100 WTAM! even tho originating
in Cleveland, 1500 KSTP sports, 1520 KOKC talk, 1530 WCKY, 1640 KZLS
talk.

Oddities: 900 heard both in English and Spanish, apparently running
translation -- XEW?? Not enough signal to tell, auroral? 720 WGN, 830
WCCO, 1510 WLAC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
