Logs
** CHINA. 13020, May 17 at 1332, huge S9+20 CNR1 with Chinese talk,
not music as previously during this Sunday hour. Really a standout
with nothing else around this WOOB area; but encourages me to do full
bandscan for other jammers to Sound of Hope, 10-16 MHz:

13835, May 17 at 1338, CNR1 jammer at S5-S7 with echo; off by 1412

11440, May 17 at 1340, CNR1 jammer at S3-S5; no others above 10 MHz
this hour and this one also off by next check 1412. But see 11460:

After 1400 I resurvey 10-18 MHz way-out-of-band areas:

13020, May 17 at 1412, instead of bigsig last hour, now a JBA carrier,
tremendous change in jamming or maybe really SOH trace now

11460, May 17 at 1413, CNR1 jammer at S9-S6

11150, May 17 at 1414, CNR1 jammer at S9-S7

11070, May 17 at 1414, CNR1 jammer at S4-S7

10920, May 17 at 1415, CNR1 jammer at S3-S5

10820, May 17 at 1415, JBA presumed CNR1 jammer

13130+, May 17 at 1418, JBA slightly off frequency, so could really be
SOH without jamming

13150, May 17 at 1419, JBA carrier, CNR1 jammer? See below

14400, May 17 at 1420, JBA carrier, presumed CNR1 jammer

EiBi shows all above as CNR1 or Firedrake jammers of SOH, except:
13150 not listed: rather a local mix RHC 11760 + KCRC 1390 = 13150
13835 against RFA Tibetan via Tajikistan

15110, May 17 at 1421, regular CNR1 jammer against VOA Chinese via
Philippines this hour only; there may be others in-band not sought
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, Sunday May 17 at 1504, RHC Esperanto is starting on
heavily distorted transmitter // clear but weaker 11760. Note the OM
announcer insists on mispronouncing ``politiko`` with stress like in
Spanish on second rather than penultimate syllable as absolutely
required in Esperanto unless a marked diphthong counts as one
syllable.

Earlier today Sun May 17, Wolfgang Bueschel monitored remotedly:

``6100 kHz sign-off at 0700 UT. Both 6060 and 6145 kHz channels
carried Esperanto program only short time. Surprisingly
0702:45 UT 6060 kHz outlet switched OFF.
0703:28 UT 6145 kHz outlet switched OFF.
(wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews May 17)``

Something`s always wrong at Radío Havano Kubo. Listeners would have
even less chance of hearing the first Espo broadcast if they tune in
at announced time of 0800 Sunday on 6100! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA SOUTH. 12935-CW, May 17 at 1334, ``CQ CQ CQ DE HLG3 HLG3 HLG3
QSX --- K``; and same style CQ marker at 1335 on 12923-CW from HLW2;
weak compared to 13020 CNR1 jammer, but sufficient, encountered as I
bandscan for more jammers. EiBi shows both these as Seoul Radio, but
calls without numbers. Some of few marine CW markers left on SW ---
but do they really make any QSX contacts? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [non]. Mike Agner, KA3JJZ, says, ``The reported callsign for
9830 RTTY is listed as NSS in the UDXF logs, not NAU. The transmitter
site was TDoA'ed to be Davidsonville Maryland, not Puerto Rico per
past UDXF logs. Mike`` ---

Indeed EiBi also shows this. Just to keep them straight, from EiBi
here are all the frequencies shown for NSS ``Annapolis``:
4005, *4985, 6487, *9830, *12015, 15959 ---
And for NAU, Isabela, Puerto Rico:
5340, 5716, 6831, *7455, 7830, 10153, *11688, *12120, 13229, 16123,
16213
*some of them near-constant RTTY/STANAG QRM to broadcasts, all
frequencies available 24 hours. Thanks, Mike (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2034 monitoring: reconfirmed new
time of 0300 UT Sunday May 17 on WRMI 5800, good S9+10/20 altho aimed
SSE like 9955, and no jamming (but I have blob from local device).

Also confirmed UT Sun May 17 at 0328 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO, about 6
minutes into so started circa 0322. Next:

0130 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE
0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE
0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 or 6160v to WSW
0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 [jammed] to SSE

1800vUT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania? to WNW, 594-Italy
0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Thanks this week for financial support from Chris Campbell, Columbus
OH, who sent a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com with

PsyPal not necessarily US funds as they will convert. One may also
contribute by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P
O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5085, May 17 at 0607 as I am falling asleep, realize that
WTWW-2 is playing the Star Spangled Banner in a piano version, but
keeps cutting out toward the end before transmitter off 0609*; of
course also with the spurs 5072.1 & 5097.9. Strange that hardly anyone
else take note of such a long-standing defect. You can`t miss them on
1-kHz BFO step tuning (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** NETHERLANDS [non]. 9925, UT Sun May 17 at 0014, The Mighty farty
KBC via GERMANY [ex-EAST], is S9+10/20, inbooming this week for the
first time on its summer frequency after nogood past two weeks. But
will it hold up into deep North America until 0200*? At 0157 still
there but weaker at S9-S6 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950-USB, May 17 at 0039 tune-in to only pirate
around this Saturday night, S5-S6 of hard rock, DJ announcements. No
problem overcoming local KCRC fifth harmonic, but I have Alexandria
SDR up so tune to that, where it`s VG, incessant hard rock and
frequent DJ talkovers with WDOG IDs and/or SFX of barx, whines. Even
some songs about dogs. 0050 ID; 0100 ToH ID saying this WDOG is east
of the Mississippi, so KDOG should stay on the other side. 0113 barx
and yelps; 0114 comment and song re dogs; 0124 for first time hear a
WDOG ID in CW mix with music, again at 0128, 0129. 0131 voice ID,
thanks for tuning in on ladies` night; 0144 ID and woofs; 0150 ID,
etc, etc. Many more logs here:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,67172.0.html
and it seems the counterpart KDOG was on 6925-USB,
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,67176.0.html
Not checked here until 0158 when there`s an AM carrier on 6924.73, but
KDOG went off at 0145 after some SSTV of its fiery four letters one by
one (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9830, May 16 at 2200, no signal from VOT English
to North America, tuned via Alexandria SDR, but plenty of RTTY from
NAU Isabela, Puerto Rico. Usually I dismiss VOT as another day off but
this time I leave 9829-USB on in the background, and at *2236 VOT
suddenly cuts on amid music adding to the RTTY. 2249 the virus hints.
2252 multi-lingual ID reel mixed with music --- Ivo says there are 36
of them. No sign-off heard but at 2254.5 already playing IS; 2256
restart IS in time for one ID in German before chopped off at 2257*

** U S A. 7490+, Sat May 16 at 2308, moanin-n-groanin on WBCQ, got to
be vespers from TOM, yes indeed // 9455 WRMI. No wonder I haven`t
heard `Great Sounding Oldies` as still on WBCQ sked at 2200-2340 ---
unless that refer to dulcet tones of BS and his psychophants instead
of classic tunes as I had assumed. TOM supposedly runs Saturdays at
1600 only until 2200.

[and non] 7490+, UT Sun May 17 at 0038, WBCQ with an AAAWWW filling an
Available Time Slot, probably replay from 24 hours ago. So, what else?
VP 5130 not // music, presumably Area 51. VP 6160 not // either YL
talking --- but wait, checking that at 0042 via Alexandria, it`s in
Turkish, so Iran for Ramadan one more week, no WBCQ to het (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17775, Sat May 16 at 1508, NO signal, not even a JBA carrier
from KVOH, which is supposed to start its weekly English broadcast at
1500 with Wavescan. Not unusual to have no signal here less than 2
megameters from Rancho Simi, too close for F2 skip? There is lots of
HF sporadic E today but mostly east of here rather than west. When
there is some westward Es, can give KVOH a good boost into OK. Now the
only 16 mb signals are bits from far Sa`udi Arabia on 17895 and
17615+; JBA carriers where nothing is listed now on 17690, 17880.

KVOH target is Cuba and beyond at appropriate F2 skip distance. No
KiwiSDRs in Cuba of course, but also absolutely zero signal into Miami
and into TWR Dominican Republic. I keep checking these periodically at
1530, 1605, 1657, 1920. Supposed to run until 2000. At 1612 I also
check the closest SDR I can find to KVOH, at Laguna, but opposite side
across the vast LA metro area, so maybe groundwave would not reach
there anyway.

So all the evidence is that KVOH is not on the air, and this is not
unusual per my occasional chex of 17775 on various days. So Ray, is it
just off today, or more often, or continuously, and for what reason?
Is Covid-19 indirectly responsible as several SW stations say, or
pervasive transmitter problems? The website describes it as
``(Shoffner-Harris)`` --- that variety is a new one on me, more about
it? Searching on that combo of names leads to some individuals but
nothing about transmitters. Maybe SCG named it for some benefactor?
Claims 100,000 watts at 100 degrees central beam with potential
audience of 900,000,000 --- minus one.
{2010 combined population N & S America was just over 1 gigaperson.}
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_continents_by_population

I should add another possibility --- the F2 MUF eastward from L.A. is
so low below 17 MHz even by local noontime today that all 100,000
watts are heading out into space with no ionospheric refraxion. Maybe
makes it to Moon when properly aligned?

Ray Robinson of KVOH soon replies on the WOR iogroup: ``Hi, Glenn.
KVOH has been off the air for a few days due to a component failure in
the transmitter, for which repairs are ongoing. We hope to be back on
again by Monday or Tuesday. Ray`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1190, May 16 at 0611 UT, dominant signal is `Clair de Lune`
on piano, very nice to hear some classical on MW; but whence? 0613
ends with EWTN ID and into `Stories from the Heart`. The lovely piece
is only 5+ minutes long, so I hope they played the whole thing. My
opinion of EWTN has just ascended a notch. This is of course KDMR
Kansas City MO, U2 5/0.5 kW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
