Logs
** ALASKA. 9695, May 2 at 1406, something new with gospel rock, S6-S2
but well modulated, best signal on band except for WRMIs and WBCQ.
Likely either RBA or WCB, but quickly ID in passing as ``Your New Life
Station``, so KNLS, which besides, is gone from 9580 where we had been
hearing this English hour. Why change? No CCI or ACI to 9580 during
this hour nor shown in Aoki/NDXC.

1450, still going on 9695 with gospel music, and then capsule about
archaeology, no doubt biblical and anti-science. A bit more music with
no sign-off but dead air at 1459, keeps running and 1500 opens
Russian, which I guess is also a replacement for 9730 where I just
heard it a few days ago, but unrechecked now.

Is 9695 now on the ``latest broadcasting schedule``? Of course not!
https://www.worldchristian.org/welcome/who-we-are/how-to-listen/

Guess what: Sa`udi in Pashto is already scheduled on 9695 at 14-16,
but no sign of it here, maybe imaginary. Guess what (2)? KNLS is
scheduled on 9695 at 08-10 in English & Russian, so now I suspect 9695
be a one(?)-off mistake, failing to change to 9580/9730 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** ALGERIA [non]. 7295, May 2 at 0521, RTA Qur`an via FRANCE again has
rapid-beep jamming, tone or carriers less than 1 kHz from each side;
approx. 10 X per second. A few recent chex lacked them, so not always
applied. Who would want to jam this? Could it be something else, like
spurs out of Cuban jamming nearby against no Martí?

7365 over 7335 does not compute, as that would land on 7305, 30 kHz
away. However, 7435 over 7365 would fit, 70 kHz away. But these beeps
do not match the mix of sounds heard on the Cuban jammers, nor their
rate, and besides, would not explain why other RTA frequencies are
also reported jammed. Maybe coincidental (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 7335, 7365, 7405, 7435, May 2 at 0521, Cuban jamming of
various levels still running here against Radio Martí frequencies, the
active ones of which, 7335 and 7435, have just been turned off for
good at 0400* per budget cuts, as monitored by Stephen Luce, Houston
TX. We expect the DentroCuban jamming command will not swiftly turn
off too, as they have kept jamming many other previous RM channels.
However, Stephen Luce follows up:

``At a later 0530 check May 2 the Cuban jamming was still going on
6030; however nothing on 7335 and 7435.``

Steve McGreevy suggests: ``A few things come to mind why Cuba keeps-on
their jamming (possibly):

1) Unaware of the Marti outage thus keeping them going;
2) They know BUT afraid to switch off the jammers and have Marti take
advantage and switch back on in the clear...
3) The Cubans have more jamming budget under their system to blare
away 24/7 (?) rather than "budget" to better-match the schedule of
Marti... a little cold-war remnant just like our monitoring of the
KOR/KRE fascination, eh?! 73 - Steve :-) -- N6NKS -
www.auroralchorus.com `` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13436, 13501, 13568, 13634; 13766, 13833, 13900, May 2 at
1411-1415, extremely distorted FM/AM spurblobs at approx. 66-kHz
intervals out of 13700-AM, the outer ones JBA except for S7-S9 13900
which I hit first downtuning; in some cases a trace of the F# tone the
only clue. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13545, 13610, 13675; 13805, 13870, 13935, 13999 approx., May
2 at 2116, now it`s the 13740-AM frequency carrying the
spur-blob-producing transmitter we have previously caught on 15370,
and many mornings including today on 13700. Now these are about 65-kHz
intervals, declining from strong S4-S6 at the first order out to JBA
on the outskirts, at least with the signature F# tone. 13870 also
conflicts with the RTTY normally on there. This of course can only
happen when fundamental 13740 be on the air in the tardes, extremely
irregular. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** INDIA [and non]. Dawn Chorus birdsongs started at 0015 May 3:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgwftFhUQCk
Tnx to Jose Jacob for the link (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NETHERLANDS [non]. 9925, UT Sun May 3 at 0027, The Mighty Farty KBC
on reactivated May-Aug frequency via Nauen, GERMANY, rock music, what
else? Fair signal to UTwente SDR, maybe a bit too close. But JBA here
in OK! at 0034 check; at a Maine SDR, good signal that far anyway. At
UTwente, ex-5960 is now open for Chinese. Perhaps 7 MHz band would
have been a good compromise for broader North American coverage (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6933-USB, May 3 at 0033, JBA rock music here, but
good at Maine SDR, seems originally live concert with crowd applause.
Some unreadable announcements. Many logs here say it`s KINK Radio,
apparently playing only music by a such-named band.
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,66482.0.html
0042 stops, but soon resumes on 6935-AM, apparently same station
(Glenn Hauser, OK WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1-WBFM, May 2 at 2015 UT, KUCO-FM Edmond/OKC with this
Saturday`s opera already over, the anonymous fill-music show is
playing something very interesting; I really perk up when I hear a
well-known humaly in the voice of Carl Sagan. It ends at 2035 when
Lane Whitesell IDs this as Carolyn Shaw`s ``The Listeners``.

We never know exactly when the good stuff will start once the Met be
over. Unfortunately, KUCO provides no playlist on weekends even for
its original programming, so I search about it later. ``The
Listeners`` premiered last fall in California:

https://www.sfcv.org/reviews/philharmonia-baroque-orchestra-chorale/philharmonia-baroque-orchestra-chorale-unveils

https://www.kdfc.com/culture/the-state-of-the-arts/caroline-shaw-the-listeners-world-premiere/

https://datebook.sfchronicle.com/music/review-caroline-shaws-gleaming-new-oratorio-looks-toward-the-cosmos

https://philharmonia.org/2019-2020-season/a-cosmic-notion/

So far I don`t find any linx to recordings of it which one of these
says is about 30 minutes long. But KUCO got it.

Some more vocal music on KUCO, and listening on $ tereo headphones, I
can tell that Lane is voice-tracked, as there are breaks in the
background noise level during his announcements. With another hour to
fill, after ToH IDs at 2100 it drops to dead air for a minute, then
defaults to non-vocal music, really strange stuff, harpsichord and
violin hitting some really sour notes; like a parody? When I recheck
at 2110, Kimberly Powell is apparently live, apologizing for
disruption in regular programming, and playing a properly tuned piano
quintet (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, May 2 at 2210, VOT English is on the air today, but
mostly Turkish fill music, VG via UTwente but with some hum --- not
positive whether it be transmitted thus. But from 2229.5 to 2228, it`s
an evergreen `Turkey`s Tourist Attraxions`, all about the crossroads
of Istanbul. Rest is mostly music, occasional TRT/VOT promos ``with
you 24 hours`` --- really? and 2238 COVID-19 PSA about how to fight
it; 2253 sign-off claiming it`s the 1230 broadcast on 15450, IS, 2256
restart IS with German IDs inserted but this time cut off at 2258.5*
before can start that phantom service. Something`s always awry at
Ankara, erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2032 monitoring: did anyone hear

Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs May 2-3, 2020

** ALASKA. 9695, May 2 at 1406, something new with gospel rock, S6-S2

Nothing though on 9696 on May 3 at 14.20 UT,
b u t
9580 KNLS ALS powerful S=9+10 or -61dBm signal in Edmonton Alberta remote
SDR rx.

Modern program towards youth, not right religious matter.
10 kHz wideband audio, nice modulation.
and

7355 kHz Mandarin Chinese too on air from Anchor Point, 14.25 UT,
S=9+25dB or -62dBm strength into Alberta Canada remote RX installation.

Sa'udi in Pashto is already scheduled on 9695 at 14-16 ...

SAUDI ARABIA 9695even kHz, R Saudi International Riyadh in Pashto,
at 14.35 UT May 3, prayer sermon program, in remote Delhi SDR rx
location S=9+25dB or -48dBm strength in India.

But according my observation - since some weeks now last -
there is un-clean audio feed to mention from studio to the antenna,
a lot of short audio breaks happen, like loose metal connection
on that 55 degrees azimuth 500 kW curtain antenna dipols
or on their feeder line. 73 wb

Logs
** CUBA [and non]. 11800, May 1 at 2255, NF of RHC is S9, but just
barely modulated in Spanish: far better however than the parasites on
11790 & 11810. I am checking whether there will be a collision with
Romania in Spanish already on 11800 at 2300? I do not hear any IS from
it before 2300, but by 2301 there it is: weaker signal underneath
leading to about the same low modulation level as RHC.

11700 was the other RRI Spanish frequency, but RHC forced it to QSY,
to 11990, where I also JB hear RRI now that 11700 is vacant of both!
Can it be coincidental that these two keep colliding. The Cuban
Commies surely have no respect for countries which have overthrown the
yoke of Communist oppression -- and even assassinated the dictators.

Or is it merely Cuban incompetence, picking a frequency already
occupied by another station in Spanish to Latin America? Anyhow, RRI
might as well move back onto 11700, if Cuba does not: better wait a
while to see how this shaxe out. Something`s always wrong at RHC. BTW,
Aoki/NDXC still shows RRI 23-24 Spanish on 11700 & 11800, while EiBi
has it right, 11800 & 11990 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 7380, May 1 at 2256, RHC music at S9+20/25, instead of 11880,
where it had kept the 2300 English so far since the DST shift. Wolfie
had been expecting this alternate frequency but reports today:

``A-3 antenna HRS4/4/0.8 RJ 130degr -30degr slewed SoAF azimuth
2230-2300 11880 BAU 100 100 SoAf Portuguese Africa
today again Portuguese, not Spanish like on May 1st instead.
Every day new RHC irritations. 73 wolfie``

But at 2256 when I had 7380, 11880 was NOT on; had it just switched?
He means today = UT May 1; May 1 = UT April 30 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6950.13-AM, May 1 at 2310, JBA rock music, het from
local 6950.0 JBA KCRC 5 X 1390 sportstalk. These say it`s Captain
Morgan Shortwave:

** NORTH AMERICA. 6960-USB, May 1 at 2308, pulsing rock music like
record stuck in groove --- remember that? S5-S6. More reports as unID,
but last one before 2327* says sounds like Radio Olah??:

** ROMANIA. See CUBA [and non]: RHC collides with RRI on 11800

** TURKEY. 9830, May 1 at 2230, VOT is on today and better signal than
usual even into the PL-880 portable; mixture of music and station
promos in English; by 2252 it`s S9+15 on the JRC; 2254 YL sign-off
claiming as usual we have been listening to the 1230-1330 broadcast on
15450! What does she know? Something`s always awry at Ankara. Keeps
going into IS; 2256 pause and restart IS, inserting German IDs twice a
minute, so we`re in for a bonus. Timesignal ends 5.5 seconds late
after 2300, elaborate sign-on in German but chopped off the air by
2300:45*. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 7490.045v, to 7490.050v, from 0030 to 0057 UT Saturday May
2, `AAAWWW` on WBCQ, also on much weaker 5130.04; and medium 6159.96V
which has a het from a station closer to 6160.00. I knew this was
going to happen as soon as we had the new Ramadan-extra schedule until
May 25 from IRAN: 0023-0120 for all those Turx who want to listen to
those Shiites, up in the middle of the night for early-breakfast, 500
kW at 298 degrees per Ivo; around 0030 AW starts to read a long
article from Radio World about Lee DeForest, radio pioneer. 0057 just
a bit of e-mail before 0100 cut to Hal Turner.

I was also listening to the first few minutes on 7490 webcast; it
started out JBM but blasted on as I was about to try 5130 webcast. A&A
acknowledges it`s May Day; and soon Angela is too hot in Florida and
takes off her shirt in a coy radio strip-tease. But John Carver took
it as Allan taking off his shirt:

``Tonight's show started on time on 5130 and 6160 and a few seconds
later on 7490. Allan and Angela in the studio in Fla. Opens with Allan
taking his shirt off as it's hot in the studio. No mention of what
Angela is wearing. Allan states that at least in this country radio
listening is still more popular than streaming and that radio will
continue to be more popular for years to come. First phone call at
0012 from Freddie with reception reports on the three frequencies.
Then Allan stated that he had filed a complaint about Iran interfering
and colliding with 6160 from about 0020 to 0120. Phone call from
Freddie again at 0019 saying he would check on the interference with
6160. Freddie yet again at 0023 reporting that there is indeed a
collision on 6160.

Back to talking about radio in general and how it will always be
superior to the internet. Allan then reads an article from Radio World
about Lee DeForest. Reading of emails at 0051 and closing prayer at
0059 cut off at 0100. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Re this: ``1350+, May 1 at 1206 UT, somestation far
enough off+frequency to make a LAH - low audible het, with dominant
from NE, presumably KRNT Des Moines; but this one loops roughly SE/NW:
two most likely culprits are KCOX Jasper TX and WWWL New Orleans LA,
both with 5 kW day power. But 5+ years ago in mwoffsetts, WWWL was
very slightly on the minus side, KCOX unknown (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)``

Tim Hall, California, replies: ``In my recordings from the Nevada-Utah
border last October. KDZA seemed to be off-frequency high, as
suggested by https://www.mwlist.org/mwoffset.php?khz=1350
73 Tim``

Yes, I don`t know how I missed that one, fits for DF and plusness:
``1350.034 USA KDZA (Pueblo, CO) 2010-11-12`` --- altho this
measurement was 9.5 years ago. BTW, I still associate 1350 with KGHF
and 1230 with KDZA. But since April 26, 1993, 1230 has been KKPC.

In their infinite wisdom, the Pueblo market masters evolved an evern
more complex callsign history for 1350: [evern = ever and even]

Call Sign Begin Date
KDZA 01/23/2018
KBPL 01/16/2018
KCCY 04/01/2012
KDZA 04/25/2008
KGHF 12/04/1989
KRYT 12/01/1988
KIDN

1350 was previously KGHF as one of my very first DX catches in 1953 or
1954 from Santa Rosa NM (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6161.5-USB, May 1 at 2312, JBA 2-way in Spanish or maybe
Portuguese INTRUDERS, noted while checking for 6160v WBCQ: not yet on
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
