Logs
** ALGERIA [non]. 13820, Saturday July 4 at 1830, RTA International
via FRANCE, again with beepery, but no English, just Arabic, 1836 into
Spanish with lite French accent but also has to pronounce properly
names in Arabic. Via UTwente SDR. Richard Langley, NB reports there
was no English during entire 18-19 hours July 3 or 4:

``It seems they take pieces of the different language segments from
the programs on their Internet/FM/satellite broadcasts (in English,
for example):
https://www.radioalgerie.dz/rai/en/emissions/list

Some information (in English) about Radio Algérie Internationale:
https://www.radioalgerie.dz/rai/en/emissions/list%EF%BB%BF

The "funky" transmitter was used again today for the international
broadcast. -- Richard Langley`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 12200, July 5 at 0607, RHC English, undermodulated S9 vs
CODAR, unlike fundamental 6100. Maybe Esperanto at 0700 was on 12200
too? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** DJIBOUTI [non]. 17870, Sunday July 5 at 1401, no signal here from
LV de Djibouti as scheduled, but a poor/fair signal via UTwente,
spotchecked rest of hour, all talk in unknown language until 1458 a
bit of HOA vocal music and off 1459*. I notified the WOR iog of this
ASAP but at presstime only Ivo Ivanov replied at 1859:

``Good signal here, 1400 in Afar, 1415 in Somali, 1430 in French, 1445
in Arabic and 1457 again in Afar. Probably tx is Secretbrod [BULGARIA]
or per Aoki is Grigoriopol [PRIDNESTROVYE]``.

Website provides audio and texts of broadcasts in May, which were then
weekly, but none since 22 May:
https://lavoixdedjibouti.info/

Christian Ghibaudo reported on June 21 to bdxc-news: ``The latest
broadcast is on their Facebook page. It's June 19, there is a weekly
broadcast on Friday (Radio Vendredi). They broadcast again on
shortwave because the government of Djibouti has cut the Internet in
the country, making listening difficult. The association La Voix de
Djibouti is based in Paris. Regards from Sunny Nice, Christian
Ghibaudo.``

A week ago, Ivo reported to the WOR iog: ``BELGIUM(non) BRB Radio LVD
La Voix du Djibouti on 17870 kHz NOT ON AIR, June 28
1400-1500 on 17870 unknown kW / unknown to EaAf
Afar/Arabic/French/Somali Sunday. BRB Radio LVD La Voix du Djibouti
was on air 1st & 3rd Sun June 7 & 21, NOT EVERY Sun -- 73! Ivo
Ivanov`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7254.9, July 5 at 0613, VON manages to be on air today at
S9/+10 in presumed Hausa (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Re my 1270 KRXO log now //107.9 translator, Chris KC5IIE,
Krug, Tulsa, replies: ``Oops! I stand corrected Glenn, 107.7 "The
Franchise" is in OKC, that explains why I don`t hear it. 107.9 is the
FM outlet for 1270 KRXO, it is simulcasting their programming. Sorry
for the confusion, 73 and Happy 4th!`` (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U K [non]. 12030, July 5 at 0606, news in French, whence? BBC
sounder. Why not Ascension? This is via USAGM SAO TOME at 0600-0629,
and modulated today unlike June 23 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Confirmed here UT Sunday July 5 at 0300 on WRMI 5800, good at TWR
Bonaire.

Also confirmed starting at 0326 UT Sun July 5 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO;

Thanks this week for financial support from John Carver,
mid-north IN, for a generous check in US funds on a US bank to

PayPal not necessarily in US funds as they will convert.

** U S A. ``Hello Glenn, Happy 4th of July, Based on SDR trolling and
some listener check-ins, the WBCQ 4th of July in the Park should have
done OK near you although there was some storm activity in parts of
the region. The next special will be Labor Day, again a multi-program
effort. Although I am serving as cat-herder as Uncle Bill, the larger
purpose is to showcase WBCQ's music programs generally, and I hope
that the other programs (Marion's Attic, Behavior Night, Lost Discs,
Rock Wave and others) also attract new listeners, and perhaps this
might even inspire some aspiring radio host to start a new program as
well. At a minimum, we hope to serve as a reminder that music on
licensed broadcast shortwave (not just pirates) is very much alive.
Best, William "Bill" Tilford, Owner/Producer, Tilford Productions,
LLC`` 0222 UT July 5. My reply:

``Hi Bill, Enjoyed it. Since I was at the computer instead of the SW
radio, I could not resist listening via the WBCQ stream. I am ashamed?
Anyhow some of it was in $ tereo and the scratches were clearer, hi. As
you know, SW from `BCQ is not the best here, even without storms, and
especially without 500 kW. In scheduling, you might want to consider
possible competition from --- TV, as PBS, CNN and NBC were all
starting their 4OJ specials at same time. Your fireworx were hard to
see``

We proudly flew the American Flag all day (as well as on Flag Day)
until sunset; the only one visible in our neighborhood. (There used to
be a constant Confederate flag a block south, but maybe it wore out).
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15610, July 4 at 2010, zero signal from WEWN, not even a JBA
carrier which is normally there at minimum afternoons; while 15825
WWCR is S9+10/20; 15770 WRMI S7-S9 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 93.1, July 5 at 1823 UT, ``Detroit`s New Country 93-1``
briefly over CCI from KS. WTFDA FM Database:
``WDRQ 93.1 DETROIT MI 26.5 kW H&V, 204.0 m HAAT, 42-28-16 83-12-03 HD
COUNTRY NEW COUNTRY 93.1`` 1433 km = 890 stmi city-to-Enid

Andy Robins, Kalamazoo, was getting 10m beacons from all over,
including OK, 18-19 UT. Sporadic E MUF was way above 100 MHz in spots,
so I have been DXing in two sessions before and after lunch, but
little to show for it, mainly traces of DX CCI to fringe semi-open
frequencies. Quit at 1832. unIDs include:
1732, 92.1 mentions Hagerstown, likely MD or IN, but none right there
1734, 106.7, CCI to OK Spanish
1739, 95.3, CCI to KOKC translator
1744, 93.1, trace of Spanish CCI to KS
(Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, WOR)

** ZAMBIA. 11680, Sunday July 5 at 0600, AWR Wavescan #593 via VOHA,
good S9, another episode about early radio in New Hebrides/Vanuatu
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 27385-LSB, July 4 around 2000, very active freebander
channel, in English, yet no beacons audible above 28200 --- so sharp
Es MUF cutoff between them ATM? BTW, why does everyone on CB speak
with an exaggerated GOB Southern accent; required? (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

Logs
** ALGERIA [non]. 7295, July 4 at 0543, RTA, Arabic via FRANCE with
the self-QRMing beeping Issoudun transmitter. BTW, that was also
applied to 13820 during the July 2 English segment around 1830; but
you never know which transmitter will be in use at which time on which
frequency of RTA, RFI, or some other relay, from one day to the next
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey, July 4 at 1357: 13160 S4; 12820 JBA
carrier; 12800 S9 in Chinese.

At 1423, 13160, S7-S9 music; 1424: 10820 S4-S5; 10920 JBA; 11120;
11440 S5-S6; 11460 JBA carrier; 1428: 13530 JBA.

At 1429: 9180 S5-S8; 9200 S6-S9; 9230 JBA carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 12000, July 3 at 1409, JBA talk here, presumed 2 x 6000 RHC,
which quickly checked is still on and barely audible, but 12000 gone
at 1410*. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15140, July 3 at 1415, RHC is absent when this is supposed to
be on; 15230 is on but S9-S7 of dead air, or JBM? Something`s always
wrong at RHC. July 4 at 1400 both are on and modulating, VP (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 12200, July 4 at 0547, RHC English at S5-S9 vs CODAR, quite
audible but not as big as last time on 2 x 6100. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH. 13760.2, July 4 at 1429, JBA carrier from presumed VOK
still way off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NIGERIA. 7255- & 9690-, July 3 at 0606, VON is gone again from both
possible frequencies. Ditto July 4 at 0558 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

back now that WWCR-4 has been repaired and reactivated; see also USA
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9830, July 3 at 2230, VOT, English to NAm
confirmed active today via KiwiSDR Pardinho SP Brasil which I happened
to have just checked for WOR/WRMI; but with heavy splash from much
bigger signal on 9820; at first thought it might be SP`s local R 9 de
Julho, 9818v, but in Chinese, so HFCC as CNR, 150 kW, 290 degrees from
Xi`an; specifically CNR2 per Aoki/NDXC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 28281-CW, July 3 at 1420, beacon ID W8E? copied, probably
this which fits with another letter, from WJ5O roster:
``28.281 W8EH C MIDDLETOWN OHIO # 8W, GP VERTICAL``

Sporadic E; in the previous minute also had one on 28205; and on 28255
a K6##, but none listed around there.

28280-CW, July 3 at 1424, dash and ``DE K5AB ... CENTRAL TEXAS...``
also heard a few days ago, now VG at peaks:
``28.280 K5AB C GOLDTHWAITE, TEXAS # 50W, GP VERTICAL Power increase 5
May 16``
Lots of hets on CB, and WWCR 15825 & 13845 also Es-enhanced (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2041 monitoring: confirmed first WRMI airing,
Friday July 3 at 2200 on 9955: fair at TWR Bonaire & DR SDRs; better

** U S A. 7490v, 6160v, 5130v, UT Sat July 4 after 0000, for AAAWWW,
these WBCQs are detectable, very poor signals with storm noise; all I
hear at a quick check is Angela overmodulating an opinion on current
events.

Has been repeating 24 hours later on 7490v at least, but not this
week, as UT Sun July 5 at 0000-0100 is when Uncle Bill`s
much-publicized 4th of July musical special is due, on 7490+v and
6159.9v.

Unfortunately simultaneously with `A Capitol Fourth` on PBS-TV, but
repeated a sesquihour later at least on OETA; and CNN`s 4OJ special at
0000-0400 UT, not to mention countless local events, including Enid,
where the Enid Symphony Orchestra is barreling ahead with its
traditional performance at Meadowlake Park despite the risks; people
are encouraged to spread out as there is plenty of space around the
lake, but in best of times getting in and out is problematic, e.g.
avoiding those burning poison gas, i.e. smokers who think it`s OK as
long as it`s outside; and parking is a nightmare.

I urged conductor Doug Newell to reconsider; what about the musicians
crammed under the canopy? The windy ones at least cannot be masked.
How about recording and/or broadcasting it? He says they don`t have
the rights to do so, which would be an additional expense.

The concert is always free to the public, underwritten this year by
Security National Bank. Starts around 0130 UT after a full day
schedule of other risky events at the Park, and to accompany fireworx
circa 0230 when it`s finally darkening.

To avoid the hassles, the past few years we have been attending
instead dress rehearsals at 4 pm Saturday back in Symphony Center, but
not this year in that enclosed and possibly crowded venue. The
fireworx can of course be seen from a considerable distance away, but
the music inaudible. Years before I had tried to get them to employ a
Part 15 FM transmitter for better sound than over the loudspeakers,
and maybe audible just outside the park in cars. Nix.

ESO apparently is itching to get going again with no performances
since March, the final scheduled concert of the year, an all-Beethoven
bash in April for season subscribers only, postponed. BTW, there
aren`t enough local musicians to form an orchestra, so ESO has to draw
in others from elsewhere in OK. As a 51-K city, we are lucky to have
it and hope all of them survive (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15770, July 3 at 2044, NO signal from WRMI-9 when RFPI is
scheduled on Fridays; normally a JBA carrier at least; while 15825
WWCR & 15610 WEWN do now achieve that much (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 7385, July 4 at 0236, this WHRI is now squealing, like 7315
VOV relay previously; now 7315 is also on in English not // gospel
huxters, and also squealing.

9825, July 4 at 0555, WHRI squealing here too with g.h., maybe one of
same transmitters as earlier on 7 MHz. Haven`t they noticed in Cypress
Creek, Furman, Noblesville or South Bend?? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5890, July 4 at 0239, WWCR-4 is back on, non-TOM during this
hour, following several days off for repairs. Day frequency 9980 also
resumed at 1654 check, tsk2 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) See also SOUTH
CAROLINA [non]

UNIDENTIFIED. 12670.0-USB, July 4 at 1359, 2-way in Spanish, one of
them screaming, encountered as I bandscan for CNR1 jammers. Per
Klingenfuss 2002y, this was not a ship SSB frequency, but WNU New
Orleans was in CW/DIG on 12670.4 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
