Glenn Hauser logs January 14-15, 2024 |

** ALGERIA. 17600, Jan 15 at 1957 tune-in for some rare nap music on SW, from Ifrikya FM --- just in time to hear it dump off air at 1957.6* amid music: no finesse. If has to get off without saying a word, should at least fade down the music before cutting carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA [and non]. 13605, Jan 15 at 1609 & still 2058, pulse jamming against nothing, as the incompetent Jamming Command keeps running where R. Martí appears only in A-seasons; now blasting on 13820, no jamming audible t/here. How many undernourished Cubans could be fed for the lost cost of this nonsense? Per Aoki & EiBi, no other station uses 13605 at any hour, prudent avoidance. But HFCC shows one: TDF France at 17-18 only at 120 degrees, but in DRM, so maybe occasionally testing? A suitable conflict, noise v noise (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1500 kHz, Jan 15 at 1607 UT, ad with 620 AC, must be usual KPGM Pawhuska in 918 AC but coverage bleeding into KS=620, as there is no KS on 1500. Also with SAH at first, likely KSTP MN via residual daytime skywave. See also USA: KXEL 1540 log at same time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [and non]. 1600 kHz, Jan 15 at 2002 UT, dead air at S9+20, obviously my nearby KUSH, Cushing. 2005 comes to life with ID and cheekily demanding ``keep listening``, into music. Obviously a news-hole, ABC? is not being filled. I`m back almost an hour later, at 2059, ID with announcer`s name, and ``You are listening to KUSH, 1600 and 101.5, Oklahoma`s Americana station, the Cush`` and: DEAD AIR again, but 2105 recheck, music has resumed. Did not listen for entire 5-minute break, but a trace of something else on E/W longwire: probably usual nemesis, KRVA, 25 kW day power Vietnamese for The Metroplex but not yet skywaving much. KUSH day power is 5 kW but gets a lot less coverage per watt than same power would achieve at bottom end of MF band. When will stations ever learn that automation requires constant human oversight? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Jan 15 at 2300, token English from SNR, intro feature to be about visiting a Madrid warehouse of costumes used in a thousand TV shows and movies: another item sorely lacking any visual element; but first the news: they do a good job of integrating axualities in Spanish and summarising them in English, screams of war, bits of music. If you require great detail, no doubt kvz will have that in weekly reports. 2310 to Paris Costumes in Madrid. This topic seems familiar but I did not listen much to it before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [non]. 5960.000, Jan 15 at *2312 signal cuts on, but it`s Chinese from XJRTV, EAST TURKISTAN, land of imperialist ChiCom genocide against Uyghurs and other Moslems --- not English from VOT as scheduled. From before 2300 I had UTwente running and squelched on 5958-USB so I would know immediately when something oncame; while I was axually listening to simulSpain 9690. 2330: no Turkey! Something`s always erroneous at Emirler. It`s a shame so many DXers, editors, insist on endorsing E.T. as really CHINA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 293 MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0721, FBY, 25-watt NDB at Fairbury NE, JBA vs still excessive local line noise on LW. 326 MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0722, MA, 400-watt NDB at MidlAnd TX, JBA vs still excessive local line noise. 515 MCW kHz, Jan 15 at 0729, OS, 25-watt NDB at Ohio State, Columbus, JBA under/mixing with near-local 25-watt PN Ponca City OK, which is normally sole. BTW, Ohio State U. got domain OSU tied up first, forcing Oklahoma State U. to the cumbersome okstate (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2225 monitoring: also confirmed Sunday January 14 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9/+5 into UTwente with ACI from 1314 heavy Castilian. Also confirmed UT Monday January 15 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9/+10 into Durango2 SDR, again overridden by ute noise blast spoiler first 14 seconds. Also confirmed UT Monday January 15 at 0400 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.9, S9+15 direct; outro music from preceding show overlapped WOR opening. Next: 0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to SW 1400 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [also web-, phonecast; jammed?] 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1200 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB 1230 UT Wednesday Unique R, NSW 5035-USB or 3210-USB [previous #2224][SW suspended but still streamed?] 1500 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [unsked but reconfirmed Jan 3, 10] 2030vUT Wednesday Shortwave Radio, Germany 3975 [test?] 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S 0230 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW 1730vUT Thursday Shortwave Radio, Germany 3975 [test?] As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this week to Joe Caberlin, Port Colborne, Ontario for some spare US$ to Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA; preferably by MO or check on a US bank One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9275, Jan 15 at 1955, WMLK is back on MLK Day with Yahweh stuff, S9+10/20; still on at 2115, S9+20/30, sermon about glue and guitars, citing Deuteronomy - of course! Tony Pavick, BC, already heard it yesterday after some days/weeks? absence (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1540, Jan 15 at 1605 UT, KXEL ID in passing as soon as I tune in, then interview Vivek, mentions of Waterloo, because of IA`s caucus day. Must be residual skywave possible at midwinter, i.e. 2h23m after Enid LSR at 1342, now only 2 minutes earlier than latest of the year. Also with 88/minute = 1.47 Hz SAH, perhaps one of two KS, as there is no OK on 1540 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier chex, not full search, January 15 at 0402, finds 684, 693, 774, 855, 882, 891, 999, 1044, 1107. Note: local noise QRM on this rx makes 531 uncheckable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0310 UT January 16 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Sunday, January 14 2024
** BRAZIL. 4885, Jan 14 at 0450, R. Clube do Pará almost back to normal? S9+10/20 in Portuguese talk (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 4765, Jan 14 at 0451, R. Progreso is back on, unlike offness last night - but modulation is breaking up, crackling while S9+20/30 carrier is steady. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11760, Sunday Jan 14 at 1622, RHC weekly Esperanto S9+20, good mod, something about a meeting in Brazilo; no signal on 15140, nor any RHC found anywhere else on any band. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Hey! They have finally updated their frequency sked for current season B23: https://www.radiohc.cu/de-interes/frecuencias but this page is about Spanish only. How about English? To get to other langs one must click on the globe icon at upper right of homepage: https://www.radiohc.cu/en/de-interes/frecuencias shows ONLY THESE: S Fsco 6100 05-07 - imaginary, I NEVER hear it; Chicago 15140 20-21 - usually off, sporadic? and Washington 6000 01-07 - of course irregular and usually poorly modulated if at all. The Programming Schedule link in dropdown under Interesting, even from the English subsite leads not to any specific program names/times, but to a complete transmission sked presented in Spanish, of all languages which is obviously extremely outdated with loads of dead frequencies, but not dated: https://www.radiohc.cu/en/de-interes/programacion How about Esperanto? Lots of interesting illustrated stories with text: https://www.radiohc.cu/eo while its Frekvencoj page is for B23, showing ONLY these two, Solo Domingo: S Fsco 6100 0800-0830 = NOT heard; N/C/SAm 11760 1600-1630. Why are only Commies bothering to SW broadcast Esperantoly? Not even gospel huxters, who employ the most minority langs, only Cuba and China, see: https://www.addx.de/cgi-bin/hfp.cgi but with wrong imaginary time for Havanna, 0700 as in A-seasons. One might explore the other languages, linking only to French, Portuguese, Arabic -- forget about Guarani, Quechua, long gone. But does Creole still exist? Haitian, that is, tho targeted on Rio de Janeiro, Chicago. Manythings always wrong at RHC! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NETHERLANDS. 5954.96, re my log of presumed R. Veronica, JBA Jan 12 at 0735: ``Yes, it is Veronica in the WRTH Web App. And yes, exactly on 5954.96 kHz. Mauno`` Ritola (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2225 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday January 14 at 0100 on WRMI 9955: I happen to have UTwente running so check first there: dominated by S7/S9 pulse jamming over there, a trace of WOR under. I also have Argentine SDR ready after noshow of LRA36: WOR is fluttery S9/+15 and noisy but no jamming audible down there. Also confirmed UT Sunday January 14 at 0416 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, VG S9+23 into nearby SDR, about 6 minutes into so started a bit early c. 0410. Also confirmed Sunday January 14 at 1130 on WRMI 9955, S9+20 when I happen to awaken. Later lookup at mwoffsets finds this top entry!: 1360 1359,714 WCGL (Jacksonville, FL) 2022-12-06 It`s U1 5000/89 watts -- you think? 1359.71 carrier/het also detected on other rx at 0448. Further research far back into my archives: 1360 1359.71 -290 Hz Cypress Gardens FL (WHNR) (Medium Wave News 51/02 May/June 2005 via DXLD) which probably derived from this 2004y log: U S A. 1359.71, FLORIDA, WHNR, Winter Haven - 0914+ 31 October, US soul and blues oldies, black female "I'm Debra McDowell and thank you for listening... on your blues and oldies station..." Same off- frequency observation here as Crawford logs. Fair signal at best (Terry L Krueger, Clearwater, Florida, USA, 27.55.83 N, 82.46.08 W, DX LISTENING DIGEST) WHNR still exists, U4 5000/2500 but nothing about it being so far off-frequency in past bidecade; except now appears barely on wrong side of .000 in mwoffsets: 1360 1360,0009 WHNR (Cypress Gardens, FL) 2022-02-18 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier check, Jan 14 at 0305, not total 9/kHz scan but finds these when sought on the `545: 693, 711, 891 kHz. Temp is down to 4F and falling. A bit later, Jan 14 at 0444, a full 9/kHz scan on the R75: 909, 1044, 1053-strongest, 1089 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1944 UT January 14 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** ANTARCTICA [and non]. 15475.98 RC USB, Sat Jan 13 at first check 1958, NO signal from LRA36 into best Argentine SDR, just S6 noise level. Of the four, another hears it not either despite only S3 noise level; and the other two are maxed out. Nothing several chex later, finally at 2340 nothing into the four. Could it be that Argentina`s wacko new far-right Pres. ``Chainsaw`` Milei is already getting rid of public broadcasting? Anyone hearing RNASG earlier or later today? RAE relays via WRMI may become even more unreliable if at all. See these press via Bill Tilford, WOR iog: https://en.mercopress.com/2023/11/21/no-more-public-radio-tv-and-newsagency-under-milei https://newsrnd.com/news/2024-01-05-famous-artists-and-journalists-on-the-list-of-500-dismissed-from-radio-nacional.r1bFR8cHOp.html Remember, last week LRA36 was mostly a relay of Radio Nacional, little local (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** BRAZIL. 4885, Jan 13 at 0817, R. Clube do Pará, S9+10 but VP with music, then perceptibly Portuguese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [and non]. 6100, Jan 13 at 2313, Chinese music S9+20 which has occupied the entire CRI Portuguese service for years, except for maybe an announcement, same as on 13650 relay via Cuba but not synchronized, also S9+20. HFCC shows 6100 as 500 kW direct from Beijing site aimed NW to far Brasil. Following my unID report of 6100 on Dec 26, Terry Krueger, FL now reports: ``T/in 2245 JAN 12, 2024 my tonight fair with nonstop traditional CH instrumentals. No transmitter break 2257 nor time sounders TOH. 2340 revisit: indeed parallel 13650 from Commie brothers Cuba. Surprisingly, very slight delay at Cuba, with 6100 very good, 13650 almost excellent and good modulation. Saving the best remaining transmitters for CRI? But why is CRI running so many transmissions with no content? I suppose I should be glad, as the content is better than the nonsense economy verbiage.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA. 11615, Jan 13 at 2321, S9/+10 of double Chinese with echo, i.e. CNR1 jammers against the only 11615 scheduled, this hour only, RFA via Tinian, of which I hear nothing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11760, Jan 13 at 0745, JBA Spanish S5 vs local noise bursts, therefore RHC way overtime and way weak. Something`s always wrong at RHC. At 2322, Spanish at S9+20/30 with plenty modulation. Is difference only due to propagation? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** FRANCE. 6000-6005-6010, Sat Jan 13 at 0808, S9+30 of DRM noise, per HFCC, TDF Issoudun daily 0800-0900, 100 KW at 350 degrees to CIRAF 17, 18, 27, 80 = Iceland, rest of Scandinavia, Finland, France, UK, uninhabited central N Atlantic between Newfoundland and Ireland. Is this really on every day, with what content? drmrx.org says irregular, French (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, Jan 13 at 2310, hard rock S9/+20. Initially many unID reports here, then Thunder Chicken Radio per SSTV: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,124057.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 11514.9, Jan 13 at 1643, JBA music at S5 = noise level, no doubt Hikari FM pirate. Also Jan 13 at 2320, JBA S6/S7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, UT Sat Jan 13 at 0759, I belatedly remember to check KUCO for anomalous programming early Saturday morning, as first noted a biweek ago; see my Dec 30 report. A few sex of ``ambient`` music before ToH ID, so maybe still `Beyond the Barrier` instead of syndicated classical host Peter Van De Graaf. Then at 0800 UT starting `Café Chill`! Another new show not on KUCO skedgrid in UT -6: https://www.kucofm.com/program-grid/ nor on alfabetical list of programs: https://www.kucofm.com/programming/ Here`s about Café Chill: https://www.cafechill.org/ Awakened at 0935 UT by music blaring from the ENE paperboy car, delivering the new ``Weekender`` merging the Sat & Sun editions, Monday`s already deleted months ago; I quickcheck 90.1: music again sounds ``ambient`` rather than classical. BTW, KUCO reception has deteriorated. Under `dead` conditions it used to make it to household radio with rod antenna; not any more. It always has to compete with stronger 89.7 and 90.3 OK signals, and KHCC R Kansas 90.1 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** RUSSIA. 9996 CW, Jan 13 at 0748, second pips at S4, doubtless RWM Moskva/Taldom timesignal station; surprisingly MUF holding this high thru winter night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Jan 13 at 2312, VOT not off the air, S9+20/30 direct, already past the news with recipe for something involving lots of copper. Recheck via UTwente at 2344 when measured: music at S9+35/40; 2354 s/off only for the 1330 on 13635! something`s always awry at Ankara; 2355 IS about twice until off uncovering Chinese from XJPBS - or ``Xinjiang Radio Televiziye``, as Zacharias Liangas says XJRTV is now IDing, at least in Kazakh on 7340 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 356 MCW kHz, Jan 13 at 0825 UT, ODX is JBA = 25 watt NDB at Ord, Nebraska, occasionally heard. Not much else now vs HNL (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13563.5 CW, Jan 13 at 1641, PCO, HIFER beacon from Pine, COlorado is JBA; getting to be regular. 2318 a bit better so I can tell that there is a dash between each group of 3 PCO`s (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2225 monitoring: confirmed Saturday January 13 at 1700 & 2030 on WRN N America webcast; also 2030 on WRMI webcast only. Also confirmed starting at 2032 Sat Jan 13 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+23 into nearby SDR. WBCQs check Jan 13 at 0055, pre-AAAWWW into NH SDR: 3265+ OFF, 5130.275, 6159.935, 7489.965, 9330.017v. 0100 on 7490-, first AAAWWW of New Year, so not a repeat like last week. Or, did he stamp this as the first day of 2024? That would have been local Monday instead of Friday. They are in Deland of Fla where it`s now warm, 72 degrees. Angela is either dressed up for the radio, or half-naked: I`m confused. Opening topic is antique automobile repairing, etc., yawn, his major hobby/business; at least preferable to politix; but plenty of ``Democrats are Communists`` delusions at later check (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, WTWW update from George McClintock calling Jan 13: still can`t get 9475 to go by #2 transmitter, with programming ready to start. Ex-Continental engineer coming back at end of Jan to get #1 transmitter going and maybe #3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 4939.986, Jan 13 at 0559, Estación 4940, S9+12 into Miami SDR with music thru hourtop, by 0607 YL Spanish talk presumably sermon. Recheck 0815 in music, S9+20 direct. Hearing it in the 06/08 UT bihour is normal and rarely bothered to log, but checking now following this report: I`m rarely monitoring around 0515 but never heard a ``s/off``. If so, they must come right back on shortly: ``From: billmcdavitt via groups.io <billmcdavitt=protonmail.com@groups.io> Sent: Friday, January 12, 2024 at 11:55:40 AM GMT+1 Subject: [bdxc-news] Estacion 4940 Venezuela Estacion 4940 seems to be back on a regular daily schedule. Their signals have been good here (Florida) lately. Not sure when they sign on but they always abruptly shut down at 0515 UTC, typically in the middle of a song. Station ID on the hour usually followed by the very distinctive and long Venezuela National Anthem. Yesterday they played a Willie Nelson song called "An Evening Prayer", of course in EE just before station ID. Their programming seems to be very well put together`` Also had QRM from 4942-USB: see UNIDENTIFIED (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 4942 USB, Jan 13 at 0602, listening to 4940 station via Miami SDR, QRM from hi side: definitely in Russian, 2-way ``как --- понимаете``, repeated a few times, word in between I could not copy. Maybe asking if someone is hearing him (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 9899.94, Jan 13 at 0750, JBA carrier.
