** CUBA [and non]. 9330, Feb 8 at 0727, digiblaaps alternating with YL
SS 5-digit spy numbers, clearly underneath WBCQ/WLCR adding up to
S9+45. This longtime collision is back as the Cuban spy transmissions
have recently resumed, sharing RHC transmitters. The 07 UT broadcast
had been scheduled on alternate days, or exactly per EiBi: 0654-0750
on days 1357 = M/W/F/Sundays; Aoki as days 1246 = Sun/M/W/F --- but
this is Thursday! Cuba was on 9330 long before WBCQ picked it. While
my local line noise level is S9+ on lower bands, above 9 MHz it`s only
S2/S3 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2229)

** U S A. 379 MCW kHz, Feb 8 at 0745 UT, ND beacon ID as RU - this is
obviously the 25-watt defective one in Russellville AR, RUE, having
lost its E long ago, not so noted in DXinfocentre.com but in RNA list:
``08Oct23 Tony reports it is mis-keying as 'RU' . . . no E``. This was
surely my WTF,K? log Feb 6 at 0735, not a real RU on 272 or 275 kHz.
Previously logged Dec 10, 2023 at 0418 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2228 monitoring: confirmed UT
Thursday February 8 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, JBA direct; S7/S9 into
Maryland SDR.

Also confirmed UT Thursday February 8 at 0230 on WRMI 9395, S9/+5 into
Missouri SDR; following that very strange `Thank You` show.

Also not confirmed at WRMI`s alleged Thu 1500 time, rather something
else JBA at 1527 Feb 8 on 9955. Instead, WOR continues showing Weds at
1500!

Confirmed Thu Feb 8 from 1731 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975, S9+15 into
UTwente, immediately following an ADDX show in German.

** BRAZIL [and non]. 4885, Feb 7 at 0423, no signal direct from Pará,
definitely off as other S Americans are at usual levels on 4810, 4940,
4985 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 6754 USB, Feb 7 at 0048, CHR, Trenton Military is not on
wrong frequency like 6751, checked into Missouri SDR. More about 15031
USB instead of 15034 earlier on Feb 6:

``[WOR] Trenton VOLMET on 15031 USB today --- I often will tune in
Trenton merely as an indicator of how propagation is at my location.
After all, with all of the "no report received" repetition in the
spoken information, it's not a great font of information. Today,
however, something a bit odd: Instead of being at 15034 USB as usual,
it's migrated down to 15031 USB, where I heard it at 2109 UTC. Good
reception on that frequency, though there seemed to be a loud carrier
hum/tone accompanying the information. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake
Stevens, Washington``

``RE: Trenton a waste --- Hi Glenn, I am suspecting they are going
through "growing pains". MACS, along with all other Canadian Armed
Forces (CAF) strategic HF stations, are scheduled for technology
upgrades.

What I have recently noticed on a few occasions is the VOLMET audio
feed being transmitted on 11232.0 kHz USB for a short duration. I am
suspecting that there are growing pains with the switch matrix. There
are several switch matrices at MACS which routes control/data, audio
etc --- from the receivers and transmitters to the various sites and
antennae.

What I have also noticed are regular system checks, "This is Trenton
Military testing 1 2 3 3 2 1 test out". This leads one to believe that
there is a lack of confidence in the way the sites are operating, thus
necessitating the system confidence check.

I have also noticed within the last few weeks that HFGCS is going
through some pain as well. Lots of "no response" to radio checks and
check-ins. There also appears to be some new digital audio links which
I have now heard fail on several occasions, including this past
weekend, rendering the system from that site completely unserviceable.
There is something to be said about the old fashion analogue
technology. Richard`` Lacroix, Canada

15034 USB, Feb 7 at 1619, CHR is back on proper frequency with
no-report-receiveds. Also, from Richard Lacroix at 1420: ``Back on
frequency as of 07 Feb 2024 with NRRs. No updates on the time zone and
NRR issues. Richard``

And at 2044 UT 07 Feb: ``Hi Glenn, I had a good chat with the folks at
MACS today and it looks like we have now worked out all of the bugs
and VOLMETs are once again functioning. Richard``

6754 USB, Feb 7 at 0028, good into Maryland SDR, numerous reports have
been received!! Aviation weather but not terminal forecasts: NRR
Victoria, Comox, Vancouver, Abbotsford. 0030 ID, time 0030 zulu!
Aviation weather for Zagreb, etc., other Europeans NRR. Next repeat
does get Zagreb. In the best of times, there would be at least some
NRRs (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Feb 7 at 0425, no signal from R. Rebelde, the
unreliable. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Feb 7 at 1623, S6/S8 of dead air in Spanish except for
squeal; and 15140 still missing. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 6190-6195-6200, Feb 7 at 0745, S9+30/35 of DRM noise, very
likely TDF test, ex 7295-7300-7305 where no longer heard. As expected,
missing from Aoki, EiBi, HFCC; but drmrx shows 6195 at 08-09, reported
2024/01-02, and now also shows 7300 at 0730-0800 as reported
2024/02/06; both irregular, ?unknown targets, powers and azimuths
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6930 AM, Feb 7 at 0427 music JBA at S8 about equal
to noise level. Pirate this hour only with more unID logs:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,125209.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Wed Feb 7 at 2306, token English from SNR, VG S9+30/40
sufficient to overcome constant line noise level of only S9+20, first
feature after news is about Juan Marinet, this year`s Goya Award
winner for 80 years in the cinema industry. 2317 contact info voiced
by the retired Justin Coe. 2318 other feature about studies of lunar
dust which is apparently harmful altho astronauts surely weren`t
inhaling it inside their spacesuits. In 1972, Harrison Schmidt
complained of ``Lunar hayfever``. This interviewee hard to understand
due to accent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Feb 7 at 2310, VOT English, no signal
direct vs S9+30 constant line noise level; nor at 2330 into Maryland
SDR nor even UTwente, rather good signal in Chinese from XJRTV, EAST
TURKISTAN, all by itself. So is VOT overrunning on 9610 instead? No,
UTwente gets a JBA signal there presumably Beijing as scheduled.
Something`s erroneous at Emirler.

Hold it: by 2351 recheck of 5960.005, now VOT is on, just in time for
the multi-lingual ID filler reel, with more 6CI than usual; 2353 s/off
of 1330 only broadcast, S9+30 into UTwente; 2354 IS; 2356 restart IS
with German IDs. 2400 still going, s/on German. 2420 distorted music;
2423, ``with-you-every-hour`` German version. 2424 commentary about
relations with Egypt. 2435 same familiar themesongs as for features in
English. A few sex before 2442* chops off air uncovering, fellow
genocidal ChiCom (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2228 monitoring: ``From: Richard

Also confirmed Wednesday February 7 at 2032 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.003, S9+10/15 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Wednesday February 7 at 2200 on WBCQ 7489.957, S9+5/15

** CANADA. 15031 USB, Feb 6 at 1646, Trenton Military, ``no report
received`` on wrong frequency! instead of 15034. This implies that a
human being mispunched a frequency keypad; yet is oblivious to the
total futility and uselessness of these radiations. As always takes a
break at :00-:10 & :30-:40. And this at *2110 UT: back on 15031 into
VE6JY remote, with another slight problem, time as ``1610 UTC``
instead of EST. Meanwhile this came at 2010:

``Hi Glenn, Yes, the saga at Trenton Military VOLMET continues --- It
is observed today that the daytime frequency has shifted to 15031.0
kHz (vice 15034.0 kHz). 15031.0 kHz is a valid MACS frequency, but to
the best of my knowledge is still assigned as a "discrete"
frequency.

That has given me another opportunity to fire off an e-mail to MACS
with regards to the frequency, the Eastern Daylight time zone (vice
UTC) and the NRRs. I did notice though that there was a couple of
valid reports today; Shannon and Keflavik. More to follow, Richard
Lacroix`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5025, Feb 6 at 0756, S9+35/45 of dead air in Spanish from R.
Rebelde (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. [WOR] EGYPT STILL OFF AIR - Re: Glenn Hauser logs February
4-5, 2024: ``9440v, Feb 4 at 2148, no signal direct from Cairo in English.
Something`s always amiss at Abis. 9440v, Feb 5 at 2150, no signal into
UTwente. Something`s egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)``

```Hi Glenn, No transmissions monitored from Egypt on any of the
scheduled times as of January 28. I sent a message to ERU enquiring
whether they have discontinued short wave broadcasts. Here is the
reply just received:
``Thanks very much for your kind words. I'd like to tell you that we
have some problems in the building of the transmission centre of SW
radio tx station. Now, we are fixing it. Soon, every thing will go
well. Thanks again. Best regards. ERU Eng. Syed M.M``
Unfortunately he is not specific is to what these problems are. Since
the two transmitters (plus one reserve) are all off air, I am guessing
there may be issues with the power supply to or within the station at
Abis. Alan Holder, G4ZBH, Isle of Wight, U.K.``` Feb 6 (via Glenn
Hauser, WOR)
** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.005, Feb 6 at 2300, VOT not off the air but
insufficient vs noise direct. 2332 via UTwente when measured,
S9+35/45, `Tuerkiye`s Geomarked [sic] Products` about altarstone, or
blackamber, a soft substance used for rosaries, over by 2335 already,
back to nothing but music fill, not even ABYS or WYEH, until 2352
s/off as if this were the 1330 on 13635, and IS until 2354* chopoff
uncovering XJRTV in Chinese from East Turkistan, std. genocidal
denunciations. Something`s always awry at Ankara (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2228 monitoring: confirmed UT
Tuesday February 6 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9/+15 but noisy into
Durango2 SDR.
Also confirmed Tuesday February 6 at 1407 the 1400 on WRMI 9955,
S9/+10, direct, no jamming audible. Next:
This is too early for a break to rotate antenna. Back on at next check
** CANADA. 28175 MCW, Feb 4 at 2150, continuous carrier stands out.
Between long pauses, ID as DE VE3TEN. Missing from WI5V list, but in
this list as of today!
https://listof10mbeacon.blogspot.com/2023/06/worldwide-list-of-10-meter-beacon.html
``28175 VE3TEN - Ottawa ON CAN FN25dj (04 Feb 2024) Note: de ID + grid
+ 75" carrier FSK - Pwr 10w`` Lots of activity on the 10m beacon band.
I wish there were a way to filter out the `domestic` ones and go to
foreign ones without listening to each and every ID (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** EGYPT. 9440v, Feb 4 at 2148, no signal direct from R. Cairo in
English. Something`s always amiss at Abis. 9440v, Feb 5 at 2150, no
signal into UTwente. Something`s egregious in Egypt (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)
** JAPAN. 28430 USB, Feb 5 at 2318, CQDX from 7L4LKK, JBA and took
numerous passes to copy fonetik call. Where in the world is that? Then
working a VA7. QRZ.com: ``7L4LKK Japan flag Japan, MICHIO HASEGAWA,
3-95-2 Tomae Mito-city, Ibaraki 311, Japan. My callsign:
I was born in 1960 and started amateur radio in 1977 when I was a high
school student. My first callsign was JH7XZU. About 30 years ago, I
moved to JA1 area from JA7 area. However, in those days, we run out
of J letter prefix in JA1 area. That is why I was assigned a new type
of prefix 7L4 instead of J letter prefix such as JA1, JH1, JR1.
Therefore my callsign is not a special callsign nor an event
callsign.`` Many photos of equipment, QSL design, scenery:
https://www.qrz.com/db/7L4LKK
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Feb 5 at 2308, token English from SNR, feature
interview about organ donation and transplanting. S9+40/50 direct.
Also VG on 12030 briefly checked, backwards from ME beam (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY. 6125.018, UT Mon Feb 5 at 0410, VOT English with annoying
squeal, S9+35 into UTwente, which I was also hearing first via
Maryland. Autonotch does nothing. To get rid of it, bandwidth must be
narrowed below 3 kHz which leaves very lofi audio. Something`s always
erroneous at Emirler. `Weekly Analysis` is just ending; 0413 song;
0417 ``always-by-your-side`` promo; 0418 song; 0421
``with-you-every-hour`` promo, and `Letterbox`, which is why I tuned
in, to reconfirm on final repeat of Sunday show. Informally referring
to letters/reports from: India, Germany, Italy, Australia, Italy,
Belgium; Alan Holder on Isle of Wight UK, only name we recognize,
longtime listener glad to have L`Box back; India, Lithuania. Along the
way offered only P-QSLs, no have calendars or any other goodies to
send like they used to. During COVID worked from home and didn`t get
it. Back next week and ``Goodbye, my lovely listeners, I love all of
you``. It`s the regular OM announcer whose name per Alan is Halil
Ibrahim Sarikaya, until 0438. Has considerable accent but not impeding
comprehension like the YL badax, Efsun Duri Elgeler. Last week this
show ran from 0417 to 0429, so the span is now expanded to 0417/0438v,
likewise on all the other English transmissions, i.e. those starting
on half-hour, :47/:08. DX/SWL/Media Programs amended. The / indicates
start/stop range rather than specific times (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.018, Feb 5 at 2313, VOT English in music,
JBA direct vs noise. 2331 into UTwente when measured, same offset as
earlier above 6125, same squeal and no doubt same transmitter at
Emirler where something`s always erroneous, S9+35/45. 2350
multi-lingual ID filler reel; 2352 s/off for the 1330 airing only;
2352.6 IS starts; before 2356 restart IS with German IDs; cut off
2359.3* before extraneous German can start and uncovering as always
the 5960.000 CCCCCCI from EAST TURKISTAN, std. genocidal denunciations
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A. 35790, Feb 4 at 2155, JBA carrier suspected to be 3 x 11930
R. Martí. Lots of stronger carriers around, presumed birdies. I
haven`t watcheard it yet, but I bet this tour of Grimesland makes no
mention of its harmonix, heard again Feb 5 about 2310:
https://qrper.com/2024/02/proper-qro-k4rlc-tours-the-edward-r-murrow-transmitting-station/
as found by Harald Kuhl in the BDXC-UK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2228 monitoring: Also confirmed
Sunday February 4 at 2100 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1323 kHz, S9+18 into
nearby Noale SDR; S9+5 into UTwente, no QRM at either.
Germany, 3975, VP S7 into UTwente.
Also confirmed UT Monday February 5 at 0030 on WRMI 7780, S9+10 but
Also confirmed UT Monday February 5 from 0401.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ
6159.932, JBA S4/S5 into Maryland SDR but L&C on webcast; JL gotta go
ZZZ, not checked Mon Feb 5 at 0930 on SW Radio, Germany, 6160. Anyone
funds but not necessarily, to: woradio at yahoo.com and says, ``Glenn,
your efforts are much appreciated! Thanks again for WOR - a valuable
resource.``
One may also contribute by money order or check on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. WTF,K? RU, ND beacon, Feb 6 at 0735 as I was almost
asleep, did not note the frequency. Listed are 272 kHz in TX, more
likely than 275 in NC. This to remind me to check again (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)
UNIDENTIFIED. ``Hi Glenn! Just a quick note about your NDB report on
382 kHz. SP is located in Springfield, IL, not Greenland. The call
sign of the Greenland NDB is SF. Besides YPL and SF, the only NDBs on
382 kHz with sidebands around 400 Hz from the carrier frequency are BT
in Burlington, VT and YE in Fort Nelson, BC. YE was scheduled for
decommissioning last August but was reported still transmitting on
February 1, 2024. IRS in Sturgis, MI gets out very well but its
sidebands are around 1000 Hz from the carrier frequency. Steve Howe,
Saint Albans, VT`` (via Glenn Hauser, WOR)
THE TINY TRAP
JAMAICA, a ``tiny Caribbean island``, asserts Seth Doane in a story
about Bob Marley -- and was axually *in* Jamaica. Maybe you can get
this to play:
https://www.cbsnews.com/video/kingsley-ben-adir-takes-on-bob-marley-in-the-musical-biopic-one-love/
Among Caribisles it`s the third *largest* after Cuba, Hispaniola.
There are far too many truly tiny islands to compare it with, but
among nations, how about Monaco? More than 5,769 Monacos could fit
into Jamaica.
ICELAND, a ``tiny nation``, says Bill Weir in CNN`s `The Whole Story
-- What Whales Tell Us`, an otherwise excellent program -- in this
case maybe let it pass if ``nation`` refer to population of 378,000
rather than area. But where would be the barrier between tiny and
not-tiny; should pop. density be considered?
