Thursday, July 25 2024
** CUBA. 4765, July 24 at 0251, R. Progreso is S9+5 but just barely modulated; while 5025 R. Rebelde is S9+30 with good mod now. But by 0645, 5025 air is dead at S9+30/40, as often the case late at night. Something`s always wrong at Radiocuba. RReb is certainly 24h on numerous MW outlets, perhaps with more reliable modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** MEXICO. 6185-, July 24 at 0652-0715, XEPPM folk music with flute & guitar, no ToH ID break unless I dozed off. Hard to find any pleasant music on SW, vs talk and/or too weak signals (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NEW ZEALAND. 28228 CW, July 24 at 2204, EEEEEEE DE ZL3TEN, only signal on band, OSOB, really gets out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 15390, July 24 at 1910, checking UTwente for REE activity. All three on except 17855 which has been missing several days, but 15390 dumps off air at 1915 and still off at 1924. 17715 and 15520 remain, so not an overall power failure. By 2200 token English on Wed, 15390 is back on at S9/+10 and 17855 is still off, while 15520 and 17715 are about equally sufficient S9+10/20 direct. Wonder if the SAm beam on 17715 has been skewed a bit clockwise to serve us better, splitting the difference? 2201 already in news, about fishing boat sinking. 2212 feature about the decline of the movie video rental business (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 11785.009, July 24 at 2200, VOT not off the air but JBA carrier direct, much weaker than neighbor ROMANIA 11800. By 2227 into UTwente when measured, S9+30/40 as Ms Badax is concluding some talk. 2233 TRTVOTWorld promo, music. 2237 `The Middle East and Turkey`, expectations for normalization of relations with Syria, by some ``expert``, music. 2246 `Sports Panorama` by Ms Badax, probably about Olympix, music. 2253 s/off ignoring SW. 2254 IS. 2256 restart IS with German IDs. 2300 timesig and s/on German with satellite parameters, altes until chop at 2305.5*. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2252 monitoring: confirmed Tuesday July 23 at 2330 on WRMI 9395, S7/S9 into Peoria SDR; missed checking SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975; anyone hear it? Confirmed Wednesday July 24 at 1930 on SW Gold Radio, Germany, 3975.004-, S9/+10 into UTwente but 6160 is OFF, as notified earlier July 23: ``6160 kHz off due to lightning damage the couple of days --- Hi Glenn, WOR will not be audible on 6160 kHz the next couple of days as a lightning strike seems to have hit our antenna and the transmitter at aprox 1636 UT today. Lightning maps show there was a strike some 500 meters away from site. On site cam shows no major damage, however 6160 tx has tripped out. We are on vacation in France. Hope to solve problem as soon as possible. 3975 kHz is running okay. I'll let you know about further developments. Thanks for your shows. Andy (Engineer, Shortwave Radio from Winsen at the River Aller)`` - we hope there be no serious damage! Also confirmed Wednesday July 24 at 2100 on WBCQ 7490 -67 Hz = 7489.933, S5/S7 into Maryland SDR. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160 [if on again]. As noncommercial services, financial support appreciated. Thanks this week to Tony Pavick, Hope BC, Canada, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute via MO or check on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15150, July 24 at 0645, WMLK on a good night, S9+25 SSOB, surpassing 15770 WRMI, and little else. Presumably it`s DEJOM preaching. On other occasions, 15150 a JBA carrier if at all. The ``program guide`` at https://wmlkradio.com/outreach/program-guide/ is so tiny that it`s hardly legible at max plusment, but appears to be an affiliate list of mostly low-power FMs, and TV stations, not a schedule of programs - well, they may well have only one. It seems that their publication in English, French, Spanish, has added Swahili, which might be a clue as to their priorities: https://assembliesofyahweh.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/0624-SNB-SW.pdf (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1650 kHz, July 24 at 0635 UT, I finally compare the KSVE El Paso tone pitch to my keyboard: G# or Aflat. This chart shows that should be 415.305 Hz if A = 440.000 exactly: https://doctormix.com/blog/note-to-frequency-chart/ On the radios we had it closer to 420 Hz; margin of error? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VATICAN. 25700, July 24 at 1428, JBA carrier direct until 1429.5*, BBC Hausa as sked 1400-1430* M-F per EiBi. I have yet to detect even that much from the only other 11m broadcasts, both low-powered, 25800 Denmark, 25900 Russia; nor 25900 Madagascar which is too early (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 8906 USB, July 24 at 0503, selcall tones and intermittent barely audible contacts with aircraft. EiBi shows this is for the North Atlantic route, could be Gander, New York, Shannon or Azores. Klingenfuß 2022 adds Canary, Suriname, Trinidad (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) TIPS FOR RATIONAL LIVING Bye-bye, Bibi, bye-bye: https://www.michaelmoore.com/p/bye-bye-bibi-bye-bye This report dispatched at 2354 UT July 24 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser logs July 23, 2024 |

Wednesday, July 24 2024
** ASCENSION. 21630, Tue July 23 at 1424, JBA carrier is the OSOB and thus the SSOB. Per EiBi & Aoki, it`s BBC Hausa at 1400-1430 M-F, but 1100-1430 Sat - and never on Sunday? Here we are near the solar cycle peak and 13m band is drastically underused. Not a single transmission to or from North America! It should work at least over day paths from European or African afternoons into our mornings. Only SPAIN is interested in such a service, but 16mb suffices when it`s not missing (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 5025, July 23 at 0655, S9+30 of dead air from R. Rebelde. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 11785.009-, July 23 at 2158, VOT not off the air, IS & IDs, S7/S9 direct vs high local line noise level. At 2232 into UTwente when measured, S9+30/45, ``always-by-your-side`` promo, `Turkey`s Geomarked Products` about olive oil soap from Mina? on the Aegean coast. 2235 music. 2238 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music, 2248 ``w-y-e-h`` again. 2252 s/off ignoring SW and IS once to 2253* chop, no finesse (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2252 monitoring: confirmed UT Tuesday July 23 at 0330 on WRMI 7780, S9/+12 into Querétaro SDR. Also confirmed Tuesday July 23 at 1319 the 1300 on WRMI 9955 not off the air, S6/S9 direct. Also confirmed Tuesday July 23 at 2000 on IRRS via AM Italia, 1322.994, S7/S9 into Cavriglia SDR, since Noale & Parma are offline, and the three in Trieste are not getting it at all. There is lite musical CCI, Romania? NWlist shows 15 kW there finishing at 2000, but 50 kW in Azeri from Iran until 2020*. Also audible into UTwente, S9 but noisy reading 1322.991. ``Listener report. WOR on 1323 kHz AM (via Italy) --- Hello Glenn, I can confirm that you are now on 1323 kHz from Nexus International Broadcasting Corp., medium wave, transmitting from Milano Italy. Your WOR program was heard in the Township of Owingen, Lake Constance County, Southern Germany on a Sangean DT200X with internal ferrite rod antenna (no external antenna!), with SINPO 55444, on July 23 2024 at 2007 UTC. I have sent the station a QSL request (online) but just wanted to let you know that your program is getting out on that QRG. Attached is a short audio snippet for you. Hope you enjoy it and great to hear your voice on the AM band. Coincidentally I listened to your MP3 edition earlier today on a bike ride. Glenn Hauser is there on Nexus while the rest of Europe is shutting down AM for good. Not sure how you made that happen but this is awesome. Well done! 73! Matt =========================== Matt Zapatka, AJ4BB, DL6ZM, DU3ZM, EI7JFB, 514 Americas Way Ste 5322, Box Elder, SD 57719, USA`` =========================== Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 2330 UT Tuesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 1930 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975 & 6160; 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1630 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 6160. 9955, July 23 at 0659, WRMI back on with RFI ID in Spanish closing its broadcast. No ID but carrier cut for a few sex before 0700 resuming with Polish Radio External Service in English via WRN. Coincidental, or cut for a reason to change antenna or transmitter? Seems the same S9+20 afterwards and undermodulated. A few seasons ago, WRMI had different day and night frequencies for some transmitters, but skeds no longer show any of that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1650+/-, July 23 at 0652 UT, continuous tone from KSVE El Paso TX, as previously approx. 420 Hz - shouldn`t it be 440? Seems to be constant every night. Some more responses to my reports: ``[WOR] Re Glenn's UNIDENTIFIED. 1650.42 & 1649.58 approx. Eric Fetters-Walp, Jul 20 #41975, IRCA iog: ``I get out of the habit of DXing on MW in the peak of summer, but after following this discussion on the board and hearing Glenn talk about it in this week's episode of "World of Radio," I turned on my receiver at 0605 UTC/11:05 p.m. PDT and heard the tone immediately upon tuning in 1650 kHz. In fact, it was the only thing I could really hear as neither KBJD and KFOX were dominating the frequency. I also checked the SDRs in Lubbock, Texas, and Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and found the tone stronger but matching exactly what I heard. It was really loud via the Lubbock SDR! Here north of Seattle, the tone was audible for the entire time I listened until 0630 UTC. It faded in and out and "wobbled" somewhat, but it never fully disappeared here. Assuming this is indeed KSVE, I'm about 1,388 miles from that station's transmitter. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens, Washington`` Rick Barton, WOR iog: ``[NOTE]: 1650, We have been hearing this loud hum-whine here for months, never got around to asking if other DXers had an opinion on it, when we finally saw it mentioned recently by Glenn Hauser. Here, always very strong when loops are oriented for E/W reception. Sometimes can't be nulled out, and can still be audible (albeit less signal strength) with loops oriented N/S. Tuned in again, just to verify, at 4:30A local {1130 UT} on 4 band battery portable and internal loop bar. -- Barton-AZ`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2323 UT July 23 ** VANUATU. 9960, July 23 at 0658, tune-in just in time to hear R. Vanuatu go off*. Later on, 1000-1100, before s/off, it`s now being reported on 7260 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
