Hauser
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, Feb 17 at 2300 and earlier, no advance
publicity about an LRA36 broadcast this Saturday, but I check anyway.
Argentine remotes are tied up but I get into a Brazilian, indeed no
signal past 2300. But I must have squelched too much, since
de-squelched at 2315, there it is in Spanish vs lots of lightning
static - yet Blitzortung shows a blank continent except for one tiny
spot in the western Amazon and another south of Panamá. 2318 into
music, but soon more talk. Argentine remote then with less lightning
but more line noise static. Still going past 2400. Walt Salmaniw was
getting it direct in BC measured down to 15475.975 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. ``Daytime`` RHC frequency 15140 still on at 0437 Feb 17,
S8/9+5 into KFS ND with jazz, // 11760, 0438 Spanish announcement.
SAWA. 0447 music stops abruptly, and carrier off a few sex later. Tnx
to this tip two sesquihours earlier from BC on the WOR iog: ``RHC is
coming in here on the west coast of Canada on 15140 at 0130 UT in
Spanish with a very good signal, almost too good to be them! They are
airing a news show with stories about Chile and North Korea. Something
must be wrong at Radio Cuba -- audio is too good to be them. Tony
Pavick`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUYANA [and non]. 24945 USB, Feb 17 at 1937, XE1TD uttering his
call from time to time, doesn`t say what for! Amid pileup. Must be
something important just below, like a DXpedition. Yes, per dxheat.com
that would be 8R7X in Guyana, and I do have a JBA signal on 24940.
QRZ.com shows the DXp dates are Feb 14-24. As for XE1TD: ``XE1TD
Mexico flag Mexico, CLUB DE RADIO EXPERIMENTADORES DE OCCIDENTE,
Guadalajara, Jalisco`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6960 AM, UT Sat Feb 17 at 0240, pirate music S9+10
vs HLNL S8/S9 but not by enough. I bet it`s Ball Smacker Radio,
traditional Friday night airing. Yup:
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,125713.0.html
An hour earlier I was not hearing any pirate on the band (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 27185 AM, Feb 17 at 1930 UT, praise music, and 1932
``another positive song will change your day``: again some local Enid
CBer relaying an FM station, but I don`t have an FM radio handy to
make a match. Steady S9+20 generally atop the pileup except for one
strong interruptor. Still going at 2031 when I do make a match on the
ATS909 tuned to 105.5 and the D-808 on 27185. I.e., relaying K288FX
which relays KYLV 88.9 on the so-called `K-Love` network (Glenn
Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.005, Feb 17 at 2300, VOT English not off the air,
S9+40/50 into UTwente, s/on as the 1330 broadcast for Feb 17, news.
2310 `The Energy Agenda` about The Sun and what Turkey is spending.
[Then checking LRA36]. After 2330 mostly music including unusual hard
rock until 2337 switch to a softer pop tune. 2353 s/off, 2354 IS.
CCCCCCI audible during pause, 2356 restart IS but chopoff before
German IDs can begin, totally uncovering XJRTV, std denunciations
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 8992 et al., re Skyking messages among EAMs, not heard in
years: ``USA/HFGCS I haven't heard a Sky King message since Kirby
Grant passed away (Chuck Albertson, Seattle, Wash.)``

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kirby_Grant

``Kirby Grant Movie actor --- born Kirby Grant Hoon Jr., was a
long-time B movie and television actor, mostly remembered for having
played the title role in the Western-themed adventure television
series Sky King. Between 1949 and 1954, Grant starred in 10
Mounted-Police adventures, usually in the role of Corporal Rod Webb.
Wikipedia
Born: November 24, 1911, Butte, MT
Died: October 30, 1985 (age 73 years), Brevard County, FL``

``Kirby Grant (1911-1985) IMDb -- Kirby Grant was killed in a road
accident on Wednesday 30 October 1985 while on his way to watch the
launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger at Cape Canaveral... He was to
have been honored by the astronauts for encouraging aviation and space
flight`` -- were the messages named in his honor? (via Glenn Hauser,
WOR)

** U S A. 28202 CW, Feb 17 at 1935, EEEEEEEEEE DE WA7JYK/B repeated
twice and then gridspot. WI5V roster shows: ``28.2020 WA7JYK C Joseph,
Oregon 10w 43'vertical formerly WB7EUX. 23 JUL 2023`` S9 vs HLNL, plus
many more above this spot. Is the number of dits significant? Some
beacons do this, in this case, ten. QRZ.com: ``WA7JYK USA flag USA,
TOM S BINGHAM, 406 E Third St, PO BOX 368, JOSEPH, OR 97846, USA --
Total spot count for Fri Feb 16, 2024: 48. Date with highest spot
count: 2023-03-02 with 273 spots. Total spot count since activation:
21,630. All data supplied by the Reverse Beacon Network``

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2230 monitoring: confirmed UT
Saturday February 17 at 0130 on WRMI 5850, S9+25 exceeding HLNL but
not enough to blot it.

Also confirmed Saturday February 17 at 1539 the 1530 on SW Radio,
Germany, 6160.001, S9/+10 into UTwente but with considerable ACI
splash from 6165 in Turkish, i.e. CRI via Urumqi, East Turkistan,
azimuth 270 degrees due west.

Also confirmed Saturday February 17 at 1700 on WRN North America
webcast; following very brief headlines from ``Feature Story News,
Austin, Texas`` yet a British accent.

Also confirmed Saturday February 17 at 1833 the 1830 on SW Radio,
Germany, 3975.002, S9+5 into UTwente.

Also confirmed Saturday February 17 after 2030 on WRN N America
webcast and on WRMI webcast-only.

Also confirmed Saturday February 17 starting at 2038 the 2030v on

** U S A. Pre- `AAAWWW` check of WBCQs, UT Sat Feb 17 from 0039 into
Maryland SDR, accurately calibrated: 3265 OFF. 5130.264 ATATT S7/S5.
6159.932 TOMBS S6/S4. 7489.960 FKB S9+5/15. 9330.000 WLCR PP S9+15/20.
After pause at 0100, 7490 announced, following AAAWWW was originally
broadcast Friday January 12, 2024. Never mind (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [non]. 12050, Feb 17 at 1946, JBA carrier, surely not WEWN
Spanish which normally has a good signal especially when 12160 WWCR
achieves S9+10/30. WEWN must be OFF! Rather, 12050 be R. Ndarason
Intl, targeting CHAD, sked 18-19 via Woofferton and 19-20 via
ASCENSION. Incredible how they are both cool with `sharing` 12050 when
there are plenty of unoccupied channels. BTW I think 15610 WEWN
English has been off again for some time after former start 1900
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Feb 17 from 0247,
not a full bandscan but checking likely spots on the NRD 545 tuning
USB 1 kHz down from: 1089, 1053, 1044, 855-2, 774, 693 - likely mostly
SPAIN or UK (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Fri Feb 16 at 2310, token English from SNR, VG
S9+30/40 into Maryland SDR. Feature is interview about/with flamenco
guitarist (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 9610.004, Fri Feb 16 at 2221 I try the 2130+
English broadcast, S9/+15 into UTwente, not the bigsig it gets after
2300 on 5960 since 9610 is aimed away toward S Asia; but with heavy
SAH of 6 or 7 Hz - I estimate that range by counting rapidly
1-2-3-4-5-6-7 over and over as I watch the seconds tick by on my
watch. This must come from CNR8 Mongolian program via Beijing site,
nothing else now scheduled. S/off of English is underway, seems like
long version with all-wrong times, but hard to copy. 2226 IS is still
running now with IDs in Italian, ``Qui la Voce della Turchia`` -- or
are they saying ``Tuerkiye``? They sound so much alike. 2230 continues
Italian, but hard to copy with almost equal signal from China, both
mostly music. Like German after 0000 and Portuguese after 0100 on
5960, Italian at 2230 is mistaken overrun, not on B23 schedule where
the only Italian is supposed to be at 0930! Same SAH situation at 2300
when I expect English to overrun on 9610 instead of 5960, but
switching to 5960 I do find it on with VG S9+30/40 signal into UTwente
opening English; retune immediately back to 9610, now I hear CNR8
only, so TRT must have QSYed at the same time I did. Or on this date
not really same Emirler transmitter, where something is always
erroneous.

As for the 5960.005 broadcast, I have to split time with SPAIN and
WOR/WRMI check. 2320 `WYEH` promo, music. 2324 `Weekly Analysis` on
relations with Egypt improving since the coup there in 2013y. Erdogan
and large delegation now visiting Cairo. I cannot catch the name of
the writer even tho it`s not the badax reading it. 2329 `WYEH` promo
again, music. 2333 `Folk/Fairy Tales` about the sister of seven
brothers. 2339 music. 2343 `ABYS` promo, music. 2346 `WYEH` promo yet
again, what crutches, music. 2351 `ABYS` again and s/off the version
with all times wrong in local yet called UTC; something`s always awry
at Ankara. Not noted IS and cutoff time, but not on after 0000, just
East Turkistan, standard denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

WORLD OF RADIO 2230)

** U S A. 8992 USB, Feb 15 at 1605, ``This is Raindrop`` and fonetix:
TDVUC7 repeated, then alfanumeric ``message follows`` starting with
those same 7. No echo but always background noise. I assume the same
ID is never used more than once?

Feb CIDX Messenger Utility column by Gilles Letourneau informs:
``HF Global Command (HFGCS) 4724, 8992, 11175 and 15016 kHz USB ---
One common use for the HFGCS is to place telephone calls from the
aircraft in flight [...] The HFGCS also carries Emergency Action
Messages (EAMs).

In addition to EAMs, the HFGCS carries a few other types of messages.
A higher priority code for orders is a Skyking Message, which is a
time sensitive message for orders that need immediate attention. Force
Direction Messages (FDM's) are also sent through the HFGCS, although
it is impossible to tell whether the message is an FDM or just another
EAM being read.

Although transmissions are often single sideband (SSB), the use of the
ALE transmission mode is more and more common. HFGCS complements the
use of satellite communications between aircraft and ground stations.

If you hear echo on the frequency you’re listening to, it is due to
the signal often being transmitted over several stations at the same
time.`` I have not happened upon a Skyking Message in many years
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Illustrated and indicating it is not new. But why these transmissions,
and where be it parked? I notice that in this and many other cases,
the callsigns try to match letters in the ship`s name. Broad search on
call leads to lots of irrelevant New Jersey hits (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960.016, Feb 14 at 2343 tune-in via UTwente, VOT S9+45 in
music. Missed most of the broadcast and all of simulSpain while
dealing with an internet outage. Nothing but more music till 2354
s/off for the 1330 only; 6 notes of IS before chopoff, no finesse,
uncovering XJRTV in Chinese, only S9/+5, std genocidal denunciations
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. (101.5), Wed Feb 14 from 0700 UT, webcast of KSFR Santa Fe
NM, one of my favorite stations, starts `The Third Floor`, vocal,
choral music, sacred and secular, I enjoy but too late. KSFR info:

``Wednesdays Midnight-2:00 am [MST] Bill Cromwell is your host and
listening companion for two hours of Vocal and Choral Classical
Repertoire each week on The Third Floor Presents. Enjoy motets,
masses, cantatas, choruses, lieder, arias, songs, and more from around
the world and across the centuries. For more The Third Floor Presents,
visit https://classicalthirdfloor.org
That also leads to audibility on demand; out of Fort Loudon, PA:

Provenance of title remains a mystery. I previously reported about
this show when it was on KUCO, which did not last long: see under
OKLAHOMA:
https://www.w4uvh.net/ghlogs_2022_1208_1214.txt

A few minutes into it this week on KSFR stream, jarringly interrupted
by a few seconds of African? drumming, automation screwup? It also
keeps cutting short the closing announcement of the preceding show
`Map Is Not Territory`. I have notified The Invisible Man, Mark
Kuechle about this. I guess he is voice-tracking, not really `live`
there, altho I think he is really at KSFR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0010 UT February 15
