Logs
** CHINA. CNR1 jammer search, Nov 10 at 1350, none WOOB higher than
JBA carriers on 10920, 10720; at 1353, JBA or JBACs on 9215, 9290,
9315, 9320, 9340, 9355, 9370 --- but per Aoki of these, 9290, 9340,
9355 and 9370 are all something else (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. Evening CNR1 jammer search WOOB, Nov 10 from 2310: JBA or
JBA carriers, u.o.s. Strong 13070 S6-S9 brought up on second receiver
for easily // chex. Started tuning down from 14000; there may have
been some above: 13160, 13130, 13070, 12880, 12835 S5-6, 12820, 12550
S6-8, 12500 S6-7, 12230 S6-7, 12210, 12190.

At 2319, 11775 inband // 13070.

From 2321: 11750 S4-6, 11580 S3, 11520 S3, 11500 S2, 11440, 11170,
11150, 11120, 11100 S6-8, 10970 S7-8, 10920 S7-8, 10870 S5-6, 10820
S4-6, 10160 S8-9! - but avoids the ``30m`` hamband up to 10150.

From 2327: 9180, 9200 S9+20/25, 9215 S7, 9230?, 9300 S7-8 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 6090, Nov 11 at 0005, poor Chinese not // CNR1 11070 etc.,
rather CNR2, China Business Radio. Aoki/NDXC shows site Golmud 916,
while EiBi shows q which is really the same:
q-Ge'ermu/Golmud "916" (Qinghai) 36N26-95E00
Would you believe Aoki/NDXC still shows on 6090 the Anguillan part of
Great Britain; and Bandeirantes/Brasil.

6080, Nov 11 at 0006, CNR1 at S9+10 not a jammer but // 11070 which
is; site also q, only one myriahertz separate from 6090 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 11790, Nov 10 at 2318, discussion in American English, so
likely CRI, certainly not VOA! Yes, sked CRI 23-01 via Xianyang site;
and not hearing any RHC spur from 11800 which is fairly strong; nor on
11810 but something else, per Aoki/NDXC CNR8 in Mongolian from Beijing
site (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 15125, Nov 11 at 0013, English narration with music, and
voicing-over a bit of Chinese, so it`s CRI via Beijing site for SE
Asia but good here, noticed when tuning 15120 for absent CRI relay via
Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6100, Nov 10 at 0653, RHC English is suptorted here, but OK
on 6145, and 5040 still on; plus 6000 but undermodulated. Now the
nominal English hours on 5040 should be 00-01 & 06-07 only.
Something`s always wrong at RHC. BTW, the ``African`` hour in English
in B-seasons had been at 2200 but I have not hunted for it since that
disappeared mid-summer when it was at 2300 on 7380 // 5040 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13700, Nov 10 at 1345, RHC is not on here but is on 13740.
Aoki/NDXC shows 13740 Bejucal at 12-14, and 13700 Bauta at 14-16, but
they usually overlap considerably. EiBi agrees with NDXC except puts
both in Bauta. No spurs possible with 13700 off, but Mark Coady had
some the following hour today (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5990, Nov 11 at 0010, JBM Spanish, wonder if an RHC program?
No, not // 6000, 11760 or 11950 and eventually talking about China, so
CRI relay as scheduled; however, no signal on // 15120. Something`s
always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Nov 11 at 0010, RHC Spanish discussion of US politix,
running 5 seconds behind 5025 R. Rebelde, so both are simulcasting the
`Mesa Redonda` TV show; also on // 11950 at 0018 only S6 and JBM. But
not on any other RHC channel, own Spanish (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** JAPAN [and non]. 7445, Nov 10 at 0656, quite a collision here,
BBCWS in English until 0659.5*, and something in Japanese at equal
level --- one transmitter with double feed, or two? No SAH detectable.
B-20 HFCC shows BBC ASCENSION at 0600-0700, but NHK is not supposed to
start until 0700! It does keep going solo after BBC quits, timesignal
at ToH. This one is 300 kW, 85 degrees direct from Yamata for CIRAF 14
& 16 = Chile, Argentina, most of Uruguay and half of Paraguay &
Bolivia, at 0700-0900 UT, i.e. starting at 3 or 4 am local! Are the
Japanese immigrant community there known for early-rising? This would
be much better suited for Hawaii on the way at 9-11 pm HST! But this
morning turned on a bit earlier? Aha, Aoki/NDXC shows *0655, and also
that 7445 BBC is *jammed; its 65-degree azimuth across Africa must be
intruding into Chicomland, where far too many Mandarins understand
English and otherwise would risk corruption by the truth (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MADAGASCAR. 9515, Nov 10 at 2026-2028*, soft orchestral music,
maybe looping as an IS? Good with some flutter. It`s AWR French aimed
USward across Africa at 320 degrees from Talata with 250 kW from
2000.

9855, Nov 10 at 2029, open carrier at S9/+10, 2030 NHK World Radio
Japon opening in French, somewhat undermodulated. Could be same Talata
transmitter just closed on 9515; now it`s 250 kW at 305 degrees (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NICARAGUA. 8989-USB, Nov 10 at 2327, VP Spanish with predicator
exaggerated self-confident intonation, presumed the fisher-preacher in
or near Nic waters (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU [non]. 5980, Nov 10 at 2316, no trace of a carrier from R.
Chaski, just Cuban pulse jamming originally for now vacated Radio
Martí, and also some bubble jamming centred circa 5980.3 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 5896.50-USB, Nov 11 at 0015, MARS net with sporadic voice
contacts, blaaps; one clear fonetik ID from AFA6PY, but where? Hardly
any hits searching on call, not even license plates. Have had several
logs since 2016 of MARS net here around this hour, just outside the
ITU official 5900+ SWBC band, despite loads of stations down to 5800;
but no QRM to this net now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2059 monitoring:

Could anyone awake at 1030 Wed please check direct or remotedly
whether 5850 WRMI is really running WOR then? Tnx.

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [new? unconfirmed]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9395, Nov 10 at 1354, WRMI-6 is back on! At full power and
modulation, S9/+10 with Oldies, IDs. Had been off for two sesquiweeks,
since Oct 20 with very serious problems as discussed in the WOR iog.
Also still on at 2024 check with interminable SMTV ID including this
and the other WRMI frequencies with general nominal coverage areas.

9955, meanwhile, Nov 10 at 2029, WRMI-3 is still BSing // 9980 WWCR
and 9455 WRMI; 9955 had been reactivated daytimes in place of 9395.
Maybe now it will resume radio silence between 15 and 21, later after
15 on weekends. 9395 runs 24 hours, with quite a variety of Systems
input depending on time, per http://www.tinyurl.com/WRMIfqs ---
C, F, G, H, J. The transmitter grid has been updated as of today.
WRMI posted this on disgraced FB, 42 minutes before 2204 UT Nov 10:

``9395 kHz back on the air! We are happy to say that WRMI now has the
frequency of 9395 kHz back on the air. The programs which were
temporarily transferred to 9455 kHz have now returned to 9395, and
9455 kHz is back to its regular programming. Thanks for your patience
while our 9395 kHz transmitter was being repaired, and thanks to our
engineers Don Frish and Pat Travers for all of their work on this
unit.``

As for all three 7 MHz WRMIs severely degraded last evening, they were
back up to usual levels by 0700; must have been an ionospheric
disturbance which later abated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VIETNAM. 11719.9, Nov 10 at 2320, poor S4 in tonal language; per
Aoki/NDXC it`s VOV-1, nominal 11720 from a station replete with
offfrequenciness.

12018.8, Nov 10 circa 2317, another longtime cockeyed VOV JBA carrier,
scheduled now in Indonesian on rounded `12019` per EiBi but this
block of languages absent from Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 9292.2-USB, Nov 10 at 2329 as I am scanning for CNR1
jammers, some 2-way in Spanish; cambio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** PERU [non]. 5980, further checking for R. Chaski, Nov 9 at 2346:
there is a carrier mixed with Cuban pulse jamming, adding up to
S9/+10, surely too much to be Urubamba, but what? At 2353 modulation
starts with the Iranian choral national anthem, and then Qur`an, i.e.
the standard sign-on of IRIB, for the Spanish to S America service of
La Voz de la República Islámica de Irán, starting at 2350. So even if
OBX4M were on until 0000, it would be blown away by this.

Here are the significant entries in EiBi:
5980 1700-2200 TUR Voice of Turkey TU Eu e
5980 1730-2352 PRU R.Chaski Red Integridad S,Q PRU ur
5980 2350-0250 IRN IRIB Voice of I.R.Iran S SAm s
5980 1100-1630 PRU R.Chaski Red Integridad Q PRU ur

Notice how the Chaski sign-off seems to be coördinated with the Irán
sign-on, more likely coincidental? But even in Perú they could well be
aware of when Irán takes over their frequency. So our window for
possibly hearing it will be between 2200 and 2345v, not to mention
around sunrizzze (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2059 monitoring: confirmed UT Tue Nov 10 at
0100 on WRMI 7780 via UTwente SDR, S9 but only poor and noisy.
Virginia, Maine and New York SDRs are not getting it or only traces.
At 0127 I try direct and get maybe a JBA carrier, while the other 7
MHz WRMIs, normally loud and clear aimed more thisaway, are also
severely degraded, 7570 JBA and 7730 JBA carrier. This is hard to
understand from WWV data at 00 and 03: K-index 0 and solar flux a
whopping 90! But MUF over FL-OK path is way, way down, as we are into
wintrish darkness.

Also confirmed UT Tue Nov 10 at 0330 on WRMI 5800, VG S9/+10 into TWR
Bonaire SDR; following the same Spanish ID twice by Dino at 0329-0330.
Next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [new? unconfirmed]
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE

** U S A. 7505, Nov 10 at 0207, no signal from WRNO, suspect really
off rather than awful propagation; nor detectable at Bonaire, 0352
check; while at 0207, 5085, WTWW-2 is a poor S9 direct instead of
usual blaster (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 6905.9-RCUSB, Nov 9 at 2356, drumming music, but
modulation is very defective and crackly, S6-S7 into Bonaire SDR.
Toggling the step-tuning in USB, zero-beat seems about 6905.80 but
when tuned to 6905.70 in SAM mode, the carrier offset reads out +230v
Hz, which adds up to 6905.93. Nov 10 at 0001, automated timecheck and
ROCV 6906 ID. Recheck at 0328, still the same distorted modulation
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Nov 10 from 0134
UT: more signals have a (2) beat than when I usually check later as
now more of Europe is still in darkness, even into AfroAsia. 531,
576(2), 639, 693, 711, 738, 747, 774(2), 837(2), 855(2), 882(2), 891*,
909, 936, 999, 1044(2), 1053(2), 1089*, 1098, 1107(2), 1134, 1152(2),
1215, 1305(2), 1413 kHz. *strongests, likely Algeria and UK (Glenn

Unfortunately, I did not hang around to copy whom they were

Part of the ``about us`` on their own webpage:

<xe1ih@yahoo.com>

constitutiva...``

If you are wondering about that name Hidrocálidos --- it`s just
another way of saying ``hot waters`` which is what Aguascalientes
really means. I wonder if it`s in common usage outside ham radio and
this club to refer to their city/state, as ``Aguascalienteño`` would
be rather cumbersome.

Rather like in New Lion, they don`t call themselves ``Monterreyanos``
but rather the classier ``Regiomontanos`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS. 12125, Nov 9 at 1502, S7-S9 of music and
soft talk in uncertain language, but not Chinese jamming. Scheduled is
RFA Tibetan via TINIAN this hour only (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2059 monitoring: confirmed Monday
November 9 from 1900:49 on IRRS, 7290 via BULGARIA. As usual via
UTwente SDR only, I tuned in earlier to catch the carrier cuton at
1855:39. At 1859:50 a few syllables of some extraneous talk, then
canned IRRS ID, with the questionable Milano PO box; 1909:20 `Feature
Story News` headlines only, before WOR start. To avoid any internet
delays, times here are based on unknown timesignal station on 5000
soon checked on same SDR, with a beep on the minute, but which? Not
WWV/H. Suppose it has to be BPM from Xi`an, China; nothing on 4996
from RWM Taldom, Russia.

Unfortunately there is as always *very heavy* splash from both sides.
When an hour earlier during DST, at least both splatters were 10 kHz
away, but now there`s CRI on 7295, as well as Vietnam still on 7280.
AMSynch would be preferred for best sound but it cannot escape them no
matter how narrowed. So listening on narrow LSB is slightly better
than AMS or USB. More unfortunately, the IRRS signal fades down during
the WOR semihour making us even more of a challenge to hear. I also
hear a WWCR1-style squeal which is likely out of the Secretbrod
transmitter. At 1927 toward the end, I also have a lite het from 7288,
maybe a ham from Region 2? A bit early for that. WOR ends at 1929:47,
IRRS ID and onward, but I fear most listeners would have given up by
now. I wonder if it`s this bad all over Europe? It would be nice if
IRRS could find a clearer frequency for all the 1900-2000 programs on
SW. Next:

0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE

** ZAMBIA [non]. 17775-, Nov 9 at 1554, S9/+10 of dead air, or is
there some JBM? KVOH, Simi Valley, California, USA, is supposed to
start at 1500 on winter weekdays. Recheck at 1601, now I am surprised
to hear an ID in English by the well-known voice of Ray Robinson, as
``This is Radio Christian VOice, Lusaka; following program provided by
Strategic Communications Group, Ltd.``, and into praise music, not
`Frecuencia al Dia` in Spanish.

Before I could report this, Ray himself posted to the WOR iog at 1654
UT: ``Due to an equipment failure in the KVOH studio here in
California, we are currently relaying Voice of Hope - Africa
programming (in English) on the KVOH transmitter, at 17775 kHz.
Hopefully this will be for one day only, but you may be interested to
hear the anomaly. Ray.``

To which I replied: ``Ray, Yes, I already did, surprised to hear your
``Radio Christian Voice, Lusaka`` ID at 1601 on 17775-, Glenn``

But I wonder why he called it that instead of ``Voice of Hope -
Africa`` ? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 6171-USB, Nov 9 at 0732, weak 2-way in Spanish when no

** CHINA. CNR1 jammer survey near sunset here, Nov 8 at 2308: 7540 &
7470 in Chinese, both against RFA in Tibetan this hour only, via
Kuwait and Tajikistan, respectively.

Nov 8 from 2325, WOOB survey between 12 and 14 MHz only finds CNR1
jammers: 12190 & 12230 S3-S4, the rest JBA/carriers: 12500, 12550,
12870, 13070, 13160, 13920 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 7430, Nov 8 at 2309, S9 Khmer mentioning Boris Johnson. It`s
CRI via Nanning site; need LSB to avoid 7435 R Marti and jamming
splash (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CHINA. 7220, Nov 8 at 2311, Vietnamese talk with music CCI,
S9+15/20, CRI scheduled via Xianyang site --- o, it`s not QRM but
voice-over, geez, briefly music only; but when talk resume I can still
detect an understation, which would be Romania in English (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, Nov 8 at 2323, RHC is S5-S8 and distorted about a
pintor, music. Can`t even properly present its #1 legacy frequency.
Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauer, OK, WOR)

** CUBA [and non]. 5990, Nov 8 at 2317, CRI relay music but modulation
is cutting off and on, and when on, it`s distorted. This hour is
supposed to be in English, but I check 13650 and hear exactly the same
music and cutouts synchronized in the ``Portuguese`` service, so both
getting the same defective feed from Beijing. At 2319 I also hear the
same music on 6100 but not cutting out, i.e. CRI ``Portuguese`` hour
direct from Beijing site. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba too
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. UNIDENTIFIED, 6934.9-AM, Nov 8 at 2313, JBA carrier,
smax of a pirate but none reported in HFU circa 6935 now; and no
others on the band altho three hours earlier, Chris Gay in KY was
getting three.

6885-AM, Nov 8 at 2316, S8 open carrier, could also be a pirate but
none reported; marred by regular pops like an electric fence but only
ranging 6873-6894 or so (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** PERU [non]. 5980, Nov 8 at 2316, not even a JBA carrier from R.
Chaski, despite no significant Cuban jamming either now that Radio
Martí has B-moved to 6125. I am hoping to detect it again this season,
but is it even active? Claudio Galaz in Chile used to log it but have
not seen anything from him since July. Current Aoki shows Chaski,
Urubamba, at 1000-1500 & 2200-0103, but like so much LA info there,
may be long outdated. WRTH 2020 almost agreed, 2200-0100 from OBX4M, 5
kW. When last hearing it a few years ago, it was closing earlier,
circa 0000? With its timer slipping a few seconds each night. Need to
check more, and also via remotes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960, Nov 8 at 2320, Turkish music is VG S9+25 on
VOT English to us; while its ex-frequency 9830 is now occupied by a
weak CNR1 non-jammer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2059 monitoring: confirmed UT

Not confirmed UT Mon Nov 9 from 0401.5 on Area 51 webcast, rather last
week`s 2058 is playing again; some problem getting 2059? WBCQ 6159.9v
is JBA or absent at various remotes, noisy S8 into Virginia, and JBA
here. At *0430, adjacent 6155 ACI from NHK English via Austria, 300 kW
non-direxional for Europe, but plenty strong over here, UT M-F only.

** U S A. 5050, Nov 9 at 0115, WWRB is still here with gospel huxter
in limited weekend-only sked, despite B20. HFCC shows it could be on
any of: 3185, 3195, 3215 or 5050 but normally in winter it`s on 90m
only, at first 3215, then switching at 0200 to one of the others,
clearing out 3215 for WWCR-1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7501.3-USB, Nov 8 at 2307, JBA 2-way in Spanish (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 11709.9, Nov 8 at 2323, JBA talk from something
off-frequency, unlikely to be CNR1, the only listee at this hour
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
