Glenn Hauser logs February 14-15, 2021 |
|
Monday, February 15 2021
** CUBA. 5040, Feb 15 at 0237, RHC is S9+10 of dead air when checked on Bonaire SDR, while 5025 Rebelde is VG OK. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 9535, UT Mon Feb 15 at 0239, of all the RHC Spanish frequencies known at this hour on 13, 11, 9, 6 and 5 MHz, this is the best and yet very poor S5-S6 into Bonaire SDR. I`m checking for `En Contacto` DX program, since it was missing from first airtime Sunday morning. I switch to En Vivo webcast at http://www.radiohc.cu which is attached to a 24-hour program schedule you won`t find anywhere else, claiming E.C. is at 9:35 pm EST Sundays --- but it does not really start until 0240 UT Monday! At least it exist. Not a hint of any Profesor Arnaldo Coro Antich; instead unID OM announcer goes lickety-split in Spanish but 100% comprehensible with excellent enunciation unlike Arnie. But annoyingly and insultingly, two main topix are boilerplate about how satellite communications work; and boilerplate about HF propagation --- each broken up into alternating brief segments, as if listeners` attention spans cannot handle any more than a couple minutes of each at a time. Also some ham special events, and a brief bit about what SSB is, resorting to English-language abbreviations. At closing, locutor name ID sounds like Marvin Hueso? Same writer credit as last week but adding an uncopied matronymic last-last name. Theme music fill out for 15 minutes ending at 0255, then `En Cía del Dr`, which in the mornings is supposed to get 10 minutes at 1450; so did it run until 0305 tonight? Unknown. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Looking thru the attached webcast schedule, with lots of duplicates, http://www.radiohc.cu/audio_en_tiempo_real it breaks away from Spanish for only two English hours, at 20 UT, as on SW 15140; and at 11 UT when I unthink it be on any SW frequency. Also Esperanto Sunday at 1600 only; the daily afternoon lingo lineup of Arabic and Creole before English, French and Portuguese after. I suspect this arrangement be what also go into the several RHC FM frequencies on the island (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13564 S4-S6, 13632 S5-S6, 13768 S8-S9, 13836 S6-S7, 13904-trace, all approx., Feb 15 at 1533, extremely distorted FMish spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM transmitter at ~68 kHz intervals; vs high local line noise level. The FM mode confronts it better than when tuned in AM, and the S-readings are while in FM. Original is somewhat undermodulated and so are the spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 350, 341, 255 kHz, NDBs are still AWOL as of Feb 15, and unlikely to be repaired until record low temps abate --- in Enid minus 6 F so far and lucky to break zero as high today and tomorrow. Wind chill around minus 20 at noon in Enid. Next low to be minus 12 F. Fortunately no power outages here yet, tho the gas company warns of possible shortage, that being our main heating method. We have a few inches of new snow on the ground, and after a Monday pause, another snowstorm is forecast. We are well-stocked and staying in for the duration (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9980, Feb 15 at 1546 very quick check, TOMBS on WWCR is now running only 13 seconds behind 9955 WRMI; why? But 9980 only has another gospel huxter voice in the background, self-QRM, unseems also BS. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 341-MCW kHz, Feb 14 at 1442 UT, ND beacon OIN, 25 watts from Oberlin KS, mixing with something else ending in I, but cannot perceive it as local EI Enid, which had been AWOL since Feb 9. I try again at midday 1805 when there should be groundwave only; still a mix, one ending in -I and seems three letters. Checking dxinfocenter.com, I see DNI in Sherman-DeNIson, TX, just across the River Red and which has been heard rarely before; the next closest one (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2073 monitoring: confirmed Sunday February 14 from 2300:24 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.93, S7-S9; following IS & ID loop from tune-in 2257; no sign-on but 2300:06 bit of music fill. Also confirmed UT Monday February 15 at 0058, just in time the 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct. Also confirmed UT Monday February 15 at 0230 on WRMIs: 5800 VG S9+10/15 into Bonaire SDR, with some local? noise but not jamming; and 7780 good S9+15 into UTwente SDR; also WRN web/satcast. Next: 1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to William Hassig, Mount Prospect IL, for a check in US funds to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1030 kHz, Feb 15 at 1525 UT, at tune-in handy immediate ID as ``1030 AM KCWJ`` and country music; has SAH of almost 2 Hz, 116/minute. KCWJ is at edge of groundwave but maybe also skywave boost, from Blue Springs (Independence) MO; next closest 1030 is KBUF Holcomb (Garden City) KS; and don`t forget the one in NW AR: altho one wonders if far KCTA Corpus Christi TX or KTWO Casper WY could also be in the mix since they are 50 kW. FWIW, mwoffsets shows: 1030 1029,9965 KBUF (Holcomb, KS) [-1030.0003] 2020-11-24 1030 1029,9978 KFAY (Farmington, AR) 2018-12-07 1030 1029,9995 KCWJ (Blue Springs, MO) 2018-01-23 1030 1030,0000 KTWO (Casper, WY) 2021-01-20 1030 1030,0025 KCTA (Corpus Christi, TX) [-1030.0041] 2020-12-30 e.g., i.e., KCWJ and KBUF 3 Hz apart, tho measured two years apart. But KCWJ and KFAY were only 1.7 Hz apart (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15825, Feb 15 at 1542, JBA carrier, so WWCR-1 is back on air after outage awaiting some replacement part. Into Maine SDR it`s S9+15/30 --- and still squealing! So fixing that had nothing to do with the latest problem. How can anyone stand to listen to it? Doesn`t matter, as long as gospel huxters and/or far-right extremists be willing to buy the time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 1823 UT February 15 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Yeah, I know what you're probably thinking...impossible! I wouldn't have believed it had I not heard it with my own two ears and even though I did, I still have a hard time believing it.
On Thursday February 11, I had a fairly decent signal of classical music which is none other than CJRB Boissevan, Manitoba. I had some spanish language stuff bubble up which I assumed to be XEB Mexico City with was further fueled by some fairly LOUD classic hits music I heard a minute or two later.. Mexican news/talk/sports stations are known to play music at night. Boy was I surprised AND FLOORED when I heard the station ID. At 1026pm AK Time "Stoney End" by Barbara Streisand faded up very nicely and overtook the channel.. 45 seconds in classical music began to take over but if you listen at about 1 minute 12 seconds, you'll hear "Another hour of great music on 1220 CFAJ Saint Catharines, Niagra" Here's the audio of it: https://drive.google.com/file/d/184w9AlgT4NvJu7NDRNJd3HIem-bY2dcL/view?usp=sharing What makes this VERY interesting is .. what was CFAJ operating with? They had been testing with 1000 Watts non directional but Scott Fyb ush surmises they are on their 10kw 9 tower night pattern by now. Directly from the relevant Canadian databases, here's the 10kw 9 tower CFAJ night pattern: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UtHrS-64kYGL1LKyJKWkCpWbT65H1S4x/view?usp=sharing Paul Walker McGrath, Alaska CC Skywave and 5" DeBock AmazeBalls FSL Antenna _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
