** CANADA [and non]. Lots of NDBs, among many others skipped past this time, Feb 17 between 0737 and 0757 UT, not in order logged but rearranged by frequency; see also USA for some more at same session:
218-MCW, Feb 17 at 0757 UT, dash and RL, 980-watt NDB at Red Lake, Ontario 257-MCW, Feb 17 at 0755 UT, dash and XE, 100-watt NDB at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; mixing with JYR, 25 watts in York, Nebraska 269-MCW, Feb 17 at 0753 UT, dash and UDE, 50-watt NDB at Delta, Manitoba 274-MCW, Feb 17 at 0751 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt NDB at Pikangikum, Ontario, ``back on``. 1741 km = 1082 stmi, or 43.28 miles per watt 287-MCW, Feb 17 at 0749 UT, dash and ZWG, 50-watt NDB at Winnipeg / Stoney, Manitoba. Much rarer than plain old WG on 248 with 20x power 328-MCW, Feb 17 at 0745 UT, dash and YTL, 1000-watt NDB from Big Trout Lake, Ontario. 344-MCW, Feb 17 at 0740, dash and YC, 100-watt NDB from Calgary, Alberta, ``to be decommissioned 2021-02-25`` per dxinfocentre.com; mixing with TKH, see USA. 376-MCW, Feb 17 at 0737 UT, dash and YAG is JBA, 40 watt NDB from Fort Frances, Ont. 1407 km = 874 stmi or 21.85 miles per watt (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 4747 & 4783 approx., Feb 17 at 0241, ratchety spurblobs out of 4765 R. Progreso, extremely distorted // music, matching plus/minus 18 kHz. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6180, Feb 17 at 0245, CRI relay is S9+20/30, but extremely sup-torted, unreadable. Can`t tell if Brasil is underneath. 5910, Feb 17 at 0322, next CRI relay frequency is the same, implying same defective transmitter, S9+30/40. 11820, Feb 17 at 0322, second harmonic of 5910 is detectable, S7-S8 but there is so little modulation it seems dead; vs HNL of S6-S7. Comparing to the RHC Spanish frequencies in next few minutes: 11850, S9+20, suptorted but readable 11670, S9+10/20, slightly distorted 9650, S9+10, less modulation than 11670 9535, S8-S9 6060, S9+30/40, // 5040 5040, S9+20/30 And in English: 9700, S9/+10, // 6000 Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13560, JBA S4-S5 blob vs pt 15 pulser; 13631, 13769, 13840 JBA, spurs out of 13700-AM RHC at approx. 69-70 kHz intervals, Feb 17 at 1540. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. At 1653 UT Feb 17 I write to Brad Ferguson, KUCO GM: ``Subject: WCPE all the time --- Hi Brad, Missing KUCO own programming for third? day now. Wonder if again loss of STL? Staff can`t make it to studio? Hope everyone`s OK, and can be back to normal soon. Regards, Glenn Hauser, Enid`` -- He replies: ``Nobody in the studio, Glenn. I hope by Friday there will be enough clearing of the roads to get in. Also, glad you’re hearing us at all since we are at 5 kW ERP and have been for more than a week. Certainly glad we have CPE to fall back on! Brad`` Rated power is 100 kW, which even so is not enough to assure overcoming KHCC in Kansas; but no signal from there lately, no subfreezing tropo even if at nominal (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** U S A. 365-MCW kHz, Feb 17 at 0739 UT, NDB HQG which is 25 watts from HuGoton, SW corner of Kansas; I was tuned to 362-USB. Rarely heard tho not that far, 324 km = 201 stmi, or 8.04 miles per watt 344-MCW kHz, Feb 17 at 0740 UT, ND beacon TKH, which is 25 watts from Tallulah, Louisiana; also heard tuned to 342-USB. Mixing with YC but not for much longer: see CANADA 329-MCW kHz, Feb 17 0743 UT, NDB PMV, 25 watts at Plattsmouth, Nebraska, where the Platte River tributaries into the Missouri near Offutt AFB south of Omaha. See also CANADA [and non] for many more at same session (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 15810, Feb 17 at 1544, JBA carrier where normally is nothing, equal to the 15825 WWCR JBA carrier; therefore, assume WTWW-3 has been rarely activated. At 1548 I find WTWW-2 night frequency 5085 definitely on air with rock music, DJ ID, S9+10 and distorted, but WTWW-1 is not on 5830. So is 15810 // 5085? At first seems so with similar music, but 1552, 5085 is announcing, 15810 is not. I soon switch to remotes which should get 15810 better at greater than 1-megameter skip distance, but nothing at first to Maine or Holland. No sporadic-E over N America today. At 1622 here, 15810 still JBA carrier; but at 1637, UTwente pulls JBA jazz at 15810.001 and 1638 definite ID at S6-S8, ad something about health; is 5085 off now? At 1644 Ted is explaining that 15810 is on at full power and something about a 5085 problem? At 1655 I try KiwiSDR in Maine, getting 15810 at only S3-S4, better to UTwente at S7 to S8. Maine gets JBA carrier S3 on 5085. At 1700 an anti-commercial by Ted about eight wifi ``radios`` they have which will soon be dead. ``Never buy a Grace(???) product for the rest of your life!`` Not sure of the brand, but some other one has been widely publicized about to crash with no further software updates. Which one is that? I leave 15810 UTwente on in the background but soon after 1700 it`s nothing but noise --- off or fadeout? At 1644 UT I had notified the WOR iog about 15810, but no other reports of it received in the next sesquihour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 6200, circa 0100 UT Feb 17, routine check for ROCV via Bonaire SDR finds no signal. At 0618 Feb 17, Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, reports to the WOR iog: ``VENEZUELA, 6200, 50 watts, Radio Onda Corta Venezuela, ROCV, El Tigre. Actually out of the air as reported in the whattsapp group "Banda Corta Venezuela" Gregorio Kina, technical engineer of the station, due transmitter fault. Gregorio hopes to repair it next week`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1918 UT February 17 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
