Glenn Hauser logs February 21-22, 2021  View Printable Version
Monday, February 22 2021

Logs
** CUBA. 5040, UT Mon Feb 22 at 0240, RHC tropical, not in dead air,
managing to modulate for a change! So I can listen to `En Contacto`
which has just started, via Bonaire SDR. Main topic is generic info
about amateur satellites starting with OSCAR; a few QSLs on the air
and mention that ``Arnaldo Coro está nuevamente colaborando en el
programa``. I was listening to hear exactly what they said since
Claudio Galaz, Chile reported Coro was greeted on the previous airing
at 2344-2359 on 13740. So apparently Arnie is better; however he was
still missing from the closing credits. At 0252 onward to the medical
show (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY. Trying the weblink roger had provided for more Radio Amrum
programming at 1900-2030 Feb 21: stereo rock music at first, nothing
about Amrum and of course DJ in German only. 1911 finally something
about Amrum, 1915 mention nostalgie; 2025 again about Amrum (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2074 monitoring: confirmed Sunday February 21
from 2300:22 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160v; first at 2257, IS & ID loop at
S7-S9 via KB0FX SDR; in SAM mode carrier offset at first varying
around minus 62 Hz, i.e. 6159.938, but at 2319 recheck it`s minus
70-76 Hz, i.e. 6159.927v. Maybe a warmup factor, drifting down slowly
and slightly? I guess the WBCQ skews are due to crystal control, hard
to grind precisely, rather than frequency synthesis.

Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 22 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG S9+20 direct.

Also confirmed UT Mon Feb 22 at 0230 on WRMI 5800, S9+20/30 to KB0FX;
and 7780, S9+20 to Virginia SDR, but unusually not making it at all to
UTwente with a K-index of 4 - which nonetheless is not producing
auroral cx on MW, e.g. WCCO 830 still in well. Also confirmed on WRN
web/satcast. Next:

1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds,
to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9385, Feb 22 at 0020, WEWN English is unusually strong S9+20
with splash and artifacts down to 9375 especially around 9382.
Anything similar on the plus side obscured by 9395 WRMI (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** U S A. The #1 TV program I must never miss is `Sunday Morning`, on
CBS. When I first moved back to OK in the `90s, I discovered that the
CBS affiliate in OKC was not even airing it! Instead, gospel huxters:
after all, it`s --- Sunday morning. So I prevailed on a friend of mine
in Albuquerque to record and mail the tapes to me. Fortunately, KWTV
eventually started carrying it. Trouble is, the live airtime of 8-9:30
CT is unfortunately early for a night owl who would like to doze at
least until 9:00. Timer record? Yes, if you want to leave the cable
box and its spurs on all night; and KWTV cannot be depended on not to
shunt it to its substation KSBI if there be BREAKING NEWS or WEATHER.
Which meant I had to wake up by 8:00 to be sure to start the recording
on correct channel.

One week recently I did run the timer and got burned, so I had to go
after CBS SM on the website. As I reported at the time, it was
off-putting with rough interruptions for the same group of commercials
at every break. Even when started on time last week, my tape ran out
early so I had to get the last third from the website. Then I was
pleasantly surprised to find an adless stream which lasted only 62
minutes for the whole show and I could skip ahead to the last part I
had missed. So assuming that setup continue, I decide now to rely on
watching full episodes ASAP during following week at
https://www.cbsnews.com/sunday-morning/

OR NOT: now I find that altho there are clearly labeled linx to ``Full
Episode Feb 21``, you only get the first segment before it defaults to
``live`` CBSN. You have to keep going back to the SM page and clicking
anew on each segment, hoping not to miss anything altho they add up to
less than 62. OTOH one can easily skip occasional items about stupid
ballgames, which infested Superbowl Sunday. BTW, altho Suddenlink
cable provides many shows on demand from CBS and other networks, SM
has never been included (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 2959.839, Feb 22 at 0349, JBA carrier unseems birdie,
again suspecting a second harmonic from a Latin American MW 1479.9195
but nothing that far off in mwoffsets (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs February 21, 2021  View Printable Version

Logs
** CANADA. 18134-USB, Feb 21 at 1842, VA7VOC ID as ``Voice of
Canada``, i.e. not RCI. Lots of bio and photos at:

VA7VOC Canada flag Canada
Rob Hatch, West Kelowna, British Columbia Canada
https://www.qrz.com/lookup/va7voc'
I get a few daytime intracontinental sigs on 18 MHz, but seldom any
extras- (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 5040, Feb 21 at 0147, RHC with S9+10/20 of dead air yet
again. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6000, Feb 21 at 0155, S9+10/20 of suptorted music on RHC
English service. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 6180, Feb 21 at 0156, S9+10 of dead air except for occasional
modulation peaks trying to break thru, during CRI relay. Wiggle that
patchcord! Cannot hear any RNA Brasil if it be underneath. 6180
recheck at 0244 via Bonaire SDR, now there is soft undermodulated
Chinese at S9/+10, still no RNA. Something`s always wrong at
RadioCuba. After 0300, MWV Madagascar takes over 6180 and CRI/Cuba
moves to 5910 where the same defect usually continue, but not checked
tonight (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ECUADOR. 6050, UT Sun Feb 21 at 0247, surprisingly strong S9+10
from HCJB`s residual into Bonaire SDR, as to here it`s normally JBA.
Also surprising is a praise song in English; but 0255 Spanish
announcement and praise song in Spanish, no break at ToH nor
timesignal. 0313 M&H chatting in Spanish. 0403 YL lexuring on the
Quichua saying their culture is machista - to mix genders - i.e.
hombres dominating mujeres. This is the extended weekend broadcast
past weekday close circa 0230*v (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GERMANY [non]. 15215, Feb 21 from *1600:05, Issoudun site, FRANCE,
cuts on slightly late, JIP the much-anticipated annual broadcast of
Radio Amrum/Öömrang from the Frisian Islands along the NW German
coast. 1601 switches to English sign-on, saying it`s the tenth such
broadcast, announcer named Gerhardt. 1603 back to German mixed with
shorebird sounds. WRTH 2021 page 476 says this all began in 2006y, so
this must be another old playback? NO, soon proceeds to review of
2020, or rather last 5 years beginning in 2016, alternating languages,
so maybe mixing old with new stuff.

I am listening first via a Rochester NY remote, where there`s a VG
signal as this is 500 kW aimed at NYC. At 1614 I check my own rx where
it`s S9+10/20. Unfortunately I cannot give this my undivided attention
since only bits are in English mixed with Frisian and High German; and
the same hour is occupied by my usual monitoring of `Reliable Sources`
on CNN and the `Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival` on KUCO-FM, notably
with Brahms` Clarinet Quintet in d, Op. 115.

At 1623 they are conversing about Radio Caroline; 1635 contact info in
German, interview mixing Englisch; 1655 plug a continuous webstream
available, I guess from Frisia, and sign-off already in English with
credits, then German, to dead air at 1658.4, finished before ISS can
chop them off incomplete.

A semihour before, I reminded the WOR iogroup that this were nigh, and
many others noted their observations. I assume Richard Langley or
someone will archive the entire hour for more convenient hoering.

``most probably - roger`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** IRAN [and non]. 5980, Feb 21 at 0249, Spanish from LVRII is about
to close but QRM from something else about equal adding up to S9+10
into Bonaire SDR; also some residual pointless pulse jamming from
Cuba. 0251 into Iran IS. Else is other PJ = Punjabi from AWR via
AUSTRIA until 0300. If the collision be this bad in Bonaire, how much
worse in the Punjab? Evidently frequency management at TWR and IRIB,
at their own peril, are not paying attention to my monitoring, as I
reported the same several weeks ago. Of course, no R. Chaski, Perú at
this hour but Claudio Galaz, Chile, did report it in the morning
recently before and after 1200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 4045-USB, Feb 21 at 0145, pirate rockmusic, S8-S9;
0149 ``Wolverine Radio ---`` with the ``radio`` repeating multiply,
into SSTV, 0151 back to music. Many more logs here including several
captures of the SSTV, one pretty sharp; theme: ``lonely``
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,78326.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 375-MCW kHz, Feb 21 at 0715 UT, only one unusual log before
zonk, DS, which is 25-watt ND beacon at Searcy, Arkansas (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2074 monitoring: confirmed Saturday
February 20 from 2044:40 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO, VG via
nearby KB0FX remote.

Also confirmed Sat Feb 20 at 2230 on WRMI 9955, VG S9+10/15 via
Bonaire remote but some pulse jamming underaudible.

Also confirmed Sat Feb 20 at 2300 on WRMI 7780, noisy S7/S9 to UTwente
SDR; better to Maine SDR, S6/S9+10.

Also confirmed UT Sunday February 21 at 0427 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, MO,
about 13 minutes into so started circa ontime 0414, despite first
airing 15 minutes late; you never know. Usually well audible here at
night but rechecked via KB0FX remote Warrenton neighbor. Next:

instead of `Theatre Organ Under The Arch`, on WTWW-2 webcast, not
before or after nominal 0130V; or was its timing even further off?
