Some of my regular SDRs in USA are not DRM capable. Past nights there has been strong DRM there before 0800. However, by 0732 when I check it direct, DRM noise at S9+35, so *0730? Correxion: I did not quite make it thru the first month of 2024 without writing 2023 - at least I hope that`s the only time, subjecting my previous report as ``January 30, 2023`` - gh
** ANTARCTICA. Posted at 1928 UT Jan 31 to the WOR iog by Horacio Nigro: ``BREAKING NEWS [TODAY JANUARY 31] TEST BROADCAST OF LRA 36 NATIONAL RADIO ARCHANGEL SAN GABRIEL. Technicians Alejandro Petrecca and Claudio García, with the collaboration of personnel in Base Antártica Conjunta Esperanza, under the orders and supervision of Base Chief Lieutenant Colonel Juan Pablo Escobedo, are progressing in the repair of the Collins HF80 shortwave transmitter and announce the execution of test broadcasts. The test broadcasts will take place today, Wednesday, January 31, between 20:00 and 22:00 UTC on 15476 USB. Adjustment signals, identifications, and music will be transmitted with brief interruptions. We deeply appreciate the immediate dissemination of this information in groups and channels of Radio Listeners, DXers, and Ham Radio operators. We also look forward to receiving listening reports, audio and/or video recordings, and your feedback on this occasion via email to qslrae@gmail.com 73 and Thank you very much. Adrián Korol [translation via IA asking it for the best syntax, by Horacio Nigro, Uruguay. Source, direct message via WhatsApp]`` Manuel Méndez had first posted another version at 1919. Tnx to both! So I bring up 15476 USB on an Argentine SDR at 1954 and hear a bit of music test before silence, but resuming promptly at 2000 with ID and songs, S9+10 sufficient, as good a signal as before. At 2035 check I could not hear it direct, but several North Americans were getting it poorly. Spot chex later found only music except at 2151 the RAE multilingual ID reel. Unknown when RNASG may resume regular Saturday? broadcasts, with this old but repaired transmitter before the new 10 kW be installed (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5025, Jan 31 at 0741, R. Rebelde frequency on air but with congratulations on 25th anniversary of Habana Radio, so still relaying that FM station, as others also note. Wonder for how much longer and if this affect R.R. MW frequencies? Among countless ones, I am not getting any clear reception to compare, 670, 710, 1620 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 15140, Jan 31 at 1540, RHC music S9+25, overmodulated and distorted, splattering plus/minus 10 kHz or so. // 15230 much weaker but clearer S6/S7. At 1544 I check // 11760 which is similarly splattering, but not the spurblobs every 4.3 kHz as yesterday. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA [and non]. 17790, Jan 31 at 1537, about equal level mixture of WRMI in English and RRI in Romanian: a failure of HF coordination with a one-hour overlap, despite loads of vacant frequencies on the 16 mb. Perhaps radically different target areas did not energize any red flags: RRI Galbeni, 285 degrees for France, and WRMI 160 degrees for C & S America hoping it will also reach original target Africa, as before eastward antenna was hurricaned (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Jan 31 at 2300, token English from SNR after accurate timesignal, first biminute previewing later topic: interview about the Royal Collexions Gallery; 2302 news mainly about an amnesty vote (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.002, Jan 31 at 2311, VOT not off the air, S9+10 direct but needs more vs noise level. 2336 into UTwente when measured, S9+30/40 with `The Middle East and Turkey` about relations with Kuwait; 2342 music; 2346 ``always-by-your-side`` promo, 2347 `Sports Panorama` with the badax; buts off at 2351* I think early before any s/off could be uttered but I was not listening closely; uncovering of course the XJRTV understation in Chinese from another land of genocide, ChiCom-controled East Turkistan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 365 MCW kHz, Jan 31 at 0748, AA, 100-watt ND beacon at Fargo / Harwood ND. A few other regulars/occasionals JBA vs local noise level which is slightly less above 350 or so (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 35790, Jan 31 at 2312, JBA carrier presumed from R. Martí, Grimesland. Still hoping for enough mod to // it to fundamental bigsig 11930. On the R75 there are some stronger carriers in the 35s, probably birdies (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. ** COLOMBIA. 5909.96, Jan 30 at 0754, music S6/S8 direct, presumed Alcaraván Radio, now totally in the clear on signature off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA [and non]. 11760, Jan 30 at 1645 direct, RHC is modulating and flanked by wobbly spurs approx. 11764.35 and 11755.55. At 1725 now mod is mostly dead or broken up, and Maryland remote gets spur peaks approx. 11764.3 & 11755.7 -- something`s always wrong at RHC. At *1755.5, carrier comes on 11765, which would be BBC via Bulgaria, French from 1800. It`s much worse at 2308 check, multiple increasingly diffuse spurs out of 11760, all approx. at plus & minus 4.3X kHz: 11755.7 & 11764.3; then audible in range from 11720 to 11812. RNA Brasil 11780 is also flanked by them circa 11777.2 & 11785.8, but overcomes inbetweener calculated at 11781.5. Something`s very wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 6955 USB, Jan 30 at 2320, pirate M&W talking and laughing, S9+10 but hard to understand. Several others agree on this unID, and there were some SSTV images: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,124885.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA, 6925 USB, Jan 30 at 2322, pirate talk, sounds like emphatic preaching, to put it politely. Other reports of same, ID as Possibilities Radio: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,124884.0.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.002, Jan 30 at 2300, VOT not off the air, S9/+10 direct, better than yesterday, but too noisy and fadey. Not rechecked until 2352 into UTwente, as measured, when music goes to the canned s/off for the 1330 on 13635 only, and IS, S9+30/35 until 2355* chopoff uncovering the already audible XJRTV, East Turkistan, std denunciations (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 35790, Jan 30 at 2303, JBA carrier on the R75 with shortwire. Since Don Moman, AB, reported 3rd harmonic of R Martí, 11930, Grimesland NC, on Nov 4, I`ve been checking for this; and a bit later DXMAP shows a sporadic E MUF of 70 MHz about halfway between us. First time I`ve heard any trace of it. Guess what, my archive search shows it was also heard in UK on 3rd March, 2014! as in DXLD 14-10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2227 monitoring: ``as well confirmed on Monday 2033z on 3975 kHz on UK-SDR. http://wessex.zapto.org:8074/?f=3975.000amz7 Cheers, Lesley Illingworth, Germany`` Confirmed UT Tuesday January 30 at 0330, S7/S9 into Maryland remote; no initial uteblast. [WOR] I`ll See You on the Radio - Charles Osgood --- This week`s entire, almost, CBS Sunday Morning is in tribute to its late former host, Charles Osgood - who accomplished a lot more than that: https://www.cbsnews.com/video/sunday-morning-full-episode-1-28-2024/ CBS SM is my one absolutely-must-see program. Best viewed on the air, altho on the web the sesquihour shrinx to only 62 minutes - but you will be forced to endure commercial breaks even more repetitive than on the air, tho they may be muted. It`s all worth it, especially this week (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 7260, Jan 30 at 0748, W&M conversation, S7/S8 direct, presumed R. Vanuatu reactivated, first time heard since earthquake a week ago, related? Also reported about same time by Gary Pence, TX and Manuel Méndez, Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1218.1 kHz, Jan 30 at 0756, JBA carrier, het to 1220.00 stations. This time I still hear it on the DX-398 when the NRD-545 is off, and a very rough DF as NNE/SSW. That implies maybe from 1220 station in KS or IA. Circa 1805 UT, remotes on both sides of IA get nothing, and KS is busy. By 2123, SDR near Kansas City gets a weak 1220, not 1218+. Of course if could still be one of these with a different unit at night (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7295-7300-7305, Jan 30 at 0750, DRM noise S9+20/25. 24 hours ago this was askew centred about 7298 and noise did not sound quite right. Now it does, but whence? Remains unlisted at HFCC, Aoki, EiBi and drmrx. I suppose most likely is TDF France which has been running various pop-up DRM tests. By this late hour I`m almost asleep, computer is off so no checking remotes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0023 UT January 31

** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98 RC USB, here is the last word about LRA36 status, Jan 29 from Horacio Nigro:
```[WOR] [Antarctica] LRA 36 R Nac Arcángel San Gabriel, current status info from Adrian Korol Director of RAE, Argentina --- Hi DXfellows, The following text translated to English (thanks to Bard IA for the best syntax given from the original in Spanish) has just been released as a message on "DXnosaurs", my WhatsApp group coming from OM: Adrian Korol, Director of RAE, Argentina: ``Dear Colleagues, Alejandro Petrecca (Chief of the LRA1 Transmitter Plant) and Claudio García (technical operator of Radio Nacional El Bolsón and amateur radio operator with previous experience at LRA 36) finally arrived at Joint Antarctic Base Esperanza today. Their mission is to perform maintenance and optimization work on the audio chain, install a new console, and place the FM antenna and the tower that will be used for the new LRA 36 shortwave transmitter. Upon arrival, they discovered that the output stage of the Collins HF 80 transmitter, which is used to transmit LRA 36 programs on 15476 kHz, was burned out. They also found that the tower sections for the shortwave antenna and the audio console had not yet arrived at the base. LRA 36 broadcast regularly until January 13. Then, Juan Benavente, the architect of many if not all of LRA 36's achievements in recent years, was unfairly recalled. With Benavente's departure, the radio was left in the hands of unqualified people, which is evident by the fact that the transmitter burned out the day after Benavente returned. The causes of the fire are being investigated, but it is possible that it was due to the incompetence of those who remained at the base. Juan and Nicole Valdebenito (operator) know the sequences necessary to start up the transmitter by heart, but this was not the case with those who came after them. There are many issues surrounding this matter, but it would be very important to spread this news among colleagues around the world. At this time, Petrecca and García are installing the FM antenna for local coverage. It is estimated that the new Studio Console and audio distributor donated by Trialcom, thanks to a personal effort by Juan Benavente, will arrive at Joint Antarctic Base Esperanza by the end of next week. The output board of the transmitter is also being sent to replace the burned one and keep it in operation during February. If Juan Benavente had been coordinating, none of these situations would have occurred. Unfortunately, political favors promoted by the previous administration left LRA 36 abandoned in its most important mission, which is shortwave transmission. JUAN BENAVENTE must return to LRA 36 as soon as possible to sustain the radio until the arrival of the donated new transmitter. I estimate that if they agree and the planets align, we could resume LRA 36 shortwave broadcasts before the end of February. Thank you for spreading the above information. Adrian Korol Director of RAE`` 73 Horacio Nigro, CX3BZ, "La Galena del Sur", Montevideo, Uruguay``` (via gh, WOR) ** CUBA. 5025, Jan 29 at 0747, torch song in English, could it be Rebelde? No! program source is now ``Habana Radio`` as in distorted ID at 0749. 5025 reactivation first reported by John the VORW in FL, Jan 26 at 0319, presumably as Rebelde, but this ID was first reported by Bill Tilford, IN, Jan 28 at 0500. WRTH 2024 pp 214-215 shows it the main station for Ciudad de la Habana province, on FM only but also FM in some other provinces. Via Alan Roe, here is the program schedule and listen link; and undated 25th anniversary: http://www.habanaradio.cu/category/programacion/ Of course, R. Rebelde remains overkilled on MW all over Cuba yet gone now from SW, why? Nice to hear something else, HR, which is nowhere even on MW. Something`s odd if not wrong at RadioCuba. Michel FREMY explains: ``It was a special programme of Radio Rebelde which broadcast the ceremonies and concerts to mark the 25th anniversary of Habana Radio``. January 30 at 0158 check, it`s neither: 5025 off the air again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11756 & 11764, Jan 29 at 1637, roaring spurblobs flanking 11760. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Monday January 29, token English from SNR; after news, Lebanon correspondent, from 2313 interview about Lanzarote, Islas Canarias, at the tourism expo. VG direct (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. The reactivated `Letterbox` on V of Turkey appeared again this Sunday Jan 28 at 2317-2329 on 5960.002, which was not off the air, but VG S9+30/40 into UTwente, yet with JBA undercurrent of CCCCCCI. Mostly reception reports, QSL requests - no eQSLs, just by post but may take a while. From UK, 3 from India, Finland, Italy, USA, Lucas Bandura from BC Canada, Germany. Said would be back next week. With a little luck, this one will repeat at 0417 UT Monday on 6125, unchecked. Rest of 5960 broadcast unusually nothing but songs 2329-2354, s/off as if 1330 on 13635 only, semiminute of IS and off by 2354.5* uncovering XJRTV. Standard genocidal remarx about both (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.013, Jan 29 at 2303, VOT English JBA direct; and 9610 JBA carrier presumably China, since checking UTwente at 2333 when measured, VOT is VG and with heavy SAH since it`s so far off-frequency, presumably beating with East Turkistan, std. genocidal denunciation of both. Turkish music plays until 2340 `That`s Why` voiced by the badax, something about sunlight, claiming our Sun is at the center of the Milky Way rather than outskirts! 2346 ``with-you-every-hour`` promo, music. 2351 canned s/off reverts to the totally wrong one with current frequencies but all times called UTC are really local UT+3; fragment of IS chopped off at 2353*, finesseless, uncovering the 6CI. As for VP 5960 reception direct, this is likely to worsen on the average as we approach spring with more and more solarlight on the GC path, such that we shall wish they changed already before official A24 at Marchend; last year it was 11785 at 2200 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. It seems this is the only WRMI time for RCI, 0400-0500 UT Mondays, and it`s nowhere on the Programming page, so I search it out to: http://meowr.net/ I have no idea whether it`s always ambient, but there are playlists for 14 shows thru Oct. Also linx to an attempt by Guero to reorganize WRMI schedules: http://meowr.net/skedgrid into more usable formats but I`m afraid this is also confusing, and inaccurate per a few WOR times I find. Many blox are not specific, and lots of `TOMBS` - wonder where they got that? Anyhow, check it out (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 7292-7304 approx., Jan 29 at 0752, S9+26 of DRMish noise, but not exactly, and center would be about 7298. Nothing listed in DRM at this hour on 7290, 7295 or 7300, nor any likely jamming targets. A ham experiment? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0212 UT January 30
