(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, Nov 28 at at 0713, JBA carrier S3/S4, presumably WRMI,
while 9395 WRMI with SMTV is blasting in at S9+20/25. So something`s
very odd at Okeechobee. 9455 still silent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 23250 et al., replies to the WITK PA harmonix; Hugh Whelan:
``Hello all, Thank you Glenn and everyone for the helpful information
regarding the probable harmonic at 4650. To be clear, I am in West
Pittston (visiting wife's family for Thanksgiving), not at my home in
Fort Myers. This location is directly across the Susquehanna River
from Pittston. I brought my Airspy HF+ Discovery with me and put out a
60' long wire into a 9:1 Neolec balun. For what it's worth I also sent
an email to Wilkins with two recordings, but got an out of office
email saying the person was out for the week. Best, Hugh``

Arthur Pozner replies: ``This Kiwi SDR must be very close to the
transmitter. Most likely between 2 to 3 km distance. Night power is
listed as 500 W, but it is equally as bad. The assigned fundamental
(1550 kHz) frequency is S9+60. The strongest is the 3rd harmonic on
4650 kHz and S9+40. Practically all odd harmonics are pretty strong
and some are highly distorted. The even harmonics are very low (after
dark). Just wondering if the Kiwi and Airspy are both overloaded to a
point of passing fairly high level RF as it is so evident``

Rodney Johnson replies: ``Greetings From Minnesota! Either the carrier
exciter is overdriven to the point of putting out square waves, where
odd harmonics are stronger than even ones is typical, just look a
Fourier series of it:
https://mathworld.wolfram.com/FourierSeriesSquareWave.html
or the receiver front-end is severely overloaded, clipping the
incoming carrier in a square like fashion. Since an exciter running
like this would likely melt or start a fire, it is more likely the
latter. 73s --Rodney`` (via Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2271)

UNIDENTIFIED. 660, Nov 28 at 0730 UT, ``ESPN Radio`` ID dominating.
One might guess sports format WFAN NYC but NRC AM Log does not have it
with ESPN; rather only these two on 660: WDYZ Altamonte Springs FL, U4
3500/1000, and WBHR Sauk Rapids MN U4 10000/500 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 830, Nov 28 at 0737 UT, dead air, surely WCCO, but rock
steady at S9+37. Can`t imagine any local source for this. Some talk
audio JBA underneath (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2271)

From now and for an unknowntime, at least for 3 years, I will not use any radio except the remote SDRs forDXing. Recently we moved from the village back to the city in a space thatprohibits the use of desktop DXing, a place flooded by high levels of noise inthe LMHF bands. The radio is now used mostly for FM, for news listening.we runpolitically lively condition with always very interesting twits every day ..

Glenn Hauser logs November 27, 2024  View Printable Version
Thursday, November 28 2024

Logs
** BELIZE. 24950 USB, Nov 27 at 2312, V31CQ, Scott contacting KQ4PCR.
QRZ.com: ``V31CQ Belize flag Belize, Scott Davis, Blackman Eddy,
Belize`` - sounds like an American; yes: home call is K5PS. Visits
Belize in November, this year until 30th (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Nov 27 at 0737, JBA carrier. Cuba still off
5025. Presumably SIBC starting to show, late enough for nightprop from
there and ``early`` enough for me to be tuning (GLenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, 12030, 17715, 17755, Nov 27 at 2057 check direct, all
four REE frequencies are on, in decreasing order of strength here.
Likewise for token English from 2300 Wednesday, previewing topix about
a book on Black Friday objects, and about Beethoven, S9+40/50. 2302
news leading with Israel/Lebanon ceasefire (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.004-, Nov 27 at 2259, VOT not off the air,
S9+10 direct but same as noise level so insufficient. 2323 into
UTwente when measured, S9+35/45, Efsun concluding `Unexpected Twists
of Fate`. 2330 next check one of their commentaries about US elexion.
2340 music. 2345 `Sports Panorama`. 2352 multi-lingual ID filler reel
starts but cut short rather than entire biminute. 2353 s/off and IS to
2357.6* uncovering Chinese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2270 monitoring: confirmed UT
Wednesday November 27 at 0030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003-, S8/9+10
into UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Wednesday November 27 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20
into Peoria.

``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of
Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long
wires in the trees. Hello Glenn: WRMI, World of Radio #2270,
congratulations, Happy Thanksgiving Day, USA. 9395 kHz, QRN, 0045
ID heard, 0031, 0044, 0058 (55433-4), (55434), 0059, November 27 UTC
2024 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)``

Also confirmed Wednesday November 27 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany,
3975.003-, S8/S9 into UTwente, but JBA with theme recognizable. MUF
must be way down as sig is normally good there.

Also confirmed Wednesday November 27 at 2200 on WBCQ, 7489.95 approx.,
VP signal direct but at least somewhat propagating in wintry conditions.
Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S;
1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975.

As a noncommercial service, financial support welcome such as a

(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 23250, Nov 27 at 1855, extremely distorted but strong talk,
S9+10 into Duryea PA KiwiSDR. 1858 WITK ID and Town Hall News.
Checking this because Hugh Whelan reported an unlisted station on
4650, which Arthur Pozner then IDed as WITK [not WIZK my typo],
Wilkes-Barre PA on its 3rd harmonic of 1550! as heard into same
Duryea remote, which is only about 10 miles away. Looking at
the waterfall, there are lines throughout the spectrum at least to 31
MHz, correlating with 1.55 MHz spacing, so I pick this frequency which
is the *15th* harmonic of 1550. Have not tried direct, but may well be
propagating widely on multiple harmonix. Also heard on many of the
lower ones spot checked. I`ll calculate them for convenience: 3100,
4650, 6200, 7750, 9300, 10850, 12400, 13950, 15500, 17050, 18600,
20150, 21700, 23250, 24800, 26350, 27900, 29450, 31000...

Not until 2303 do I get around to checking many of those direct:
nothing except a JBA carrier on 9300 which is probably ChiCom jamming
against Sound of Hope. WITK, in Pittston PA, not Wilx-Barre, per NRC
AM Log, U4 10000/500 watts so by then would have powered down with
different antenna pattern. Still worth checking some of those possible
harmonix in daytime. Hugh`s original report started, ``From West
Pittston, PA I heard a strong signal at frequency 4650 of a man
preaching at 14:16 UTC, later followed by a clear ID that this was
coming from the Wilkins Radio Network.`` It`s not clear if Hugh was
*in* West Pittston PA, was using a remote somewhere, or heard it
direct at his location of record, Ft Myers FL; which? W. Pittston is
even closer to Duryea, both NE of W-B. NRC shows licensed to Pittston,
not West Pittston, and address in Exeter. Pittston, West Pittston,
Exeter and Duryea are close to each other about halfway between
Scranton and W-B, slightly closer to the latter. Radio-locator gives
station address as Wilkins R Network, Spartanburg SC, so O&O? Day and
night transmitter locations are slightly different by one second of
latitude (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
