Glenn Hauser logs December 7-8, 2020  View Printable Version
Wednesday, December 09 2020

Logs
** CHINA. 6075, Dec 8 at 1554, CNR1 in Mandarin talk S9/+10, again
today the unexpected SSOB, and // weaker 6180 and 7665 --- the lower
pair jamming R Taiwan International, the upper vs Sound of Hope
relaying R Free Asia, *per Aoki/NDXC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOOR)

** PHILIPPINES. 6150, December 7 at 2234, something in English, fair
signal, from Europe? No, HFCC shows this hour only is BBCWS via USAGM
Tinang; so it`s circa grayline (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 1521.0 kHz, Dec 8 at 2224, JBA carrier making het
against domestic 1520.0 stations, KOKC talk and something with music.
Gone before 2230 but could not catch a hard turnoff; presumed Duba 2
megawatt which does close at 2230* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 426-MCW kHz, Dec 8 at 0739 UT, ND beacon UV, which is 25
watts from Oxford - Tunng, Mississippi. Whence that name? ``Tunng are
an English folk music band. They are often associated with the
folktronica genre, due to the electronic influences evident in some of
their work. Tunng are often noted for their use of strange
instruments, including sea shells. Wikipedia`` --- what a weird
correlation (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13565-CW, Dec 8 at 1500, HIFER beacon K6FRC is JJBBA, 1.8
milliwatts from Patterson CA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 18140-USB, Dec 8 at 1510, W7RAT is concluding a QSO with
another --RAT; this one is in Palm Desert CA, but explains he is
transmitting 1.5 kW remotely from his other home in chilly Portland OR
by computer control. Many of his family members are also hams. Guess
what`s on his QSL card? ``W7RAT MICHAEL I BLOOM, PORTLAND, OR 97225
USA``. Then worx a W0 in Missouri, too close to hear here.

18120-USB, Dec 8 at 1513, NY3B calling CQ over and over, first heard
on 18112-USB announcing QSY to here. ``NY3B, STEVEN E STRAUSS,
OREFIELD, PA 18069-9043 USA`` --- qrz.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2063 monitoring: confirmed UT Tue Dec 8 at
0100 on WRMI 7780, VG to UTwente.

Also confirmed UT Tue Dec 8 at 0330 on WRMI 5800, VG to TWR Bonaire
KiwiSDR. Next:

2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:
http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to Jack Amelar, NY8D, Lowell MI, who says, ``Glenn,
Thank you for many years of WOR and loggings which I have enjoyed and
used. Enclosed find my contribution to help keep your service to the
monitoring hobby going``; with a check in US funds on a US bank to:
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to:
woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9955, S9+10, Tue Dec 8 at 1550, WRMI extended past 1500*
with TOMBS, not only for Sabbathdays, // 9395 & 9455, just as Brother
Scare is bragging about his WW SW coverage with unfamiliar
frequencies, 17765 at 13-14, 9460 after 14; 13810 to ME, another one,
and 15495, to continue until ``end of this year``, then some changes.
None of these are on the ``current`` sked dated August 2020. Either
something very new, Bulgaria? Or more likely something very
old/imaginary --- but then so is everything he pontificates (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17790, Dec 8 circa 1510, no signal from WRMI, nor expected,
as the gamer-special Dec 7 was a one-time event, after the Dec 6
tests. Here`s the answer to my recollexion of something like this
before: ``Checking my log book, I had a logging on 20 April 2014 from
0400 to 0500 UT on 7570 kHz of STF Radio International. Apparently, 10
// frequencies at 100 kW were to be used and was IDed as a "1-hour
million-watt special." I have a note that the program did not go out
on three of the planned frequencies. The program (which I recorded)
was a combination of seemingly synthetic voice, music, and digital
signals, which I decoded using Fldigi. -- Richard Langley`` -- Kenneth
Vito Zichi also recalled it with more details on 6 and 21 April 2014y
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17775-, Dec 8 at 1508 & 1546 chex, no signal from KVOH. Ray
Robinson followed up his explanation at 2151 Dec 7:

``Power has once again been shut off to the KVOH transmitter site up
on Chatsworth Peak, and it is extremely windy up there. Edison says
the outage is likely to continue until Wednesday morning [Dec 9].
Latest news report below. Ray.`` Viz.:

More than 10,000 SoCal Edison customers without power amid heightened
fire danger --- By Mary Stringini

http://foxla.com/news/more-than-10000-socal-edison-customers-without-power-amid-heightened-fire-danger
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1370, December 8 circa 1730 UT as I approach about halfway
to west end of Enid on US 412, a caradio signal starts to appear here,
sounds like Rush, probably KGNO Dodge City KS reactivated, which is a
Rush dittohead, but no ID. As I go back east, lost again to 1390 KCRC
desensitizing. For many months there had been *no* daytime signal from
KGNO even away from Enid/KCRC, tho AFAIK it did not enjoy a `silent
STA`.

1370, Dec 8 at 2227 UT on PL-880 rotatable, and NRD-545 with N-S
shortwire, at least two talk stations mixing but dominant one is from
south, ``Talk 13-70, The Right Source``; back to Sean Hannity; 2231
CBS news outro; 2233 I-35 traffic in central Texas, so it`s certainly
KJCE, Rollingwood, Austin market. ``The Right Source`` part of slogan
is not in the NRC AM Log.

Another report of KGNO has now appeared in CDXR of IRCA DX Monitor:
``KGNO KS, Dodge City. 12/4 briefly fair to poor with interference.
0302 UT with “Sports on your station? KGNO Dodge City. We are KGNO
Dodge City” ID, and legal IDs at 0304 and 0310 UT. [Ward Elliott,
Dallas TX dwrd759@yahoo.com PL 600, PL 380, PR-D5, PR-D4, ATS-803A,
TCF-Antenna, MFJ-16010, 75’ random wire]`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

This report dispatched at 0202 UT December 9

Glenn Hauser logs December 6-7, 2020  View Printable Version
Monday, December 07 2020

Logs
** CUBA [and non]. 13765, Dec 7 at 1455, RHC spurblob with F# tone
signature vs something in AM, listed as R. Farda via Lampertheim,
Germany. Out of 13700-AM transmitter, and a match about 13635 at only
S2. The blobs are far weaker than their usual level; something`s
always wrong at RHC. Also second-order trace at 13570, minus 2 x 65.
All still there at 1550 recheck (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 15230, Dec 7 at 1545, RHC is S9+20 and JBM, while // 15140 is
S9+10 but louder, merely undermodulated. Something`s always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ERITREA [non]. 17545.055V, Dec 7 at 1544 check, NO signal from
Bayto Yaikl, via France? So mark off another DOW it is not airing,
Mondays (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH. 7580, Dec 7 at 0710, algo JBA here as I have just
found WRMI absent from 7570. Nothing in HFCC --- but EiBi shows VOK in
Japanese; for his list you don`t have to pay dues to appear (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAO TOME. 7325.034, Dec 7 at 0708, BBCWS in English but
off-frequency. Of course, HFCC shows relay this hour via USAGM
Pinheira, which is riddled with offfrequenciness --- e.g. 6080v for
VOA. Previous BBC hour 06-07 is via Woofferton, likely much closer to
.000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TIBET [non]. 12125, Dec 7 at 1547, algo poor S3-S7, scheduled as
RFA in Tibetan this hour only via TINIAN, NMI, so could also be CNR1
jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2063 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
December 6 at new time of 2300v on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160v: at first no
signal at a Rochester SDR --- off or too close, skipping over? A51
webcast: rock music at 2300 so started late, noticed me in progress at
2314, ended at 2333:32 so must have begun about 2304:32 or a bit
earlier considering internet delay. Meanwhile direct I am able to hear
an S5-S7 signal and measure it on 6159.931V slightly wobbling.
Meanwhile, 7490v is good at S9+10 with `UBMP` --- I would rather not
be on at same time as Uncle Bill, but his first semihour normally
repeats as filler 25 hours later, UT Tue 0000-0030.

WOR 2063 also confirmed UT Mon Dec 7 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct.

Also confirmed UT Mon Dec 7 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, VG S9+5/15 to
UTwente with occasional storm crashes but per Blitzortung none closer
than NW Italy, W Mediterranean, and a big storm front along the W
coast of Greece.

Also confirmed UT Mon Dec 7 at 0230 on WRMI 7780, again VG to UTwente
SDR; 5800 S9+20/30 into TWR Bonaire SDR; also almost synch on WRN
webcast.

Missed checking UT Mon Dec 7 at 0430 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear it, and
how was the jamming?

Also confirmed Monday Dec 7 from 1900:50 on IRRS 7290 via Bulgaria,
initially weak via UTwente, loudens by 1905 to S9+15/25, usual raspy
audio with splat from 7280 Vietnam, but 7295 East Turkistan is still
off for maintenance. Intact until 1929:45 as my last three words ``a
standard disclaimer`` chopped off after ``with``, to be replaced by
dead air before the IRRS ID. As usual, after open carrier, sign-on
came at 1859:50, FSN headlines at 1900:25 approx., then WOR. Next:

0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE
0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 5800 to SSE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to Jack Amelar, NY8D, Lowell MI, who says, ``Glenn,
Thank you for many years of WOR and loggings which I have enjoyed and
used. Enclosed find my contribution to help keep your service to the
monitoring hobby going``; with a check in US funds on a US bank to:

** U S A. 7570, Dec 7 at 0710, this WRMI is off, unusually instead of
all-night Brother Scare, still to be heard on 7730 et al. (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 17790 & 7570, Dec 7 at 1501, special WRMI broadcast as first
heard testing yesterday. Instead of 17-note IS, now 3 notes repeating
every 48 seconds for 7 seconds, G-Bb-A above Middle C as confirmed on
my keyboard, and in between 5-digit number groups in YL synthetic
English, with Bosnian? accent. The letter G, and only G, is sometimes
interspersed with 4 numbers, especially the first group after the
notes. Ivo Ivanov earlier copied a few numbers, but not same ones I am
hearing now. Jeff told us this would start at 1300 today, but Ivo says
it did not until 1350; and Steve Howe in VT from 1351.

17790 here is again very strong S9+10/20, so I do suspect it is one of
the transmitters hookable to a 315-degree antenna aimed right at us.
Like WRMI-11 on 7570 which is only S9/+10 in daytime after all; i.e.
17790 being WRMI-12 which is on 5850 at night but mostly off the air
daytimes 11-23 UT. If not 315, then 285, used by WRMI-13 on 7730 at
night. I keep listening, but do not bother to copy the numbers which
are not going to be useful except for insiders.

At 1600 a Bosnian? ID; supposed to quit at 1700, but still going and a
late canned ID again at 1705, 3-tones resume, and NOW switch to
numbers in Russian! Bosnian is very similar, but this sounds like pure
Russian, e.g. ``odin`` for ``one``, not ``jedan`` as in Bosnian. Until
1720 another Bosnian? ID and then the 17-note IS resumes as heard
yesterday but not until now today. I am monitoring 17790 only which is
stronger here, even on the portable ATS-909. That continues past 1750+
until final ID at 1800* and off.

Here`s a clip I recorded during the test Dec 6 at 1859 on 17790;
17-note IS before and after ID in Bosnian, which cut off a few words
of Spanish first; does anyone recognize the tune?

Meanwhile, this came to the WOR iog at 0423 UT Dec 7:

``For anyone interested in further information regarding this
transmission, this broadcast seems to be set up to promote a new video
game - I found a number of videos on YouTube today from Video Game
related channels that were sent a promotional package by a video game
company. It included a Tecsun PL-880 receiver and instructions to tune
to the frequency 17790 kHz. It seems like they were going with a "Cold
War" or "Numbers Station" theme.

Examples if one wishes to skim through:

All the best, John (VORW Radio International)``

IIRC, there was another video-game special broadcast a few years ago,
on WRMI? Can anyone find details about that? We still don`t know
exactly who is behind this new one. Waiting for Jeff to explain.

Then he replies at 2003 UT December 7:

``Glenn: Yes, the last set of numbers was in Russian. I can’t think
what other similar broadcast you’re referring to. You’ll have to jog
my memory. Anyway this one is not related.

These broadcasts were made by the company that sells the Call of Duty
video games. I don’t have all of the details, but it has something to
do with the promotion of a new Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War game.
Specifically spy numbers stations. Certain gamers throughout North
America were provided with shortwave receivers and they had to monitor
the numbers and get clues for the game. I guess the same principle as
the old Cold War spies. There may be some YouTube videos online about
this; I’m not sure. Jeff``

We are forced to go to disgraced FB to find any new programming
