** ANDORRA [non]. 6180, R. Andorra tribute special via AUSTRIA, continued from previous report starting at *1700 April 12:
Mostly unfamiliar pop songs in French, obviously from the 70s/80s. Tho playlist includes half a dozen in English by big names, which I never catch except for one I don`t recognize either, checking in occasionally from 1730 to 2030. Also some long segments interviewing DJ. Apparently a count-up rather than count-down, spoiler alert! Plays leading songs in the Top 50 at first, and by 2000 UT working down into the 40s, heading toward finale by 2045. At 2037, just in case, I check it direct to here, but still too early, no signal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CANADA. 2749-USB, April 13 at 0254 UT, Canadian Coast Guard robo-YL, not with marine weather but message about COVID-19 travel restrixions against US vessels? entering Canadian waters. As usual, hard to copy it clearly. Nothing on NL frequency 2598-USB now but 2749-USB would be VCS-21, one sesquikilowatt from Halifax starting at 0240; not listed as bilingual at dxinfocentre.com but switches to robotic French at 0257.7 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, April 13 at 0226, RHC is S8-S9, JBM so I can barely decide it`s Spanish, instead of English which has shown here by mistake before. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 6000, S9+30, April 13 at 0233, and 6165, S9+20/30 both with equally sufficient RHC English modulation for a change (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** PERU. Tnx to this tip on the WOR iog at 0017 UT April 13 from Lúcio Otávio Bobrówiec, Brasil: ``Spanish talks on 4752 kHz seems a LA station. 4764, Huanta 2000 silent for some 3 weeks. Congratulations Glen! 73 Lucio, Brasil`` --- Got it immediately at 0030 via Bonaire SDR on 4752.15 - Spanish with reverb, live remote? Promoting a ``Casa de Campesinos``, --- ``aquí en Perú`` --- with phone 940-99-77-28. Brief song, then mentions Huamanga, another phone 996+. 0035 suddenly off leaving CODAR. Not on 4764 either. Looks like R. Huanta 2000. Website is: https://radiohuanta2000.com/ not as in WRTH with fm after 2000. Audio en Vivo does not work. On page are other phones starting with 933, 960. Tuned around but not found on 4747 or elsewhere - just 4775 Tarma, and horrible spurs from 4765 Cuba about 4783 and 4747 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 11940, Monday April 12 at 2203, REE token English underway, best here on SAm frequency as 17855 to NAm is not propagating at all, or equally likely, off. 15520 JBA; 11685 is second best with no RTTY. Alison Hughes with a few news stories: elexion in Ecuador with large showing by indigenous write-in candidate; Israeli cyberattack on Iran nuclear; Yemen vs Sa`udi Arabia; Myanmar; Gagarin in space anniversary. Then another YL with feature on ``magical trio`` of art musea in Madrid. By now 11940 is fading down; if NAm were still on 9690 it would remain loud & clear. 2224 Justin Coe concludes with a Blues concert, something new in Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9830, April 12 at 2202, no RTTY to bother VOT in English, but still no good, undermodulated on S9/S6 signal. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 6205.039v, April 13 at 0138, ROCV, poor only noisy S6-S7 into TWR Bonaire SDR, romantic music with loud noise bursts every few seconds, which seem to be transmission or feed defect rather than QRM. 0143.5 Morse code ID cuts thru but barely readable talk including ``R-O-C-V``, back to vocal music. Still the same past 0208. At 0235 I check 6205 direct to here: as usual ROCV achieves no more than a JBA carrier --- but the noise bursts hit S8, *much* stronger now, as loud as they were in Bonaire, while ROCV can`t surpass the background noise level of S2-3. Therefore the bursts *are* external QRM against poor ROCV, not its own defect. Further, I can now tell that the noise is on LSB only, inaudible in USB. At 0310, Bonaire is still running as I hear another ROCV ID in code and voice go by, continuing VP with the noise bursts, also LSB only. Maybe time for another QSY? Has ROCV been off? Last report of it I find was April 4 by Manuel Méndez, Spain. I had not sought it lately; my last log was April 1 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0348 UT April 13 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Monday, April 12 2021
** ANDORRA [non]. 6180, April 12 at *1700, Moosbrunn on abruptly with anthem? by band, ID as R. Andorra in Spanish, rock music, French-speaking DJ. This is the much-publicized 40th anniversary salute to a long-gone SW station, arranged by Christian Milling of Germany`s shortwaveservice, who informs the WOR iog:
``Special program announcement: As some of you know, the legendary Radio Andorra was taken off the air these days 40 years ago in 1981 by the government. Some programs that were prepared couldn't be aired, most of the material is lost. Luckily, the playlist of the last planned hit-parade from April, 12th 1981 survived, thus it was never broadcasted. 40 years later this will finally be done. Next Monday, April, 12th 2021 at 17 UTC, exact 40 years later we will complete history. The show will be hosted by a DJ that started his career in Radio Andorra end of the 1970s. The program will be in French and broadcasted via Moosbrunn on a steerable LogPer Antenna directed at 270° towards the centre of France. All French-speaking countries in Europe should be covered in good quality.`` VG S9+40 signal at UTwente, and assumed zero signal direct at midday here. This is to last 3 or maybe 4 hours today. 1741-1751 pause for interview about the DJ and his subsequent career. Could not catch his name, which was mentioned only once in advance discussion I have not yet relocated. There really should be some Catalan if not Spanish, English. Here`s some Catalan with the playlist of 50+songs, found by roger: https://www.bondia.ad/cultura/lultim-hit-parade-de-radio-andorra My 1960 QSL card for R. Andorra, 5972, can be viewed, #14 & 15 at http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html (Glenn Hauser, HBD 76, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [non?]. 11675, April 12 at 1504, S9-S7 in Chinese, then music, definitely only one signal but this time it smax of RFA as scheduled this hour only via SAIPAN, rather than of a CNR1 jammer (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 11850, April 12 at 0132, RHC is S9/+10 of dead air, Spanish or English? Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 5990, April 12 at 0536, undermodulated RHC English S9+30 instead of 6000! Presumably confused while 5990 is intentional earlier for CRI relays at 23-01. Aoki shows both from Quivicán, but must be separate units as both scheduled between 00 and 01. In any event, RHC still gets Mali 5995 adjacented from one side or the other if after 0600. Now at 0536 I check the other RHCs: 6060 S9+ same undermodulation, and NO buzz for a change; 6100, S9+10/20 but undermod; 6165, S9+10/20 but noisy. 5040, S9+20/30 even English. So here we have The Cuban Five all in axion. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13490-trace, 13560 vs local ISM pulsing, 13630; 13769, 13839, 13909, 13979-trace, April 12 at 1419, FMish spurblobs but with no program mod, just F# tones, out of 13700-AM RHC Spanish. Not in the order tuned, at 69-70 kHz intervals. All gone by 1500. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA [non?]. 9805.4-CW, April 12 at 1510, beepstrings much stronger than residual jammer noise against OCB which is currently on 9805 only at 10-13. They are continuous at steady rate of 100/minute but don`t last a full minute between pauses. Individual strings last anywhere from 22 to 35 to 57 beeps, per three different counts; and during each string there is one out-of-step pause. These continue to be associated with after-hours Cuban jamming frequencies, as recently heard near 11860, 11930, 13605. SAWA. This also reminds me of the old Soviet jammers, which would ``ID`` by two CW letters at least once a minute; the one which still stix in my mind was ZG: --../--. Probably secret random coding, but now that reminds me of Zhigulevsk, except Zh is not the same letter as Z. I researched some websites about Soviet jamming, a few mentioning the ID setup, but not ZG. But I digress (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2081 monitoring: confirmed Sunday April 11 from 2000 UT on IRRS via Challenger Radio, Italy, 594 kHz, as heard via nearby Noale KiwiSDR, S9+15 with Moroccan het on plus side so tuned to LSB; also audible at UTwente, S9+10 but noisier, autonotch deletes the het. WOR 2081 also confirmed Sunday April 11 after 2200 on Area 51 webcast --- but cannot find any modulation from WBCQ 6160, tho remote detects the carrier, noisy at Rochester offset -92 Hz (while 7490 -66 Hz with UBMP is OK). Here I measure it on 6159.91, carrier with no audio. By 2343 recheck via Rochester and Alexandria, now it`s musicking. Tsk2: last week on A51 it was previous week`s WOR; this week no SW mod. At 0124 Apr 12 remeasured here on 6159.910. Also confirmed Sunday April 11 at 2300 on WRMI 7780, S9+5/15 to UTwente. Also confirmed UT Mon Apr 12 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, good direct. Missed checking Mon Apr 12 at 0230 on WRMIs 5800 & 7780; anyone? Next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Randy Stewart, Battlefield MO, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com Not necessarily in US funds, and says, ``Glenn, it's about time I contributed to your (virtually) lifelong efforts on behalf of DXers!`` One may also contribute, by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 3215, Apr 12 at 0546, WWCR is S9+20 of dead but noisy air instead of TOMBS, now more apropos a monicker than ever. 4840 is OK with oldtimeradio; 5890 with TOMBS like still on 5850 WRMI. I notice that a lot of times now, they are playing BS attempting to sing, sometimes lapsing into glossolalia. That must mean he`s divinely inspired with godspeak! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED.13557.7-LSB, April 12 at 1417, 2-way in Spanish, impinging into the ISM band (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1759 UT April 12 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** ALGERIA [non]. 13815, April 11 at 1822, S6-S7 Qur`an: RTA via FRANCE, only thing ever on this frequency, this hour only per Aoki (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, reply to my report of no signal from LRA36 when I checked after 1530 Wed April 7, but was heard earlier, when? ``From: Giovanni Lorenzi --- Hi Glenn, the time of listening LRA36 15476 kHz on April 7 was 1400-1530 UT: first I have used CX8BIT SDR kiwi in Montevideo Uruguay with signal rating SINPO 35555 and after SDR in Caruaru (Brazil) PY2PE and finally LU4EEC in Argentina Buenos Aires with poor signal. 73 de Giovanni`` (Glenn Hauser, WOR) ** CUBA. 6060, April 11 at 0623, RHC English still with humbuzz, but we have choices between the other two: 6100 good S9+20, 6165 same level but less modulated. 6000 off already. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MALI. 13799.44v, April 11 at 1833, JBA carrier with trace of Arabic talk, I can now confirm as spur out of S9+35/40 Bamako 13685 relay at 1830-1930 only of CRI, as heard yesterday on exactly the opposite side of 13685, and again today. 13570-USB tuned in by 1828 on UTwente SDR, nothing, but by 1830 I detect the het, and tho JBA carrier, get UTw AM Synch to lock onto it at 13570.735, and it`s slowly drifting downward by the Hz to 13570.700 as transmitter warms up. Fundamental with same behaviour, 13685.075, down to 13685.060 etc. And the upper spur: 13799.444 down to 13799.431, etc. During a 60-second span, this one loses 2 Hz, and I assume all will eventually become mores stable (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SWEDEN [non]. 15510, April 11 at 1819, African language mentions Obama, S9/+10. Aoki shows it`s Radio Sama = IBRA Radio via Woofferton UK in Fulfulde this semi-hour, preceded by Tigrinya, followed by Arabic (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U K. Woofferton relays of R. Sama - see SWEDEN [non]; of VOA, see USA [non] ** U S A [non]. 15660, April 11 at 1820, language mentions Amnesty International in English, S9+10 with music background. Aoki shows it`s VOA Amharic this hour via Woofferton UK. VOA also on 15660 from various other sites before and after this hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2081 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday April 11 at 0331 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, about 3 minutes into so started about 0328. S9+20/30 received here direct. Next: 2000 UT Sunday IRRS 594-Italy [changed from 2100] 2200vUT Sunday WBCQ 6160v Area 51 to WSW 2300 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7730 to WNW 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 5800 to SSE 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Randy Stewart, Battlefield MO, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com Not necessarily in US funds, and says, ``Glenn, it's about time I contributed to your (virtually) lifelong efforts on behalf of DXers!`` One may also contribute, by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Sun April 11 at 0030 & 0045 chex, WTWW-2 rock music distorted instead of `Theatre Organ Under the Arch`, so no need to go to the webcast, which is still blocked as a dangerous site anyway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 13845, April 11 at 1821, WWCR is S9+10 here with YL huxtress, presumably PMS, discussing circumcision; while 15825 is usual JBA carrier. Therefore the sporadic E MUF is somewhere between them; an hour later there`s a 25 MHz patch over NW Georgia on DXMAP (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VANUATU. 11835, Ron Howard replied April 8 to my report of how R. Vanuatu sounds: ``Hi Glenn, Normally RV does start the news about one minute or so after the hour. Their intro is indeed always with the same theme music; consisting of indigenous horns and drums, making for a very unique sound; ending the news with a different theme music. Ron`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1943 UT April 11 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

A-21 SCHEDULES
Most versions have now been updated and are linked from WOR homepage: http://www.worldofradio.com ** NORTH AMERICA. 6885-USB, April 11 at 0000, pirate music at S9, tnx to tip from Mickey Delmage in AB and Harold Frodge in MI; 0014 ``You are listening to MRI, Mix Radio International`` and into YL cover of ``Wichita Lineman``, certainly not Glen Campbell; 0020 another announcement, echoey about requests? but I was distracted. LOTS of logs here, apparently has been on all day since 1537 April 10, first on 6890-USB https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,80142.0.html Well heard even in the daytime as far as Alberta and BC. As for `Wichita Lineman` one logger says it`s by Paula West. I/we always assumed this was about the city of Wichita, Kansas --- but wait, if she`s a lineman for the *county*, that would be ``Sedgwick Lineman``. But wait2, there is a Wichita county in Kansas, west central, tiny population of about 2K. But wait3, there is one other Wichita County, the one in Texas around Wichita Falls, 200+K. Not to be confused with Washita, 11K in Oklahoma; or Ouachita, 26K in Arkansas. I am not the only one questioning this song: https://americansongwriter.com/glen-campbell-wichita-lineman-behind-the-song/
Peter B., about a year ago: ``I like this song a lot but the lyrics don’t make any sense. He’s searching for an overload? What does that mean? Jimmy has said this was about telephone lines but when a phone network becomes overloaded, it doesn’t happen out on the lines, it happens back at the phone company. There’s nothing a lineman can do to fix it. And why does he work for the county and not the phone company? And if he works for the county, why is he naming himself after a city? He’s apparently way out in the middle of nowhere but calls himself the Wichita lineman. And what kind of strain do you get from snow? Enough snow with wind will cause lines to come down but is there a particular section he knows about that’s prone to this (and not the rest of the network)? And while the line “And I need you more than want you” is interesting, it is far from romantic. Very confusing.`` Much more: https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-40861326 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** ROMANIA. 9730 & 9550 & 7420 & 7375, April 11 at 0003, RRI news in English, surprised to find on four good frequencies since only 9550 and 7375 are supposed to be in English, 9730 & 7420 in Romanian! All at least S9, some up to +10 or +20. Another anomaly from RRO besides English at 0530 on 9660 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2081 monitoring via UTwente SDR: confirmed new time on IRRS 7290 Bulgaria?, Saturday April 10 from 1800:30; ending intact at 1829:17, then finally IRRS ID, and ``Jesus is Calling`` hymn. Once again like when it was on Mondays last few weeks, WOR theme cut on in progress after dead air, no IRRS sign-on or FS News headlines. Tuned in earlier at 1747 when IRIB was wrapping up Russian, atop CCI from CNR China; after a neat ditty, Iran off at 1750* uncovering CNR. Meanwhile there is splash from 7300, Iran in German. Strong S9+20 IRRS 7290 carrier on from *1756.5 covering China, also with pulsing/rumble noise on its own modulation. Continues into WOR but abates somewhat. The same self-QRM is heard via Carlow, Eire SDR. CNR timesignal audible under at 1800. I also notice that every breath I take while speaking is exaggerated as they come out of these relays. Later I go back and listen to my original soundfile and inhaling is barely noticeable. At 1810 I check 14580 on both where a listener via UTwente was also hearing me April 5, second harmonic. Not audible at UTwente, but JBA at Carlow; LSB needed to avoid ute QRM on plus side. WOR 2081 also confirmed from 1953:10 UT Sat Apr 10 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM, Wentzville MO, VG via almost-local KB0FX remote at Warrenton MO. WOR 2081 NOT confirmed Sat April 10 at 2300 on WRMI 7780, instead the April 11 edition on Wavescan --- one of some three dozen airings, as has continued to show on the WRMI skedgrid, while in fact WOR had been appearing since November 7, by mistake? WOR 2081 NOT confirmed UT Sat Apr 10 at 2330 on IRRS webcast, https://www.nexus.org/mp3/ as scheduled, rather Feature Story News, IRRS ID and THEN at 2334 WOR starts, so will it be cut off incomplete before 2400? Audio is rather muffled, and 594 is not on the air this late, 1:30+ AM CEST. Unfortunately? I miss checking how it end. Next: 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315; as late as 0400] 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 594-Italy 2200vUT Sunday WBCQ 6160v Area 51 to WSW 2300 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7730 to WNW 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE, 5800 to SSE 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Randy Stewart, Battlefield MO, via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com Not necessarily in US funds, and says, ``Glenn, it's about time I contributed to your (virtually) lifelong efforts on behalf of DXers!`` One may also contribute, by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 7570, April 11 after 0000, still no signal from this WRMI which used to be fully inhabited by TOMBS from 0000 until 1100 and later on Saturdays. Presumably the major cutback so far from the demise of Brother Scare, among others, if not a technical problem. I am suggesting to Jeff that it would be great if this big 315-degree signal across mid-America could resume at least a few hours in the evenings with secular programming we would like to hear better, e.g. some of the 9955 shows aimed away and subject to jamming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. 13570, April 10 at 1905, no signal from World`s Last Chance on WBCQ; Ivo Ivanov reported that 13570 is a new HFCC registration instead of 9330 at 17-02 UT including Arabic from 1900. But WBCQ is still blasting in on 9330 in German. More wishful thinking? When Superstation was first testing last year, a bunch of other frequencies were registered, but WBCQ could never figure out how to change from any frequency but 9330. That`s probably what led WLC to buy more time elsewhere from Europe. Even 500 kW from Maine to everywhere just won`t cut it on a single frequency every season, every hour. Furthermore, 13570 is a very bad choice: on the border with the ISM/HIFER band 13550-13570. Would blow away those very lowpower signals, including RF IDs? down to 13560 if not even lower. Could 13570 have meant via some site other than Maine? Or using WBCQ as a placeholder while they arrange some other relays. Via UTwente I do detect a VP signal sounding Arabic, zero-beating on about 13570.35, but the SynchAM lox onto the signal at 13570.523. By 1917 it has drifted down to JBA 13570.518. I start to check other KiwiSDRs, such as Kuwait? Nothing there. Smax of a spur. At UTwente I start bandscanning upward for some strong Arabic signal which might be the source, soon finding two: 13670 MWV Madagascar, R. Feda in Arabic, and even stronger 13685, which is CRI. Back to 13570.512 at 1927, but it goes off at 1928*. CRI Mali is scheduled in Arabic until 1930, and indeed is gone when I get back there, so that`s a close match, altho could not make an audio parallel. Also it`s at 20 degrees so puts a very strong signal onward into Europe. There could also be a matching spur 114.48 kHz on the plus side, i.e. 13799.48, no chance to check. MWV of course is still going on 13670 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 13570.52v, Arabic? spur: see USA: WBCQ TECSUN PL-880 problems: this has been my main handy portable when I am away from the main desktop receivers, or when I want to make a quick check for a //. Mine is some 8 years old, and for the last year or more has developed some real problems. Some of the number buttons hard to engage, and so was the ON/OFF button until finally, I could not get it to turn off, except by temporarily removing the Lithium Ion battery (which was recently replaced after an 8-year run of the original rechargeable --- not bad there!). Now it`s off, but the button refuses to turn it back on. Fortunately my savvy technical assistant fixed that by inserting a tiny bit of plastic or something so it would make proper contact. Also inserted a thin layer of foam over the keypad, as the original had deteriorated. This came from fruit boxes in a grocery store! Unfortunately, the other major problem, both fast and slow tuning knobs going haywire with minds of their own, even when not even touched; or going down when tuned upward or vice versa, could not be so easily fixed without replacement parts. There will be no bandscanning or fine-tuning. One can only punch in a frequency and then hurriedly lock it in before it go away. There is also not a chance to adjust bandwidth which also changes by itself. So I again warn those expecting multi-year life out of this receiver to beware, especially of used ones. I wonder if other Tecsuns behave so badly as they age (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0218 UT April 11 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser log roundup April 1-7, 2021 |
|
Saturday, April 10 2021
** U S A. 7489.983V, Monday April 5 at 2300, WBCQ with semirepeat of `Uncle Bill`s Melting Pot` 25 hours after original full airing, but missed most of it since thru no fault of my own it conflicts with WORLD OF RADIO on the other WBCQ, 6159.93, Sunday at 2200; even if it be last week`s edition. UB doesn`t publicize this airing much but I often find it more convenient. This week starts with music from Solomon Islands, at 2318, ``This Land is Your Land`` with choir and bamboo tuned pipes, to be viewed on his site at disgraced FB. More music to come from Tonga and Vanuatu. Signal noticeably improves at 2325 to S9+10, but chopped off at 2330 for ID and *spot commercial* for Peacock, newish streaming service of NBC. Spot ads are extremely rare on US SW stations, no doubt hard to sell; have heard one or two occasionally on WRMI; and into Camp Constitution Radio on WBCQ. Did CCR have anything to do with the Peacock adjacency, or does it run at random, or BCQ choice? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)-------------
Uncle Bill responds: Glad that some people who are missing the Sunday UBMP are getting half of it on Mondays, but it is just half, and it's not an official repeat - that Monday time slot on 7490 is still up for grabs, WBCQ has been using part of UBMP as filler in the meantime. I don't publicize it because it's not an officially-booked broadcast and again, it is just half the show. But if it helps lead some listeners to the full hour, that's great. I don't think either WOR or UBMP is trying to compete with the other on Sundays - it is the same broadcaster - but for listeners I would call it one of those good problems, a much better one than complaining that nothing is on. For those with one radio and no recorder, those in the mood for great DX news have WOR on 6160, and those in the mood for great music have UBMP on 7490. Those with multiple radios and recorders (which describes quite a few of us I believe) can manage both. Shortwave should have so many good programs that there were more moments of choice like this. 73 to all, On Thursday, April 8, 2021, 06:04:22 AM CDT, Wolfgang Bueschel <dg1sbn@t-online.de> wrote: CUBA RHC on this Thursday April 8, 2021 5040even RHC English at 05.48 UT - til 06.00 UT, 6000even til 06.00 UT, 6060even til 06.00 UT - but no program audio, only EMPTY CARRIER signal on this channel this morning, best RHC La Habana English audio signal today on 6099.998 kHz from Bauta bcast center at 05.51 UT and the only Cuban English sce left after 06.00 UT, til 07 UT probably. Something's always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) 6060, April 3 at 0551, RHC English with the perpetual buzz; 6000 OK, 6100 off, 6145 VG, 5040 in Spanish. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) 6165, April 4 at 0537, RHC English is back here after 6145 last night; can`t decide which? Hard-soul music during 'Music with a Message', concentrating on 1971 US anti-war era. 6100 is S9+30 but now developing a squeal à la WWCR-1. 6060 is S9+10 not buzzy for a change but distorted. 6000 is S9+30 but lo-fi A/B comparing to audio bandwidth on 6060. 5040 is back in English for a change, S9+30. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. RHC check at 0455 UT April 5: 6060 Spanish with humbuzz, 6100 Spanish with squeal, 5040 good in Spanish; 6165 // 6000 music presumed English service. Something's always wrong at RHC. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 6165, April 6 at 0235, RHC English, instead of alternate 6145; 6060 nothing but big humbuzz. Something's always wrong at RHC. 6100, April 6 at 0610, RHC final English repeat is OFF. So is 6000. Still ON are 6165, VG S9+30, and 6060 S9+10/20 but still with big humbuzz only. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) CUBA. 6000 & 6100 off, 6060 S9+20 big humbuzz over English; 6165 S9+20 lite hum and undermodulated, 5040 off. Something's always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) SAUDI ARABIA. 17615 & 17705, April 2 at 1348 JBA carriers, the only ones on band besides much stronger 17880, see MALI. The pair of course correlate with Riyadh which per WRTH is now known as SRI = Saudi Radio International, or SBA = Saudi Broadcasting Authority, no longer the legacy BSKSA = Broadcasting Service of the Kingdom of Sa'udi Arabia. And there are no longer any RIY entries in HFCC as they have withdrawn; something to hide? Aoki/NDXC shows these frequencies: 17615 at 0855-1157 & 1250-1557; 17705 at 1155-1457. Also 17895 but unheard today: 0255-0800 & 1155-1457. BTW this 17615 does not seem to be offset plus as had been for ages (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) SAUDI ARABIA Some logs at 10.27 to 10.52 UT on April 8 in Greece, Qatar, Delhi, Brisbane and Tokyo Japan remotedly

(wb df5sx, wwdxc BC-DX TopNews April 8) VANUATU. 11835, April 7 at 0558, one signal with W&M talk, goes right thru hourtop and 0600.7 a bit of music, news theme? and more talk. S2-S4. Again I think it is R. Vanuatu X3 despite co-channel CNR2 from China, which I assume would have a ToH timesignal and break, right? Also a JBA carrier on X2 = 7890 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) Today April 8 at 09.30 UT checked Vanuatu signal, only carrier on JBA tiny level noted at Brisbane-AUS Perseus SDR remotedly, on 3945even, and hx 7890 and 15780kHz, but could be rather some spurious vagabunding noise. 73 wb df5sx -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
