Glenn Hauser logs April 22-23, 2021  View Printable Version

Logs
** CHINA. 9480, April 22 before and after 1830, S6-S3 in French, i.e.
CRI at 18-20 via Xianyang 59 site in north central China, of all
places, 500 kW, 317 degrees toward France. VP reception today, hardly
anything else extracontinental on any band except 13670 Madagascar
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 91.7, April 22 at 0446 past 0506 UT and later, dead air
from KOSU instead of `The Spy`; everyone asleep depending on
automation? (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SUDAN [and non]. 7205, April 23 at 0301, S8-S9 open carrier, surely
Sudan Radio, Omdurman; someham pretends to be AM by tuning his
LSB-only signal here, but no QRM on USB. At prime time in the morning,
also JBA carriers on 7180 > 7140 presumed VOBMEritreans. By 0328 maybe
trace of music. 0342 I switch to UTwente SDR in Holland, where 7205 is
S9 but clearly barely modulated, occasional talkwords peaking, 0345
bit of music. WRTH says irr. from *0300; Eibi says from *0257; Aoki
from *0200. At 0350 & 0356, I JB hear some Horn-of-Africash music. A
4+1 timesignal at 0400 cuts thru, 11 seconds late. Don`t rely on this
for navigation! Then some mumbletalk, news in Arabic? I daresay even
nearby one would have to turn the volume up full and hope for the
best. Dumps off air abruptly at 0405:15*. I switch to offset BFO to
hear any carrier come back, which it finally does at *0423,
again/still, JBM. I must also say, the FPU stations do a much better
job of broadcasting to Sudans from outside. Manuel Mendez, Spain,
hears 7205 in his evenings, and also the external service grandiosely
appelled ``Voice of Africa`` on 9505 going from French to English at
1715. I wonder if that modulation be any better (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2082 monitoring: a delayed report
from Ken Zichi, Michigan about Saturday April 17 at 1300: ``15770 WRMI

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.97-RCUSB, April 21 at 1430, LRA36 confirmed on
this Wednesday in quick check via Brasil SDR with good signal, but I
don`t have time to keep listening. Likely to repeat on Saturday.

I should apply for a new eQSL as have been going out for previous
emissions, e.g. to Manuel Méndez: ``In the email they added the names
of the LRA 36 team for the 2021 year:

"BUENOS DIAS NOS COMPLACE SU ESCUCHA SALUDOS
EQUIPO DE ESTA DOTACION:
OPERACION TECNICA: SARGENTO ALEJANDRO CAMINO
LOCUTORA: TENIENTE PRIMERO ESTEFANIA PEREZ
LOCUTOR: CAPITAN MAXIMILIANO LUNA
DIRECTOR DE LA RADIO: TENIENTE CORONEL DARIO LUCERO

ESTAMOS AL AIRE LOS MISMOS DIA Y HORARIO DEL AÑO PSADO DESDE YA MUCHAS
GRACIAS."

Reception report sent to:
esperanzalra36@radionacional.gov.ar
_._,_._,_``

Note they all hold military ranx. QSL says 300 watts to a rhombic
antenna. WRTH 2021 page 463 says, ``1 x 1 kW, 1 x 10 kW. The 10 kW
(when in use) is operated at around 1.2-1.5 kW`` (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** CUBA. 1040, April 21 at 0613, Cuban-style discussion mentioning
Guantánamo, with WHO nulled, so assumed is the only CM on 1040: CMCL,
10 kW, Radio Mayabeque, Güines, Mayabeque. Mayabeque is a rather
obscure province just east and south of Habana between it and Matanzas
[killings]; in fact it did not exist until 2011:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mayabeque_Province
but that does not explain, why? Güines is just east of the major SW
site Quivicán; and Bejucal is north of there on the Habana province
boundary (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MEXICO. 720, April 21 at 0602, Cuban-style music with WGN nulled,
but then Meximusic and full legal ID for XEDE, or rather XHDE 105.7 y
720, Kaliente, KFM, 25 kW en Saltillo, Coahuila; makes 5.6 Hz SAH with
WGN except when they be exactly mutually nulled. XE NA would have
erupted an hour earlier in the CDT zone, UT -5 (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855 & 15520, April 21 at 2224, zero signals from REE token
English on Wednesday; algo JBA on 11940, JBA carrier on 11685, no
RTTY. Conflicting reports earlier whether 17855 for N America was on
the air during silly ballgame, but Wolfgang Bueschel says it was
making it to Bonaire (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9840, April 21 at 1815, JBA music, attrax my attention as
was a frequency of WHRI, believed to be defunct. But scheduled
1730-1830 is VOT in German --- its real hour rather than more often
heard 9830 overrun after 2300; 5960 after 0000 in B-seasons.

9830, Apr 21 at 2223, trace of TRT at S7 = noise level, no RTTY (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2082 monitoring: unchecked here Wed Apr 21 at
1030 on WRMI 5850; anyone hear it?

Confirmed Wed Apr 21 at 2100 on WRMI 7780, noisy S7-S8 to VA SDR; not
to UTwente but intermittent strong chirpbursts. Also confirmed 21
seconds behind on WBCQ 7490-, S5-S7 to KB0FX with offset -33 Hz, while
to Alexandria VA it`s -45 Hz - so there we have a margin of error via
two different Kiwis. later at KB0FX it`s -25 Hz.

Also confirmed Wed Apr 21 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, by 2220 check direct
is S9+20 with no jamming audible. Next:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to Chuck Ermatinger, Eureka MO, twice via PayPal to
woradio at yahoo.com --- Not necessarily in US funds

One may also contribute, by MO or check in US funds on a US bank to
Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 920, April 21 at 0610 UT, George Noury giving personalized
ID for KVEL 104.5 & 920, as C2CAM then resumes with a silly
numerologist. KVEL is in Vernal, NE UT, U2 5/1 kW, but night pattern
is to the NE, ~nil thisaway*. It`s as strong as dominator KYFR
Shenandoah in SW IA, mutually nullable, NW vs NE. KYFR does have a
tight nightlobe aimed thisaway*.

Therefore suspect KVEL be on ND day pattern if not also day power.
I`ve heard it before with same suspicions, but not lately. 104.5 is,
you guessed it? A mere translator, K283BN. Note to E2L editors:
``thisaway`` is slang, not separable into this and away. Likewise its
antonym, thataway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1329+, April 21 circa 0600 UT, nothing of the unID het noted
24h ago; but the two major off-frequencies are still audible, 1319.7
from North Carolina, and stronger 1540.2 from Georgia. These stick out
during a full MW bandscan (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CHINA [non]. 9790, April 20 at 0341, CRI English relay via CUBA was
absent when checked several days ago but certainly on now with VG
signal and playing, incredibly, John Denver, ``WV - Country Roads``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 11760, April 20 at 0141, RHC Spanish with humbuzz like heard
after 0500 on 6060; same transmitter likely. Wolfgang Bueschel
describes it April 20: ``6060even RHC Bauta in English 6100 kHz.
TERRIBLE BUZZ tone signal, like a garden fence seen, either sideband
symmetrical 13 x 120 Hertz distance apart tone strings. S=7-8 or
-84dBm fair signal strength only in WeUS and Alberta-CAN. 0641 UT.``

11850, April 20 at 0141, RHC is S9+10 but JBM in Spanish. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** GUATEMALA. 4055, still off, but received this update that they are
working on repairing the transmitter:

salud. Dr. Édgar Amílcar Madrid, Director y Gerente General, Estación
Educativa Evangélica, Radio Verdad`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ITALY [and non]. Correxion: in this item I should have said
*before* which, not after which --- fixed:

7290, Monday April 19 at 1758, I`m checking IRRS via UTwente SDR to
see how it`s doing in the timeslot from which WOR was bumped to
Saturday. Weak carrier seems to be on, but CNR is still audible past
1802, when I conclude IRRS is not on at all. It does cut on at
*1807:26, before which the new program must have long begun. No
modulation audible until weakly at 1811:06, undermodulated talk. So
the startup situation at this secret site is worse than ever... (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6933-USB, April 20 at 0148, pirate hard rock music
S5-S8, 0152 DJ talk over music, sounds like ``Yes, I Am Radio`` and
something about country, fake Russian accent. Other logs of it:

Big Badfish Al, Central Pennsylvania: ``I AM RADIO 6933.13 USB 0112
UTC 20 April 2021 « on: Today at 01:15 » SINPO: 24222 - heard mixing
into Sycko Radio. 0112 - I AM RADIO something about wicker basket for
Frank Bali repeated over and over.``
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,80518.0.html

refmo, Northeast Kentucky: ``Re: UNID 6933 USB 2319 UTC 19 Apr 2021
« Reply #7 on: Today at 00:10 »
S5 @ 0010 with something slightly resembling music.
0024 - Shazam says " Mr. Wobble Drop Killa" Ganja White Night
0105 - still the same station?? "We Are" by Thousand Foot Krutch
0109 - OM with Russian accent saying 'here is I am Radio'
0112 - OM again with ' I come to country in wicker basket across
ocean', over a Tool tune``
https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,80516.0.html
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6970-AM, April 20 at 0149, JBA talk S4-S5, probably
the Fox News Channel relay as IDed before; 0220 S7-S9 but only equal
to noise level, undermodulated. 0536 still JBA carrier. Strangely, no
logs now or recently of this in HFU (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** NORTH AMERICA. 6924.9-AM, April 20 at 2217, JBA carrier, smax of a
pirate. Per HFUnderground, R Free Euphoria was on 6925.30 until 2201*;
but yesterday on 6924.9-AM was another unID until 2305* (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Re report about the OKC bombing, correxion, it was 26,
not 36 years go (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, April 20 at 2215, JBA carrier from REE failing to
reach deep N America when it would have been in English if this were
not a day starting with T or S; 15520 slightly better, BA carrier;
11940 S9-S6 would have to serve offside from S America beam (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, April 20 at 2215, zero signal from VOT English to N
America even tho there is no signal either from the RTTY. Something`s
always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 18157.5-USB, April 20 at 1834, W3FF in the ``17-meter
activity group``, and QSYing too check 21283 for 5 minutes. So do I,
and do hear a K4STU calling a W6, nothing more, the OSOB. Nothing yet
on the 10m beacon-band 28.2+ MHz. QRZ.com:

W3FF USA flag USA, BUDD L DRUMMOND, REDDING, CA 96002 USA

I was wondering why he mentioned Redding several times.

``Hello from Northern California --- Budd here. Watch for me almost
every day at 1745 UT on 18157.5 kHz. Free signal reports from Northern
California. At about 1830, we move up to 21280 + or - QRM to promote
activity on 15 Meters. These are the Activity Groups. There is no roll
call. If you hear one of the many stations on frequency, simply break
in with your call sign, and you will be most welcome to see if any of
the dozens of stations on frequency daily can hear you from your
location. WE HAVE CORE STATIONS LISTENING FOR CALLERS.``

K4STU USA flag USA, STUART A NEUBERGER, WINTER HAVEN, FL 33884

below 1330.0 stations, measured here. Nothing anywhere nearly that low
in mwoffsets. Not, of course, a region 1/3 9-kHz channel. Fades a bit
