Logs
** BRAZIL. 9630.324, Jan 18 at 2230, JBA off-frequency, S5-S7,
presumed R. Aparecida in Portuguese. I haven`t heard even the carrier
of this for a long time, but presumed as such on signature
off-frequency. Its 11856v has been gone even longer, while 6135v has
continued more or less active, but I think not 5035 either. My last
log of it on 9630.3 was Feb 7, 2020, but I find one from Manuel Méndez
on August 7, none since. Now it`s slightly stronger but less readable
than RVM on 9665v.

Recheck at 0320 Jan 19, 9630.3 is a JBA carrier, while 31m is
otherwise virtually dead of US signals, yet 11905-11915 RNA Brasil DRM
noise is detectable, but no AM signal on 11780. K-index is 3 with
strange conditions. But WRMI seems absent from all frequencies, see U
S A (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KUWAIT. 5959.887 kHz, Jan 19 at 0353, via Bonaire SDR, first noted
as heavy splatter to 5950 when trying for WRMI, Arabic talk measured
here in SynchAM of 5960.000 minus 113v Hz carrier; 0355 music; 0358
two brief ~1 second breaks also visible on waterfall; 0400 Kuwait ID
and news, first about Yemen. This Kabd is always offset minus (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 9690, Jan 18 at 2235, REE North American frequency is back
on after missing a week or more, S9+20 in Castilian, and presumably
English after 2300 on this Monday when I heard some music. But after
2235 NO signals on // 11940, 12030 or 11685 to be heard here nor by
TWR DR SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 5960, Jan 18 at 2305, no signal from VOT English to us,
checked at DR SDR and even UTwente. Something`s always erroneous at
Ermiler. KUWAIT was VG later, tho, q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2069 monitoring: not confirmed UT Tuesday
January 19 at 0330 on WRMI 5800 since this and all transmitters are
off air during power outage; see separate report. FSR has pre-empted
WOR the past few weeks anyway contrary to skedgrid. Next:
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [still needs confirmation]
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support:
thanks this week to Brandon Jordan, TN, for a contribution via PayPal
to woradio at yahoo.com and commenting: ``Heya Glenn. Thanks for all
you do for us SWDX’ers`` - also tnx to Brandon for the rx I use most.

One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to Glenn
Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9975 KVOH, 9955 & 9395 WRMI, 9330 WBCQ, Jan 19 at 0323, no
signals or maybe traces, as K-index is 3 at 0300, but no storms
reported.

At 0325 I find 5800 WRMI also absent when FSR or WS should be on, and
still nothing after 0330 when FSR or WOR should be on. Then I check
all other possible WRMI frequencies, and hear no signals on 4980,
5010, 5850, 5950, 7570, 7730, 7780, so altho propagation is degraded,
WRMI must be totally silent for some reason. Just to be sure, also
check them to Bonaire SDR at 0352: none at all, including those aimed
thataway, 5800 & 9955.

Still at 0545 no signal e.g. on 5850 and I check disgraced FB:

``WRMI Radio Miami International 3 hrs · Power outage at WRMI: at
about 0115 UTC January 19, the electrical power went out here at the
WRMI transmission plant. This means that all transmitters are off the
air at this time. Our Internet stream of 9955 kHz is still on with
emergency power. Florida Power and Light estimates that power should
be restored by around 0300 UTC, but this is just an initial estimate.
Hopefully we will be back on the air soon`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Jan 19 at
0334-0340 UT when K-index is 3 so not expecting much, but, beyond the
high local noise level at lowband: 639(2 with slow SAH of 108/minute =
1.8 Hz), *684(2), 693, *774(2), 837(2 slow), 882, 891, 909, 1017,
1044(2), *1053, 1107, 1215, 1224, 1296(2), 1305(3), 1665(?). * =
strongest. As for the SAH on 639, mwoffsets shows two of the RNE Spain
synchros are/were 1.8 Hz apart, but not including the big one of 300
kW at La Coruña (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

TIPS FOR RATIONAL LIVING

THE POWER WORSHIPPERS

Saw an interview on DW The Day, TV news January 18 about why so-called
Xians are so enamored of amoral sinner Drumpf; searching on names
finds many other appearances, including:

Glenn Hauser logs January 17-18, 2021  View Printable Version
Monday, January 18 2021

Logs
** CUBA. 9700, Jan 18 at 0711, S9+30 of dead air, as RHC refuses to
modulate English plus refuses to turn off. Somethings always wrong at
RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13630 approx., Jan 18 at 1445, RHC spurblob with F# tone,
unreadable in SSB but in FM or AM mode, S6-S8; also weaker 13559
mixing with constant ISM pulse noises; out of 13700-AM which is
S9/+10; also 13772 and 13843 at approx ~71 kHz intervals. Something`s
always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** ERITREA. 7140 & 7180, Jan 18 at 1519, JBA carriers amid LSB AROs,
fittingly for the two VOBME reactivated intruders; by long path. Not
attempted to measure now, but on Jan 1, Wolfgang Bueschel found them
both exactly 21 Hz plus (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 9900-9905-9910, Jan 18 at 1512, S3-S4 of DRM noise, one of
the TDF/RFI tests, but starts it at 1500 or 1505 per conflicting info?
Ivo Ivanov says the datespan for these is Jan 11, when I discovered
5875 at 2330; to Feb 28 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KOREA NORTH [non]. 9985, Jan 18 at 1515, Korean at S7-S9, needs USB
tuning to minimise but not eliminate huge WWCR TOMBS on 9980. This is
RFA via SAIPAN, so probably off-frequency (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 15600, Jan 18 at 1455, also at 1450 before the
15260 UK log, and better than it, S5-S9 M&W chat in presumed Kurdish
mentioning Corona; 1458 bring up theme music under, several web
addresses ending in .fm, ``Dengê Amerika`` ID and off 1459.5*. It`s
VOA Kurdish via Woofferton UK as scheduled 14-15; the best
extracontinental signal on band, less than Cuba, much more than WWCR,
WRMI (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KURDISTAN [non]. 11540, Jan 18 at 1504, fast SAH between a talker
and a musicker, surely Dengê Welat and Turkish jammer; nothing on
11530, abandoned by both. D.W. could keep the jammer hopping by
hopping back and forth, why not? BTW, it`s not ``Welt`` as some keep
misspelling it.

Isn`t Emirler too close by skip distance on 11 MHz to Diyarbakir for
effective jamming? Let`s see at distancefromto.net --- entering both
names with no country, it knows both are in ``Turkey`` but puts
Emirler NW of Ankara near the Black Sea, at 785 km = 488 stmi, rather
than just south of Ankara as in WRTH 2021 glossy page 57, i.e. quite a
bit closer; Ankara itself is 674 km = 419 stmi. Are there two
Emirlers? Surely the SW site is the more famous.

For jamming, maybe it partially funxion, especially to further reaches
of Kurdistan and/or with high-angle takeoff. Those lucky Kurds,
without an independent country of their own, yet served by SW
broadcasters. But Kurdish is not ``major`` enough to be one of the
languages in the ADDX lang-listings. Checking EiBi and Aoki/NDXC, I
find Kurdish only from: TWR, VOA, Iran, all with religio-politico
agendas; and on MW, Armenia. WRTH shows some Kurdish language domestic
stations from Iran, Iraq, Turkey but not Syria (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
See also TURKEY

** TAIWAN [non]. 9955, Monday January 18 at 1514, WRMI-3 is on again,
S9/+10, extended to diffuse unscheduledly `Freedom Synergy Radio`
discussing Taiwan`s growing wine industry with 200 varieties of
grapes; take that, China mainland! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 11815.020, Jan 18 at 1506, VOT Turkish, S7-S9 and slightly
off-frequency as usual; checked for comparison to the jamming on 11540
against KURDISTAN [non], q.v. (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U K. 15260, Jan 18 at 1455, S5-S6 of few notes of JBA music,
recognizable theme of Babcock/Encompass Woofferton, ``this is a`` test
transmission and off (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) see also KURDISTAN [non]

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2069 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
January 17 from 2300:20 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.935, S9/+10 direct;
following WBCQ IS & ID loop, no A51 ID or sign-on but a bit of music
before WOR start. (Meanwhile, the other WBCQ, with `UBMP`, is not much
better, on 7490.173v.)

Also confirmed UT Monday January 18 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, good direct,
following usual Bob Zanotti second ID attempt overridden.

Also confirmed UT Mon Jan 18 at 0230 on WRMIs: 5800, S9+5/15 via
Bonaire; 7780, S9+10/20 via UTwente; also on WRN web/satcast. Next:

Also confirmed Mon Jan 18 from 1900:44 on IRRS 7290 Bulgaria; via
UTwente, timing compared to WWV direct, but UTw can`t get any
timesignals, except something on 5000-LSB with no minute pip. How do
European clockwatchers manage? Plenty strong at S9+25, after cut/on at
*1854:51 vs the splash, but by 1859:52 IRRS sign-on, the splash from
7280 Vietnam and 7295 East Turkistan, both also in English, becomes
severe. Usual 3 headlines from FSN between s/on and WOR start. ACI not
so bad by end at 1929:44, respectful 2-second pause before IRRS ID
``from south of the Alps``, FSN more than headlines. Next:

0330 UT Tuesday WRMI 5800 [to resume?] to SSE
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [still needs confirmation]
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to Glenn
Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VENEZUELA. 6200+, Jan 18 at 0233, presumed ROCV JBA at S3/S4, as
usual in SynchAM mode via TWR Bonaire KiwiSDR displaying carrier at
plus 0.8 Hz slightly varying. JBA here and weak at best even at
Bonaire: on the cadena dx fb Jan 14, ROCV engineer Gregorio Kina
posted, ``Potencia 50 watios antena v invertida cale eliax 1/2
pulgada`` --- I guess that is supposed to be ``cable``, antenna
measuring half an inch diameter? BTW, until I see a YV- callsign
applied to this, or other official info, I am going to assume this be
a pirate, but I bet FRW isn`t interested (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 7830-AM, Jan 18 at 1516, S9+10 open carrier as if a
broadcaster, but could be a ute such as RTTY standby; also the usuals
on 6860 and stronger 6810. 7830 gone at 1614 recheck (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

CUBA 13562 approx., Jan 17 at 1519, S4-S5 FMish spurblob from
S9+10/20 RHC 13700.0-AM at, at ~69 kHz intervals today while
first-order circa 13631 is S6-S7. Also on plus side, 13769 but much
stronger than 13838. So the regular spurblob-producing transmitter is
back instead of the weaker off-frequency-minus one. But earlier today
these reports:

Wolfgang Büschel: "At 1318 UT noted the odd frequency fail
transmitter at Bauta (tx #2nd of total six transmitters at Bauta site)
on 6099.908 kHz".

Ivo Ivanov: "Radio Habana Cuba on very odd frequency 13700v kHz,
January 17 from 1355 on 13699.8 BAU 100 kW / 310 deg to WNAm Spanish,
ex 13700. 13700 kHz is scheduled in B-20 RHC 1400-1600, but off air at
1405 UT" --- so after that they changed transmitters and came back on
as 13700 also heard by Ivo on remotes after 1430
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) Jan 17.

CUBA 13699.812, Jan 16 at 1541, RHC off-frequency again, S8-S9; as
heard yesterday but not in time to measure. As in previous report, was
also askew on 9699.879 at 0227. Both also weaker than normal, and
lacking spurblobs on 13 MHz, suspect a totally different transmitter
has been substituted. Meanwhile, Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria found another
such: 6099.86 at 12-14. He thinx the same Bauta transmitter would be
on 15140v from 19 in Arabic, 20 in English; but at 1739 and 1940, it's
within a fraxion of 1 Hz from 15140.00 per Bonaire SDR.
