Glenn Hauser logs January 20-21, 2021 |

Thursday, January 21 2021
![Logs](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/logs.gif) ** CANADA. Re: ```274-MCW, Jan 20 at 0737 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt NDB from upnorth Pilangikum, Ontario, still in Hepburn list in red as ``back on``. Distance is 1741 km = 1082 stmi, or 43.28 watts per mile.``` --- Should have read miles per watt, tnx to Richard Line in MI for catching that (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. Re: ``U S A. 286-MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0735 UT, ND beacon .-.-/... --- what??? .-.- is not a Roman letter but Russian ``ya``. I listen again and again, and that`s what it sounds like, tuned to 284-USB. But this must be on 286, EKS in Ennis, Montana, heard without a pause between dit for E and dah-dit-dah for K! Classaxe shows no note about any such error`` Harold Frodge, MI, replies: ``No mystery --- 284 QD 0.4 The Pas MB, Le Pas A/P; 01 Nov (DT), 06 Dec (KZ) [Has misskeyed as .-.-/...]`` Then I find this in classaxe.com about QD 284: ``Most often miskeys with the first dash in each character replaced with a dot. Sounds like AA S. 15Feb2020`` But not always: I have also heard correct QD. This seems about as convoluted an explanation as mine of another station lacking a pause between two letters. But pinning down the frequency to 284 implies it`s QD --- and what I heard did have a dash, overlooked in my original report, so it`s Canadian (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 9700, Jan 21 at 0126, RHC English only S6-S9 direct, but: 5040, Jan 21 at 0127, RHC off or below noise level here; 0135 checking Bonaire SDR, only a JBA carrier, could be India? While 5025 Rebelde is good. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CUBA. 13634, 13569, 13769, 13838 all approx., Jan 21 at 1443, extremely distorted spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM. Something`s always wrong at RHC. 13739.796, Jan 21 at 1445, the other RHC 22m frequency bears the transmitter off-frequency from 13740.00. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KOREA SOUTH. Re the 3+1 pips I heard at strange time of 1344 Jan 19 on 1566 kHz, ``One of the clubs has compiled a timesignal reference but I have not found it again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)`` Richard Langley replies on the WOR iog: ``It is attached. See FEBC in the list. You're welcome. -- Richard Langley`` And thank you. I see there are some others with 3+1, altho FEBC appears to be the only one that fits on 1566; e.g. there are no NHKs at all on 1566 per WRTH. I`m really quite sure that`s it, but curious if others have noticed the pips at odd times like transmission changes (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2069 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday January 20 at 2100 ono WRMI 7780, S7-S9 to UTwente SDR. Also confirmed Wed Jan 20 from 2200:20 on WBCQ 7490.189v, S8-S9 direct. Briefly some 2-way SSB QRM around 2102. Missed checking Wed Jan 20 at 2300 on WRMI 9955; anyone hear it? Confirmed UT Thu Jan 21 at 0130 on WRMI 5010, S9/+10 to Bonaire SDR. JBA carrier here vs S9+10 high noise level. New WOR 2070 should be ready by early UT Jan 22 for first airings Friday at 0130 on WRMIs 5850, 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1729 UT January 21 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Wednesday, January 20 2021
![Logs](http://www.hard-core-dx.com/images/hcdx/logs.gif) Greetings from the United States of America, again under honest, rational, competent, empathetic management!
** CANADA. 335-MCW, Jan 20 at 0731 UT, dash and YLD, 1000-watt ND beacon at Chapleau, Ontario. 274-MCW, Jan 20 at 0737 UT, dash and YPM, 25-watt NDB from upnorth Pilangikum, Ontario, still in Hepburn list in red as ``back on``. Distance is 1741 km = 1082 stmi, or 43.28 watts per mile. One of these quiet winter nights before spring storming set in, I should report *every* Canadian beacon audible in one session; I tend to avoid relogs of same ones over and over again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KIRITIMATI. 846 kHz, Jan 20 at 0742, JBA carrier but stronger than 837 and several other TA carriers still audible. This one surely R. Kiribati, which has often been absent around this time; as there is nothing more than 3 kW from W Europe = Ireland; 20/50 kW from Mideast but too late for them, while it`s long after sunset in east Kiribati. See also UNIDENTIFIED (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** KUWAIT. 1548 kHz, Jan 20 at 0153 UT, JBA carrier but really stands out as nothing else at 9-kHz steps audible highband above 1107. There are two 500 kW, R. Sawa, Kuwait 24 hours; and TWR via Pridnestrovye to eastern Europe but only at 1930-2130 per WRTH 2021. See also UNIDENTIFIED. 1548 is what`s left of the once great VOA Arabic service on SW (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 293-MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0733 UT, two NDBs mixing, TOR and FBY. Commonly I only hear FBY, 25 watts from FairBurY, Nebraska. TOR is 50 watts from TORrington, Wyoming. Previously but not now on 293 I have also heard UI, qUIncy, Illinois. Classaxe shows no note about any such error, https://www.classaxe.com/dx/ndb/rna/signal_list and BTW is being replaced by: https://rxx.classaxe.com/en/rna/signals 269-MCW kHz, Jan 20 at 0730 UT, ND beacon BEX, which is 25 watts from Bloomfield, Iowa; I was tuned to 267-USB where it`s mixing about equally with 25-watt HET, Henryetta, Oklahoma, which is usually alone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2069 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday January 20 at 1030 on WRMI 5850: it`s been on the skidgrid a while, but finally checked it via timer recording, VG thisaway, and onward to Asia?? Center beam crosses circa Saipan/NMI, but by then it should be broad enough for east Asia too. How is it there or even in NZ/Au? Next: 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Brandon Jordan, TN, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and commenting: ``Heya Glenn. ** CUBA. 13771 & 13630 & 13560, Jan 19 at 1413, FMish spurblobs with F# tone from RHC 13700; 1511 recheck, 13770 at S6-S8, also 13631, 13564, all approx. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** EAST TURKISTAN. 5960, Jan 19 at 2356-2400, as soon as Turkey off, via UTwente, Chinese talk and traditional music until 5+1 timesignal, i.e. PBS Xinjiang, Urumqi; land of Chicom genocide against the Uighurs. BTW, in case you think I exaggerate unreasonably, hear this starting at 24:10 into The World edition of Jan 19 as heard on KOSU: https://www.npr.org/podcasts/381444246/pri-s-the-world PBS Newshour also reports on this January 19 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 17720, Jan 19 at 1504, S6-S8 of unID talk, the OSOB except for 17630 slightly better CRI English via MALI. 17720 is VOT which has just started a 2-hour Arabic broadcast. 5960, Jan 19 at 2324, VOT English is on, unlike 24 hours earlier, during feature on Turkish culture; 2353-2356* IS and off, uncovering Xinjiang; as checked via UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5800, Jan 19, latest revision of WRMI skedgrid has finally removed WOR UT Tue 0330 and all other programming at 0300-0400 in favor of `Freedom Synergy Radio` daily, except: VORW on UT Fridays. WORLD OF RADIO monitoring, next: 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW [still needs confirmation] 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support: thanks this week to Brandon Jordan, TN, for a contribution via PayPal to woradio at yahoo.com and commenting: ``Heya Glenn. One may also contribute by MO or check in US$ on a US bank to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 USA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5850 & 5950, Jan 19 at 0709, WRMIs-12 and -8 are still off, so presumably all the others too. Bob Biermann later informs that power finally restored at 0739. 15770, Jan 19 at 1501, my first check finds WRMI-9 back on here, with SMTV stuff about nim cruelty. 9955, Jan 19 at 1502, WRMI-3 still on with `Freedom Synergy Radio` about smart farming in Taiwan, S9+20. Skedgrid has been updated again contrarily to show TOMBS now at 1500-1530 M-F and 1530-1700 daily along with other expansions. Yes, 9955 still on with BS at 1648 check, VP via DR SDR (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Pacific JBA MW carrier search, January 19 at 1327-1345: Looping NW on the DX-398 so from Japan/E Asia: 594, 693, 747, 774, 828, 972, 1323, 1422, 1566. From WSW so Australia: 702, 1548. Uncertain DF: 1503, 1512, both nothing more than 10 kW from either. LSR here was 1341 UT. 1566, from 1342 Jan 19, paying special attention to surely 250 kW Jeju, South Korea, but seems to have a slight beat from second carrier, China? But no more than 10 kW there. At 1344 a 3+1 timesignal(?) cuts thru and then the station weakens, i.e. when FEBC change antenna patterns and languages from Japanese to Chinese. Is that non-hour TS typical of HLAZ? One of the clubs has compiled a timesignal reference but I have not found it again (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 0028 UT January 20 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
