** CUBA. 5025, Nov 28 at 0711, R. Rebelde active again with music, S9/+10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2271)
** GERMANY. 9670, Nov 28 at 0215, Texas R Shortwave via Channel 292, special T-giving show for NAm east, insuff direct, but S9+10/20 into Georgia SDR with hard rock; 0223 TRSW ID and address, turkey-gobbling SFX, and more of same rest of hour (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. 540, Nov 28 circa 0640, pop songs and frequently ``Los Cuarenta`` = 40, alluding to ``Top 40``? Mostly in Spanish but some in English. Constant rippling SAH. It`s XEWA San Luís Potosí SLP. IRCA says sporadically active, probably nowhere near 150/150 kW licensed power. MWoffsets show it on 539.9732 as of 2024-02-04, i.e. 26.8 Hz low. CBK as 0.1 Hz high. Later in night English talk, probably CBK. The other 540 XEWA, lower powered in Monterrey is apparently long gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2270) ** OKLAHOMA. 338 MCW kHz, Nov 28 at 0721, NDB TU is JBA, i.e. TUlsa (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. As a noncommercial service, financial support welcome such as a contribution via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds, to woradio at yahoo.com One may also contribute by MO or check on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9955, Nov 28 at at 0713, JBA carrier S3/S4, presumably WRMI, while 9395 WRMI with SMTV is blasting in at S9+20/25. So something`s very odd at Okeechobee. 9455 still silent (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 23250 et al., replies to the WITK PA harmonix; Hugh Whelan: ``Hello all, Thank you Glenn and everyone for the helpful information regarding the probable harmonic at 4650. To be clear, I am in West Pittston (visiting wife's family for Thanksgiving), not at my home in Fort Myers. This location is directly across the Susquehanna River from Pittston. I brought my Airspy HF+ Discovery with me and put out a 60' long wire into a 9:1 Neolec balun. For what it's worth I also sent an email to Wilkins with two recordings, but got an out of office email saying the person was out for the week. Best, Hugh`` Arthur Pozner replies: ``This Kiwi SDR must be very close to the transmitter. Most likely between 2 to 3 km distance. Night power is listed as 500 W, but it is equally as bad. The assigned fundamental (1550 kHz) frequency is S9+60. The strongest is the 3rd harmonic on 4650 kHz and S9+40. Practically all odd harmonics are pretty strong and some are highly distorted. The even harmonics are very low (after dark). Just wondering if the Kiwi and Airspy are both overloaded to a point of passing fairly high level RF as it is so evident`` Rodney Johnson replies: ``Greetings From Minnesota! Either the carrier exciter is overdriven to the point of putting out square waves, where odd harmonics are stronger than even ones is typical, just look a Fourier series of it: https://mathworld.wolfram.com/FourierSeriesSquareWave.html or the receiver front-end is severely overloaded, clipping the incoming carrier in a square like fashion. Since an exciter running like this would likely melt or start a fire, it is more likely the latter. 73s --Rodney`` (via Glenn Hauser, WORLD OF RADIO 2271) UNIDENTIFIED. 660, Nov 28 at 0730 UT, ``ESPN Radio`` ID dominating. One might guess sports format WFAN NYC but NRC AM Log does not have it with ESPN; rather only these two on 660: WDYZ Altamonte Springs FL, U4 3500/1000, and WBHR Sauk Rapids MN U4 10000/500 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 830, Nov 28 at 0737 UT, dead air, surely WCCO, but rock steady at S9+37. Can`t imagine any local source for this. Some talk audio JBA underneath (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 2271) This report dispatched at 0149 UT November 29

Thursday, November 28 2024
** BELIZE. 24950 USB, Nov 27 at 2312, V31CQ, Scott contacting KQ4PCR. QRZ.com: ``V31CQ Belize flag Belize, Scott Davis, Blackman Eddy, Belize`` - sounds like an American; yes: home call is K5PS. Visits Belize in November, this year until 30th (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** SOLOMON ISLANDS. 5020, Nov 27 at 0737, JBA carrier. Cuba still off 5025. Presumably SIBC starting to show, late enough for nightprop from there and ``early`` enough for me to be tuning (GLenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, 12030, 17715, 17755, Nov 27 at 2057 check direct, all four REE frequencies are on, in decreasing order of strength here. Likewise for token English from 2300 Wednesday, previewing topix about a book on Black Friday objects, and about Beethoven, S9+40/50. 2302 news leading with Israel/Lebanon ceasefire (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY [and non]. 5960.004-, Nov 27 at 2259, VOT not off the air, S9+10 direct but same as noise level so insufficient. 2323 into UTwente when measured, S9+35/45, Efsun concluding `Unexpected Twists of Fate`. 2330 next check one of their commentaries about US elexion. 2340 music. 2345 `Sports Panorama`. 2352 multi-lingual ID filler reel starts but cut short rather than entire biminute. 2353 s/off and IS to 2357.6* uncovering Chinese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2270 monitoring: confirmed UT Wednesday November 27 at 0030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003-, S8/9+10 into UTwente. Also confirmed UT Wednesday November 27 at 0030 on WRMI 9395, S9+10/20 into Peoria. ``From: Richard Lemke, St. Albert, Alberta, Canada, the desk of Richard’s listening Post, Radio: JRC NRD-535 HF, Antenna: random long wires in the trees. Hello Glenn: WRMI, World of Radio #2270, congratulations, Happy Thanksgiving Day, USA. 9395 kHz, QRN, 0045 ID heard, 0031, 0044, 0058 (55433-4), (55434), 0059, November 27 UTC 2024 [Wed] (Lemke, Richard -AB)`` Also confirmed Wednesday November 27 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.003-, S8/S9 into UTwente, but JBA with theme recognizable. MUF must be way down as sig is normally good there. Also confirmed Wednesday November 27 at 2200 on WBCQ, 7489.95 approx., VP signal direct but at least somewhat propagating in wintry conditions. Next: 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975. 23250, Nov 27 at 1855, extremely distorted but strong talk, S9+10 into Duryea PA KiwiSDR. 1858 WITK ID and Town Hall News. Checking this because Hugh Whelan reported an unlisted station on 4650, which Arthur Pozner then IDed as WITK [not WIZK my typo], Wilkes-Barre PA on its 3rd harmonic of 1550! as heard into same Duryea remote, which is only about 10 miles away. Looking at the waterfall, there are lines throughout the spectrum at least to 31 MHz, correlating with 1.55 MHz spacing, so I pick this frequency which is the *15th* harmonic of 1550. Have not tried direct, but may well be propagating widely on multiple harmonix. Also heard on many of the lower ones spot checked. I`ll calculate them for convenience: 3100, 4650, 6200, 7750, 9300, 10850, 12400, 13950, 15500, 17050, 18600, 20150, 21700, 23250, 24800, 26350, 27900, 29450, 31000... Not until 2303 do I get around to checking many of those direct: nothing except a JBA carrier on 9300 which is probably ChiCom jamming against Sound of Hope. WITK, in Pittston PA, not Wilx-Barre, per NRC AM Log, U4 10000/500 watts so by then would have powered down with different antenna pattern. Still worth checking some of those possible harmonix in daytime. Hugh`s original report started, ``From West Pittston, PA I heard a strong signal at frequency 4650 of a man preaching at 14:16 UTC, later followed by a clear ID that this was coming from the Wilkins Radio Network.`` It`s not clear if Hugh was *in* West Pittston PA, was using a remote somewhere, or heard it direct at his location of record, Ft Myers FL; which? W. Pittston is even closer to Duryea, both NE of W-B. NRC shows licensed to Pittston, not West Pittston, and address in Exeter. Pittston, West Pittston, Exeter and Duryea are close to each other about halfway between Scranton and W-B, slightly closer to the latter. Radio-locator gives station address as Wilkins R Network, Spartanburg SC, so O&O? Day and night transmitter locations are slightly different by one second of latitude (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0109 UT November 28

Wednesday, November 27 2024
** CANADA. 2749 USB, reply to my Halifax marine weather in French log: ``2749 kHz USB starting 0140 UT - Halifax Coast Guard Radio Station VCS in English. The station signed out 0155 UT and then a broadcast in French immediately followed at 0155 UT. Off by 0213 UTC. On again at 0240 UT. The English broadcast ended at 0253 UT with French immediately following. The signal slowly weakened during this broadcast and by the end at 0306 UT, it was down to S7.8 or so. The Canadian Coast Guard site schedule shows English followed by French for the 0140 and 0240 broadcasts - https://www.ccg-gcc.gc.ca/publications/mcts-sctm/ramn-arnm/part2-eng.html
Here's an interesting site on the station: http://www.coastalradio.org.uk/worldcoastal/halifaxpresent/halifaxpresent.htm Doug White, KA5ETS Carrboro, NC, Airspy HF+ Discovery with 53 ft vertical and thirty 25 ft radials`` on Nov 26 --- tnx, Doug! 2749 USB, Nov 26 at 0744 UT, YL with marine weather, English? This time at 0745, 2598 USB is also on and slightly stronger S7 = HNL, YL with marine weather, English. Too weak to get on two receivers to discern if //, but probably not. From CCG website above lots of info, except powers; do all these stay at same UT or make DST shifts?: First 2749 bc of day is at 0740 from VCS Sydney NS via Port Caledonia, English followed by French at unspecified and probable variable time. Wikipedia: ``Port Caledonia is a small community in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality on the Donkin Highway, between the town of Glace Bay and the village of Donkin. It currently has one gas station / convenience store as well as a public beach, known as the Big Glace Bay Beach. The community received media attention in 2011 when resident Shirley Sampson appeared on the reality television program Canada's Worst Driver 7, ultimately being named the worst driver in Canada.`` First 2598 bc of day is at 0737 from Placentia NF MCTS/VCP via St. Lawrence, English only. This St. Lawrence town is at the southern tip of the Burin peninsula, not far from St. Pierre & Miquelon (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAMAICA. 28580 USB, Nov 25 at 2310, 6Y5CB, Jay in Montego Bay making quick contacts. Also noted Mexico, Belize, Uruguay sigs on 10m. QRZ.com: ``Causland J "Scorpio" Burnett, Flower Hill, Salt Spring PO, Montego Bay, Jamaica`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA [non]. 341 MCW kHz, Nov 26 at 0750 UT, JBA ND beacons mixing, inseparable, likely the pair I used to get even when EI was active: DNI Denison TX 25 watts, and OIN Oberlin KS 25 watts. RNA list says this about EI EnId: ``!! To be decommissioned 26Dec24 per OKLAHOMA NFDD 211 - 3 10/31/2024`` and last heard: 2024-09-05. I had also first noted it missing on Sept 6 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** SPAIN. 9690, Mon Nov 25 at 2259, REE S9+30/40 VG direct, sufficient on 12030, JBA on 17715 and JBA carrier on 17755. At least, all four transmitters manage to be on air merging into token English at 2300. Preview topic to be about role-playing video game designer and a literature festival, 2301 into news. 17715, Tue Nov 26 at 1958 direct, 2038 into UTwente, and 2040 into Maryland SDR, today`s missing REE frequency, but audible on 9690 & 12030, and JBA carrier on 17755. So now it`s the SAm transmitter off rather than 17755 or 9690 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960.003, Nov 25 at 2258, VOT not off the air, IS & ID in English, S9+10/20 direct but insufficient vs local noise level. 2331 into UTwente when measured, S9+45 with music and more music. 2352 headlines by Efsun. 2353 s/off as if 1330 on 13635: something`s always awry at Ankara, bit of IS to off before 2355* (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Nov 26 at 2300 and later chex, no signal from VOT English for N America; 9610 algo JBA. Into UTwente at 2331, Chinese only on 5960, non-English JBA on 9610, presumably Mongolian from China. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 344 MCW kHz, Nov 26 at 0751 UT, ND beacon is JBA, seems to be OL - but nonesuch listed: likely JL, i.e. I missed the initial dot, `Lunns` Joplin MO per RNA list last logged 2024-11-12, power 0, apparently meaning unknown. I`ve heard it before (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2270 monitoring: confirmed Monday November 25 at 2030 on SW Radio, Germany, 3975.002+, S8/9+5 into UTwente. Also confirmed UT Tuesday November 26 at 0353 the 0330 on WRMI 7780, S8/S9 direct. Barely confirmed Tueday November 26 at 1415 and 1520 the 1400 & 1500 on WRMI 9955, JBA direct as usual this time of day, but sounds like me. I`m barely awake, so no checking remotes or webcast. Also confirmed Tuesday November 26 at 2100 on IRRS SW via AM Italia, 1322.997+, S9 into UTwente. Next: 0030 UT Wednesday WRMI 9395 to NNW; 0030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 2030 UT Wednesday SW Radio, Germany 3975; 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW; 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S; 1730 UT Thursday SW Radio, Germany 3975. 880, reply to my KJOZ log: ``Glenn, you are correct about Radio Visión Latina on KJOZ 880, which is the originating station for K291CE 106.1 in Houston. KJOZ has been leased by numerous programmers in recent years, so sometimes hard to keep track of changes. La Calle is a different format currently heard on several translators and LPFMs on 102.5 in the greater Houston metro area. Stephen Luce, Houston, Texas`` --- tnx, Stephen! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1600, Nov 26 at 0443 UT, ``BIN 103.7`` non-ID at tuneby. I would expect usual dominant KATZ St Louis. NRC AM Log shows 6/3.5 kW station is UC:GOS but also with BIN and translator on 93.3. Website https://hallelujah1600.iheart.com/ has nothing about BIN or even callsign--who needs them? KATZ. The only 1600/103.7 matchup in WTFDA FMDB is W279BY of WKZK 1600, Augusta-Richmond County, GA, ``The Spirit 103.7 FM & 1600 AM`` AND same match in NRC AM Log as WKZK North Augusta SC, 4000/27 watts also UC:GOS format, but no mention of BIN. The only other BIN on 1600 is 25/5 kW WWRL NYC which is apparently fulltime BIN with UC:NWS/TLK, but I would hardly expect it way out here, https://newyork.binnews.com/ and no FM. Looking further into WKZK: https://wkzk.net/ shows slogan is The Spirit, and nothing about BIN - might take news only from it, but would not expect that to combine with 103.7 in a non-ID. Now what? Guess what, searching on BIN 103.7 leads right to St. Louis! About the same generic website as WWRL: but nothing about 1600! Back to WTFDA: there is no 103.7 in MO near St Louis: I bet it`s across the bridge in IL: YES, here we go: ``W279AQ relay of: KLOU 103.3 HD2 103.7 MASCOUTAH IL USA 0.25 0.25 0.0 0.0 38-34-28 90-19-32 D3FF NEWS BIN 151819`` --- Mascoutah is just SE of St Louis, about twice as far out at Belleville, rather too far for an FM translator into STL, but not for 1600 AM. O, CoL may be Mascoutah, why? but coverage area shows site is on SW edge of St Louis in MO, with poor little Mascoutah barely within fringe contour: https://radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=W279AQ&service=FX How convoluted! (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** VENEZUELA. 4940, Nov 26 at 0744, JBA carrier indicating 4940 station back on air after missing a few days. Was previously reported the night before: ``Estación 4940 on at 0735 UTC Nov. 25 --- There were some reports this station was missing in recent days, but it's on tonight. During a band scan here near Seattle, I immediately heard music on 4940 kHz -- first a woman singing nearly operatically at times in a Latin-American song at 0735 UTC, a male announcer talking in Spanish for a moment or two, then (a bit surprisingly) a male-sung contemporary Christian song called "I Will Rise" at 0741 UTC. What I was receiving matched with audio heard loudly via the SDR in Bonaire. Reception was generally poor to barely fair. Eric Fetters-Walp, Lake Stevens, Washington`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Nov 26 at 0432-0440 UT, jiggled a loose connexion on the Wellbrook loop cable, now this is more like it: 711, 774, 819, 855, 1044, 1098, 1107, 1125, 1134?, 1314, 1368? Likely mainly Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 1141, Nov 25 at 0442 UT, carrier het to 1140s. Long assumed to be Cuban, but doubts were cast in NRC IDXD by ed. Bruce Conti; however, we can`t be positive a blackout in Cuba was 100%: ``1141 unID NOV 1 0800 - Loud het against 1140 WRVA. By 1000 UTC, barely above the noise floor but still there. NOV 3 0000 - Het against 1140 WRVA and CBI. Roy Barstow via RealDX reported receiving the 1141 kHz signal during the electricity blackout in Cuba, so this widely received offset frequency signal apparently isn't Cuba as had been previously presumed. Not from 1140 WQBA which is found on frequency via the Boca Raton KiwiSDR. Not 1140 WVVO Viva FM on frequency via the Melbourne SDR. 1140 ZP22 Central Radio strong and on frequency via Paraguay SDR. Nothing on 1140 or 1141 daytime via Bonaire SDR, only a strong YVRL R. Ideal signal on 1130 kHz. Ecuador SDR not connecting. Colombia, Peru, and Puerto Rico would be logical suspects if not Cuba. [Conti-NH]`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 2356 UT November 26

Monday, November 25 2024
** BENIN. 1476 kHz, Monday November 25 at 0417 I`m on 1475 USB for any hint of TWR s/on sked for 0419 M-F - but no trace of it thru 0420 on my E/W loop. Later into Canary SDR, at 0426 it is audible with hymnusic, S9+5 vs HNL there (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CANADA. 2749 USB, Nov 25 at 0302 UT, marine weather by autoYL voice JBA in French. Least prior skedstart is 0240 for 1.5 sesquikW VCS-21, Halifax NS, her last bc of the day, but not labeled as other than English by dxinfocentre.com/mb/htm -- I hope this ref be really more recent than the header date, 2020-05-13. Still need to find the official CCG site for such info. Nothing audible now on the further NF/NL area frequency 2598 where the least prior skedstart would have been 0207, so over by now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** CHINA [non]. 9790, Nov 25 at 0317, CRI relay via CUBA, S9+10 in English but modulation is suptorted; at least better than last night. Still here on A24 channel instead of 5910 for B24 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** MEXICO. Since I`m DXing at 0408+ UT Monday November 25, I tune around for the semi?-mandatory weekly government program `La Hora Nacional`. 6185 does not have same programming as several MW stations. I start with 1050 XEG and then check for //s. Sounds like same show with W&M conversation, but nothing synchronized! Does each station get a prefeed to play back individually, not really a network? Others 730, 900, 1670 == and 1570 XERF which I time running 50 seconds behind XEG, when there is an obvious shift from talk to music (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 267 kHz, Nov 25 at 0706 UT, JBA carrier, surely 25 watt ND beacon HET in HenryEtTa OK -- the only one on this frequency anywhere in the world per both RNA and dxinfocentre references. Right now not enough signal vs HNL and some local blob to copy the ID, but have succeeded many times before. Henryetta is S of Tulsa, E of OKC where US 75 intersects with I-40 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 9610, Nov 24 at 2130, VOT English insufficient into UTwente, so will get the next broadcast: 5960.003-, Sunday Nov 24 at 2300, VOT English, S9+25/35 into UTwente with some hum and more CCCCCCI than usual, but doubtless far better than would have been direct, not even checked. S/on by Efsun the axentuated, and she into olds I do not try to perceive. 2317 multi-lingual ID filler reel. 2319 It`s Teachers` Day in Turkey. 2320 `Weekly Analysis` by some Prof. Dr. at a Foundation whose names I can never copy, about prospects for the next 4 years of Trump. [why does everyone assume 4 years? He`s rather old with lots of enemies, obviously in mental decline, and OTOH, he said no further elexions would be needed, since by 2029 he`ll be dictator for the rest of his life, if any].
