Glenn Hauser logs February 15-16, 2021  View Printable Version
Tuesday, February 16 2021

Logs
** CUBA. 5040, Feb 16 at 0012, again tonight, S9+10/20 of dead air
from RHC during English hour; still open carrier at 0030, 0040 and
0234 chex. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Not tried again until 0608 when manages to modulate the other English
hour, but combating high local line noise level. Yet now all the other
transmitters are on and strong in well-modulated English! 6000, 6060,
6100, 9700. Something`s not wrong at RHC. But topic is about murder in
Canada (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13700, Feb 16 at 1500, RHC is JBA but music barely // 13740
which promptly disappears, and still on // 11760. No spurs audible. By
1601, 13700 itself achieves S9/+10 before it stops mod and also goes
off. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 350-MCW kHz, Feb 16 at 1913 UT, ND beacon RG at Will
RoGers World Airport, OKC, is back! After missing a week; and the
subzero and snowpiles are not over yet. The other two, 341 EI in EnId,
and 255 SW in StillWater, are still AWOL.

[non]. 341-MCW kHz, Feb 16 at 1915 UT, however has a JBA mixture,
probably the peripheral ones, OIN Oberlin KS and DNI DeNIson TX, but I
can`t unravel the IDs to be sure (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1050 kHz, Feb 16 at 1916 UT, partial non-ID mentions 99.1
and NewsChannel 8, weather for Tulsa. It`s 1 kW ND, KGTO; the 99.1 is
of course a mere translator, K256CR, per NRC AM Log. KGTO has an edge
over the other Okie to here, KXCA Lawton, with one quarter the power
and 19% further. Log says both are sloganned ``Heart & Soul``, non-ID
not heard at this moment (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 1640 kHz, Feb 16 at 1459 UT, KZLS ``Enid`` is off the
air. Transmitter site is east of Hennessey, where I hear there are
power outages, so maybe that`s it. Am pretty sure 1640 was still
running at bedtime bandscan circa 0700. It`s back on at 1708 UT check,
also when OG&E System Watch does not show any significant outage
around there, altho 908 customers are powerless in Enid:
https://www.oge.com/wps/portal/oge/outages/systemwatch/
(Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 90.1, Feb 15 & 16 at 1558 UT, KUCO-FM lacks `StarDate` as
sked we always try to catch, instead stays plugged in to WCPE The
Classical Station in NC, which is normally relayed only overnight
05-12 UT. Automated local ID still manages to fire around 1600 after
JBA LF cuetone. KUCO must be unable to operate normally, perhaps due
to again losing STL during horrible freezeweather. Ditto for other
StarDate time, 0058 UT. No explanation on KUCO-FM website still
displaying normal program schedule (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2073 monitoring: confirmed Monday
February 15 from 1900:32 on IRRS 7290 via Bulgaria, S9+25/30 into
UTwente SDR, but as usual inevitable very heavy splash from both
sides, 7280 Vietnam and 7295 East Turkistan. 7290 already on at
tune-in 1858.6; modulation cut on just before 1900 with a few words of
WOR! but then abbr`d s/on, FSN headlines squeezed in before WOR
restart. By 1925 recheck, has faded down and the splash is even worse
by comparison. Not chopped off at 1929 finish but a few seconds of
silence before music. Next:

1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

thanks this week to William Hassig, Mount Prospect IL, for a check in

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds,
to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15555-USB, Feb 16 at 1948, rabid gospel huxter at S8, as
WJHR Milton FL inbooms rather than absencing. Checking DX Map for
sporadic E, finally at 2123, I see a 36 MHz MUF about halfway between
along the ARK/LA border. Originally compared to 19m neighbors at 1950:
15825 WWCR JBA S4-S5; 15770 WRMISMTV S9+30; 15730 VOAGB S9+25; and
15610 WEWN S5-S7 but with long-path echo (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1220, WCPH, Etowah TN, eQSL received UT Feb 16 for Jan 2 DX
test:
https://www.w4uvh.net/WCPH_1220_DX_20210102_GlennHauser_QSL.pdf
now #111 via http://www.worldofradio.com/QSL.html
with this note from the Courtesy Programs Committee QSL manager:

``Congratulations on your reception report of WCPH 1220 which was
found to be correct. Please see the attached QSL in PDF format. Thank
you for being a part of this very successful DX test. Vy 73 de Joe
KJ8O in behalf of the Courtesy Program Committee --
*** Avoid internet congestion, real radio uses airwaves. ***
Joe Miller, KJ8O, Desert Hot Springs, CA, Locator DM13sw``
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1280, Feb 16 at 1553 UT, cursory bandscan finds a hole here,
semi-local KSOK Arkansas City KS missing, presumably due to frigid
weather and/or power outage; back on with music at 1735 check. see
also OKLAHOMA: 1640 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs February 14-15, 2021  View Printable Version
Monday, February 15 2021

Logs
** CUBA. 5040, Feb 15 at 0237, RHC is S9+10 of dead air when checked
on Bonaire SDR, while 5025 Rebelde is VG OK. Something`s always wrong
at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 9535, UT Mon Feb 15 at 0239, of all the RHC Spanish
frequencies known at this hour on 13, 11, 9, 6 and 5 MHz, this is the
best and yet very poor S5-S6 into Bonaire SDR. I`m checking for `En
Contacto` DX program, since it was missing from first airtime Sunday
morning. I switch to En Vivo webcast at http://www.radiohc.cu which is
attached to a 24-hour program schedule you won`t find anywhere else,
claiming E.C. is at 9:35 pm EST Sundays --- but it does not really
start until 0240 UT Monday! At least it exist.

Not a hint of any Profesor Arnaldo Coro Antich; instead unID OM
announcer goes lickety-split in Spanish but 100% comprehensible with
excellent enunciation unlike Arnie. But annoyingly and insultingly,
two main topix are boilerplate about how satellite communications
work; and boilerplate about HF propagation --- each broken up into
alternating brief segments, as if listeners` attention spans cannot
handle any more than a couple minutes of each at a time. Also some ham
special events, and a brief bit about what SSB is, resorting to
English-language abbreviations. At closing, locutor name ID sounds
like Marvin Hueso? Same writer credit as last week but adding an
uncopied matronymic last-last name. Theme music fill out for 15
minutes ending at 0255, then `En Cía del Dr`, which in the mornings is
supposed to get 10 minutes at 1450; so did it run until 0305 tonight?
Unknown. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

Looking thru the attached webcast schedule, with lots of duplicates,
http://www.radiohc.cu/audio_en_tiempo_real
it breaks away from Spanish for only two English hours, at 20 UT, as
on SW 15140; and at 11 UT when I unthink it be on any SW frequency.
Also Esperanto Sunday at 1600 only; the daily afternoon lingo lineup
of Arabic and Creole before English, French and Portuguese after. I
suspect this arrangement be what also go into the several RHC FM
frequencies on the island (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13564 S4-S6, 13632 S5-S6, 13768 S8-S9, 13836 S6-S7,
13904-trace, all approx., Feb 15 at 1533, extremely distorted FMish
spurblobs out of RHC 13700-AM transmitter at ~68 kHz intervals; vs
high local line noise level. The FM mode confronts it better than when
tuned in AM, and the S-readings are while in FM. Original is somewhat
undermodulated and so are the spurs. Something`s always wrong at RHC
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 350, 341, 255 kHz, NDBs are still AWOL as of Feb 15, and
unlikely to be repaired until record low temps abate --- in Enid minus
6 F so far and lucky to break zero as high today and tomorrow.
Wind chill around minus 20 at noon in Enid. Next low to be minus 12 F.
Fortunately no power outages here yet, tho the gas company warns of
possible shortage, that being our main heating method. We have a few
inches of new snow on the ground, and after a Monday pause, another
snowstorm is forecast. We are well-stocked and staying in for the
duration (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 9980, Feb 15 at 1546 very quick check, TOMBS
on WWCR is now running only 13 seconds behind 9955 WRMI; why? But 9980
only has another gospel huxter voice in the background, self-QRM,
unseems also BS. SAWA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 341-MCW kHz, Feb 14 at 1442 UT, ND beacon OIN, 25 watts from
Oberlin KS, mixing with something else ending in I, but cannot
perceive it as local EI Enid, which had been AWOL since Feb 9. I try
again at midday 1805 when there should be groundwave only; still a
mix, one ending in -I and seems three letters. Checking
dxinfocenter.com, I see DNI in Sherman-DeNIson, TX, just across the
River Red and which has been heard rarely before; the next closest one
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2073 monitoring: confirmed Sunday
February 14 from 2300:24 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6159.93, S7-S9; following
IS & ID loop from tune-in 2257; no sign-on but 2300:06 bit of music
fill.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 15 at 0058, just in time the 0030 on
WRMI 7730, VG direct.

Also confirmed UT Monday February 15 at 0230 on WRMIs: 5800 VG
S9+10/15 into Bonaire SDR, with some local? noise but not jamming; and
7780 good S9+15 into UTwente SDR; also WRN web/satcast. Next:

1901 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Bulgaria to WNW, 594-Italy
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2300 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts:

US funds to Glenn Hauser, P O Box 1684, Enid OK 73702

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds,
to woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1030 kHz, Feb 15 at 1525 UT, at tune-in handy immediate ID
as ``1030 AM KCWJ`` and country music; has SAH of almost 2 Hz,
116/minute. KCWJ is at edge of groundwave but maybe also skywave
boost, from Blue Springs (Independence) MO; next closest 1030 is KBUF
Holcomb (Garden City) KS; and don`t forget the one in NW AR: altho one
wonders if far KCTA Corpus Christi TX or KTWO Casper WY could also be
in the mix since they are 50 kW. FWIW, mwoffsets shows:

1030 1029,9965 KBUF (Holcomb, KS) [-1030.0003] 2020-11-24
1030 1029,9978 KFAY (Farmington, AR) 2018-12-07
1030 1029,9995 KCWJ (Blue Springs, MO) 2018-01-23
1030 1030,0000 KTWO (Casper, WY) 2021-01-20
1030 1030,0025 KCTA (Corpus Christi, TX) [-1030.0041] 2020-12-30

e.g., i.e., KCWJ and KBUF 3 Hz apart, tho measured two years apart.
But KCWJ and KFAY were only 1.7 Hz apart (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 15825, Feb 15 at 1542, JBA carrier, so WWCR-1 is back on air
after outage awaiting some replacement part. Into Maine SDR it`s
S9+15/30 --- and still squealing! So fixing that had nothing to do
with the latest problem. How can anyone stand to listen to it? Doesn`t
matter, as long as gospel huxters and/or far-right extremists be
willing to buy the time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
