Glenn Hauser logs June 30, 2021  View Printable Version
Thursday, July 01 2021

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, June 30 at 1445 tune-in via Brasília
remote, LRA36 is on again this Wednesday, only S2. There are very
frequent canned IDs and mostly music. 1447.5 LRA36 ID. 1508 NAA ID =
``Nacional Antártida Argentina``. 1511.5 LRA36. 1516.7 NLRP ID =
``Nacional, La Radio Pública``, now up to S2-S3. 1527 closing
announcement: ``todo por hoy; nos despedimos`` and Antártida song
until 1530.5.

BUT it does NOT go off, soon starts more music! 1540.8 LRA36 ID. 1544
NLRP ID and talk for a while, JBA. 1552 music. 1601.7 LRA36 ID, music.
1608 NLRP ID, music, 1617 talk. 1618 NAA and LRP IDs. 1619 15476
mentioned. 1624 ``NAA, En Todo el País, LRP`` ID, music. 1627 mentions
Base Esperanza. 1630 music. 1636 stops and off without closing (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13762 & 13638 approx., June 30 at 1435, weak F# FMish
spurblobs plus & minus 62 kHz out of 13700-AM; something`s always
wrong at RHC. And again with beepery adjacent on 13705, see USA!
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** EGYPT. In the British DX Club, Peter Jones reported June 30:
``Radio Cairo English back on?? I had an email from Radio Cairo today
(I was asking about the possibility of returning to Shortwave), and
apparently the live streaming is now working (not sure how long this
has been the case).
https://www.onlinehorizons.net/livestreaming3/Player/NS/EN_EUR.html
2115 UT with the link. I will listen in.``

So will I: First feature on webcast lasts only a few minutes; bit of
music and then another, with modulation widely variable. I heard a bit
of English and then music on that link at 2117; 2120 resume talk
presenting ``Features, a new feature each day`` about an Olympic
swimmer. Buzz on modulation. 2131 timesignal and `News in Brief`,
one-liner headlines, including heat wave in SW Canada, so appears to
be current. 2133 ``presents: This week in History``. What about SW?
9720 is the imaginary A-21 frequency for 2115-2245 English per WRTH
Update. Nothing there via UTwente (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 13705, June 30 at 1435, beepery again adjacent to 13700 RHC.
At 1443, I ask for help on the WOR iog:

``Again today at 1435 I have some kind of beepery on 13705 just above
weaker RHC. Could anyone identify what kind of transmission this is,
decode or even identify it? Glenn``. Walt Salmaniw, BC, replies:

``Glenn, it's the VOA! Here's what I decoded in MFSK32 at 14:59 from
Victoria, best on 13705 LSB (using FLdigi):

`Gracias por recibir y decodificar este texto por radio de la Voz de
América. ϵbnd
Envíe su informe de recepción a mdail@usagm.gov
Please send your reception report to mdail@usagm.gov`

OK, now to figure out from where? 73, Walt``

``!Surely Grimesland/Greenville. Does Kim Elliott know anything about
this? Glenn``

Subject: Reception on 13705

``I read about an unknown transmission on 13705 using a digital mode.
This morning, just before 15:00 UTC, I quickly tuned to the channel
and was able to decode the following using FLDigi software. I'm
located in Victoria, BC, Canada and used a Perseus SDR radio, and a
Flag antenna. I'd appreciate information on where this transmission
originates, the power, antenna azimuth, and purpose of the
transmission. I recall the old VOA Radiogram show from years ago from
Kim Elliott. Many thanks! Walter Salmaniw MD`` Reply:

``Hi Walter, Thank you for inquiring about our transmission. This was
just a generic test transmission using the familiar Radiogram format.
The transmitter power was about 70 kW. If you would like a QSL card, I
would be glad to send one to you.

``OC after 15:00 and carrier cut about 1502:30. Pretty much confirms
Greenville, Glenn. Note that Kim Elliott is included in the
response! Cheers! Walt``

Still questionable is how this was mixed up with RHC audio yesterday,
and why VOA happened to pick such an adjacent frequency? (Glenn
Hauser, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2092 monitoring: confirmed
Wednesday June 30 at 2100 on WRMI 7780, S7-S8 into Maryland SDR; and
19 seconds later on WBCQ 7488.882, S9 to same SDR, showing minus 118
Hz carrier offset.

NOT confirmed Wed May 30 at 2200 on WRMI 9955! Another cancellation
without notice; still on skedgrid but instead some gospel huxter in
Spanish. Next, and last:

0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

New WOR 2093 should be ready by early UT Friday July 2 at 0130 on
WRMIs 5850 & 7780 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15329.23-USB approx., June 30 at 0123, weak 2-way
INTRUDERS in colloquial Spanish, very difficult to pinpoint with very
brief interchanges, the stronger one with ``engine noise``. Hey, who
would notice, right smack dab in the middle of an almost vacant
broadcast band? Cambio (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** CHINA [and non]. Re my log of something 13920+ after CNR1 jammer
off 1400* June 28, could it be Sound of Hope? Inconclusive, but
Wolfgang Bueschel replies, ``TAIWAN 13919.991 kHz a tiny poor signal
noted at 1352 UT June 29 remotedly on Tokyo SDR unit.`` And previously
on March 7, 2012: ``13920.004 SOH Xi Wang Zhi Shen. Miaoli, Mandarin.
S=5, 0756 UT. 73 wb df5sx``.

My CNR1 jammer logs June 29 at 1421: 13530 JBA vs CODAR; 13130 weaker
Chinese; 12880 even weaker S5-S8; 12820 & 12500 JBA carriers (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. Something`s always wrong at RHC, and here is something
stranger than ever. June 29 at 1424 I start tuning for spurs on the 13
MHz band, first finding 13580 with extremely distorted music blob with
reconfirmed F# tone, that`s 120 kHz down from 13700 so next one should
be around 13640: yes, but as soon as I get there it vanishes while
13700 has been replaced by fax?? sounds at S9+10. Beepery goes on and
on and seems deliberate rather than random, some brief pauses. Reminds
me some of fax and some of SSTV. I cannot decode either. Briefly at
1430 there is a mixture of this and undermodulated music at S9+10/20.
One zero-beat is at 13703. At 1432 I check for more on the plus side:
13762 has F# blob, also weakers around 13825, 13886, 13948, trace
14013; and JBA trace circa 14075 where it collides with that hamband
beepery, whatever it be. Back to the fundamental, which is now
centered on 13705 with the SSTV/fax beepery; spurs now circa 13579,
13518 trace. 13705 continues past 1458. At 1459 I measure JBM carriers
with F# tones on 13761.73 and 13638.29. At 1502, 13700 is off, but now
13705 is playing RHC music, no beepery, 1503 dead air and 1504* off! I
wonder if the RHC broadcast sites, besides being shared with jammers,
spies, also be shared with utility services (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, it`s another Tuesday already June 29, so I
remember just in time at 1525 to check UTwente for what`s on this week
from IRRS: last week from 1500 it was ` Sounds Irish` music, and
before that it was Kashmir Civitas clandestine. It`s back to the
latter, S9+20/30, talk in presumed Urdu mentioning Kashmir with
strumming musical background. 1527.5 ``salaam aleikum`` greeting in
closing; 1528 a bit of other music and cut off air early? at 1528:15*,
soon back on for a split second before gone for good.

Others had been hearing this earlier: Arthur Pozner near NYC, Harold
Sellers in BC, and Paul Walker in AK.

Pozner says: ``Confirmed about the actual language. It is the same
"Kashmir" program in Urdu and was received in several countries with
various results. And a station ID came on in Russian: "This is
Inter-Radio Romania"!``

Sellers says: ``fair-good in southern British Columbia at 1519 with
presumed Kashmiri. Man with stringed instrument music in background
into an on location report of some kind. Missed sign off which was
before 1528. Was good at 1523`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. Quick check of nearby 25-watt ND beacon status, June 29
at 2255 UT: 255 SW Stillwater still off; 342 EI Enid and 515 PN Ponca
City still ON (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2092 monitoring; next:
1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW
2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 7780 to NE
2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW
2200 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 [jammed?] to SSE
0130 UT Thursday WRMI 5010 to S

One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds,

** U S A. 5800, June 29 at 0553, NO open carrier this Tuesday from
presumed WRMI after-hours (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) However:

** U S A. 7730, June 29 at 0557, open carrier/dead air from this WRMI
TOM frequency, while the others, 7570, 5850, 5950 and 9395 are OK
(Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU. 7260, June 29 before 0559, and 11835 after 0600, JBA
carriers from presumed R. Vanuatu resuming normal schedule (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

Glenn Hauser logs June 28, 2021  View Printable Version
Tuesday, June 29 2021

Logs
** CHINA. 13920, June 28 at 1359, tune-in just in time for CNR1 jammer
to timesignal and off 1400* --- but wait, there is now a much weaker
signal offset to the plus side but not measured. That could really be
Sound of Hope, Taiwan. Wolfie may have measured it precisely sometime,
but I haven`t found it (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 13740, 11850, 11760, 11670, June 28 at 2324, all these RHC
frequencies scheduled now are absent; but 9710 & 9535 audible, as are
CRI relays on 13650 and probably 11980 harmonic. Something`s always
wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SAUDI ARABIA. 17895.072, June 28 at 1437, Qur`an is JBA on always
off-frequency; even weaker JBA carrier on 17614.989, the pair
amounting to the only stations on band (OSOB) (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** VANUATU [and non]. 7260, June 28 at 0543, JBA carrier, presumed R.
Vanuatu back on `normal` sked and about to QSY to 11835. So ahead of
time I park on 11834-USB to hear the carrier cut on, which it does at
*0559:31, still JBA vs high ~S9 local 24/7 line noise level.

[I called it in to OG&E a week ago and a guy came by only to tell me
that someone from OKC would have to come up and deal with it when they
get around to it. There used to be a powerline noise DF guy in Enid
but he`s moved on to a new position. Still QRX]

Ron Howard had reported RV AWOL from 7260/11835 for three days June
25-26-27, and had this Reply from Rob Wagner (Australia) on June 27:

``"Yes Ron. Here in mid-winter, I am hearing RV on 7260 for much of
the day from 0200 to s/off. My notes show that on June 25, RV was
there on 7260 at 0200 but gone when I checked that band again at 0310.
Irregular operations and I suspect technical difficulties. I have not
checked the other freqs. Rob"``

BTW, we would not be hearing RV on 7260 as early as 0330-0400, rather
VOA Somali via Vatican yet VG signal here way off-target, violating
Separation of Church and State (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 90.1, June 28 at 1518 UT, on household radio listening
to KUCO, briefly overcome by gospel huxter in English, i.e. sporadic E
trying to break thru, certainly not the usual CCI from also classical
Radio Kansas KHCC; and nothing close enough to do that by Vance
airplane scatter. So out to the car for DX bandscan, resulting in
zilch till I quit at 1537. There is lots of Es on DXMAPs, some spots
surpassing 90 or 100 MHz; and guys back east have DXed OK stations,
but I am not so lucky in reverse. But then I am not constantly
monitoring with a big antenna (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
