Logs
** CANADA. 6754-USB, Sept 16 at 0133, CHR Trenton Military is on
tonight with VOLMET for Zagreb, Split... Are these and other odd
locations in Europe of particular interest to RCAF? It appears that
any flights succeed during weeks CHR is gone (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHz, Sept 16 at 1438 check, NDB PN Ponca City is
on now, for the record (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130 kHz, Sept 16 at 1439 UT check, KLEY Wellington KS is
still on with S9+20 of steady deady air (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Thursday September 16 at 0030 on new WRMIs: 9455, S9+15/20 direct; and
9395, S9+25/30 direct, louder and stronger. As usual, this is odd
since at NW we are roughly halfway between the WNW and NNW azimuths
for these, but they do not arrive equally sounding.

Also confirmed the final SW repeat of 2103, UT Thu Sept 16 at 0130 on
WRMI 5010, S7-S9 and quite noisy here.

WORLD OF RADIO rescheduling on IRRS/NEXUS-IBA --- ``Hi Glenn, We had

Glenn Hauser logs September 14-15, 2021  View Printable Version
Wednesday, September 15 2021

Logs
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.98-RCUSB, Sept 15 at 1429, LRA36 is on, good
S5-S8 into Brasil SDR. 1431 ``Nacional Antártida Argentina, en todo el
país, la radio pública``, Celsius temps, ``El Lejano Sur``, LRA36 and
RNASG IDs; more and more songs and IDs; 1510 ``noticias`` and
Antártida song; 1514 ``a partir de`` as if just starting; 1548 the
multilingual IDs. Usual stuff, past 1635+.

Meanwhile, Manuel Méndez, Lugo, Spain, informed as early as 0518 UT:
``ANTARCTICA, 15476usb, LRA 36, Radio Nacional Arcángel San Gabriel,
Base Esperanza. The station staff announces via whatsapp that they
will be on the air today Wednesday with a marathon program, 24 hours
uninterrupted. I guess they will start at 1400 UTC, like other
Wednesdays with its usual program.``

All day and all night? Maybe, but NO signals into 3 Brasilian SDRs at
recheck 2258; obviously they need a lower band at night.

The whatsapp jpg includes a truncated direct audio link:
...mp3.icecast.magma.edge-access.net... (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 6754-USB, Sept 15 at 0147 UT, CHR is inaudible again;
despite high storm noise level should still be detectable if on.

15034-USB, Sept 15 at 1418, Trenton Military finally reactivated here,
in aviation weather without ``no-report-receiveds``, but then terminal
forecasts are NRRs from several including Trenton itself. At 1422 ID
and wrong timecheck as 1420 zulu. Day frequency had been unheard for
about a month (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6165, Sept 15 at 0150, RHC English is back here after jump to
6145 yesterday only; // 6000. Something`s always wrong at RHC.

6100, Sept 15 at 0621, RHC in wrong language Spanish instead of
English, which does remain on 6165, 6060 under humbuzz, while 6000 and
5040 are off. Wolfgang Bueschel explains the 6060:

6060even CUB, RHC Bauta in Spanish, BUZZ STRING bad audio / modulation
performance, 9 x heavy strings visible either sideband, each 9 X times
at 120 Hertz distance apart. Bad main power serving. 1080 Hertz
broadband buzzy audio. Log 0150 to 0245 UT on Wednesday September 15,
at AJ1L Massachusetts eastern US state, and at VE6JY at Edmonton
Alberta Canada SDR remotedly`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** MALI. 5995, Sept 15 at 0628, ORTM better than usual S9/+10 with
strumming and yelling, into non-French talk. Normally audible by 0600
whether or not RHC has closed 6000 by then (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHx, Sept 14 at 2212 UT: NDB PN, Ponca City, is
now ON (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** TURKEY. 9830, Sept 15 at 2200, VOT English strong but with RTTY QRM
on plus side into Maryland SDR; by sign-off 2248 the RTTY is hardly
audible, IS until 2254* uncovering it still there (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A. 13565-CW, Sept 15 at 1414, HIFER beacon K6FRC is JBA with
call repeating only, allegedly 1.8 milliwatts from Patterson CA, and
never audible more than an hour later than this (Glenn Hauser, OK,
WOR)

** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2103 monitoring: asleep thru the
Sept 15, Wed 1030 on WRMI 5850; anyone hear it?

** U S A. 9330, Sept 14 at 2226, WBCQ-6 is on again, only fair here
off the side during WLCR Portuguese (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 771 kHz, Sept 15 at 0154 UT, JBA carrier, het to 770
stations; very close to 771.00 from the pitch of it but not measured.
This of course is not a 9/kHz plan channel, 765 & 774. Possibly some W
Hem 770 transmitter mispunched exactly 1 kHz off? Some months ago
there was a Cuban on 711, causing confusion with genuine TAs on their
correct channel. WRTH lists two of 10 kW on 770, a R. Artemisa and a
R. Rebelde. Too weak to get a bearing on it. MW Offsets has nothing
more than 19 Hz above 770; the Cubans at .987 and .0015 (Glenn Hauser,
OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1413 kHz, Sept 15 at 0612, the JBA carrier again, see
previous report, maybe Spain; now it`s weaker than 846 presumed
Kiritimati, there is no 771, but there are (2) on 837, most likely
Canary/Spain (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Sept 15 at 0155
UT, despite high storm noise level from nearby Kansas: 684, 729, 774-,
837, 855, 882, 999, 1044, 1107(2), 1125(2, closer together than the

Subject: [HCDX] Glenn Hauser logs September 13-14, 2021

U S A. 6159.951, UT Tue Sept 14 at 0052, Area 61 via WBCQ is in the
clear thanks to RHC on 6145 instead of 6165, but don`t count on it to
last. Cowboy song finishes, then lament for someone who has died, a
member of the Grand Ole Opry; 0053 classic Camel cigarette ad in full,
which would be illegal today but OK as an historical relic? Trouble
is, Camels still exist, I think. Credit to G.O.O. on AFRS, NBC and
WSM, NBC Monitor; Yes, G.O.O. from 13 Sept 1958y is on this week's
Area 61 sked:
http://zappahead.net/#2021-0913-area61
BTW, as a non-zappahead, I now know that Larry Will's 'cosmikdebris'
handle derives from a Frank Zappa song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp6LT2MdaPI
--- and into WBCQ The Planet ID, a few more minutes of music fill
before another ID and

0100, Hal Turner touting reaching 70 countries on SW via WRMI & WBCQ,
is that all? in addition to his pipsqueak AM outlet in Utah, 13-watt
KYAH 540 in Delta. Well, it will be on night power if legal from 0145
in September, from 0100 UT in October. I bet Hal never mentions KYAH
coverage, power, which at best is 1 kW days (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

U S A. 9330, Sept 14 at 1517, WBCQ-6 SuperStition is off again after
resuming WLCR nonsense yesterday. Hope the new $ 240K PA tube did
not break again? Still absent at 1700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Logs
** ARGENTINA [non]. 9395, Sept 14 at 0100, RAE, ``Argentina to the
World``, via WRMI, English announcer Fernando Farías explains that for
the past sesquiyear since March 2020 they have all been working from
home and producing one program per week; hope before long to get back
into the studio for five per week, M-F. Plugs address for eQSLs:
QSLRAE@gmail.com BTW, it doesn`t matter whether e-mail addresses are
in caps or not or both; unlike URLs after / (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CANADA. 6754-USB, Sept 14 at 0040, CHR is back at least on night
frequency; still nothing earlier in Sept 13 daytime chex on 15034-USB.
Recent aviation weather for Keflavík succeeds; but the other
infostream, terminal forecasts, gets ``No Report Received``, from
Shannon, Prestwick, Keflavík!, Lajes. ``Trenton Military`` timecheck
at 0042 claims it`s only 0040 zulu, typical. Then Shearwater av wx
succeeds (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** CUBA. 6145, Sept 14 at 0050, S9+20/30, RHC English is here on
alternate frequency to 6165! // 6000, but I doubt it will last.
Something`s always wrong? at RHC. Good news for WBCQ Area 61, now in
the clear on 6159.951 --- see U S A.

6145, Sept 14 at 0617 next check, S9+30, still here not 6165, during
wide-ranging N America weather info from Chief Meteorologist,
typically around :15 into one of the English hours. 6000 is off but
6100, 6060 humbuzzy and even 5040 are still on in English (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** FRANCE. 21690, Sept 14 at 1532, RFI Swahili JBA into Kuwait SDR,
nothing yet on registered 25775 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** KASHMIR [non]. 15170, Sept 14 at 1524, Kashmir Civitas reconfirmed
this Tue, S8-S9 into UTwente, passionate speech in presumed Urdu with
background noise; 1527 back to quiet studio talk with strumming
background until chopped off at 1529.2*, via IRRS via ROMANIA (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** OKLAHOMA. 515-MCW kHz, Sept 14 at 0625 UT, PN, Ponca City, NDB is
off again. Seems is becoming sporadic. Still off at 1712 (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 17855, Mon Sept 13 at 2200, REE, English token semihour
still propagating sufficiently on daring MUF-abutting frequency
starting out at ``midnight`` local time -- really less than 2200 local
*mean* time; but, still I may listen on the PL-880 portable with
nothing more than a few meters clipped on; altho it fades somewhat,
and this old PL-880 annoyingly keeps switching between wide and narrow
bandwidths without any buttonic intervention.

Justin Coe forecasts, after current events, another edition of the `DX
Program` which is really nothing but a mailbag --- and the issue of
naming, or re-naming it does not come up this week. The first
dekaminute is really more about the René Magritte art exhibition
opening tomorrow in Madrid ---
https://www.museothyssen.org/en/exhibitions/magritte-machine
and a singer dying, than about hard news. 2210 a song.

2212 DX Program starts: first got a card portraying Myrtle Beach SC
from Otto? Schwartz just across the border in Calabash NC. It was sent
on August 23 but just arrived. Quotes his reception report of the 8/18
program with some of the topix, which is rather incestuous if not
pointless now. Including music by Javier García who it seems J.C. has
featured more than once. SINPO 45544 into his DX-440; and he also
heard the 7/24 program.

Then a brief voice mail from WOR iog member Peter Jones in GB, who was
hoping for a resumption of the English-language podcasts, never mind
SW. J.C. explains they are still missing due to a staff shortage but
hopes that will soon, unknown when, be rectified, ¿mañana?

Rest of program is a song, `Noche Tranquila y Serena`, the lyrix of
which J.C. first reads in translation. 2220 song starts with SFX of
waves lapping? 2228 outro that the song was dedicated to both
writers-in, adiós and a bit more music to semihour timepips and into
French. One wonders if any more than two English listeners had
contacted in the last month? Is there an e-mail address direct to
Justin, in addition to p-mail and v-mail? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** SPAIN. 15520, Sept 14 at 1514, REE in Spanish, S6-S9. Off the back,
to ME but best chance for us if we want to hear it before 1800 M-F,
when 17855 opens thisaway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

Credit to G.O.O. on AFRS, NBC and
WSM, NBC Monitor; Yes, G.O.O. from 13 Sept 1958y is on this week`s
Area 61 sked:
http://zappahead.net/#2021-0913-area61
BTW, as a non-zappahead, I now know that Larry Will`s `cosmikdebris`
handle derives from a Frank Zappa song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dp6LT2MdaPI
--- and into WBCQ The Planet ID, a few more minutes of music fill
before another ID and

0100, Hal Turner touting reaching 70 countries on SW via WRMI & WBCQ,
is that all? in addition to his pipsqueak AM outlet in Utah, 13-watt
KYAH 540 in Delta. Well, it will be on night power if legal from 0145
in September, from 0100 UT in October. I bet Hal never mentions KYAH
coverage, power, which at best is 1 kW days (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 9330, Sept 14 at 1517, WBCQ-6 SuperStition is off again
after resuming WLCR nonsense yesterday. Hope the new $ 240K PA tube did
not break again? Still absent at 1700 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

** U S A. 1130, Sept 14 at 0654 UT, open carrier atop KWKH, no doubt
still KLEY Wellington KS, still on air for nothing. 1507 UT in
daytime, nothing but S9+20 dead air, ditto at 1700 UT.

1550, Sept 14 at 1508 UT and other chex, still unable to confirm its
sibling station also made a license-saving comeback. Only a JBA
carrier, DF for Sapulpa OK, not Winfield KS. Maybe KKLE came and went
again very briefly; From NRC DX News Sept 21, published Sept 13:

``SILENT STATIONS
Formerly silent stations informing the FCC they are back on the air:
1130 KLEY KS Wellington – Silent Aug. 26, 2020; back on the air Aug 12
at 1:30 p.m. local time.
1550 KKLE KS Winfield – Silent Aug. 26, 2020; back on the air Aug 12
at 12 noon local time.`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)

UNIDENTIFIED. 1413 kHz, Sept 14 at 0623 UT, JBA carrier a big
surprise, the only significant one in 9/kHz scan after 846 no doubt
Kiritimati, better than usual at 0620. Is it TP or TA? No obvious
hits, per WRTH MW listings: Highest power E Asia/Pacific is 50 kW
Japan, but well pre-sunset and nothing on other JJ frequencies even
the biggies; lots of lower-powered, Australia, Bangladesh, China,
India, Indonesia, NZ, Philippines, Taiwan. All too early except
possibly NZ. The superpowers are surely too far east into the dayside,
500 kW Moldova, 800 kW Oman. Still circa sunrise are RNE5 synchros,
Spain adding up to 35 kW; but no other obvious Spanish carriers (Glenn
Hauser, OK, WOR)
