Glenn Hauser logs Decemer 21, 2021 |

Tuesday, December 21 2021
** CUBA. 6165, Dec 21 at 0735, indecisive RHC S9+20 with music presumably English hour, instead of 9700, and no other RHCs active this late. Something`s always wrong at RHC.
The other side: ``READ TODAY THE CUBA OF TOMORROW December 21, 2021 EMIGRATION 'Cuba will be a stopover, but not my country anymore' --- People in Cuba are desperately looking for money to make it to Nicaragua. JORGE ENRIQUE RODRÍGUEZ | La Habana`` https://diariodecuba.com/cuba/1640030479_36326.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 13710.051, Dec 21 at 1541, Qur`an at S9-S6; always heard off-frequency, but this time I take time to measure, SRI/SBA (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 18131-USB, Dec 21 at 1536, K8C, ``The Christmas Train``, pausing to ``offload some liquid``; had intermittent carrier QRM on 18132, jhamming? See my Dec 16 log when he was on 18127-USB (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Re WORLD OF RADIO monitoring, which I confirmed starting UT Mon Dec 20 at 0359.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160-, John Carver replies: ``Glenn, For what it's worth I tried to listen to WOR on Area 51. About eight or nine minutes into the broadcast it just disappeared. Never did come back. In the previous four weeks I heard another partial show once and nothing the other times. The last four weeks or so I'm lucky if I get to hear an hour or two of Area 51 programming before it disappears. No axe to grind or anything. John`` I asked him, ``John, Tnx, reminds me that just because a WOR starts doesn`t mean it will air to the conclusion. I need to recheck toward the end. This time do you think it faded out or transmitter went off the air completely? Glenn`` ``As far as I could tell, Glenn, I believe the transmitter was on the entire time. I thought the feed had dropped and was waiting for it to come back. That happens a lot. It got down to only three or four minutes left and I turned it off. Probably should have left it on to see if the next program started on time. The S meter stayed up while I was waiting for the program to pick up again. Thanks man. John`` Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?] 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. Thanks this week to William T. Hassig, Mt. Prospect, IL, for a Winter Solstice contribution on a US bank to: Glenn Hauser, PO Box 1684, Enid OK 73702. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9455, Dec 21 at 0727, as Jeff had predicted, this WRMI-5 is back on air; first noted missing Dec 2 and ever since. But it`s wacko paranoid preaching by BBB on YWS or T2P, NOT what`s on the System F 9455 schedule, Family Radio in Spanish! S9+10; and the other 31ms are also propagating this nightmiddle, 9955 also S9+10 but louder with TOMBS, and 9395, S9+20 with Xmasmx on guitar. System E sked calls for TOMBS on 9395, not 9955 where System B is supposedly world music on internet only. But the transmitter grid at 07-08 shows 9395 with SMTV cult, 9955 with TOMBS. Too bad the WRMI skeds cannot be accurately coördinated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9955, Tue Dec 21 at 1547, beepery from `SW Radiogram`: this new without notice WRMI time unknown to Kim: https://swradiogram.net/ Altho I mentioned it back on Dec 10 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 9385, Dec 21 at 0730, S2-S3 of English talk, sounds like M. Angelica, so WEWN is active. So poor, but modulation seems OK. 15610, Dec 21 at 1913, S3-S4 of English RCC stuff into PEI SDR, also so poor, but mod seems OK on WEWN afternoon. SAM shows carrier offset minus 78v Hz, quite a bit = 15609.922v. Kiwis are sometimes mis-calibrated, so I check another, E Falmouth MA, Cape Cod: MUCH better here and offset as only +5 Hz. And on this S9+15 signal I can hear that WEWN squeal (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. 6114 approx., Dec 21 at 0732, still RTTY INTRUDING, QRM to 6115 R. Nikkei, JAPAN unless tuned with narrow USB. I assume it also interfere with CONGO when on 6115 earlier before 0600, right, Ron? Can anyone ID the RTTY source? Glenn Hauser logs December 20-21, 2021 |
|
Tuesday, December 21 2021
** CUBA. 9700, Dec 20 at 0750, S5-S6 in Spanish not English, so it`s RHC, and no other frequencies by now on 5 or 6 MHz. Could not hear it at 0400 on 9700 or 6165 when WOR was on 6160-. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, Dec 20 at 1617, S9+20 of dead air in Spanish from RHC; while the only other midday frequency, 15140 is S6-S8 and undermodulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** GERMANY. 9670, Dec 20 at 0751, TOMBS at S6-S9, i.e. via Channel 292, one of my better receptions of Rohrbach, unfortunately with repulsive but lucrative programming (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1000, Dec 20 at 1939 UT on caradio, KTOK OKC just barely modulated in some network talkshow -- so it`s their fault, not one of my receivers. 2001 recheck during local news, normal modulation; 2007 Hannity show back to undermodulation. So it`s sporadic and no one is paying attention in the control (?) room. It`s hard to think of any show more deserving of undermodulation (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1640 kHz, Dec 21 at 0154 UT check, KZLS Enid is talking but KQOB 96.9 is musicking, certainly not //. New NRC DX News says they are, but the original story from https://radioinsight.com/headlines/215834/alice-to-give-way-to-conservative-talk-in-oklahoma-city-as-long-running-lma-comes-to-end/ says not until January 1: ``Alice To Give Way To Conservative Talk In Oklahoma City As Long-Running LMA Comes To End --- by Lance Venta December 3, 2021 96.9 The Eagle Alice 96.9 KQOB Enid Oklahoma City 1640 KZLS After being leased to Cumulus Media and predecessor Citadel for the past nineteen years, Champlin Broadcasting will resume programming 96.9 KQOB Enid/Oklahoma City on January 1, 2022. That will mean the end of Variety Hits “Alice 96.9” as Champlin will flip KQOB to a simulcast of Conservative Talk “1640 The Eagle” KZLS Enid. Champlin also owns Classic Country “99.7 Hank-FM” KNAH Mustang in the Oklahoma City market. KQOB held a 2.1 share in the October 2021 Nielsen Audio ratings. 1640 KZLS held a 0.2 share. The 100 kW 96.9 signal will help the station better compete against iHeartMedia’s 1000 KTOK and Tyler Media’s 1520 KOKC/95.3 K237GE. Lance Venta`` I`ve long suspected KZLS too be operated out of OKC, not Enid. 96.9 is that station with a tall tower ~halfway between Enid and OKC west of Crescent, inheriting the original Enid allocation for KCRC-FM, later KNID, obviously trying to penetrate the huger OKC market. Likewise KZLS is partway to OKC from Enid, site E of Hennessey and unusually for an X-bander, direxional NNW/SSE, which makes it a tougher catch for TA and TP DXers. KQOB call was originally to suggest ``Bob`` handle to spelling-challenged Okies. Champlin Broadcasting derives from a long-gone oil company, successor Hiram Champlin, who appears also to own the undeveloped ``kite field`` where I try daytime DXing in northern Enid (Glenn Hauser, Enid, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 20 at 2300, NO signal from VOT English into UTwente nor at some later random chex during the hour. Something`s always erroneous at Emirler (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2117 monitoring: someone did hear the WMRI Europe broadcast via Channel 292, Germany, Sun Dec 19; tnx, Art: ``Glenn -- I did hear WOR on 9670 this morning, a bit after 1330. Couldn't consistently read it, but it was clearly you. Regards, Art Delibert, North Bethesda, MD`` Also confirmed Sunday December 19 at 2100 on AM Italia, 918 kHz, S9+10 via Noale SDR, atop some CCI, SAH, following double ID as ``IRRS Shortwave``. Also confirmed Sunday December 19 at 2330 on WRMIs: 9955, S9+10/20 into Pardinho, Brasil SDR; and 5950, S9+20/30 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed UT Monday December 20 at 0030 on WRMI 7730, VG direct Also confirmed UT Monday December 20 at 0130 on WRMI 9395, only S8-S9 into Missouri SDR. Also confirmed UT Mon Dec 20 at 0230 on WRN North America webcast Also confirmed UT Mon Dec 20 from 0359.5 on Area 51 via WBCQ 6160, minus 55.5 Hz into Missouri SDR = 6159.9445, S7-S9 and no Habana ACI on 6165. Next: 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?] 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. 15770, Dec 20 at 1614, WRMI-9 is gone again; nothing on disgraced FB about this since Dec 17 when it had come back. And yes, 9455 WRMI-5 is *still* gone without notice for weeks now. I asked Jeff White about these and he replies Dec 20 at 1826 UT: ``Glenn: 15770 is undergoing repair and maintenance today, but should be back on later today. 9455, with any luck, should be back on tomorrow. Jeff``. Then at 2011: ``15770 is back`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 0217 UT December 21 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

Glenn Hauser logs December 18-19, 2021 |
|
Sunday, December 19 2021
** BOLIVIA. 5952.459, Dec 19 at 0016, Radio Pio Doce on its signature split frequency, as measured at three Brazilian SDRs; JBA carrier but some audio of energetic talk and music best at Brasília #2 if tuning SAU or AMN to avoid WRMI 5950. No longer there by 0100. Tnx to tip from Lúcio Otávio Bobrowiec in Brasil to the WOR iog at 2313 Dec 18. It`s been inactive for months. Both LOB and I found the last previous log of it was by him on April 20, 2021, and that was also after months` absence (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** EGYPT. 9899.591, Dec 18 at 2209, R. Cairo is S9+40 into UTwente, but extremely distorted English modulation, unusable. As usual (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. 1000 kHz, Dec 19 at 1758 UT, KTOK OKC is dead air; ID fires just before 1800, back to dead air news. This on the R75; but after 1805 on other radios portable, PL-880 and DX-398, there is weak modulation of a talk show which chex out // KTOK stream not synchronized. Maybe the R75 put an internal overriding signal on 1000? Have not noticed this before. And/or KTOK is really very undermodulated (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** OKLAHOMA. RF 27, Dec 18 at first check 1602 UT, NO signal from KFOR, NBC in OKC. Altho we are at edge of marginal level-1 tropo blob, all other channels seem normal except for a BAD signal on 21. KFOR must really be off the air! It pops back on at *1606 with `Meet the Press` underway (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** TURKEY. 5960, Dec 18 at 2352, VOT English has been well modulated and strong direct but with a bit of a squeal, now signing off this ``1330 on 12035`` broadcast, chopped off air before interval signal can complete one play. So no German to collide with KBC this week (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 2117 monitoring: confirmed UT Sunday December 19 at 0030 on WRMIs: 7730 VG direct; 5950 S9+40 into KB0FX MO SDR, but with a het from Bolivia, q.v. unless avoided. Also confirmed UT Sun Dec 19 at 0419.5 at the midpoint so started early about 0406 on WA0RCR, 1860 AM, MO, S9+10 as far away as Knoxville but with considerable too-close CWQRM; another 160m contest? I`m rarely awake in time to check Sun 1330 on WMRI Europe 9670 via Channel 292, Germany. Did anyone hear it Dec 19? Next: 2100 UT Sunday IRRS 918-Italy, 207?-Italy, 1323?-Italy 2330 UT Sunday WRMI 5950 to NNW 2330 UT Sunday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?] 0030 UT Monday WRMI 7730 to WNW 0130 UT Monday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0400vUT Monday WBCQ 6160v Area 51 to WSW 2330 UT Tuesday WRMI 9955 to SSE [jammed?] 1030 UT Wednesday WRMI 5850 to NW 2200 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0130 UT Thursday WRMI 9395 to NNW, 5010 to S Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html Our non-commercial broadcasts and website depend on voluntary support. One may also contribute via PayPal, not necessarily in US funds to: woradio at yahoo.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 5085, UT Sunday Dec 19 at 0053, WTWW-2 is starting `TOUTA` early(?) as usual, distorted here so I switch immediately to $ tereo webcast. Bob Heil says there will be Xmasmx the next three weeks; ends abruptly at 0143, ID and back to ham or rock stuff (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) UNIDENTIFIED. Trans-Atlantic JBA MW carrier search, Dec 19 from 0709 UT: 558, 639, 684, 693, 774, 837, 846-TP, 855-2, 936, 999, 1044, 1107, 1125, 1215 kHz. 936 used to be a regular from presumed 200 kW Agadir, Morocco, but first time even a JBA carrier detected in a long time (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** UNIDENTIFIED. 6940 AM, Dec 18 at 2316, S4-S6 of barely audible pirate music, past 2357, barely avoiding utebonker circa 6942-6945. More logs here all unID indicating strongest in W North America: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,90419.0.html 6925 AM, Dec 18 at 2317, JBA carrier weaker than 6940, also as unID: https://www.hfunderground.com/board/index.php/topic,90412.0.html Coastal Rock Radio has been there but no one supposes it now (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report dispatched at 1940 UT December 19 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/

** CUBA [and non]. 9700, Dec 18 at 0650, JBA music not // RHC so must be Turkey, but RHC not on alternates 6165 or 6145 either. It is still on in English 5040, 6000, 6060 with buzz, and 6100 just barely modulated. Somethings` always wrong at RHC. At 0659 I notice that 5040 has switched to Spanish, despite no Spanish scheduled anywhere after 0600. Something else wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR)
** CUBA. 11760, Dec 18 at 1606, RHC Spanish S9/S7 with humbuzz. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** JAMAICA. 18157.5 USB, Dec 18 at 1603, 6Y6Y concluding contact with a W7 who says he is QSYing away; then 6Y6Y worx some more simplex. ``6Y6Y Jamaica flag Jamaica QSL ADDRESS ONLY : OPS at 6Y Lester Veenstra, 452 Stable Lane, Keyser, WV 26726, USA. Which means rifle in Bulgarian, or more generically, gun in Russian (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** NORTH AMERICA. 11840, Dec 18 at 1820, no signal from Station YHWH, anti-Christ pirate; nor anything like it elsewhere on 25m. He used to be fairly active but not always, middays, especially weekends? If anyone could have heard, Rick Barton in AZ, but his last report of Josiah was exactly four weeks ago, Sat Nov 20 until 1811*. On Sept 5, 7 and 8 he was using 9700, 9720, 9775 in the 1440/1755 period, so we should look around those too. Night frequency 7475 last reported Nov 6; previously quite active on 7470 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 2117 monitoring: barely confirmed Dec 18 the UT Sat 0230 on 9395 WRMI; at 0242, JBA carrier direct; trace at Missouri remote reading S5, and nothing to Winnipeg; slightly better to northern Utah, S3-S4, enough to be sure it`s my voice if not recognize it as current edition, but surely it is. Hope there was sufficient reception somewhere, but the MUF tends to plummet after dark in the swamp; yet in the nightmiddle it`s often back up, e.g. 9955 good around 0700. Also confirmed Sat Dec 18 at 1700 on WRN for N America webcast. Also confirmed starting at 2032 UT Sat Dec 18 on WA0RCR, 1860-AM MO, S9+10 into nearby KB0FX remote. (7490.9v), UT Sat Dec 18 at 0100, WBCQ webcast not even trying SW for `AAAWWW`. Unusually starts with a rock tune, but it`s really A&A, not TimTron. Most of hour consumed with discussion of AM Radio, and SW, whether they have a future? Maybe will last another ten years. Mentions that Angela`s maiden(previous?) name was Milberry (sp?) and she grew up in Toronto, not NB. 0132 some brief anti-government remarx implying that Pres. Biden is a criminal; and that COVID-19 is a bio-weapon by China [but, but, why would they want to kill so many of their own people and countless customers elsewhere?]. Allan does advocate vaccination. Would like to get a used solid-state transmitter for their 780 station in Maine as electric bill for tube-type keeps going up. 0138 finally datestamp at 17 of December YOOLF 2021. For 9330 transmitter, staff have found a way to regulate the temperature of water cooling the big final amplifier tube, heat exchanger, bypass valve; needs to be not too hot, not too cold, circa 90-100 F. Also they are finally about to get the backup Diesel generator on line, capable of 2 megawatts at 4160 volts, 3-phase. Testing it Wednesday caused some interruptions in 9330. Needs to have it available when commercial power is flickering as in storms, not good for the transmitters. Now on 7490, 6160, 4790; maybe will get 3265 back on ``sometime this summer`` [as if we are already into `this` winter], but have no clients for it [you would if you moved the 7490 ones there for dark low-MUF winter nights!]. Seeing lots of sunspots checked on their solar-scope daily, so propagation is looking up. NO phone calls interrupting, and only a couple emails at 0157; 0159 prayer, and almost 0201 JIP Hal Turner. John Carver`s version: Tonight's show started on time on 4790, 6160 and 7490. 6160 was listenable this evening for a change and 7490 was plagued with heavy interference that sounded like Hams on SSB. Allan and Angela in the studio. Program opened with a song about AM radio. Opening chatter about the song quickly changing to talk about AM radio in general. At 0120 Allan read an article on radio listening in the world which revealed that more people outside the US listen to radio than the people living here. Fewer smart speakers used world wide than here also. After that the talk returned to AM radio. A bit later Allan mentioned that they had made some modifications to the transmitter at the superstation. Including some changes to the cooling system so that in winter slightly warmer water would be pumped to cool the tube to keep from pumping freezing water onto a hot tube which would lead to problems with the tube. He also announced that they have finally completed work on the backup generator for the new transmitter. He stated that the brief outages recently of the transmitter had to do with checking the backup power source. He also said that on backup power the transmitter would be receiving slightly less power than normal. Reading of a few emails at 0157 and closing prayer at 0159. Program was off at 0200. John, Mid-North Indiana`` (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 720 kHz, Dec 18 at 1619 UT, WGN Chicago still in well by skywave with `Home Sweet Home` DIY show on ``AM 720``, 312 AC. This is 161 minutes after Enid SR at 1338 UT. 670 bears a SAH between weaker signals of 76/minute or 1.27 Hz, no doubt KLTT and WSCR. MWoffsets shows WSCR as exact and KLTT as 1.8 Hz plus (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. 1130 kHz, Dec 18 at 1617 UT, KLEY Wellington KS is still musicking at steady S9+10, as it was on bandscan yesterday and another later today, instead of usual dead air (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) ** U S A. Another low-noon MW bandscan attempt to find a quiet spot in or near Enid, this time driving along Southgate on the SE corner of Enid, a little further from 960 & 1390. But even dirt sideroads have powerlines along them, and major line along Southgate is very noisy. At spots part of the MW band may be clean, but not the rest of it. One which is good below 1200 is on a curve to the south by Woodring Airport -- maybe the standing waves happen to cancel out there? From there and an earlier stop between 1908 and 1923 UT Dec 18, paying less attention to frequencies/stations I noted yesterday: 650, C&W music, likely WSM Nashville, fast SAH likely KGAB Wyoming 700, song, medium SAH, probably Metroplex TX and WLW? 720, only trace of a SAH now from WGN and KSAH 850, Spanish, so KJON TX not KOA Denver, which can make it on GW to the north side of Enid 990, Spanish much stronger, so KFCD TX 1050, rumble SAH from the two Okies, one way off frequency 1090, music and medium SAH. KEXS near KC/MO is not unusual, the other maybe KAAY LR/AR, skywave since its GW coverage is poor 1200+ high noise level, but: 1340, KGHM MWC/OKC is dead air at 1923 After this, heading home, I rest my ears on the dead air of 960 KGWA, and the tail wagging the dog, 100.9 translator, from 1934 UT until finally cut on during ad at 1959; was no one paying attention? What to do about paid advertisers, refund, make-good, or hope no one but y.t. notice? Non-ID as ``Talk 100.9 KGWA``, but then full legal ID with translator call and 960, but the static RDS on FM shows ``KGWA-FM`` which is *not* its real callsign. Into Fox ``news`` on the hour, but 1906 back to dead air! Sob, this is the station pushing far-right extremist talkshows, such as Lush Rambo for as long as he lasted. KGWA owner is also behind the Big Deal local promotion in downtown Enid of ``world`s tallest Xmas tree`` --- except it`s not a single tree but several stuck together, which have been blown apart by high winds, and repaired. My next holiday project: check out the three locations in western Enid which have featured music & light shows on Part 15 FM frequencies in years past (Glenn Hauser, OK, WOR) This report despatched at 2203 UT December 18 _ Hard-Core-DX mailing list Hard-Core-DX@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/hard-core-dx http://www.hard-core-dx.com/
