Saturday, May 04 2019
** CUBA. 9790, May 4 at 0331, CRI English relay is S9+20/10 but just barely modulated. Something`s always wrong at RadioCuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** MALI. 11640, May 3 at 2107, CRI English relay VP but detectable // much stronger 13630. 11640 is scheduled 1800-2130 in Hausa, Arabic, Portuguese and finally English (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. RF 17, May 4 at 1416 UT, K17JN-D, Enid`s only local TV signal, the 3ABN satellator, is on air at Good+ signal level, but black screen and silence on all six subchannels, rather than only three of them. Boo, hoo. Hepburn tropo map for 1500 May 4 shows a level-3 blob between Enid and OKC, but nothing unusual beyond traces of Bad signals on low-power channels 21 and 42 (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** TURKEY. 9515.007V, May 4 at 0320, VOT English YL talking about Ottoman Empire history, undermodulated and muffled, soon into music, S9+10/20 and with flutter. Frequency is also wobbling slightly, Doppler effect? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [non]. 9740, May 3 at 2103, ``VOA Afrique`` ID in passing during French news, fair; wonder which site? It`s Woofferton UK, 2100 -2130 M-F, 250 kW at 158 degrees (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. WORLD OF RADIO 1979 monitoring: missed checking Friday May 3 at 2200 on WRMI 9955, but presumably replayed. Confirmed UT Saturday May 4 at 0130 on WRMI 7780, fair. Due to an uploading delay by gh, 1979 continued rather than 1980 for these two times. Ivo Ivanov, Bulgaria observes: ``GERMANY, Reception of World of Radio via HLR on 6190 CUSB, May 4: https://swldxbulgaria.blogspot.com/2019/05/reception-of-world-of-radio-via-hlr-on.html 0631-0700 6190 GOH 001 kW / 230 deg CeEu English Sat, weak signal`` WORLD OF RADIO 1980 monitoring: woke up at 1159 UT Sat May 4, one minute too late to confirm that 1980 had been broadcast as scheduled at 1130. As usual WOR cannot be confirmed Saturday May 4 at 1431 on HLR 9485- CUSB; via UTwente no signal, just super-splash from 9490. Anyway, HLR probably is repeating 1979 instead of 1980 this weekend. Two of our UT Sunday times on WRMI have been replaced by ``tests`` of Hobart Radio International, according to Jordan Heyburn, UKOGBANI, who has a segment on HRI: Sunday 0030 & 0830 on 7730. Otherwise, WOR: 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM ND 2100 UT Saturday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7730 to WNW [canceled?] 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315] ND 0830 UT Sunday WRMI 5850 5950 7730 [some canceled?], NW/WNW/WNW 1030 UT Sunday HLR 7265-CUSB Germany to WSW 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE 0130 UT Monday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW ND 1815 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania ND 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 0800 UT Tuesday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW [2 editions] ND 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 to SSE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE [it appears we will now be running on a Friday-to-Thursday cycle, so freshest new airings are on weekends] Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 7490.123v, Friday May 3 at 2119, WBCQ with `Behaviour Night` ancient music recordings, but too weak in noise level to enjoy. Earlier today the 500 kW transmitter was reported testing with open carrier only on 7490 --- I`ve yet to see anyone confirming its exact frequency which should be much closer to 7490.000. Unfortunately, we cannot expect any of our favorite programs to become audible as Superstation time will primarily be for the funders, the flat-earth ``Worlds Last Chance`` ministries. 7490+, UT Saturday May 4 after 0000, William Tell Overture but AAAWWW hosted this week instead by Pirate Joe Ferraro, from his own studio at WHVW in NY. Not long before AW calls in from some hamfest in New Hampshire, and he`s on the horn until 0034 as I keep listening for the latest info on the 500 kW project, summarizing: Initial on-air testing has been on 7490 with open carrier only, not 9330 as he had publicized earlier. PJ`s own show `Shortwave Saturday Night` *may* be on the 500 kW, on its regular schedule 7490 UT Sunday 0100-0400, at the usual azimuth of 245 degrees as on the old antenna. The 500, transmitter #6, is all water-cooled, including tubes, coils, vacuum capacitors costing $ 25K each. The whole thing is very complex and all computer-controlled. Modulation is 95% efficient. Power level is being brought up slowly; was 135 kW with brief tests to 400 kW. WLC programming normal sked should begin later this month mainly on 9330. A new frequency in the ``5-6 MHz band`` will be available at night. (Nonesuch yet in HFCC, http://hfcc.org/data/schedbybrc.php?seas=A19&broadc=BCQ but shows hour-by-hour languages and azimuths planned? for 9330 and still lists the imaginary 15420) Part of the time I listen on 9330.13v, but as it fades down, back to 7490.12v. At 0034 JP resumes with totally unrelated ``stream of consciousness`` musings about cars and Detroit, and at 0055 recheck something about US Grant. Here`s John Carver`s version: ``Tonight's show started early on 7490. Pirate Joe is the host this evening while Allan and Angela are at NearFest. Killing time with mild political talk while waiting for Allan to call in. Difficult to copy Allan over Pirate Joe's phone patch. Lot of static this evening. Allan announced that they have been testing the new transmitter the last two days and are planning to take it to full power tomorrow. Possibly will be broadcasting tomorrow's 7490 programs over the new transmitter. Most of the program this evening is devoted to political talk and WHVW items with little about WBCQ. It was announced that a Go Fund Me page had been started for WHVW. Show was off the air at 0100. John, Mid-North Indiana`` AW`s latest twit circa 12 UT May 4: ``More power today for the worlds superstation. Hopefully to 500kw. Testing on 7490khz. Later this week on 9330khz. One megawatt average load for 500kw out at average modulation. Wow. All for you the special shortwave listeners. Support us. The last free speech radio voice. Ground.`` Ground refers to his shot of some grounding cables by some posts, supporting the feedline? After WWCR is finished with 7490 at 1500, May 4 at 1540 check, I do have an open carrier on 7490.002, which must be WBCQ-6, but it`s only S2-S3, certainly not Super. Of course if this were put on 11, 13 or 15 MHz in the daytime it would propagate much better, but no plans for that. Could really be 7490.000 within my margin of error (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9475 & 5830, May 3 at 2104, both WTWW-1 day and night frequencies are OFF (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 1602 UT May 4

DX/SWL/MEDIA PROGRAMS updated May 2: http://www.worldofradio.com/dxpgms.html
** ANTARCTICA. 15475.971, May 2 at 1405, JBA carrier, no doubt LRA36 on signature off-frequency, mostly oceanic path from Esperanza to Enid, so still active on Thursdays; and Tuesdays altho I could not detect it on April 30. Later today May 2 at 1820 also heard in Germany by Harald Kuhl, ``almost readable, with talk program`` on ``15476`` USB plus carrier (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1980, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 15140, May 2 at 1823, RHC in dead air instead of Arabic. Hope the announcer did not choke! Something is always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENIG DIGEST) ** MADAGASCAR. 13710, May 1 at 2056, OM solo hymn in English about ``Faithfulness`` then announcement in Chinese! This is supposed to be the Radio Feda = Arabic hour of MWV; not the first time WCB has upmixed their languages. Chinese supposed to follow from 2100 on 11610: so was that one in Arabic? (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1980, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MALI. 13630, May 1 at 2057, Chinese lesson in English, S6-S8; must be Bamako CRI relay as scheduled at 2000-2100, plus anomalally another 30 minutes of English until 2130 starting French. Lack of reports lately of any of these relays but I have not been seeking them, just ran across this. Sporadically active? // for this is 11640: not heard there aside big Cuban numbers signal on 11635 (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1980, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 570, May 2 at 1105, dominant signal is Spanish from the south, religious program, YL with American accent mentions ``Bible church``, OM with not, plugging a bunch of meetings/revivals? with specific home addresses in San Antonio TX, Salinas, El Centro and several other places in California, from one evening to the next from April 26? to May 5. By 1122 predicating with frequent keyword ``restauraciÃn`` Ã la previous owner of KVOH. Wondered if KLIF had gone the way of KEXB, flipped to partial Spanish gospel huxtering, but think it better-just-be XEBJB Monterrey NL, which despite a ``regional mexicana`` music format is a.k.a., ``Nueva Vida`` which of course connotes religion, at least at this daypart. Raymie Humbert recently compiled a list of stations with religious concessions, but not including XEBJB; in Monterrey on AM, only 1140 XEMR; see DXLD 19-16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** MEXICO. 590, May 2 at 1119, music and ads, 590 frequently plugged, finally ``Sabrosita`` slogan heard, which = XEPH, 25/10 kW in MÃxico CDMX, rather than something closer like XEFD in Tamaulipas (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1979 monitoring: confirmed Wednesday May 1 from 2100 on WRMI 9955 S8/S9+10, also on WBCQ 7490.15v, JBA S3-S5. Also confirmed UT Thursday May 2 at 0100 on WRMI 7780, fair. Or via http://www.worldofradio.com/audiomid.html Also linx to podcast services. SW broadcasts should be: 0930 UT Friday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW ND 2200 UT Friday WRMI 9955 [NEW] to SSE 0130 UT Saturday WRMI 7780 to NE 0629 UT Saturday HLR 6190-CUSB Germany to WSW 1000 UT Saturday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW [May 11, alt weeks] ND 1130 UT Saturday WRMI 9955 to SSE 1431 UT Saturday HLR 9485-CUSB Germany to WSW 1930vUT Saturday WA0RCR 1860-AM ND 2100 UT Saturday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0030 UT Sunday WRMI 7730 to WNW 0300vUT Sunday WA0RCR 1860-AM [nominal 0315] ND 0830 UT Sunday WRMI 5850 5950 7730 [some canceled?], NW/WNW/WNW 1030 UT Sunday HLR 7265-CUSB Germany to WSW 2130 UT Sunday WRMI 7780 to NE 0130 UT Monday WRMI 9395 to NNW 0230 UT Monday WRMI 7780 to NE 0300vUT Monday WBCQ 5130v Area 51 to WSW 0330 UT Monday WRMI 9955 to SSE 0930 UT Monday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW ND 1815 UT Monday IRRS 7290 Romania ND 0100 UT Tuesday WRMI 7780 to NE 0800 UT Tuesday Unique Radio 5045-USB NSW [2 editions] ND 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 to SSE 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v to WSW 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 to NE [it appears we will now be running on a Friday-to-Thursday cycle, so freshest new airings are on weekends] Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9330.17v, May 2 at 0036, WBCQ is S9+20 with TOMBS about Planet X, but doubt it`s the new 500 kW transmitter which AW said would start testing with RF May 1, so we have been checking it all day. I expect initially they will not be running it full-bore, but also expect it would not be off-frequency like the old transmitter. Random chex later May 2 still find no sign of powerful new transmitter (Glenn Hauser, OK, WORLD OF RADIO 1980, DX LISTENING DIGEST) UNIDENTIFIED. 11712.3 approx., May 2 at 1412, SSB talk, but cannot get it to resolve by tuning USB or LSB back and forth. Could be third harmonic of a ham around 3904, where nothing is heard, lower band not propagating in the daytime (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 0038 UT May 3

Wednesday, May 01 2019
** ALASKA. 7395, May 1 at 1301, KNLS IS and Chinese IDs, S3-S5 from 100 kW at 300 degrees oppositeward (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA. 6000, May 1 at 0505, RHC English is suptorted; 6060 is good S9+20; 6100 OC/DA at S9+30; 6165 JBM at S9. Recheck at 0608: 5040 & 6000 off, 6060 good, 6100 & 6165 undermodulated. Something`s always wrong at RHC. Also strangely enough, no jamming audible at 0608 on 5980, but surely will be back before 0700 RM (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** CUBA. 13739.240, May 1 at 1352, RHC auto-knocked way off-frequency again today at S9+30. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** NEW ZEALAND. 9700, May 1 at 0500, RNZI timesignal just after opening this frequency is JBA! Instead of usual SSOB. Yet K-index at 06 is only 2, no storms (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 15205+ and 15435, April 30 at 1738, both SRI transmitters detectable, and both go off at 1757*. So my report yesterday must have had wrong times an hour plus making me think they were running later! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** SOUTH CAROLINA [non]. 6115, April 30 at 2208, WWCR is S9 but JBM, presumably TOMBS during this hour M-F, too weak to make a match to 9330+ WBCQ. MORE: See USA WWCR, WBCQ (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** TURKEY. 9830, April 30 at 2206, NO signal from VOT English to North America yet again. Wake up, sloppyrators at Emirler! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. 9470, April 30 at 1944, NO signal from WEWN English unlike yesterday, when 9470 was running 19-24 UT instead of correct 15610 which is indeed back on today altho JBA, and still at 2212 check. So 9470 on April 29 must have been a mistake, or possibly a test. Ironically, today there would have been no ACI from 9475 WTWW since it`s again stuck on night frequency 5830 in daytime. 12050, what about the other transmitter for Radio CatÃlica Mundial = WEWN Spanish? April 30 at 1945, an S3-S5 signal with call-in YL host, but *not* in Spanish, must be Kanuri from Radio Ndarason International, which thinx it`s a good idea to share any frequency with a 250/500 kW transmitter anywhere else, but lux out today with WEWN evidently off. Originally, RNI was all via Ascension but now HFCC A-19 shows 19-21 is via Woofferton UK, while 18-19 (if really active? not in Aoki/NDXC) remains Ascension. Furthermore it shows WEWN 12050 as only 100 kW, which I could certainly believe from its underpowering signal when audible. By 2212 a JBA carrier on 12050 presumably now RCM. 500 kW transmitters downgraded to 100 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9475, April 30 at 1738, NO signal from WTWW-1 day frequency, and yes, once again, Ted has failed to QSY from night frequency 5830 where it`s managing S6-S8 over a fully insolated one-megameter path. And 9475 still off at 1944: See also 9470 WEWN report (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5890, it`s Wednesday May 1 but WWCR is still out of order like Tuesday: at 0503, open carrier/dead air at S5-S8 about equal level to modulated 5935. 3215 is S9+20 with TOMBS at 0504, despite WWCR`s own pdf program schedule still dated April 1 showing this at 0300-0500 only Tue-Sat, then off the rest of the night. TOMBS is still running on 3215 at 0610 check, when 5890 is still OC/DA. 4840 which was modulating earlier, is now S9+10 of OC/DA despite scheduling as TOMBS all-night 0600-1200 weekdays (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9330.17 approx., May 1 at 1552, WBCQ is JBA, sounds like Brother Scare same as on 9395 WRMI, but never synchronized. Allan Weiner twitted circa 12 UT May 1: ``@AllanWBCQ 4h4 hours ago --- Testing the 500KW free speech flamethrower this week. RF being made today. Check 9330khz. All systems go. Exciting stuff this real radio stuff. One transmitter to billions of receivers. In real time. By real people. Direct to you from WBCQ.`` But obviously not yet. When on, it should be better than JBA and closer to 9330.000 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 1615 UT May 1

Glenn Hauser logs April 29-30, 2019 |

Tuesday, April 30 2019
** CUBA. 15230, April 30 at 1415, RHC is just barely modulated here at S9 during `Sonido Cubano`, while 15140 is sufficient at S9+10. Something`s always wrong at RHC (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
** CUBA [and non]. 5980, checked at 0053 UT April 30: this is not VOA in Spanish [as Wolfgang Bueschel assumed?], but TV Marti, per numerous IDs after an interview about the elexions in Spain. Possibly they mentioned Voz de America at some point. Heavy jamming, but TVM on top. Not hearing any RRI in the mix at first, but detectable at 0111, Romanian // 7420 in the clear, both scheduled 0000-0200. RRI QSY to 5980 was blindsided by OCB`s abrupt decision to put TVM audio on SW. TVM also plugged again the secure website to access it; could not copy but seems to end in .info. So far I have not found a reference to that on the insecure site martinoticias.com or http://www.radiotelevisionmarti.com (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** OKLAHOMA. DTV RF 13, April 30 at 1424 UT, all four OETA channels are displaying the neat `Technical Difficulties` TP illustrating a wrench, screwdriver and hammer amid the old-style circles, and tiny ID lettering at the bottom --- both OTA and the two available via cable. Here is a shot of it made last year: http://www.w4uvh.net/OETAtechpat2018.jpg Erratically audio-only comes on and sometimes video, before back to TP, ruining reception of programming until 1500 UT, then apparently back in business. A small but perhaps severe storm was moving thru OKC, maybe turning OETA`s satellite dish for PBS into a rain gauge! (In Enid circa 0900 UT we had the same severe storm dumping two inches of rain into ours; and flood watches continue. And a tornado warning issued at 1616 UT for the Carney-Cushing OK area, just NE of OKC. At 1636 another warning for Osage County; fortunately away from Enid and not moving thisaway. But NWS interrupting OETA programming.) The other OKC stations remained OK, except RF 16, KOCM ``46`` Norman, black screen and silence until recovery of Daystar gospel-huxtering at 1437 UT (Glenn Hauser, Enid, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** SAUDI ARABIA. 15435, April 29 at 1822, weak Arabic talk and pop music. Presumably SBA program 1 extended, as all references show its span is only 1500-1800, General program (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) 15205.057, April 29 at 1823, VP talk, ME song, also presumed SBA always off-frequency here, and also on past nominal 1545-1757 span per Aoki/NDXC, 1600-1800 per EiBi and HFCC; 500 kW, 320 degrees USward beyond Eurotarget; WRTH lists as Qur`an program. The next day, I am having second thots --- were these really heard at 1722 and 1723 UT, wrong times entered due to DST confusion? Must recheck today (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) 17615.067, April 30 at 1416, JBA carrier from always off-frequency SBA is nevertheless the SSOB, nothing else audible but an ever weaker one on 17780 from BBC Ascension. Nothing audible from the other Riyadhs on 17705 & 17895 which supposedly run until 1500 and are aimed USward unlike 17615 at 190 degrees! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** TURKEY. 9830, April 29 at 2247, VOT English to North America has been on, but successfully all the way from *2200? Now it`s sign-off time with ``news pre-recorded`` disclaimer; S8/S9+10, and right into IS loop. And no German extra after 2300 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A [and non]. WORLD OF RADIO 1979 monitoring: confirmed UT Tue Apr 30 at 0114 the 0100 on WRMI 7780, fair. Next: 2100 UT Wednesday WRMI 9955 2100 UT Wednesday WBCQ 7490v 0100 UT Thursday WRMI 7780 [it appears we will now be running on a Friday-to-Thursday cycle, so freshest new airings are on weekends] Full schedule including AM, FM, webcasts, satellite, podcasts: http://www.worldofradio.com/radioskd.html (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 9470, April 29 at 1941, surprised to find something here, Christian call-in in English, S8-S9, but tuning LSB totally separable from much stronger 9475 WTWW-1 at S9+20. 1947 EWTN ID in passing, guest a know-it-all about Catholic theology. 9470 is of course WEWN English frequency registered for 09-13 UT only, 335 degrees toward ``Bejing``. After a 6-hour break, English supposed to resume at 1900, 85 degrees for Africa on 15610 --- but nothing on 15610 now. Recheck 2251, 9470 is still on with call-in past 2300. So is this nevertheless deliberate, 9470 propagating much better around here anyway than 15610? Or a mistake, failure to retune transmitter after previous emission? Normally, two US SW stations would never be authorized simultaneously only 5 kHz apart! We shall soon find out if this recur from 1900 UT April 30 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) ** U S A. 5890, April 30 at 0604, WWCR open carrier at S9+10/20, and also 3215 at S9+20/30 with some hum; while the other two are modulating on 4840 and 5935. Another Tuesday when this happens reliably, altho I can`t be sure it does not also happen certain other days of week. WHY? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) DTV PIXILLATED ART FROM THE HAUSER COLLEXION I am amassing a growing collexion of DTV breakup images from my Sanyo screen, often producing startling/beautiful art. Each one is unique and can never be replicated. This happens when stations are on the verge, only partially decoding and/or when the frame freezes during a channel change, capturing parts of two different stations. I have not kept track of the stations, times or circumstances involved, altho IIRC this latest one involved KDCD 31 Derby KS, which fortunately froze long enough for grabbing a camera: http://www.w4uvh.net/HauserDTVPixArt1.jpg Eventually I plan to organize a gallery of these ARTifacts (Glenn Hauser, Enid OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST) This report dispatched at 1641 UT April 30
